Voting Question: is elway coming back to the broncos? read below.?
Is 1 more comeback in store for Elway? By PAT GRAHAM, AP Sports Writer Dec 31, 6:34 pm EST Buzz up! Print Related Video Scariest playoff teamsScariest playoff teams NFL surprises & busts Fantasy: 2009 draft picks More NFL Videos DENVER (AP)?The Denver Broncos are a team in need of a comeback. No surprise, then, that John Elway?s name keeps popping up. The Hall of Fame quarterback has been mentioned as a possible part of the management team that replaces Mike Shanahan, who was terminated as coach and executive vice president of football operations. No. 7 in the front office? Shanahan certainly believes Elway?s presence could be a good move for the Broncos. ?We know what John Elway means to Denver,? Shanahan said Wednesday at his farewell news conference. ?If I was a free agent coming in and John Elway was there, I?d sign for no money.? The idea isn?t so farfetched: Elway co-owns the Arena Football League?s Colorado Crush with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen. However, the ex-QB is lean on experience, his only front-office background coming from running the Crush, a team whose season is currently on hold as the league figures out its financial situation. ADVERTISEMENT On the field, there was nobody better?at least there?s very little debate about that in Denver. Shanahan?s arrival as coach helped Elway break through and finally win not one, but two Super Bowls. Elway was named MVP of the second one and strolled off into the sunset after that. He engineered 47 winning or game-saving drives in his career, and now, many in the Mile High City hope he?ll be called on for another kind of save. ?John Elway?s got lots of things to do,? Bowlen said. ?He?s got a business life of his own. He?s a very busy man ? I haven?t talked to John. I don?t have any idea if he has any interest. But I do know he?s very busy doing a lot of other things.? Elway did not immediately return calls or e-mails seeking comment. Bowlen wouldn?t speculate on who he may be courting to run the club, but did say his priority is to find a head coach first, a front-office face later. He doesn?t foresee giving the next coach the same type of command that he afforded Shanahan. Names such as Bill Cowher, Scott Pioli and a number of NFL assistants, including Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, have been mentioned. ?I hope that I can replace him with somebody that can be on the same level that Mike was,? Bowlen said, trying to hold back his emotions as he talked about his close relationship with Shanahan. ?That?s obviously going to be very hard to do. I think it was time for the organization to move on and for Mike to move on. I have no regrets in making that decision. ?We?re trying to get a great coach to come in here. This job in Denver is a very attractive one.? Whoever he picks won?t be as well-known in Denver as Elway, who has turned into an entrepreneur, running a string of car dealerships before selling the company. His name is on a pair of fancy steakhouses in the area, he?s a shareholder in the Colorado-based Professional Bull Riders, Inc., along with Wayne Gretzky, and teamed with a store to produce his own signature furniture line. He?s also shown an interest in politics and has wedding bells in his future after his engagement to Paige Green, a former Oakland Raiders cheerleader whom he met at a celebrity golf tournament three years ago. His time is pretty well occupied these days. The next Broncos coach will inherit a prolific offense that has a franchise quarterback in place in Jay Cutler, who set team records for passing yards, completions and pass attempts while earning his first Pro Bowl nod. Elway even said last month how impressed he was with the maturation of Cutler, who famously claimed that he had a stronger arm than the Bronco great. ?He can throw the ball well and move around,? Elway said. ?The sky?s the limit for Jay as long as he continues to work hard.? Bowlen had a conversation with Cutler on Wednesday morning, reassuring the third-year quarterback who has a strong bond with quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates. A bond like Shanahan and Elway had in their heyday. ?Jay understands enough about the business of football, the game of football, to know there?s going to be coaching changes,? Bowlen said. ?I didn?t sense that Jay had any negative feelings about it. I?m sure he?s very interested in who?s going to be the next head coach. Obviously, he?s `The Man? around here now.? Elway will always be the standard among signal callers in Denver. Brian Griese and Jake Plummer couldn?t win the ultimate prize living under the shadow of Elway, while Cutler has yet to even make it to the playoffs. Could one help the other? ?I think John would be perfect for any organization, especially this one if that?s what he wants to do,? Shanahan said. (more...)

Resolved Question: Renewing my German passport in the US?
I am in the process of renewing my German passport here in the United States and have a few question that maybe you guys can answer. As of November 1, 2007, it is no longer possible to apply for a passport by mail. When applying, your fingerprints will be taken. It is pretty clear to me that I have to go to a German consulate and get my fingerprints taken but here is my question. Is there a German consulate where I live in Denver, Colorado? The closest I can find is in Los Angeles, California, do they really expect me to fly/drive out to California for a couple of finger prints? There has to be a place close to me where they can just take my finger prints, this is ridiculous to me. Anyone know a way around this? Help would be appreciated and could save a lot of frustration. If not I will call the consulate myself tomorrow. (more...)

Resolved Question: im writing a story, please tell me what you think of it so far?
I woke up to the annoying screeching sound of my alarm clock in my ear. I leaned over to slam the clocks alarm off, and as I was doing so I knocked my glass of water over. The water spilled all over the wooden floor and the glass shattered. As I stepped out of bed, too tired to realize that I was stepping straight into the fragmentary pieces of glass scattered all over the floor. As soon as I was standing I felt the intense sharp pain of the glass piercing my foot and I immediately tried to leap off the broken glass and water strewn all over the floor and then fell flat on my face. ?Alice is everything okay up there?? my dad asked, I guess he heard my colossal fall, our house is old, everything is loud. ?I?m okay dad; I spilled my water, that?s all.? ?Don?t forget you have to go run today.? My dad reminded me, as if I were awake at 5:30 am for no apparent reason. ?I know dad, I remember.? I stumbled to my feet and walked through my room into my bathroom. I turned on the light and noticed my foot kind of sticking when I walked, when I looked down my foot had blood all over the bottom of it. I quickly turned around to see a trail of bloody foot prints leading from the crippled glass of water next to my bed. I then promptly got two towels out of the cabinet next to the shower, set one under my foot, slid to over to the crime scene, sorted the glass from the water, and soaked up the mess with my towel. I glanced up at the clock, it read 5:45, I only had 15 minutes to get ready. ?Dad?? I questioned, hoping to hear a response. ?Yes Alice?? he answered, good, now I don?t have to find him. ?Can you help clean up the broken glass in my room?? I heard his footsteps coming close to my room; he must have been on the computer down the hall. I heard the door creek open, and I glanced up to see my dad. ?Alice your foot is bleeding. Are you okay?? ?Yes dad, I?m fine. Can you pick up this glass? I need to get ready for cross country, it?s almost time to go.? ?Go get ready; I?ll take care of it.? My dad always cleaned up after me, I feel bad when I ask him to do things. I drifted back toward my bathroom, with the towel still under my foot. I grabbed a pair of shorts, a tee shirt, sports bra, and underwear then hauled them into the bathroom with me. I closed the door and stripped of my pajamas. I then redressed in the clothes I had brought in there and looked into the mirror. I had pale skin, long dark hair, blue eyes, and a few freckles. I was also very skinny; I guess I have a fast metabolism. I pulled my matted hair back into a messy bun, with no bother to brush it, its just going to get sweaty and tangled again anyway. I placed a yellow head band on my head to pull back my side bangs and the extra baby hairs that are always going in every direction. Then I peeled the bloody towel from my foot to see if the bleeding had stopped, it had. I hopped over to the bath tub, turned the water on, and rinsed the dried blood from the underlying side of my foot. Once I had dried my foot off I raced down the squeaky stairs with a pair of miss matched socks, threw the socks next to my running shoes, and grabbed a bagel. I looked at the clock, it read 5:55 I needed to leave that second if I wanted to get to the town square on time. I had put on my shoes, grabbed a bagel, and my purse then stepped outside, it was still dark and cool outside, it was too early to reach the boiling temperatures of Leadville, Colorado summers. I walked down the lanky path that led to my car. I have a used Volkswagen Tiguan. I stepped in and dug my key out of my bag, shoved it in the ignition, and started the car. I drove to the town square, where our cross country team meets. I made it just in time; we had just started to stretch. I sat down next to my best friend, Kaitlyn Smith. ?Alice, hey!? Kaitlyn said as I sat down, and began to stretch my legs. ?Hey!? I replied. We both leaned down in a pike stretch and started talking about Jared, the cute boy who ran with us. We gabbed about his hair, his calf muscles, his abs, and his eyes. ?Okay, I think everybody who is coming is here. Start running the usual route, and meet up here.? Our coach told us, as we began to jog toward the street corner the book store was on. Kaitlyn and I always start running together, but I?m faster, so I always end up creeping ahead of her. Once I had just gotten passed the music store, I turned back to see if anyone worth talking to was catching up to me so we could have a conversation. But as soon as I turned my head to face forward again I smacked into some boy. I immediately looked up to see an adorable boy, thin, creamy skinned, brown haired, hazel eyed boy. ?Are you okay? I?m so sorry, I really need to learn to watch where I?m going,? He said. ?Its okay, I wasn?t paying much attention to where I was going either.? I assured him while wobbling to my feet. I had run straight into him, my lip hit his tooth, I hope my breath smelled okay, I completely forgot to please tell me if anything is incorrect like the weather and stuff (more...)

On Tuesday, the Virginia Pilot reported that a phony Board of Elections flier was circulating the state "advising Republicans to vote on Nov. 4 and Democrats on Nov. 5." Voting, of course, is on the 4th only, creating fear among neutral observers and the Obama campaign that people were simply going to miss the opportunity to go to the polls. Earlier this month, meanwhile, an anonymous flier was circulating in predominantly African-American neighborhoods in Philadelphia telling voters they could be arrested at the polls if they show up to vote with outstanding arrest warrants or unpaid parking tickets. This is also untrue. Dirty tricks and phony fliers represent the dark underside of nearly every election. And certainly, when it comes to the current contest, these tactics started long ago. Last March, as Time Magazine noted, a letter was being sent around Colorado, warning that out-of-state students could not register if their parents claimed them as dependents in another state." One of the more common falsities making its way through email chains has warned voters in some states (updated below) that they will be turned away from the polls if they wore paraphernalia demonstrating their support for one particular candidate. Since these antics are becoming more and more common we encourage readers to send in tips or episodes they have witnessed to the Huffington Post. UPDATE: Several readers have pointed out that, in fact, several states do prohibit passive electioneering (buttons, t-shirts, etc.) in polling places. In Texas, for example, the law is as follows: [A] person may not wear a badge, insignia, emblem, or other similar communicative device relating to a candidate, measure, or political party appearing on the ballot, or to the conduct of the election, in the polling place or within 100 feet of any outside door through which a voter may enter the building in which the polling place is located. Voting Question: Why wasn't Ancient Sumeria credited with the contribution to the advancements of future civilizations?
I am 26 years old and I have been going to school for a long time and I was just wondering why I have never seen or heard discussions of the Sumerians in textbooks. I feel that they contributed alot to the human race and the only people who were credited was the Greeks, Romans, and the Babylonians. What gives, is this one of those deals where Museums throw the Artifacts in the basement because it doesnot fit mainstream beliefs as well as religous beliefs. I know that scientists and museums do this all of the time. Like the finding and recovery of a human foot print found directly next to a Dinosaur's foot print in either colorado or the Grand Canyon.
