Tell Me, Grandmother: Traditions, Stories, And Cultures Of Arapaho People (Women's West)
Tell Me, Grandmother: Traditions, Stories, And Cultures Of Arapaho People (Women's West) Tell Me, Grandmother is at once the biography of Goes-in-Lodge, a traditional Arapaho woman of the nineteenth century, and the autobiography of her descendant, Virginia Sutter, a modern Arapaho woman with a PhD in public administration. Sutter adeptly weaves her own story with that of Goes-in-Lodge -- who, in addition to being Sutter's great-grandmother, was first wife of Sharpnose, the last chief of the Northern Arapaho nation. Writing in a question-and-answer format between twentieth-century granddaughter and matriarchal ancestor, Sutter discusses four generations of home life, including details about child rearing, education, courtship, marriage, birthing, and burial. Sutter's portrait of Goes-in-Lodge is based on tribal history and interviews with tribal members. Goes-in-Lodge speaks of social and ceremonial gatherings, the Sun Dance, the sweat lodges, and the changes that took place on the Great Plains throughout her lifetime. Sutter details her own life as a child born in a teepee to a white mother and Indian father and the discrimination and injustice she faced struggling to make her way in an increasingly Euro-American world.

Resolved Question: Is this a coincidence?
Okay this has gotten to a point where it has become funny. A week ago I decided to go snowboarding with my friends. At the end of the day I got altitude sickness and went in the lodge. I kept looking at my board every few minutes and after about 30 mins of sitting I noticed that it wasnt there any more. Someone stole it( it was a 600$ board and 200$ bindings). I was stupid to leave it out there and I had a feeling someone would take it. 4 days later I got up to Colorado to snowboard(a new board) and put my gloves in my helmet right next to my feet. I was talking to my friend and noticed that someone had taken them and left the helmet... After buying a 50$ pair we found them on a snow pile 4 hours later. Today I just got back from colorado and Southwest lost my snowboard. Wtf is going on lol. I guess Im not meant to snowboard? (more...)

So we are getting married in like may of 2010 and we are thinking about a honeymoon in Colorado in the June. What do you think? And can we still go skiing and what not during that time? are there specific spots we would have to stay at to do this? And lastly anyone have a really nice lodge or something like that to stay at? We have never been so we do not know what is nice. But we don't want to stay in like a hotel we figure if we are going to do the skiing thing then lets do it the real way :) (more...)

Resolved Question: Why do Democrats not understand the wealthy keep the rest of us employed?
Now, I was under the impression, because I listened to Senator Obama during the campaign, that he's only going to raise taxes on the rich, 'cause they've got it. They don't need it. They have more than they need. They can afford it. So he needs to raise taxes on the rich and cut taxes on the, quote, unquote, "middle class." So he wants economic recovery to bubble up from the bottom or whatever, which is very tough to do when you're at the bottom and you're broke. I don't know how you bubble anything up when you're broke, but that's not the point. I have a story here from AP-Obama, and it's about three Colorado ski resorts being "forced" to lay off workers. (gasping) It's from the Durango Herald. We read the Durango Herald every day here. It's part of our show prep rotation. (laughing) It might embarrass them so much they go out of business. "This ski season is shaping up to be the worst in years, said a Canadian ski-resort company that has announced it has laid off workers across a dozen resorts, including three in Colorado. Vancouver-based Intrawest Corp. hasn't said exactly how many workers it let go, but company officials say the weak economy is squeezing the ski business." Now, who is it that goes out to Colorado and skis? No, it's not the poor. The poor are working in the hotels. The poor are working in the restaurants, the, quote, unquote, poor. The poor are working at the ski resorts where the rich are not going because the economy is cutting into their disposable income and they think that they've got tax increases coming. "Colorado's Steamboat Ski & Resort, for example, is more than three hours by car from Denver. Because of that, most visitors fly in and stay several days, while smaller resorts closer to big cities have an easier time surviving a poor economy. 'They're not as dependent on out-of- state and international visitors,' Dave Belin, director at Boulder-based research firm RRC Associates, told the Rocky Mountain News. In a survey of skiers conducted online last month, RRC found that most skiers planned to ski as often as last year. But they planned to cut back in other ways -- on lodging, lessons and other extras such as traveling a long way to get to a ski mountain." See, I thought tax increases and other trivial income killers amounted to chump change to wealthy Americans. But this is what I told you, and this is the main reason I said we gotta support Senator McCain, in fact, because of his tax policy was right. Every time you hear Obama or some Democrat talking about raising taxes on the rich to help the little guy, it's the little guy that gets shafted, and this ski resort story is a classic example. So we have to take the wealthy down a notch or two. How could that hurt anybody? Why, that couldn't hurt anybody! We gotta take the wealthy down a notch or two. They give up a little chump change, Obama can spend it on welfare checks for those who don't pay income taxes, and life is good for everybody! Except raising taxes is not chump change to rich people. That was just Obama shooting his mouth off. It turns out when the wealthy are pummeled by bad economic news of any kind they pull back, too. Nothing is chump change, and so now they're going to visit ski resorts less. And when they, the people that pay the freight by going skiing go less or don't stay overnight in hotels and so forth the ski resorts, three of them owned by a Canadian firm, are laying off the little guy, the guy who's supposed to benefit from tax increases on the rich. Resolved Question: In Colorado, please give me a lodging place right next to the slopes and airport.Either in Denver or Steamboat?

Resolved Question: My husband's ex-wife is planning to move to New Orleans from MS- what can we do?
So, I got this message on MySpace from a friend of mine who knows my husband's ex wife... Hope you feel better. I just read Angela's thing and it said she can't wait for the move to -I think it said NOrleans?? Is she taking the kids? Just curious. Hope all is going good. Getting ready for Ryan's first Thanksgiving? We are leaving in a few weeks for Colorado. We will be gone over Thanksgiving. Everyone is so excited. We are staying at a great Lodge Resort. Have a great rest of the week. Talk to you soon. JUlie For starters, we live in north MS- quite a ways from New Orleans. I don't think she's moving and if she is I don't think it's any time soon, but that is all speculation, I have no idea if she is or isn't or when. I'd love to see her leave! The problem is that she has 2 kids with my husband. She has custody and he gets visitation. Can she legally take them? How soon in advance does she have to notify him or the courts? Can my husband fight her over this? We don't really want to ask her about it but my husband is going to this evening (once everyone is off work, etc.) but in the meantime our minds are racing. He is a good father, we have the kids a lot more than the visitation schedule is written up for, he's never late on child support or any other expenses that he has to pay. (more...)

Resolved Question: Why is this Ron Paul senior aide & Bob Barr aide pleading for Libertarians to vote McCain/Palin?
FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE, SOCIALLY TOLERANT, PRO-DEFENSE! November 2, 2008 I have been a lifetime Libertarian Party activist, for over 25 years. I?ve served in numerous capacities, including on the Libertarian National Committee, as a Libertarian State Rep. candidate, and as Ron Paul?s Personal Travel Aide in his 1988 Libertarian Presidential campaign. I?ve also served as Ron Paul?s Congressional Campaign Coordinator and as his Senior Congressional Aide for 7 years, 1997-2004. This election year, I?ve been supporting Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr. As a matter of fact, I?m the very guy who recruited his running mate Wayne Root into the race. Since the Spring, I?ve been the Party?s lead petitioner around the Nation. I?ve collected tens of thousands of signatures to get Barr/Root on the ballot in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine and Rhode Island. However, I was greatly encouraged by McCain?s pick of Sarah Palin for his VP. Palin has a solid libertarian background. In 2005/06 she was the guest speaker at two Libertarian Party meetings in Anchorage. She Up until now, I?ve encouraged my fellow Libertarians to follow their conscience and vote for either McCain/Palin or for Barr/Root, if it suits them better. I now believe, two days before Election Day, that this campaign is just too critical to risk on such a strategy, and if Libertarians won?t put the liberty of our country ahead of our party ambitions, who else in this country will? Obama is fundamentally opposed to virtually all libertarian stances on all issues. From taxes, to freedom of speech, to protecting property rights, to putting a halt to the ever-encroaching Nanny-state, and 4 years of an Obama Presidency will have disastrous results for liberty, and supporters of the limited government view. As evidence of this, Obama has taken to lodge a full frontal assault on the libertarian movement within the last couple days. In two separate speeches Obama accused McCain/Palin of supporting tax cuts because they believed in the ?Virtue of Selfishness." ABC News confirmed that the phrase was most likely a direct hit at libertarian icon Philosopher Ayn Rand. By attacking Individualist philosophy, in essence, Obama has declared war on libertarians and the libertarian movement in these closing days of Election ?08. How should libertarians respond? It is now my strong feeling that libertarians nationwide, and most assuredly my fellow Libertarian Party members, should strongly consider casting their votes for Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin. The libertarian movement would be best served with an Obama defeat. Bob Barr has been polling around 1 to 1.5% in recent polls. A Research 2000/Daily Kos poll released just Friday, had Barr at a full 2%. That is more than enough to cause McCain/Palin to go down to defeat. As we all know, a good 90% of Libertarian votes come directly out of the GOP column. I urge my Libertarian friends, especially those in ?swing states? to shift these final days to McCain/Palin. Those States that are especially critical include: New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada. McCain/Palin lead Obama/Biden in the latest poll out of Wyoming with 68% to 32%. A Libertarian vote cast for Barr/Root in Wyoming, or even Utah, Idaho, Alabama, Kansas, and my native Texas, would not cause any harm. But Libertarians in the critical swing states must now weigh their vote very seriously and with great caution. Do we want a guarantee of tax increases for virtually all taxpayers, more federalization of education, more pork barrel spending, and continuation of affirmative action quotas, a return of the so-called Fairness Doctrine intended to silence the voice of libertarians and conservatives across the nation? Or, do we want a friendly ear in a confirmed Libertarian Party friend and ally in the office of the Vice-Presidency of the United States. For these reasons, I am voting for McCain/Palin on Tuesday and I urge all of my Libertarian friends to do the same. Our party has made great gains and that is important. Nobody in the libertarian movement has worked harder than I have to assure those gains. But at this moment in history, we must stand with our conservative friends, against a massive affront upon liberty and freedom itself. I call upon all freedom loving libertarians to consider this situation carefully and stand with me! Eric Dondero LIBERTARIANS FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE, SOCIALLY TOLERANT, PRO-DEFENSE! (more...)

Resolved Question: Where should I go for a romantic Colorado vacation?
My fiance and I are wanting to take a trip to Colorado the beginning of January. We have absolutely NO idea where to go! We would like it to be a fairly romantic trip, as we will be celebrating 5 years together! We are planning on 3-4 nights. The things we are looking for in a trip to colorado: a place that is outside the city (no big cities within several miles) but we wouldn't mind being near a smaller town if we wanted to go out to eat. We would like to stay in a cabin or lodge. (Something with a colorado/mountain feel to it.) We would also like to have a private hot tub outside. We are looking for a place with a great view of the mountains, as well as being really close to a river/stream. We would like to do some fishing. We would also like to be near a place where we can go skiing. A cabin with a fireplace would also be nice...something cozy! The only other recommendation is that we want it to be preferably not on the western part of colorado because that would be pretty far for us to travel since Colorado is west of where we live! I have checked out many websites, but I am feeling overwhelmed with information on all these websites I go to. They all claim to "be the best" and its hard to tell from the pictures on the websites what you are really getting yourself into. If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!
