Konig. (Civil War Map Reprint: 30 High quality reproduction of a historic map from the Civil War Map Collection from the Library of Congress. (most 1860s-1890s). Collection contains nearly 1,700 maps from the digital collections. Some are just from the era of the Civil War, while most are battlefield maps made during or soon after the end of the war. We currently list only those maps that are in the public domain. These maps vary significantly in image density, size, wear, visual appeal, and quality. We are in the process of digitally "cleaning up" these maps to try to restore them to the extent possible. This is a very time consuming process and some types of damage cannot be repaired. We are also producing these maps as orders or inquiries are made about them individually (also keep in mind that some people want to receive prints of the maps as is--i.e. without removal of wear, aging, library stamps, and damage). These are High Quality Prints offered by AntiqueReprints.

The Great Crown Jewels Robbery of 1303: The Extraordinary Story of the First Big Bank Raid in History
The Great Crown Jewels Robbery of 1303: The Extraordinary Story of the First Big Bank Raid in History Many people know of Colonel Blood's attempt to steal the Crown Jewels during the reign of Charles II (1660-1685). However, Blood's conspiracy wasn't the first, and certainly not the most successful. In 1303, while Edward I of England was north of the Scottish border trying to crush William Wallace, he'd stashed his treasure safely in Westminster Abbey—behind iron-bound doors, in a place of sanctity which housed Christ's body, not to mention pious Benedictine monks.

Enter Richard Puddlicott, a former merchant who had been arrested in the Low Countries because of Edward I's debts. This charming dissolute rogue infiltrated the Abbey's inner circle (entertaining them on the proceeds of their own silver) and, before long, had helped himself to a good part of the treasure. The King's fury knew no bounds, but Puddlicott ran his men a merry dance before eventually being captured and sent—along with forty monks—to his death in the Tower.

This compelling work is an exhilarating tale of cunning deceit, lechery, feisty villains, meddling monks, greedy goldsmiths, and devious pimps and prostitutes. It takes the lid off both the medieval underworld and the assumed piousness of the monastic community.

Jihad in Brooklyn : The NYPD Raid That Stopped America's First Suicide Bombers
Jihad in Brooklyn : The NYPD Raid That Stopped America's First Suicide Bombers New York has always been a mecca for immigrants, including an Egyptian dishwasher living in a cramped Brooklyn apartment he shared with three other Middle-Eastern men. But on July 31, 1997, the last place he wanted to be was home, where two of his roommates-young, angry Palestinians-were proudly showing off the bomb belts they planned to detonate on a packed rush-hour subway train.

Barely able to stifle his panic, the Egyptian told two policemen his story. Within minutes, they were in a Brooklyn precinct house, and the NYPD's famous Emergency Services Unit was on their way.

The brave men of the NYPD ESU staged a daring 5 AM raid on the sweltering, filthy tenement apartment, stopping the terrorists- who literally had their fingers on the switches of the bombs. Hundreds-perhaps thousands-of lives were saved. This is their frightening, true story.

Burn the Town and Sack the Banks: Confederates Attack Vermont!
On a dreary October afternoon, bands of Confederate raiders held up the three banks in St. Albans. With guns drawn, they herded the townspeople out into the common, sending the people of the North into panic. Operating out of a Confederate stronghold in Canada, the raiders were young men, mostly escapees from Union prison camps, who had been recruited to inaugurate a new kind of guerilla war along the Yankees' unprotected border. The raid, though bungling at times, was successful — the consequent pursuit of the rebels into Canada. The celebrity-like trial it sparked in Montreal and resulting diplomatic tensions that arose between the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain, left the Southern dream of a second-front diversion in ruins. What survived, however, is a fascinating tale of the South's desperate attempt to reverse the course of the war. Burn the Town and Sack the Banks is a tale filled with dashing soldiers, spies, posses, bumbling plans, smitten locals, lawyers, diplomats, and an idyllic Vermont town, set against the backdrop of the great battles far from the Northern border that were bringing the Civil War to its bloody conclusion.

I just ordered a Dell xps 420 and I upgraded it to a Intel® Core?2 Q9400 Quad-Core (6MB L2 cache,2.66GHz,1333FSB) Processor. Also I added 6GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs (memory) Also the hard drive is 1TB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs) Also the video card is ATI Radeon HD3650 256MB And it has Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-Bit . Did I order a good computer or no. I know nothing about computers. I kinda thought the higher the price the better the computer. Did i make a good choice? Voting Question: Help with pricing WoW account?
I'm pretty much done playing - baby on the way and I don't want to be one of those moms who ignores the kid to be addicted to video games. I have an 80 mage with good enough gear to do 25-man Naxx or any other raid in the game - badge/heroic gear but no T7 yet. I'm keeping it until I can dump my DKP on a piece before I sell. The mage has epic riding/flying, cold weather flying, CE rep flyer, some rare pets, a lot of achievements, and CoN title (not much, but it's a title). There's about 4,000 gold total on the account, along with a 70 hunter (not very good gear) and a noob DK that could just get deleted. All name changes/transfers are open. Any ideas on a price? Just FYI, I won't be hurt at low estimates, I'd just be happy to get some of my money back. :) (more...)

Voting Question: SLI notebook or desktop? Prebuilt or custom?
I'm thinking of replacing my laptop with a SLI computer. Before I begin further, I do not plan on using it for gaming. Rather I am very big in to 3d applications, and use about 5-7 programs at the very same time. The reason I want a gaming computer is to handle those graphics and everything I do at once. What I need I suppose would be better describe as a workstation. Rendering needs at full HD capacity. I'm very interested in SLI computers. But not sure if I should go via laptop or desktop. If laptop it would be a prebuilt. Sagernotebook.com caught my eye and pctorque seems to have a better policy on them. They appear to be clevo computers. Which one should i get? I like the most expensive one because of the 3 RAID hd, (though I only need one) and it uses destop cpus and it looks like a beast. 4 things i do not like is the price, 1hr battery life, no hdmi, and the weight. I want something with 2-4 and maybe 5 hrs of battery life, one hd is fine, i want an actual video card and sli format. HDMI support as well. What laptop would people here recommend? I want something that so powerful it would last my entire life and still be upgradeable to beat whatever on the market. That might be a bit much but that is what i want. Try to be less than 2grand. Or should i go the desktop way? NO DELL (more...)

Voting Question: Laptop that will play WoW:WotLK at med-high settings?
I have looked online and either other folks answers are out of date, or they refer to a site like canurunit.com. The thing is, I don't have a laptop yet so those sites won't help. I am aware that WoW doesn't require a whole lot in the graphics area, however since I am used to playing on my desktop (that has a 9800gtx) I need at least something that will run on medium to high settings, especially spell detail. I raid and so I need steady FPS, i also need to be able to see spells at close-to-max setting via the in-game video options. I am looking at $1500 or below. I'm solid on that cap, as i really only want to spend 1k or less, so recommending anything over the 1500 range is useless. Please state if you (or someone you know) have or had the notebook if you do have a recommendation. Although i consider myself somewhat tech saavy (i have built all my desktops), the notebook area is new territory for me. I've been in a few to replace hinges and the like. If you know of a good base notebook, and can also recommend a graphics card to upgrade to - this would work as well just so long as the combined price is in my range. Laptop integrated graphics confuse me, I'm only familiar with PC card model numbers/specs - so specifics will help. The laptop will be more of a "get out of the house" project so i can visit with people, have a solution for those boring people who insist you visit them (you know the type that want you to suffer the boredom with them), and still make my raid commitments if i'm out and about. Resolved Question: What is your opinion on this story Ark. Hispanics gained new voice in difficult times bishops says illegals?
What is your opinion on this story Ark. Hispanics gained new voice in difficult times bishops says illegals have the "God-given right to immigrate." and again what is the Catholics position on illegasl who sneak into America obtain and use stolen or fake documents are these laws considered by the Catholic bishops to be unjust laws and therefore illegals have a God given right to use said docuements seeing as how the church says the laws are unjust ?Can someone list all laws bishops consider unjust ?LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Hispanic immigrants in Arkansas gained a new protector in an outspoken Catholic bishop in 2008, as immigration raids, an economy in recession and political scrutiny slowed one of the nation's fastest growing Latino populations. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor became head of the Diocese of Little Rock in April, which oversees all of Arkansas' 116,000 parishioners. Pope Benedict XVI's selection of the Oklahoma priest showed a new attention to the Hispanic community, which represents 55 percent of all parishioners in the state. Taylor, who previously signed a letter of protest against Oklahoma laws aimed at illegal immigration, issued his first pastoral letter in November to say people have a "God-given right to immigrate." "We cannot participate in an act of injustice," Taylor told reporters at the time. "People say, 'There's a law here,' but don't understand that law is an unjust law and people are prevented from exercising their God-given human rights."Taylor's statements contrast with others in state government including Gov. Mike Beebe, who routinely says "illegal means illegal" when it comes to immigration. However, Beebe came out against a failed ballot measure seeking to deny illegal immigrants some state benefits, saying much of it already was in state law. That wasn't the case. Both the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Central Arkansas in Conway allowed students to receive in-state tuition even if they couldn't provide Social Security numbers. After an Associated Press story questioned the governor's stance, the state's higher education chief immediately ordered all two- and four-year colleges and universities to verify potential students' immigration status. Immigration also remained a focus of law enforcement during the year. Arkansas State Police reached an agreement with federal agents to train troopers on how to examine and detect forged identity documents carried by suspected illegal immigrants. Police agencies in northwest Arkansas continued to enforce some federal immigration laws under a new program. The immigration arrest that brought the most attention to the region was that of Adriana Torres-Flores, arrested for selling pirated CDs. She spent four days in March without food or water in a Washington County Courthouse jail cell after being forgotten inside. Charges against Torres-Flores were eventually dropped. The Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, which condemned the incident, served other immigrants during the year. The diplomatic outpost now has 21 employees, who can handle about 300 requests a day for those seeking matricular consular identity cards, passports, legal help and birth certificates. The consulate also provided legal services to those arrested in several immigration raids conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the year. Agents arrested 24 men in a raid on a construction site near Little Rock National Airport in April, while another 18 were arrested earlier in the month at a Pilgrim's Pride plant in Batesville. In July, agents arrested 13 suspected illegal immigrants during a raid at a North Little Rock boat manufacturer. Still, poultry plants and construction sites in the state's northwest corner drew immigrants to Benton and Washington counties. U.S. Census Bureau statistics showed Arkansas with more than 150,000 Hispanics living within its borders, up from 1990, when estimates showed only 19,876 lived in the state. That population faced new struggles as feed prices and economic pressures led to poultry plants cutting back hours or simply shutting down. A collapse in the nation's mortgage market also stalled home sales, meaning fewer jobs putting up drywall or framing houses. Immigration slowed, but didn't stall, said Steve Striffler, an anthropology professor at the University of New Orleans. "Overall, I think it's still relatively immigrant-friendly, not so much in terms of the laws or the reception of folks, but I think the economy relative to other places is not that bad," Striffler told the AP in October. "Certainly, construction is just being hit everywhere in the U.S. right now, so we're not alone." That could change if Arkansas passes illegal immigration laws similar to those already in place in Oklahoma. Lawmakers have acknowledged the issue will come up in the 2009 legislative session, though no proposed bills have been filed. If they come, a debate thus far largely a (more...)

Resolved Question: Is this the price Palestinians have to pay?
So far 155 are dead and 200 are injured in the Israeli air raid on Gaza, and Israel says this is just the beginning. They won't stop till Hamas is wiped out. Is it fair that innocent Palestinians are being killed because Israel is so blood thirsty? My prayers are with the Palestinians, this is truly a horrible day for Gaza. @Tim S- How many Israeli casualties are there, because all i've heard this morning is the increasing number of Palestinian deaths? Are you guys heartless or something? Yes, they are innocent!! Just because they support Hamas doesn't mean they deserve to die! (more...)

Resolved Question: What is my WWII German Model 98 Mauser worth?
I Have a WWII German Mauser taken in combat in Bavaria, Germany, December 1944 during a raid on a barn. The machine gun squad leader's rifle jammed up and he picked up the rifle from a dead German, placed his American round in it, then aimed, shot, and killed a German soldier with it. I love the history behind it and be causeof that it is priceless to me. However I am curious as to the worth of this weapon. It was manufactured in 1943 as indicated with a "43" right above the factory code "ar". It is all original with the serial code "1525" except for the bolt which is marked "9827" and two "27" which one appears to be stamped over a "58". The bolt has 6 weird markings four appear to be something with a crown, one looks to be a lion or griffin, and one is worn out. On the rifle itself there are 4 small iron eagle stamps, what looks to be a lower case "a", but looks like a o with a line touching the top when in firing position, and a marking similar to a cross between a "R" and "K". As well, there are two "1"s stamped on the rifle alone, one near the ram rod and one near the "ar". The gun is in pretty good condition, but when my dad had his first child he had the bolt polished in order to tell if the action was closed or not in case a child was to pick it up. As I said I would never sell it and if it were stolen I'd hunt the bugler down myself. I am just curious as to what the price range would be for this weapon since I know that a Mauser takes a lot of consideration when pricing. Any help would be appreciated. (more...)
