HISTORY OF THE PANORAMIC MAP
A popular cartographic form used to depict U.S. and Canadian cities and towns during the late 19th and early 20th centuries was the panoramic map. Also known as town views, panoramic maps are not generally drawn to scale. They show street patterns, buildings, and major landscape features in perspective. Preparation of panoramic maps involved a vast amount of painstakingly detailed labor. For each project a frame was developed, showing in perspective the pattern of streets. The artist then walked the streets, sketching buildings, trees, and other features to present a complete landscape as seen from an elevation of 2,000-3,000 feet. These data were then entered on the frame in his workroom. The most successful print publisher in the nineteenth century was Currier and lves. Best remembered for their views of daily life in Victorian America, they also prepared birds-eye views of New York City, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and Washington. Famous panoramic artists included Albert Ruger, Thaddeus Fowler, and the brothers, O.H and H.H Bailey. Surviving panoramic maps are very popular today and command premium prices from map and print dealers. Panoramic maps give a pictorial record of Anglo-Americas cities during the post-Civil War period and for many localities, provide the sole nineteenth-century perspective of the community. The Uintah Railway

The Uintah Railway was a 75 mile railroad that operated from 1904 to 1939. It ran in northwestern Colorado from Mack, Colorado to Watson, Utah. Featuring the original film footage of the new 3 foot narrow gauge articulated locomotives in 1926 on the 7.5% grades of Baxter Pass. Our video combines the historic motion picture film from the Lucian Sprague family and the Colorado Railroad Museum archives with vintage photographs from the collections of several avid Uintah Railway enthusiasts. Modelers, historians, and photographers will all want to add this video of one of Colorado's most unique narrow gauge railroads to their collections.

Resolved Question: lOOKING FOR OTHER ARTIST FRIENDLY, HISTORIC SMALL TOWNS TO RELOCATE...?
My girlfriend and I currently live in Manitou Springs, CO which is a beautifull and unique mountain town. The problem is all of the negitive growth and wealth that brought the generic condos and is destroying the integrity of the city. Anyone know of other historic artist friendly towns that seem to be less vulnarable to this type of change? We've been looking around colorado as well as Eureka Springs, AR and Port Townsend, WA although we do not plan on moving to th West Coast. Any Ideas would be helpfull.

Resolved Question: Winnipeg vs Wexford vs Fort Collins?
I'm currently living in Manitoba, but in the near future i have some chances (1 in a million, but still) to get some opportunity to move either Colorado (Fort Collins) or Wexford County, Ireland. Which is the best place of all 3? I'm european, i like historic towns (Ireland then it's the best for it) but also nature (probably the best of 3 is still in Manitoba) and open, warm, fun people (which are hard to find in Manitoba), and crowded streets. I also love ocean and mountains.

Resolved Question: Would anyone be interested in investing in a historic property?
Last year I purchased a historic property here in south eastern Colorado which inludes 3 homes on almost 2 acres. Due to a tenant trashing one of the homes, and the subsequent $4000.00 I had to put out to repair it, I now have the bank starting foreclosure proceedings. The repairs wiped out all my savings, and I would be very interested in any potential solutions that would allow me to keep my property. Any ideas?

Resolved Question: Your thoughts on the Denver Post?
There are a lot of mixed feelings about this article from the Denver Post. What are your thoughts?
Denver Post:
This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of Colorado after todays snowstorm. (31 Dec 2006)
WEATHER BULLETIN
Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.
FYI: (For Your Info)
George Bush did not come.
FEMA did nothing.
No one howled for the government.
No one blamed the government.
No one even uttered an expletive on TV
Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.
Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.
Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.
CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this
category 5 snowstorm.
Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.
No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.
No one looted.
Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.
Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.
No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.
No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.
Nope, we just melted the snow for water.
Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.
The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.
Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.
Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.
We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.
We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die"
We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.
Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it
ourselves.
"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."
It does seem that way, at least to me.
I hope this gets passed on.
Maybe SOME people will get the message.
The world does not owe you a living.
