The Book of Pooh - Stories From the Heart
The Book of Pooh - Stories From the Heart While Disney didn't invent Winnie the Pooh, nor first animate him, it certainly has Americanized the British bear into a cartoon character hardly resembling A.A. Milne's original 1924 creation. Although Disney's four Storybook Classics titles (from 1966) were somewhat faithful to Milne's concept, subsequent titles (especially in the Playtime and Learning series) descended into second-rate TV fare. All this to say that Disney has redeemed itself with The Book of Pooh, a fresh batch of Pooh stories evoking a nostalgic nod to the original. The Disney Channel's full-length film Stories from the Heart is a puppet rendition of Pooh, set in a sparkling world of computer animation (not unlike Bear in the Big Blue House, which shares the same executive producer and director, Mitchell Kriegman). The puppets (by Shadow Projects) may take some getting used to by viewers accustomed to animated cartoons, yet they'll appreciate the characters' lifelike personalities. The 77-minute program is a collection of six tales focusing on Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and the gang (though Kanga and Roo are noticeably absent). Mark Zaslove deserves writing kudos for subtle humor (reminiscent of Milne) and storytelling restraint uncharacteristic of Disney. Highlights include "Eeyore's Tailiversary," in which Eeyore receives a surprise party to celebrate the day he and his tail became attached, and "Tigger's Replacement," which chronicles Tigger's attempts to teach Piglet how to be a Tigger. (Lessons in bouncing and Tiggerisms are part of his Rigorous Tiggerous Training Program.) Many of the puppets' voices are familiar, such as Jim Cummings (The Tigger Movie) as Pooh and Tigger. Six musical numbers round out this welcome entry in Disney's Winnie the Pooh collection. --Lynn Gibson

Open Question: oddyseus Book 11 help by Robert fitzgerald?
In the Land of the Dead, Odysseus seeks to learn his destiny. The source of his information is Teiresias, the famous blind prophet from the city of Thebes. The prophet?s lack of external sight suggests the presence of true insight. Circe has told Odysseus exactly what rites he must perform to bring Teiresias up from the dead. Odysseus continues telling his story to Alcinous?s court. ?Then I addressed the blurred and breathless dead, 585 vowing to slaughter my best heifer for them before she calved, at home in Ithaca, and burn the choice bits on the altar fire; as for Teiresias, I swore to sacrifice a black lamb, handsomest of all our flock. 590 Thus to assuage the nations of the dead I pledged these rites, then slashed the lamb and ewe, letting their black blood stream into the well pit. Now the souls gathered, stirring out of Erebus, brides and young men, and men grown old in pain, 595 and tender girls whose hearts were new to grief; many were there, too, torn by brazen lanceheads, battle-slain, bearing still their bloody gear. From every side they came and sought the pit with rustling cries; and I grew sick with fear. 600 But presently I gave command to my officers to flay° those sheep the bronze cut down, and make burnt offerings of flesh to the gods below? to sovereign Death, to pale Persephone.° Meanwhile I crouched with my drawn sword to keep 605 the surging phantoms from the bloody pit till I should know the presence of Teiresias?. Soon from the dark that prince of Thebes came forward bearing a golden staff; and he addressed me: ?Son of Laertes and the gods of old, 610 Odysseus, master of landways and seaways, why leave the blazing sun, O man of woe, to see the cold dead and the joyless region? Stand clear, put up your sword; let me but taste of blood, I shall speak true.? 615 At this I stepped aside, and in the scabbard let my long sword ring home to the pommel silver, as he bent down to the somber blood. Then spoke the prince of those with gift of speech: ?Great captain, a fair wind and the honey lights of home 620 are all you seek. But anguish lies ahead; the god who thunders on the land prepares it, not to be shaken from your track, implacable,° in rancor for the son whose eye you blinded. One narrow strait may take you through his blows: 625 denial of yourself, restraint of shipmates. When you make landfall on Thrinakia first and quit the violet sea, dark on the land you?ll find the grazing herds of Helios by whom all things are seen, all speech is known. 630 Avoid those kine,° hold fast to your intent, and hard seafaring brings you all to Ithaca. But if you raid the beeves,° I see destruction for ship and crew. Though you survive alone, bereft of all companions, lost for years, 635 under strange sail shall you come home, to find your own house filled with trouble: insolent men eating your livestock as they court your lady. Aye, you shall make those men atone in blood! But after you have dealt out death?in open 640 combat or by stealth?to all the suitors, go overland on foot, and take an oar, until one day you come where men have lived with meat unsalted, never known the sea, nor seen seagoing ships, with crimson bows 645 and oars that fledge light hulls for dipping flight. The spot will soon be plain to you, and I can tell you how: some passerby will say, ?What winnowing fan° is that upon your shoulder?? Halt, and implant your smooth oar in the turf 650 and make fair sacrifice to Lord Poseidon: a ram, a bull, a great buck boar; turn back, and carry out pure hecatombs° at home to all wide heaven?s lords, the undying gods, to each in order. Then a seaborne death 655 soft as this hand of mist will come upon you when you are wearied out with rich old age, your countryfolk in blessed peace around you. And all this shall be just as I foretell.??? I need to know how i can summarize that in one paragraphs because i dont even get what is going on in this if you can help that would be Great (more...)

Open Question: Writing a fantasy novel...any readers?
i have writing about 2 chapters. this one is the second chapter. i know its kinda long but if u like it tell me what u think and if you want to see the 1st chapter then just say so and i'll put it up or just email me =] He sat there staring at the ground, thinking to himself, why! Why couldn?t he have done something? As he was thinking, he thought of how he would never see his mother or father again? He was alone is this world now, and what were those things chasing after him? He kept staring at the ground but then noticed something strange? there were tracks pressed into the dirt of an animal, an animal he had never seen before. Surely these could not be of a human or dwarf, but he just couldn?t figure it out. To Alakai it looked like a dog or wolf of some kind but not the kind he had ever heard of, to his own knowledge, wolves don?t walk on two feet. This was strange to him, it seemed adventurous to follow but dangerous at the same time seeing as he had no idea what was in store for him if he found the beast, ultimately he knew he should not follow the tracks but he just could not help himself, he had always been a risk taker. As Alakai followed the mysterious beast?s tracks for a few hours he came to a burnt out campfire. ?Could this be possible?? He asked himself aloud. This was the third strange thing that had happened already today, first his parents dying and those men following him, second finding mysterious animal tracks of a dog or wolf type animal walking on what seemed to be two feet and third, while following the tracks he stumbles upon a camp fire where the tracks had suddenly stopped then started on the other side. Now Alakai knew something had to be up, he knew dogs don?t walk on two feet and was almost defiantly sure they couldn?t build campfires. Suddenly the tress on his left rustled! And he heard the dry leaves that lay beneath and around him crunch, could this be those black hooded men that were following him before? What did they want? Alakai stood there and waited in extreme silence and inpatient ness, his heart pounding so hard it seemed it might burst from his chest any moment. ?Show yourself!? he screamed, ?Show your faces you cowards!?. At the exact moment of his thought, a giant gray beast flew out from behind a tree and landed directly on Alakai?s shoulders, the weight making him buckle under the pressure and collapse to the ground. ?Get off me! I?ll kill you I swear!? ?Calm yourself child, you have nothing to fear here? Said the mysterious beast in a soft spoken slow voice. The beast got up and Alakai felt the pressure release off him, he sat up and stared at where the beast was standing to realize a giant smokey gray wolf standing before him. He thought this beast must have been nearly 7 or 8 feet tall, carrying a long knight type sword attached to a silver crested belt. Alakai could hardly believe what he saw but he had no choice not to, everything that had happened to him in the last few hours was unusual. ?I am Faran, king of the Greybacks and leader of the Narzak? He said in his slow voice as he bowed to Alakai. A few moments later a second wolf stepped out from behind the brush. ?And this is Rangore, my second in command?. He too bowed in respect for Alakai. ?What??....What are Greybacks?? Said Alakai, ?And why are you walking on two feet??. ?Greybacks are and ancient race, a clan of wolves taught in the knowledge of the elves thousands of years ago? Said Faran as he gestured to himself and his other. ?We are on a task of great importance to find a young man who is in grave danger, Perhaps you may know of him? His name is Alakai?. Alakai just stood there in shock of what he had just heard. Why were these beasts looking for him and why was he in danger?. None of this made any sense to Alakai. He paused wondering whether to tell them that the boy they were looking for was him or not for fear of his life. ? I am not the boy?.but I do know him! He lives on the nearest farm from here about 2 hours away in that direction? Said Alakai, pointing towards where his cottage used to be. He was afraid the wolf people had mind reading abilities or something because they seemed not to believe him for a second. It was either that or his terrible lying skills. ?Thank you young child? Faran said, bowing once more as he acknowledged Alakai. ?We are I your debt?. The wolf said no more than that and quickly turned and took sprint in the direction Alakai had pointed, Rangore following. It may have been Alakai?s own imagination but the wolves seemed to run with incredible speed and agility beyond anything he had seen. well what do u think? (more...)

Resolved Question: Win a "best answer" for your biblical literacy?
Be first to answer five questions: 1. Jesus wasn't the only one betrayed by a Judas. What Old Testament character was also betrayed by a man named Judas...for a payment in silver, none the less? (Hint: Judas is spelled slightly differently in Hebrew). 2. What woman was accused of being drunk while praying to God "in her heart"? 3. Finish this verse: Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like _ ______ ______. (NIV) 4. To whom did Jesus say, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand." 5. Finish this verse: ...not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through _____ __ ______. LOL if this was my homework, I would just answer the question, eh mate? They are actually not too hard. (more...)

Open Question: I just want to share this with everyone....it makes sense.?
My mom sent this to me and i would love you to read it.... I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderfull life, my loving family for less grey hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie,or for not making my bed,or for buying that silly cement gecko that i did'nt need, but looks so avant grade on my patio. I am entitled to a treat,to be messy,to be extravagant.I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon, before before they understood the great freedom that comes with ageing.Whose business is it if i choose to read or play on the computer until 4am and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60's and 70's and if i,at the same time wish to weep over a loved one..i will. I will walk on the beach in a swim suit that is stretched overa bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if i choose to,despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They too, will get old.I know i am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotton. And i eventually remember the important things. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one,or when a child suffers,or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what gives us strenth, understanding, and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning grey, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver. As you get older, its easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong. So,to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person that i have become. I am not going to live forever but while i am still here,i will not waste time lamenting what could have been,or worrying about what will be.And i shall eat desert every single day(if i feel like it) May you always have a rainbow of smiles on your face and in your heart forever. hope you all enjoyed reading this and i hope it makes you feel so lucky to be alive and loved by family and friends as i did. its certainaly worth bearing in mind, dont you think.Happy 2009 to you all. i lost a very close cousin of mine over christmas, just 48 years old and so this has made me realise even more how lucky i am and indeed all of us who have had the privilage of getting older even if we all moan about! i am 50 by the way. Resolved Question: Quoted Tattoo.. need opinions and tips?
Hey, So I'm planning on getting a tattoo that says "Everything Happens For A Reason" But I'm not sure where the best place would be, or how to make it look. I was thinking maybe in either purple, or black, and get it highlighted with silver perhaps.. and get a heart, or some other sort of deco in white ink. I was thinking maybe on my hip, or just on the pantline. I'm not totally sure. But I'd really like opinions, and I would love to know what you would do with this. I don't want it to be really big! Tips, Opinions, etc. Thank you! :) I'm a tattoo virgin by the way. :) (more...)
