Mastering Family Therapy: Journeys of Growth and Transformation
Mastering Family Therapy: Journeys of Growth and Transformation A master class in family therapy--now updated with an additional ten years' case experience

Few people have had as profound an impact on the theory and practice of family therapy as Salvador Minuchin. As one commentator put it, "Memories of his classic sessions have become the standard against which therapists judge their own best work." This new edition of the classic, Mastering Family Therapy, offers beginners and experienced practitioners alike the opportunity to learn the art and science of family therapy under this pioneering clinician and teacher.

In elegant clinical interplays, Minuchin, his colleagues Wai-Yung Lee and George Simon, and eight advanced students provide answers to such critical questions as:
* What does it take to master the art of family therapy?
* How do I create an effective personal style?
* How can I become an instrument for growth for troubled families?

This updated Second Edition features:
* An overview and critique of new models of treatment in the field, especially evidence-based models of family treatment
* New case material highlighting the impact of societal context on families
* Minuchin's conceptualization of a four-step process of family assessment, including how history can impact current family functioning

A new and thoroughly revised version of the classic text, Mastering Family Therapy, Second Edition is essential reading for all those who practice, study, or teach family therapy.

Relational Coaching: Journeys Towards Mastering One-To-One Learning
Relational Coaching: Journeys Towards Mastering One-To-One Learning Manfred Kets de Vries, Professor of Leadership Development, INSEAD:

“The author takes us on an exciting journey to explain what coaching is all about, providing us with a roadmap that is second to none. Anyone interested in better understanding what coaching is all about, would do well to have a serious look at this book.”

David Megginson, Professor of Human Resources Development, Sheffield Hallam University:

“From a vivid personal story just before the first chapter to the fascinating mass of data in the appendices, this book is a captivating read about the concrete particulars of coaching and the theoretical perspectives we can use to make sense of them. Erik de Haan makes a case for relational coaching and prescribes clearly what his research and the tradition within which it is embedded can tell practitioners in the field.”

Bruce E. Wampold, Professor of Counseling Psychology, University of Wisconsin:

“I am thrilled that there is a coaching book that emphasizes the coachee and the relationship. In Relational Coaching, Erik de Haan places the emerging profession on a strong foundation that emphasizes the interpersonal aspects of the endeavour.”

Relational Coaching is a radically different way of looking at coaching that puts the relationship, from the perspective of the coachee, at the centre. Exploring both age-old tradition and reliable studies in recent decades, Relational Coaching gives the modern executive coach ten commandments to help improve his or her practice. The book demonstrates how each of these commandments is underpinned by sound quantitative research.

The book begins by giving a complete overview of the profession and the latest developments in coaching. The second part of the book presents new quantitative and qualitative research into effects and experiences of coaching. Part three contains an introduction to the activities that make a good coach and the mechanisms used to verify coaches’ understanding of their profession. Other topics covered include training, accreditation, supervision and recommended literature.

Voting Question: Evolution versus creationism : What is your opinion on it...?
" Evolution versus creationism " by the Master ?, through Benjamin Creme, 9 November 2008 Many people believe, or affect to believe, that this world as it stands today is not more than 5,000 years old; that Man and all the creatures of the animal kingdom and the rocks of the mineral kingdom were created in a few days, fully fledged and finished in all aspects. They hold that evolution is a myth, that the Christian Bible account of creation is literally true and correct. To accept such a theory it is necessary to close one?s eyes to science in general and to the sciences of geology, anthropology, palaeontology and archaeology in particular. It is indeed true to say that there was a time when men did not walk the Earth, when dinosaurs, gigantic in size, roamed and ruled instead. It is also true that, according to Our reckoning, Man?s history is infinitely older than today?s science believes. By today?s reckoning, humanity is approximately five or six million years old at the most. By Our science and tradition, however, early animal-man had reached the point when individualization became possible, and the ?Sons of mind? began their long journey of evolution. It has taken Man 18-and-a-half million years to reach the level of today. How then is it possible for intelligent, educated ?creationists? to hold, against the evidence of science, what seems to be a ludicrous concept? Cross-purposes The answer lies in the fact that the evolutionists and the creationists are really arguing at cross-purposes; both, in their limited way are right. Modern scientists, looking objectively at the findings of Darwin, have accumulated a wealth of evidence for the case of evolution, a long, slow development of men from animal ancestors, in particular by the development of mind. The creationists look to the Christian Bible as their guide, ignoring the fact that the Bible was written by hundreds of people over hundreds of years; that it is written in symbolic language, and is meant to be symbolic rather than factual. The creationist is at pains to emphasise that ?Man? was made by God, in ?God?s own image?, and so owes nothing to evolution. To such, Darwin and those who follow him are missing the point about Man: that he is a spiritual being, of divine heritage, and if he does not always behave as God?s creation he has been corrupted by Satan. Bridged Can these two diametrically opposed views be bridged and expanded at the same time? From Our point of understanding the scientists of today, the evolutionists, are undoubtedly correct in their analysis of Man?s development from the animal kingdom. We owe our physical bodies to the animal kingdom. That, however, does not make us animals. Darwin, and those who correctly followed his thought, describes only the outer, physical development of Man, largely ignoring that we are all engaged in the development of consciousness. The human body has all but reached its completeness: there remains little further to be achieved. From the standpoint of consciousness, however, man has scarcely taken the first steps towards a flowering which will prove that man is indeed divine, a Soul in incarnation. One day, the fact of the Soul will be proved by science and so become generally accepted, and the old dichotomy will be healed." http://www.share-international.org/magazine/old_issues/2008/2008-12.htm#master @ Pangloss : Read carefully from the article : " We owe our physical bodies to the animal kingdom. Open Question: OTHER than Naruto does my story sound too familiar to any current or past mangas or anime?
My story features characters from different racial backgrounds so that should distinguish it from others stories right? Dragon Kamaris: Legend of the Black Dragon is an ongoing American manga series written and illustrated by Robert Tate and Sokhorn Tem. The plot tells the story of Jelani Toteh, an arrogant teenage ninja, who searches for the assassins responsible for killing his master. He soon discovers that he is the prophesied ?Black Dragon? destined to bring the 3 Nations back to peace. Plot Twenty years before the start of the series, the Four Dragons (Aku, Gia, Naga, Hajj) were the protectors of the world. They were the wisest and most powerful creatures on Earth and they had two human students; The Sanari brothers; Onu and Kayo. They taught the brothers many fighting techniques and helped them to develop their amazing powers. Kayo the younger brother became jealous of Onu?s popularity and fast learning and desired to be the most powerful and feared ninja. He was encouraged to find a magic amulet said to be able to control the Four Dragons and when he found it he put it to use. The amulet instead killed the Dragons and the 3 Unified Nations split and went to war for ten years. Twenty years later Kayo (now calling himself Lord Natas) is planning an attack on the other Nations for complete control of the world, but the prophecy fortells of the ?Black Dragon? a powerful ninja that will rise up and bring peace back to the world. The main story follows Jelani and his friends' personal growth and development as ninjas, and emphasizes their interactions with each other and the influence of their backgrounds on their personalities. Jelani finds a friend and comrade in Akira Li a fellow young ninja who is the only person that can tolerate his cocky personality. Jelani also befriends other characters such as Hania, Asir Lara, and his love interest Princess Amaya. They learn new abilities, get to know each other and experience a coming-of-age journey. His search for the murderers of his Master lead him to a assassin organization called Demon Dragons. He learns that all but one of the original members have been killed. The surviving member is a girl named Imani who lives in the Tiger Nation. After learning of her identity he decides to head to the Tiger Nation for revenge but is stopped by an old man who tells him his destiny is much greater than that. The old man introduces himself as Master Onu Sanari and he tells Jelani and the gang of his brother Lord Natas and the need to defeat him. He says that Jelani is the prophesied ?Black Dragon? and that only he can defeat Natas and bring peace back to the world. Jelani is uninterested intially but soon goes on a journey with his friends to find a mythical trainer that will help him fufill his destiny. Setting The world of Dragon Kamaris consists of three Nations (Countries) Tiger, Eagle, and Cobra. Each Nation is ruled by a King and Queen and include cities and villages and Forests; the White (Magic), Green (Plant Life), and Blue (Water). Each Nation has a Ninja Academy where they train men/boys and women/girls. Before the split they held annual tournaments. I know it sounds kinda familiar but it's still good right? (more...)

Resolved Question: Feedback for my story?
Please don't be too harsh. I'm only 12 and not very experienced. CHAPTER ONE I used to be a bright and happy girl, but that was before everything went wrong. Here?s how it all happened. It was a freezing winter?s day. I was sitting by the window, watching snowflakes twirl and dance in the air before dropping to the white snow. I opened the window and let the chilly wind blow into my face. I had never seen snow before, and I was curious to touch it. I ran down the stairs, expecting to hear my loud, heavy footsteps that usually scared away the cat that sat in front of the broom cupboard. Instead, there was silence. But something strange happened, the cat still darted down the hall. I stood silently, not daring to breathe incase I didn?t hear anything. It was strange, perhaps it was a dream or maybe I didn?t clean out my ears. I walked to the door and flung it open. When the door didn?t bang as it hit the wall, I screamed. I didn?t hear my ear-splitting scream, but everyone else did. The cook, the children, the orphanage master, the nurse and the cleaner came running downstairs. I couldn?t hear their frantic, questioning yells or the master scolding me, but I could read their faces. The master grabbed both of my shoulders and shook me roughly with a fierce look on his face. His mouth moved quickly and I tried to imagine what he was saying. He probably said, ?Iris, what has gotten into you? You have woken up everyone and probably the neighbours too!? I shook my head slowly, tears streaming down my face. I pulled myself from Mr. Langrod?s grasp and bounded up the stairs into my small room. So here I am now, in the middle of the night, planning my escape to find my true family. No one in the orphanage had loved me, not even Mr. Langrod, the orphanage master. If they found out I was deaf, only God knows how they would treat me. I thrust the few of my belongings into an old, dirty backpack. A few clothes, a rusty torch, some stones I had collected by the lake that was now frozen, a few of my favourite books, a pouch of dried flowers and a photo album containing pictures of a happy family, no doubt it was from my past. I was about to head out when I remembered my locket. I felt under my bed until my hands reached something hard, the locket. I closed my fingers around the cool surface of the locket and held it up to the light of the window so I could see it. I traced my fingers over the swirly patterns on the locket and sighed. I now longed for my family more than ever. If I didn?t find my family, I would be lost, a small girl in a big world. I opened the locket and looked at the two black and white pictures in it. There was a beautiful woman on the right with her hair tied up in a tight bun and on the left there was a well-groomed man with thin glasses. Of course they aren?t my parents, the pictures look too old for that, but it was around my neck when I was found on the orphanage steps, so they must be apart of my past. I suddenly realized something. If my parents had abandoned me, why would they want me back? I was filled with sadness. Even if they don?t want me, anywhere is better than here. I placed the locket around my neck carefully. After a quick glance around the room, I tiptoed out the room and headed towards the kitchen. When I was sure there was no one in there, I went up to the nearest cupboard and filled up the rest of my bag with food for my journey. I packed bread, cheese, lentils, a few fruits and vegetables and a large bottle of water. I went to the study and took out a clean sheet of paper and a pen. Taking a deep breath, I wrote a letter in my best handwriting. Dear Mr. Langrod, I am awfully sorry for leaving so suddenly, but I have decided it is time or me to move on and find my real family. I thank you for the kindness you have shown me during my stay at The Montmert Orphanage. The reason I have decided to leave is because the urge to find my family has become greater and I can no longer stand it without knowing the truth. I hope you will forgive me. Yours Sincerely, Iris P.S. You might need to do your shopping again. I have taken the bread, cheese, lentils, apples, oranges, carrots and potatoes. I folded the letter in half and slotted it into an envelope. Silently, I sneaked into Mr. Langrod?s office and placed the letter on his desk. When I had finished putting each of my special stones on each of the orphan?s desk, I snuck out of the orphanage and stood infront of it. I don?t know how long I stood there, gazing at the big oak door and the grimy windows. I examined every little pattern in the roof and the different shades of brown on the bricks. Finally, I turned my back on the orphanage and focused on the road which lay infront of me, the road that stretched all the way onto the horizon, the road that would lead me to my future. (more...)

Resolved Question: Can you believe that US Government Defense system is spending 1000s of dollars to "Track Santa"? Seriously??!?
Military center tracking Santa's sleigh ride COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? Who says Santa Claus doesn't exist? The military personnel charged with being the eyes in the sky are certainly acting like he does ? and they've been joined on the Internet by millions of believers. Even doubters have reason to pause when they hear the North American Aerospace Defense Command ? or NORAD, which monitors air and space threats against the U.S. and Canada ? is in charge of the annual Christmas mission to keep children informed of Santa's worldwide journey to their homes. "They challenge it, but only to a point," said Senior Master Sgt. Sharon Ryder-Platts, 49, who for five years has been a Santa tracker, taking calls from those wanting to know the location of jolly old St. Nick. According to NORAD, Santa began his latest flight early Wednesday at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean. Historically, Santa visits the South Pacific first, then New Zealand and Australia. NORAD points out that only Santa knows his route. Last year, NORAD's Santa tracking center answered 94,000 calls and responded to 10,000 e-mails. About 10.6 million visitors went to the Web site, which can be viewed in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese. (I get it, Santa is the spirit of Christmas, and it's great for the Children, But in this economy to pay people to answer the phones, work the computer systems and "track santa" it's just a big waste of money in this economy. I VOTE EVERY single Election since I was 18. I voted in every election in 2004 and every election in 2008. I love the Spirit of Christmas! I really really do. Resolved Question: What is your favorite dog poem?
Here's mine: The time comes. A Siberian Husky lifts up its head. There is an untested adventure beyond. Time to go. Across the Rainbow Bridge is a place for all dogs. A river runs wide and shallow with tennis balls that fly with their own wings; that is the place for a Labrador or Golden to await its master's arrival. The Siberian is not content here. Northward is its trail.... There are soft pastures for Aussies and Border Collies, with sheep and geese to pen. Agility equipment grows like trees amid Frisbees and flyball. But the North continues its sure wild call, and the Siberian's journey continues.... Now the air is colder. Now the moon is always full. Now the light is silver and it breaks and shimmers on fields of bright snow. Now there are no roads, no walls, no pens, just endless space to run. This is where Siberians gather, North of the Rainbow Bridge. *Copied from the Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue site* this poem literally brought tears to my eyes. What is your favorite poem (more...)

Voting Question: I'm writing a fantasy novel and need opinions!?
I'm working on a fantasy story concerning a man named Alex who gets involved in a war between the real world and the fantasy world. A dark master from the "fantasy realm" invades the "real world" with a plan to conquer this world and use it as a base to other worlds, seeing as we are the most intelligent and have better technology. The first place of attack is New York with the Dark Master's airships appearing over the city, while Alex is celebrating his graduation in his dad's office building on the 26th floor. The airships destroy the building but Alex manages to escape, but his father's life is lost. Alex proceeds to the subway and boards it hoping to make it back to the other side of the city and reach his home and friends. But the airships destroy the bridge and Alex goes into the New York harbor. He is rescued by fleeing humans and manages to make it back to his house in Queens. His friend is there and they remember the friends girlfriend is nearby and they go for her. Upon arriving the girl is dead and the friend is hurt and angry. As they mourn, a military platoon arrives and Alex and his friend are recruited to the army against the Dark Master. Alex and his friend escape the destruction of New York City and flee to the nation's capital to be debriefed since the first attack was Alex's graduation party. Alex's girlfriend, Serena, is there as well and safe. Alex and his friend go through tons of hardships along the way and fight many battles, becoming smarter with each one. Two years pass and the "real world" is about to end. Then, Alex and his friend are recruited for a secret plan of infiltrating the "fantasy world" and fighting the dark master there. They agree and journey to the fantasy world, where the battle becomes even harder. They learn that the Dark Master has sent a destroyer to our world in hopes of causing Armageddon and rebuilding the earth in his image. Alex's friend dies along the way, but he manages to make it to the Dark Master's stronghold, with a set of mines to detonate a bomb inside the "fantasy world", that would destroy the fantasy world foil all the Dark Master's plans as well as close the portal and save the world. Alex journeys to the top of the tower statue made after the Dark Master and fights him on top of it. Alex's guns have no effect on The Dark Master as he constantly heals himself from the wounds. Alex resorts to hand to hand combat and easily defeats the Dark Master since he has no fighting abilities, being raised on magic and swords to defend himself. It is too late though, as the Destroyer is entering the portal to the "real world" and the end of the world is about. The Dark Master laughs and says there is nothing he can do to stop the destroyer now. Alex remembers that you have to travel through limbo to get to the "real world" so he gets on his radio and talks to Serena one last time, telling her that he loves her and he'll look in on her from time to time and as the Destroyer is about to come into the "real world" Alex detonates the mine and destroys the Dark Master's scepter, closing the portal and trapping the Destroyer in limbo for eternity. The "real world" holds a celebration in honor of Alex's sacrifice and Serena reveals that Alex's legacy will live on, considering she is pregnant with Alex's child. There you have it, that's the basic idea. I know there are some plot points that are random but I need feedback. Thanks if you leave a comment! (more...)

She may go to a postgraduate school to pursue a master's degree. After graduation, she may consider marriage. But this is only my own imagination. If you have gone through this phase of life, can you give me more information? What is the journey of a female graduate with a bachelor's degree during the next five years? (more...)
