Monumental guide to the Gettysburg battlefield. A map showing the location of every monument, marker and tablet with approaching roads and avenues Copyright 1899 by Schuyler A. Hammond & Edgar M. Hewitt. (Civil War Map Reprint: 26" x 36")

High quality reproduction of a historic map from the Civil War Map Collection from the Library of Congress. (most 1860s-1890s). Collection contains nearly 1,700 maps from the digital collections. Some are just from the era of the Civil War, while most are battlefield maps made during or soon after the end of the war. We currently list only those maps that are in the public domain. These maps vary significantly in image density, size, wear, visual appeal, and quality. We are in the process of digitally "cleaning up" these maps to try to restore them to the extent possible. This is a very time consuming process and some types of damage cannot be repaired. We are also producing these maps as orders or inquiries are made about them individually (also keep in mind that some people want to receive prints of the maps as is--i.e. without removal of wear, aging, library stamps, and damage). These are High Quality Prints offered by AntiqueReprints.

Open Question: How to solve these math problems ?
A 40 ft tall monument casts a shadow that just reaches the base of a 4 ft tall parking meter. If the parking meter's shadow is 6.5 long, how far apart are the monument and the meter?
Stanley is 6 ft tall. He wants to stand in the shade of a tree that is 35 ft tall. If the tree casts a 10 ft shadow, what is the farthest Stanley can stand from the tree and completely be in it's shadow? Round your anwser to the nearest tenth of a foot.

Resolved Question: I'm Looking for a movie title involving a beauty shop...?
I saw this movie a few nights ago. It's an African American movie about a beauty shop that risks being closed down in order to be turned into a parking lot. The main character falls in love with the lawyer who was against her at first but then sides with her. She ends up saving her shop when she finds that her beauty shop was the home of Frederick Douglas so it is considered a historical monument and therefore cannot be torn down.
I don't remember any character names except for Didi, which was a gay hair stylist at the shop and Percy, who came every day from the nursing home down the street.
ITS NOT THE MOVIE BEAUTY SHOP WITH QUEEN LATIFAH IN IT

Resolved Question: Can you help...us all out.......we are in a pinch....?
Dear Friend,
No one voted on Election Day to hand over Utah's Redrock
wilderness to oil companies.
But the Bush Administration cynically chose that very day to
advance an outrageous plan that will sell off leases for some
160,000 acres of spectacular Utah canyonlands to oil and gas
speculators.
While America was voting for Barack Obama and his vision of a
clean energy future, Bush and Cheney's underlings were
conspiring to plunder one of the crown jewels of our natural
heritage for their fossil fuel cronies.
Please register your own opposition right now:
http://www.nrdconline.org/ct/Wp4p8g413PJm/
The auction of Redrock country will take place on December 19.
At stake are world-renowned vistas near Canyonlands and Arches
National Parks, as well as near Dinosaur National Monument. The
highest bidders will earn the right to turn vast tracts of
pristine wilderness into industrial wastelands.
It's bad enough that Bush officials went behind the backs of the
American people with this disastrous scheme. But what's worse,
they didn't even tell their own National Park Service until
after the fact.
In my mind, this theft of our heritage goes beyond the cynical
-- it's criminal. What will be left to give to our children and
their children if we allow this administration, in a parting
shot, to destroy our legacy of public lands for short-term gain?
I hope you're as angry as I am about this blatant land grab,
because we've got to stop it -- and we have to act fast. The
NRDC Action Fund is mobilizing more than one million Americans
in an outpouring of protest over the coming days.
Send your own message of opposition immediately:
http://www.nrdconline.org/ct/Wp4p8g413PJm/
Tell the Bush Administration that you will not allow it to
destroy one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
We'll automatically send copies of your message to your two
senators, your representative and to the Obama transition team,
which has signaled their opposition to this disastrous attack on
our Redrock heritage.
The Bush Administration is racing to complete the auction of our
lands before Inauguration Day, which will make sales difficult
to reverse.
We must fend off this land grab now -- before the oil and gas
companies can lay claim to the spoils.
Those spoils include stretches of Desolation Canyon, which has
been proposed for national park status. Bush's own Interior
Department describes the canyon as "a place where a visitor can
experience true solitude -- where the forces of nature continue
to shape the colorful, rugged landscape."
The very idea of oil and gas operations invading these remote
sanctuaries -- which have remained untouched for millennia -- is
deeply upsetting. Once the dirty deed is done, our wilderness
can never be restored. That's why I'm asking you to help us
sound the alarm and organize now.
Tell the Bush Administration to cancel the Redrock auction:
http://www.nrdconline.org/ct/Wp4p8g413PJm/
Remind them that we the people are the rightful owners of this
majestic wilderness and that we won't stand for its destruction.
And thank you for joining with me and the NRDC Action Fund to
save these beautiful wildlands for all future generations.
Sincerely,
Robert Redford
NRDC Action Fund

Resolved Question: Do you think this sounds like a good start to a story?
Michael stepped out through the double stained glass doors and into the dark abandoned parking lot. It was very quiet and gave off an unwelcome presence that made Michael feel only more nervous. As he reached into is brown, oversized trench coat, pulling out his packet of Malbro.22 cigarettes, it began to rain lightly, but he knew more down pour was sure to follow which would only make things more difficult.
He reached into his cigarette packet and pullet out the one long crisp, straight cigarette that stood perfectly taller then the rest and drew it to his wet lips while lighting it with his other hand. It had been a while since he last smoked and he wanted to savor every last monument with his newly acquainted mistress.
As he took a long inhale of the cigarette he leaned his hand up against the car he was now standing adjacent to, but he slipped and almost fell choking on the smoke still in his mouth. As he regained his breath his first thought was the rain had made the car wet, but it had only been raining for a few brief minutes. He held his hand up against his cigarette to unveil the mystery that now plagued him. As he drew his hand closer to the light he saw that the liquid was not a white/clear substance but that of a shade of dark red, which could only be one thing?blood.
Michael quickly became very uneasy and started to pace slowly backwards, tripping on something; he ignited his lighter to see what he had fallen on. The lighter illuminated the area and he realized he hadn?t tripped on something but someone. The shock hit Michael as he realized that their laid Thomas Finch, the man Michael was suppose to meet. Now they would never have the pleasure. Michael quickly and thoroughly searched all of Tom?s pockets for the package he was meant to deliver. Finally he found what he was looking for, a white envelope neatly tucked away in his suits interior pocket.
Before he had a chance to open it and gaze upon the contents, he heard a noise from the other end of the parking lot, which was strange considering that this lot was deserted. He slowly pulled himself to his feet and began to survey the lot. He kept his ears sharp, the lot was silent, however he knew he was not alone. Michael reached inside his coat and pulled out his revolver and continued on. A sound came in the direction he was heading so he quickly moved towards where it came from.
Out of nowhere he took a hit to the chest, another followed again but he managed to block it and the next one. Michael continued his defense while trying to catch a glimpse of his attacker however his hooded jacket and the rain made it only harder to focus on his covered his face. He continued fighting, Michael landed an open fist on his foe but the foe didn?t even flinch. He grabbed Michael?s hand and threw it sideways putting Michael off balance, and before he knew it his feet was swept from underneath him now causing him to be suspended in the air. Michael?s enemy forced his fist into his chest. He flew back onto the ground and started rolling. Bracing himself, he reached to his side and drew out a small samurai sword, gaining his balance and raising himself up. He brushed the dust of his jacket casually, trying not to appear beaten, even though he knew he was in check. Michael wiped the rain from his brow and charged at his enemy, thrusting his sword at the enemy, but he dodged every attack. Out of nowhere the enemy now started advancing lunging at Michael. One punch, two, three and a fourth Michael now realized his was on the defense and his offensive was no more. Michael knew he had to act quickly or he would soon find himself checkmated. As the blood rushed threw his veins Michael focused and parried the fifth attack by side flipping to the left and it one graceful movement angled his sword and slashed the assassin across the left arm. The foe let out a high pitch scream. Michael now had the high ground and moved in for the killing blow but suddenly then behind them the double stained glassed doors burst open unleashing wave after wave of happily enlightened church attendees finishing their Sunday night service. This act caught Michael off guard he was sent flying by the foe onto the bonnet of his own car. Losing perception of his surroundings as he gathered himself he knew the Assassin was gone and along with that any leads.
Michael quietly entered his car and started the engine. He drove out of the lot; he threw the envelope on the passenger seat, no sooner then than the envelope landed, Michael?s phone began to ring. The caller idea listed the name, as Gabriel?Michael knew his boss wasn?t going to like the news he had to tell him.
hi all this is a draft i batched together for an idea im working on can people help tell me how it sounds etc, please be as harsh as possible if need be i like all the help i can get thankyou to all, sorry its so long

Resolved Question: Zion National Park / Bryce Canyon. which is better ?
We are visiting Las Vegas next week and are planning to drive north east into Utah. We haven't seen Bryce canyon nor Zion National Park. Since we are not planning on staying overnight in Utah, we want to see either one of the two. We have visited Grand Canyon & Monument Valley before and leaning towards Bryce Canyon. Is Zion spectacular enough to skip Bryce Canyon ? All your input is greatly appreciated.
