Rize
Rize The riveting documentary Rize explores the physically astounding Los Angeles worlds of clowning and krumping--both heightened and spectacular styles of hip-hop dance. With roots in breakdancing and the furious response to the Rodney King beating, clowning was launched by Tommy the Clown, a former drug runner turned children's-party-clown, with brightly colored jumpsuits and a psychedelic afro wig. To gather attention, Tommy began to gyrate and writhe in the street; before long, he was not only getting gigs, he'd inspired dozens of other clown groups, all with their own spin on face make-up and Tommy's dance moves. With a little cross-pollination from stripper dance moves and a good dose of aggression, clowning begat krumping, which resembles a cross between an epileptic seizure and ecstatic possession--what one practitioner calls "ghetto ballet." In addition to dancing that will make your eyes pop, Rize interviews dancers like Tight Eyez, La Nina, Lil C, and Miss Prissy, building a portrait of a subculture, culminating in a dance battle between clowns and krumps called BattleZone V. Directed by photographer and music video director David LaChappelle, Rize persuasively portrays these twin dance movements as not only a personal exorcism, but as the effort of a community to escape the corrosive forces of gangs and drugs. --Bret Fetzer

The Vagina Monologues
The Vagina Monologues Anyone who has only seen celebrities perform Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues--or, for that matter, anyone who hasn't seen them at all--should give themselves the present of this HBO special, which captures Ensler's own performance. Some of the monologues--on topics ranging from the word itself (and other words), hair, orgasms, and more--are cute, some are shocking, but all are grounded in Ensler's clear intelligence, sardonic wit, and her crisp and supple voice. The simplicity of the performance is augmented with interviews with other women talking about their vaginas and interviews with Ensler herself. It's amazing that even in the 21st century many women are still uncomfortable with their sex organs; this bracing, wonderful, and deeply funny performance may open things up. --Bret Fetzer

Tarnation
Tarnation A dark and troubling dream that David Lynch must envy, made all the more unsettling because it's true, Tarnation can only be called at auto-documentary. It's a self-portrait of the family life of Jonathan Caouette, whose mother Renee (a former child model) was forced to undergo electric shock treatment repeatedly in her youth, leading to erratic behavior throughout her life. But though the events of Caouette's life are sad, horrific, or a testament to human resilience, what makes the movie striking is how it was made: Caouette cobbled the movie together from photographs, tape recordings, and home movies that he's shot throughout his life, ranging from footage of himself at 11 years old imitating a battered wife to trashy horror movies he made as an adolescent to the first time he met his father. The unique and fluid result is mesmerizing and eerily intimate, like stepping into someone else's stream of consciousness--though few of our dreams have such a killer indie rock soundtrack. --Bret Fetzer

A Brief History of Time
A Brief History of Time Stephen Hawking, one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists in history, wrote the modern classic A Brief History of Time to help nonscientists understand the questions being asked by scientists today: Where did the universe come from? How and why did it begin? Will it come to an end, and if so, how? Hawking attempts to reveal these questions (and where we're looking for answers) using a minimum of technical jargon. Among the topics gracefully covered are gravity, black holes, the Big Bang, the nature of time, and physicists' search for a grand unifying theory. This is deep science; these concepts are so vast (or so tiny) as to cause vertigo while reading, and one can't help but marvel at Hawking's ability to synthesize this difficult subject for people not used to thinking about things like alternate dimensions. The journey is certainly worth taking, for, as Hawking says, the reward of understanding the universe may be a glimpse of "the mind of God." --Therese Littleton

Open Question: Feelings for the 'other guy'?
Had a 2 year friendship with a guy whom I was attracted to, and eventually we had a brief period of intimacy. But the timing was not right for him, he could not commit to anything as he had some unresolved issues with his ex. So I continued to date other people. Shortly after I met this fantastic man and have been seeing him now for 12 months. But I still think about this other man, every day. We don't see each other, but occasionally we email or chat on the phone. My head tells me not to be silly as I have everything I could possibly want in my current relationship, but I just can't stop thinking about this other guy. Any suggestions on what I should do? Open Question: Ex has recently sent provocative msg. What is best way to respond?
Last week my bf of 3 months sent me a text msg that he was having doubts about us. He felt obligations but no pressure from me. Personally I never said anything about commitment to him so it seems he has issues. I didn't see it coming and he had been treating me so well with no signs. I said I might not talk to him again and he said he didn't want that. We had a brief exchange which he started on Sat. Last night he sent me a msg "hmmm" and I wrote back "lead us not into temptation". He had given me thigh highs and now wrote back "sounds to me like someone i know might enjoy being admired in her new hosiery. .". What is up? How should I respond? (more...)

Open Question: Can someone summarize the article below for me..First person to summarize it get best answer?
Manhattan prosecutors are expected to announce manslaughter charges on Monday against the rigger who was overseeing the raising of a tower crane on the East Side last year when it collapsed, killing seven, according to people briefed on the case. The rigger, William Rapetti, has also been charged with criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and second-degree assault in the spectacular disaster, in which the 22-story crane plunged across East 51st Street, piercing one building and tearing terraces off another, the people said. The accident, on March 15, played out across a two-block swath of the Turtle Bay neighborhood, leaving two dozen people injured and the streets strewn with rubble. The charges ? including seven counts each of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide ? are contained in an indictment that is expected to be unsealed on Monday, the people said. Mr. Rapetti?s company, Rapetti Rigging Services, will also be charged, the people said. All spoke on the condition of anonymity because the charges remained sealed. Mr. Rapetti, 48, of Massapequa Park, N.Y., was set to surrender on Monday morning, said his lawyer, Arthur L. Aidala, who noted that five of the seven people who died were friends of his client?s, men working with him on the crane that day. Mr. Aidala said he was confident that Mr. Rapetti, an expert in the operation and rigging of tower cranes, would be cleared. ?He did nothing wrong, and operated at that site in a way that is beyond reproach,? Mr. Aidala said. The indictment, the result of an investigation by the office of the Manhattan district attorney, Robert M. Morgenthau, represents the first criminal charges stemming directly from a spate of fatal accidents involving tower cranes last year. Alicia Maxey Greene, a spokeswoman for Mr. Morgenthau?s office, declined to comment on the case. The March 15 collapse, and a second fatal collapse two months later, led to the resignation of the city?s building commissioner and the arrests of its chief crane inspector, one of his subordinates and a crane company owner on corruption charges unrelated to the collapses ? cases that resulted from the scrutiny following the accident. The second collapse, on East 91st Street on May 31, remains under investigation by the Rackets Bureau in Mr. Morgenthau?s office, the same group of prosecutors that is handling the case against Mr. Rapetti and that brought the corruption cases, one law enforcement official has said. The two accidents, coupled with a series of disclosures about missteps by city agencies and others in the fatal fire at the former Deutsche Bank building in 2007, exposed the deeply flawed operations of the Buildings Department. In particular, the crane collapses focused attention on the department?s troubled Cranes and Derricks Division, where a handful of inspectors, some lacking in experience, were overwhelmed by the workload brought on by the city?s building boom. The charges against Mr. Rapetti stem from what one person briefed on the case said were ?reckless and negligent rigging practices,? which caused the failure of four nylon slings that were being used to hoist a huge square steel crane component to the top of the crane. The component, called a collar, was being moved to raise the crane higher to continue construction, a process known as jumping the crane. Mr. Rapetti also failed to follow the crane manufacturer?s specification that the collar be supported by eight slings, the person briefed on the case said. One sling had ?substantial pre-existing damage, including cuts and severe dislocation? that would have been readily apparent to Mr. Rapetti had he inspected it before use, as the building code and federal regulations require, the person said. When the slings ripped and the collar broke free at the 18th floor, it plunged down the side of the crane, smashing into a second collar and shearing it from the building before landing on top of a third collar near the crane?s base, destabilizing the tower. The weight of the crane?s cab then pulled the tower down. In September, federal regulators accused Rapetti Rigging Services of failing to inspect the slings, remove a defective sling from service, protect the slings and comply with the crane manufacturer?s specifications when raising or lowering the crane. Those citations, by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, carried penalties totaling $220,000 and included three willful violations, the most severe issued by the agency. Mr. Rapetti had been cooperating with OSHA?s investigation, said his lawyer, Mr. Aidala, who added that Mr. Rapetti came from a family of crane operators and had worked on the machines since he was a youth. He noted that Mr. Rapetti worked at ground zero operating a giant crane from the day after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack until late that year, a job he won because of his skill and experience. Resolved Question: im trying to get M1 (a merit) on my health and social assignment cold someone help me?
My feedback on my assignment brief was that on the m1 activity I had done good work but i needed a little more to achieve the m1. On the brief it said I had half of the m1 but needed more info basically we had to write down a conversation we had with members of the family at home and put how these skills could have been improved. I wrote that i had a discussion at dinner with my mother and brother about the credit crunch and how much food prices had gone up the m1 question was '' how could the communication skills in the discussion be improved ''. This is what i wrote Although positive communication skills were being used some parts of the discussion could have been improved as during some parts when more than one person wanted to get their view across at the same time there was a little lack in listening skills and interest was being lost in what another person was saying because of the eager to get their own point across. This did break the cycle a little if the person had waited then their point would have been clearly listened to when it came around to them. The discussion would also have been more successful if when for example my mother left the table the discussion was put on hold till she returned ensuring that she would be able to still contribute her views and prevent her getting lost on what was being said. The repeating of words was an issue which kept arising in the discussion as my brother was texting a friend on his mobile phone which resulted in his attention being diverted when speaking to him he would often reply with a ''what'' or a '' hold on a second say that again'' this could have been improved if he had waited till the discussion was over to use his mobile phone. How could i improve this for my M1 my comments on the brief said i needed to explain more clearly what i meant. For who ever can help thanks in advance. (more...)

Resolved Question: karate and ADHD. your thoughts please?
i've had several suggestions on here to enroll my 5-year old boy (who has ADHD and is extremely hyper) in karate --for extra energy release and discipline. but are there karate classes out there specifically for kids with ADHD? i'm just worried that even if i brief the instructor about my son's condition, he might not have the patience with him. i'm also thinking of enrolling my 7-year old boy (who is at risk of ADHD, not hyper at all, but is currently experiencing some low self esteem issues) in karate. Open Question: Compaq Presario S6000NX drivers?
Okay, so to make this as brief as possible, I have an 80GB hard drive I've taken out of my Dell Dimension 3000 and I want to use it as the master drive in my Compaq Presario S6000NX while using the Compaq's 40GB hard drive as a slave. I have everything installed, but I can only boot Windows XP from the Compaq's hard drive because the Dell hard drive crashes due to major hardware changes. I need to make it so that the Dell hard drive can be the master and be able to successfully boot XP. My only issue is that it's got the Dell's drivers and hardware profiles, not to mention all my important files. All my files are around 65GB in size and the Compaq hard drive is a 40GB and I can't afford to lose any of my files. I was wondering if somebody could give me a full list of drivers I need to download for the Presario. I'm planning on taking the 80GB hard drive (but it's 5400RPM so I don't want to use it) out of an old HP Pavilion and wipe it out, then install it in the Compaq and install XP on it, then I'll move all my files from my Dell hard drive onto the HP one so I can do the same thing on the Dell hard drive (wipe it out and re-install XP on the Compaq). I want to do this so I don't lose ANY of my files because I need them ALL. I was wondering if somebody could give me a list of drivers or a website where I can download the drivers for the Compaq machine because I don't have internet at home and where I get internet access, I can download files other than EXE files, so maybe MSI files? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Oh, and I'm also going to need all my installed programs off the Dell hard drive and be able to use them after they've been moved back from the HP hard drive when I've re-installed XP. I've got all my custom settings and preferences all on the Dell HD so is it possible to use the Files & Settings Transfer Wizard on the Dell and back them up on my flash drive? What I'll need to do is I'll need to put the power supply and RAM back into the Dell tower and run the wizard on there. In order to use all programs successfully, can I even back up my registry on the Dell machine so I can use all my programs on the Compaq once the "migration" has been completed? Oh, you know what I was thinking? Since I have Nero Back-It-Up installed on the Dell, can I use the HP drive as a slave and back up the Dell drive onto the HP one while they're in the Dell machine? Could I still have full access to my user account, settings, preferences and all my programs along with the ability to install XP and the drivers on the Compaq? In other words, use Nero Back-It-Up and have all files backed up onto HP drive, wipe out Dell drive and install XP and necessary drivers in the Compaq machine and take files from the backup process off the HP drive and move them to the Dell drive and be able to use all programs and settings as if I was using the hard drive originally on the Dell where I had everything installed on? Oh and also, what processor would be better to use, the Celeron or the Pentium? The Pentium is from the Dell and it's 3.68GHz while the Celeron is on the Compaq and it's 2.73GHz. I was thinking the Pentium might be better, because of the speed, but then again, the Celeron could be better despite the fact it's lower than the Pentium. (more...)

Resolved Question: A co-worker issue help pls!?
Sorry this'll be long, but There is a job I just took on in which I didin't realize there was a "lead" already in place there, in my room. It's a childcare ctr., there are not as many children there than I am used to working with. Since I first began there the "head T" has not been very friendly at all nor made any attempt to speak w/ me at all anyway. (A co-teacher there is one other in the rm., "thinks" that it is b/c I have more experience than her in the field, and am younger, basically could do what she does. Although I do not come across as cocy in that sense at all. There is also a site supervisor, so she is not the actual supervisor. When I first started the job, I noticed she was really bossy and rude to the other co-teacher in the rm., who just "lets it go." andshe has a generally bossy, rude, basically obnoxious attitude, (for ex. in my first weeks, she didn't attempt to introduce me to any of the parents, at all, and still hasn't, which is odd for a center.) The enviornment carries on w/ her and a couple other T's having a playful yet way of interacting which involves talking negatively about parents, even the boss. Anyway It has gotten to the point where I have stopped trying to make conversation w/ her, and this possible bothers her, as today I overheard her talking about me in a way that was passive-aggressive to the other co-teachers. It was so brief that I couldn't reply in regards to it. I am leaving soon, anyway, since I am unhappy w/ the enviornment and style of the school anyway. However since she is considered the "lead," 2 q's: how can I remain calm while given this treatment from someone who's supposed to be higher up, (will let the director have a clue once I resign,) but during a probation period, (theirs is 6 mos. also, which is crazy anyway,) do you need to give 2 wks. like a regular job? ThX a ton to all who bother to read all this and responds:):) (more...)

Resolved Question: Bridesmaid problem - please help! ?
I have a friend that I wasn't thinking of including in the wedding because she is always in finacial trouble and has two daughters. She generally asks me for help and money to which I can never say no. For example on christmas a birthdays she doesnt have money so I buy her daughters all of their gifts and give them to her so that they will think they are from santa / mom. I really help her as much as I can, some say I am too generous, but I really care about her girls and this is just how I am. Any how a few months ago while discussing my upcoming wedding she mentioned that if I including my fiance's sister-in-law rather than her in the wedding she would be hurt. I wasnt going to include my fiances sister-in-law (I baptized my fiances nephew , sister-in-laws son/ sister-in-law invited herself to be in wedding party but I never confirmed or asked her ....another story) anyhow so I asked her if she wanted to be in the bridal party. Now she is my friend but I am now regretting (I think I felt pressured at the time) asking her because she has self esteem issues (she always thinks people are talking about her, laughing at her, giving her dirty looks etc.) and is always in finacial turmoil. She also had a brief fling with my fiances brother who is the best man(best man now has a girlfriend/ she told me weeks later about the fling). I think she secretly wants to be paired with him at the wedding however my sister is the maid of honor so I want her paired with him. I am really confused about what to do. She seems excited about the wedding but sometimes I feel like she wont be able to afford the cost and really be there. She already mentioned the dresses (like 5 times) and that she cant wear a strapless gown because her chest is big (she's heavy set). When I mentioned to her that I didnt want a large wedding party she said "Well then who am I going to be paired with!?" I told her that maybe she might walk down alone. She can act funny at times, she can be paranoid such as in thinking people are giving her nasty looks or being rude to her when they really arent, I am worried about her acting like this at the wedding, especially since best man now has a girlfirend who most liklely will attend the wedding. Right now our wedding party consists of my sister my MOH, my cousin- a BM and my gf - a BM, and a best man. I really didnt want a big wedding party and I am not sure what to do. My wedding is in Novemeber, can I make an excuse and ask her now to be in it? Shall I tell her she will not be paired with a guy, I really think this is what she wants (she's man crazy sometimes). I really do care about her but I am scared. I also think she thinks she will be the maid of honor and be paired with my fiance's brother. Much of my family tells me that some people take advantage of me because they assume I am rich, which I really am not, I am just generous and hate to see people in trouble. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks so much (more...)

Open Question: My boyfriend likes me "too" much?
My boyfriend and I are crazy about each other and we have a great relationship. The one thing is, he is extremely attatched to me after a very short period of time. I think he loves me more than I love him. We're attatched in a different way- as in I could move on okay after it ended, but he couldn't. This is great right now, but I'm worried that it would be a very bad situation if we ever broke up. As in- he'd become really suicidal. This happened to me in my last relationship [that was so brief it couldn't even be considered a real realationship] and it caused issues for months. I'm worried about this happening again, only ten times worse because we have an actual bond. What should I do? [I don't want to break up with him.] (more...)
