Open Question: parents peace corps-Swaziland 1970s-information? help?!!?
Hey, My parents served the peace corps in the 1970s in Swaziland My godfather was a student of there's who is now in the US with a family and is a Very successful doctor my parents spent two years there teaching school, my father did metal working/woodworking my mom did reading and other things, my godfather is pure African, My parents have always told me from when I was little about Africa. I'm working on a school report about it now and this report alone is half of my grade, I'm trying to track down photos and information about them and what it was like when they were there. I'm not sure if I'm spelling this right but my godfathers name is Begamoosa as in beg-a-mouse-a they've always talked about seeing fighter jets flying over with neutron-bombs on them and coming back later with out any bombs. I've seen slide shows of them in African attire spears beads, what you would see the African hunters wearing in ghosts of the darkness type dress standing with a Family. also the game park having a sing with the number of people killed by snakes(only white people were on the sign) as the school master told them they didn't count their own on the sign because there would be just to many. I would really like to find some photos of them or the school they worked at any information would be great, also I'm not sure the EXACT year they were there, but the king after they left stepped down and let his son into power, also his son (the king) was a student of theirs. this almost history is one thing that I would like to record write down learn as much as possible about it and let others know about it. My parents went into the peace corps in boulder colorado I believe. few of the others that went with them got sent home for AIDS/home sicknes and other things. my parents last name is Gossett. also part Cherokee one of the more disliked family's of the Cherokee as I have heard. thank you for reading if you can give me any information or tips anything at all would be great! -Matt correction on my godfathers name bega moosa as in beg-a-moose-a (more...)

Open Question: How does my essay sound to you?
okay i wrote this essay about smoke-free laws...this is for an AP English course....how does it sound? Any educated citizen can agree that smoking only leads to consequences, and has absolutely no benefits toward the human anatomy; the issue was emphasized by an article written by Mike Stobbe on December 31, 2008. The research condemned in a Colorado city showed that the ban of smoking in a workplace led to a drop in the percent of heart attacks. The research took three years, but proved to work. Not only did the banning cut smoking rates but reduced damages on other people caused by second-hand smoking. However, some observers mention there is no actual proof that the ban of smoking caused the drop. One thing was for sure whatever it was showed improvement for the citizens of the city. The ban of smoking in public areas in Pueblo, Colorado might just influence other cities to do the same. Obviously, this change improved health not just for the smokers but for the innocent victims and their children surrounded by those smokers. The restriction of smoking in public areas for three years shows the commitment and the serious attitude toward tobacco. It is to be the longest study ever done on smoking. The images of what tobacco does to humans are instantly pictured in the mind; society has seen images of post-smoking situations and the consequences thrust upon those who smoke. Action speaks louder than words; taking this type of drastic action proved to help society. This is the ninth study done and it is proven that smoke-free laws help reduce heart attacks at no cost. Even with the doubtful observers, the facts are clear; the prevention of smoke will provide a healthy environment whether it reduces chances of heart attacks or not. If serious issues like smoke-free laws cure one of America?s biggest problems-heart attacks-then why only take action in Pueblo, Colorado? America?s health problem is soaring high with obesity, heart-attacks, and other diseases. Reducing one of those issues in a community helps doctors or anybody else medically qualified to focus on solving other concerns in the hospital or scientific laboratory. For example, the heart attack rates in Pueblo dropped from 257 per 100,000 people to 152 per 100,000, and that?s just for the three years. Imagine the progress America will make when a greater commitment is made toward providing smoke-free zones for the public. To reach distant places it has to take the first step. The affects of second hand smoke affects everyone surrounded in that atmosphere, especially the children. Cigarettes are known for causing cancer and contain more than 50 chemicals. Most of these children have no other choice then to breathe that air; because that?s the atmosphere they are surrounded with. Many of these children live in households with parents that smoke, and are not educated with the dangers of tobacco. The benefit of the smoke-free law guarantees children a safe atmosphere outside their home, where it?s possible to breathe fresh, non-toxic air. Many children receive respiratory tract infections resulting in 7,500 to 15,000 hospitalizations each year. Unlike America, many countries do not warn parents about the dangers of smoking. Like it or not, children grow up to have respiratory complications, like asthma. If smoke-free laws can spread through communities, it can very well spread through countries, therefore improving the universal health system. The message was loud, clear, and simple in the article. Although it?s not proven that all heart attacks are the result of tobacco, but smoke-free laws definitely reduced the numbers and gives families hope of a healthier air climate. Readers of the article can get motivated to produce similar laws in their communities. The message showed to be efficient and a sign of progress and a promising future. thanks so much!!! aand sryy its long lol (more...)

Open Question: Is it bad to transfer?
I am a freshman at UCSB, and I was the only one of my friends to leave Colorado for college. I am now finding that I am not enjoying my time here. I dont mesh well with the kids, the school doesnt have a journalism program, and the thing I look most forward to is going home for breaks. Is it bad for me to transfer home? The only thing that worries me is that the school isn't ranked as high as UCSB. Will that hinder my future? The school I am currently at doesn't have my major. The one I want to transfer to does. Open Question: What should I do if my girlfriend of 3 years all of a sudden doesn't know if she wants to be with me or not? ?
She said it isn't that she doesn't want to be with me, but just that she doesn't know what she wants. I am 29 and she is 25. We just moved back home and we have to live apart(eachothers parents) for financial reasons. We had lived in Colorado for a little over 2 years and everything was great until we got back to our home town. I don't know what to really say or do because I don't want to push her away. (more...)

Resolved Question: Dog training, please help!?
I am at my wit's end with my dog. He's 6 years old, and has been generally well-behaved all his life. We recently moved, and since we've been in this house, he's been getting up on tables. Coffee tables, end tables, even this pub table that sits about 4 feet off the ground. (He can jump very high). He only does it when no one is home, so I have no idea what to do to train him to not do it. When the weather is nice, I can put him in the yard, but during winter in Colorado, it's too cold most of the time to leave him outside. What can I do, aside from putting him in a crate? I just can't do that to him! Please help me, I am so stressed and have no idea what to do!! I think he's getting on the tables so he can try to look out the window. Does anyone know any training methods that would teach him getting up there is bad? I supposed I'll have to crate him. I just feel terrible. He hasn't been crated since he was a puppy, I'm worried it might stress him out. We do keep the blinds closed, but he paws at them anyway. And a pen wouldn't be an option, cause he can jump over 4 feet. (more...)

Open Question: How a PC card actually works....?
I might be getting a pc card from Verizon. I want to use it for my laptop. We are taking a family vacation to Colorado to go skiing and where we will be staying said we would have service. But we have wifi at our house so I wouldn't really need it at home. But I heard I could use the card for our xbox (wifi doesn't reach). Is that true? Just need info on PC card. (more...)

Open Question: What can I do about items being stored in my home that are moldy? ?
I have an entire basement full of items belonging to a family member who refuses to remove them. A year ago, there was a flood in my basement and a subsequent mold problem developed. There was no cleanup because the basement is literally stuffed full of this family members junk. The family member refuses to remove any of their belongings, and I am now becoming ill as a result of the mold. It's my house, ownership changed during this time, and the family member does not have my permission to store anything in my home, plus, the mold is causing an immediate health hazard! What are my options? I live in Colorado. Thank you! I should mention that the family member in question only has a P.O. Box and I can't have anything physically delivered to him. (more...)

Resolved Question: Does anyone see the difference between Israel and hamas?
Gaza War Diary III: If Mexico shelled Texas, like Hamas shells Israel By Bradley Burston Analogy One: A fanatical religious party wins a string of elections in Mexico's northern states, then stages a civil war to drive out the federal government and take full control. The party's charter demands the return to Mexico of the occupied territories of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas. Firing homemade rockets and more advanced projectiles smuggled in from Iran and China, the party's gunners can hit a total of one of every seven Americans, or 43,598,000 people, in a broad swath which includes Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Austin, San Antonio and Houston, and Las Vegas. In all of these areas, pre-schools, grade schools, and universities are all forced to shut down. Families sleep in bomb shelters, and return to them several times a day during air raids. Businesses are shuttered, and the economy shuts down. ______________________ Analogy Two: A man comes into your home. He has a gun he made himself. He points it at your family. He fires, but misses. The gun has little accuracy. He fires repeatedly, missing again and again. You have a much better gun, made in a real factory. It is in the drawer in the bedroom. Demonstrators in London and San Francisco - who are distant relatives of the gunman - stage a protest, calling you a murderer and demanding that you keep the well-made gun in the drawer because it would be a disproportionate response. The man with the homemade gun, it turns out, is a religious fanatic who lives across the street. You were once his landlord. There is much bad blood between you. He races back across the street. He has a larger weapon that he smuggled in through his basement. He shoots from behind his younger son. He wounds your daughter. You take out a rifle. You aim for him and hit the son, killing the boy. The demonstrators are now calling you a Nazi and chant "Slaughter the Landlord!" [In his defense, the neighbor explains that you have kept him and his family locked in the house, and have at times, failed to pay his water, gas and electric bills, causing them to be sporadically turned off. This is some years after the neighbor send out his older son, nicely dressed, to knock on your door. Your older daughter opens the door. He greet her politely, and presses the detonator on a homemade bomb.] ______________________ And finally a word about... Analogy Three: Gaza as the Warsaw Ghetto Jew-haters the world over adore this one. It solves a number of problems at once: It denies and diminishes and exploits the Holocaust, does disrespect to Holocaust victims and survivors alike, alleviates European guilt over complicity with the Nazis, alleviates American guilt over inaction in the face of the annihilation machine, misrepresents both the cruel reality of the Gaza Strip and the cruel reality of the ghetto, dismisses the humanity and the vulnerability of the million Israeli Jews and Arabs within rocket range, and ignores completely the role of Hamas, the Islamic Jihad, the Popular Resistance Committees, and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, in having sent thousands and thousands and thousands of rockets and mortars into Israel. As a bonus, pro-Palestinian demonstrators in San Francisco [where else?], referencing the the Warsaw Ghetto analogy, recently beat up a small number of pro-Israel demonstrators, reportedly shouting "Slaughter the Jew" at them in Arabic. Resolved Question: Please help me, I'm so very depressed....?
I have been extremely stressed out lately. I'm currently attend a community college, because its all my grandmother can afford to send me. I live at home with my parents, but they refuse to help my grand mother allow me to get a college education. I know I should feel lucky even being at a college in the first place, , because some of my friends are not going at all. I have a very sweet loving boyfriend, that I've been with for 2 years, March will make it 3. all throughout high school, me and him were inseparable. But now he's going to a college he loves going to, while I'm stuck in a community college hating life. I recently got accepted into a college in Colorado, and after everyone, including my parents got my hopes up, everyone told me I was not able to go, because my grandmother could not pay that much for it, and like I said my parents refuse to help me and her. I'm at the point in my life where I feel like I'm supposed to be having fun at college, and meeting fun new people, and enjoying life, but I have never been so depressed in my life. I'm even starting to feel like leaving my boyfriend, so he wont have to deal with me and my sadness anymore. I dint want to be the one to constantly ruin his day with my problems. Some times I feel like just getting away from all of this, and sometimes I feel like I dont wanna live anymore. My family that I live with also acts like they dont want me around. which is why I planned to go to Colorado in the first place. They do everything without me. everything from simply visiting a relative, to going out to eat or to the movies. They would wait till I have to go to work all day, to go out and have some fun with out me. for once I would just like to go to school with a smile on my face. Is there any advise you can give me so I wont feel so bad? Is there anything I can do to make my life a little better? I'm so tired of crying.... And please no rude comments I'm in a very emotional state right now.....thank you =[ I also didn't have that good of a christmas, because in christmas day, my dad got drunk and yelled at me and my mom. I've been loosing sleep, and have not been eating regularly because of all of this. I really need some help..... =[ (more...)
