Remote Beyond Compare: Letters of don Diego de Vargas to His Family from New Spain and Mexico, 1675-1706 (Journals of Don Diego De Vargos)
This book, originally published in 1989 and long unavailable, is reissued in conjunction with the completed multi-volume translation of the official correspondence of don Diego De Vargas, late seventeenth-century governor and re-colonizer of New Mexico. These personal letters not only illuminate their author but the history of New Mexico as don Diego experienced it. Like the Journals of don Diego de Vargas, this volume reflects years of document collection, translation, and annotation by the Vargas Project directed by John L. Kessell.

Open Question: Optometrists/Opticians, I need your help/comments please!!?
So today I picked up my new eyeglasses, but it doesn't look or feel right when I wear them (almost makes me dizzy). There seems to be minimal improvements compared to my old eyeglasses (I tried both of them to see letters from far away and both old/new eyeglasses look the same to me). These new eyeglasses I got are from JC Penny Optical, and I got them with the Anti-Reflective Coat and High Index Lens.
Here's my NEW eyeglass prescription (Date: 9/26/08) (Location: Costco Optical)
Right Lens -4.25 -0.50 X 180
Left Lens -4.50 -0.50 X 170
Here's my OLD eyeglass prescription that I just found (Date: 2/23/05) (Location: Local Optometry Clinic) :
Sphere Cylinder Axis
R -3.75 -1.00 10
L -4.00 -1.00 170
So it looks like my Cylinder went from -1.00 to -0.50 for both eyes and the Axis on the right from 10 to 180. Is there something wrong here? I'm not sure how the cylinder number works but it looks like it's getting better? Is that possible? Could that be the reason why my new eyeglasses look funky?
Also, I have contact lens (Acuvue Oasys) for the Coscto prescription R -4.25 and L -4.50 and they look great.

Resolved Question: Switching cats' food: which choice?
I'd like your opinion on whether Solid Gold's Katz-n-Flocken or Felidae's Cat and Kitten Formula is the better choice of dry food for my two cats.
I'm switching them over because my local store discontinued what I was feeding originally. I will do it gradually, I know the deal. :]
I'm leaning more towards the Solid Gold right now, since the first ingredient is a pure protein (lamb) as opposed to the Felidae with chicken meal. Also, it's got a minimum of 34% protein as compared to Felidae's 32%.
If you'd like to through in other suggestions, you're welcome to, but I'd like to also know your take on the Solid Gold vs. Felidae.
Thanks in advance!
Note: Please don't respond with your reasons on why you personally don't like dry food. I feed dry in the morning and wet in the evening.

Open Question: Adventures of Huck Finn ...help?
Defend or refute this statement: Mark Twain's novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn degrades the Negro race.
Base your opinion on the novel/s depiction of Jim compared to Pap, the novel's depiction of the Negro Race in general, the novel's use of local color (social beliefs, superstision, education levels of the time period), and dialects.
I guess its not so much a question. More an explanation? :P I guess it makes sense to me... ??

Plot
Jim Hawkins is a young boy who lives with his parents in,? the Admiral Benbow? on the western coast of England. Captain Billy Bones who was staying at the inn, had a stroke after a man named Black Dog had visited him. Captain Billy Bones died after Pew gives him a paper with a black spot on it. It was the second death he faced; his first was his father a few days ago. He and his mother went to his room, opened his sea chest, and found a logbook, money, and a map. They leave with these contents of the sea chests and hide. After a few minutes Pew and other buccaneers come and search the inn and when there were leaving a few horses trampled Pew which killed him. When Jim and his mother go to the hall, they talk to local physician, Dr. Livesey plus the district squire, Trelawney and they show them the mysterious contents. They recognized as it a map for a huge treasure that the infamous pirate Captain Flint has buried on an island. Trelawney, Dr.Livesey planned an expedition and set sail in a few weeks. When there wert sailing Jim had found out Trelawney had been tricked into hiring Captain Flint?s former mate Long John Silver, and many of Flint's crew. He told. about this and how there were planning it mutiny to Dr. Livesey, Trelawney, and Captain Smollet who seemed to be the only one trustworthy. Captain Smollet thinks of a plan to get them off. He was allowing them leisure time on shore. They go in mini boats which Jim sneaks into, and runs off at the shore. He stopped running when heard Silver speaking. He sees Silver talking to another man who says he refuses to join the mutiny and he witnesses Silver kill him. He runs further and meets Ben Gunn who was marooned on the Island years ago and was once a mate in Flint ?s crew. Smollet and others go a stockade on the island. When they are ashore, Jim returns to the stockade and Silver tries to talk to the captain. The pirates attack the stockade the next day and the captain is wounded.. Jim sneaks off from the stockade afterwards, and looks for the boat that Ben Gunn had mentioned. He finds it and sets sail to the ship he arrived in and cutes the rope. He boards the ship to find that Israel had become drunk and had killed the other watchman.. Israel tries to kill him but Jim kills him. Jim is wounded and returns to the stockade to finds it occupied by Silver and the other pirates. Silver takes Jim in hostage, after a while, Jim realizes that he was having trouble managing the men who accused him of treachery. They are about to depose him when he showed them the treasure map. Silver, Jim and other captains go looking for the treasure. They are shocked and furious to find the treasure cache empty. Some charge at Jim and Silver but gets shot by Dr. Livesey, Trelawney, and Ben Ginn. Later Jim and Silver go to them and find out that Ben Ginn has the treasure. They follow him and find the treasure in a cave .After counting and packing the loot on to the ship, they prepare to set sail. They set sail leaving 3 remaining pirates on the island with supplies and ammunition. Later Silver sneaks off with a portion of the treasure on e night, and was never heard from. They sail back to Bristol and shared the treasure.
Main Character
Jim Hawkins Is the main character of Treasure Island.
Reading Experience
Experienced readers might have enjoyed but first timers may have not enjoyed reading the graphic novel. I did not enjoy reading this graphic novel because of the olden English which is hard to understand. You also have to study the pictures carefully as you read the words. I also have never read a graphic novel, before so it was my first time. I had to read the graphic novel several times before I had understood it. I think this famous story was rewritten in this format because it will encourage teens and the children to read.
Analyzed Frame
There is a variety of different frames which are very effective. The third frame on page forty is the one I have analyzed. I analyzed this frame because this frame shows the Jim Hawkins being dragged by Long John Silver which is a piece of the cover. This frame answers some of my questions that had sparked in my head before I started to read this graphic novel. Long John Silver was dragging Jim Hawkins, a hostage while on a quest for the treasure. Jim compares himself to a dancing bear in this frame. The emotions that are being portrayed in this frame are anger, and cruelty. I know cruelty and anger are expressed in this frame because of Long John Silver, and the other pirates face expressions that are drawn a bit scrunched up. The way Jim is walking portrays to me that Jim is withering in this frame. It is effective because of its great details in the drawings. This frame could be improved by making Jim drawing more bent and his face should be a bit more detailed with expression.
Themes
There are many themes in the graphic novel Treasure

The similarities and differences between them, really. Anything that was different or the same. Political ideas, government, social behavior, economy, trade, almost anything! Not environment, but maybe local animals and native things.

Open Question: How can I make my mom believe me when I'm telling the truth?
I've never given my mom reason not to believe me and I'm sorry if I don't seem humble, but the truth is, compared to other kids in my town (if you knew where I lived you'd be surprised I'm so good) I'm a very, very good kid. My girl friends I hang out with are pretty much the same as me, but the boys not so much. They're nice, but they do their fair share of troublesome things. The thing is I think my mom has a very hard time believing me when it comes to certain things and it gets me very sad to know that no matter what she won't believe me.
Just recently on New Years I went over to a boy friends and my mom said I would have to come home if his parents weren't home. We were staying in a separare part of the house than his parents, so I got there and asked my friends if they were home and for some reason they said yes, so I chose to believe them and this is what I told my mom. After midnight his parents came into the room in their coats and I figured they walked through the outside to see us. That night I went to my girl friends house and slept over there.
So today my mom tells me that she heard my guy friends parents were at a local restaurant during that night and that she found that the boys were drinking. I don't know what to say, but the truth, so I tell her my friends told me they were there and I wasn't drinking and didn't know about anyone else was drinking and if you don't believe me, then I don't know what to tell you. She didn't say anything else, but now won't talk to me and when I say something to her she is very snippy.
Since then I talked to a girl friend and she said the boys drank after we left and she doesn't know why they told us their parents weren't home. I assure you I did nothing wrong at the party and I don't know how to make my mom believe me because I only told her the truth. I just think she's completely over protective of me.
What do you think and how can I make her believe me?
I'm 16. My dad was in on the conversation and although he's less protective of my mom I finds he agrees with her, so she doesn't get mad at him. I'm REALLY not lying.
