Sorrento Lemon Panettone - N.Y. Times Favorite
Sorrento Lemon Panettone - N.Y. Times Favorite New York Times choice .... from Albertengo arrived too late for inclusion on last year's list, but I'm still smitten. It is soft and buttery, and it's candied lemon replaces the conventional raisins and candied citron. -- Marion Burros in the New York Times, Wed., 11/22/06 This hand-wrapped package tied with a shimmering gold ribbon contains one of the most delicious panettones we've ever tasted. Unlike the traditional panettones that are studded with raisins and candied citrus, this ethereal panettone is made with lightly candied Sorrento lemons, and I swear that you can almost smell the heavenly scent right through the box. Light and buttery, soft in texture, it will melt in your mouth, and the aroma and flavor of the Sorrento lemon will drive you to distraction. It is the perfect dessert for that holiday feast or open house. Serve it with some espresso or Vin Santo, and Buon Natale. Quantities are Limited this year.

Misc.:  Panettone of choice for NY Times food writer, Marian Burros, Perfect holiday gift -- you can't go wrong., Moist and delicious -- perfect for french toast., Or use it to make a bread pudding!

Chanterelle: The Story and Recipes of a Restaurant Classic
Chanterelle: The Story and Recipes of a Restaurant Classic Chef David Waltuck calls Chanterelle "a fantasy of a restaurant, dreamed up by a little, food-loving kid, that somehow, magically, came true." For over 28 years and from two different New York City locations, Chanterelle has broken the boundaries of French cooking, winning over such fans as Gael Greene, Richard Avedon, Keith Haring, and Malcolm Forbes along the way. Now, co-owner and co-founder Waltuck invites you into his bustling kitchen with a sumptuously illustrated cookbook chock-full of the recipes that have made Chanterelle a destination restaurant of international stature. From their signature Seafood Sausage and other fish and shellfish creations to salads and first courses, poultry and rabbit, meat and game, side dishes, and desserts, the book simply overflows with nouvelle cuisine classics. Bon Appetit, Y'All: Recipes and Stories from Three Generations of Southern Cooking
Bon Appetit, Y'All: Recipes and Stories from Three Generations of Southern Cooking Before she attended the prestigious French cooking school École de Cuisine La Varenne, Virginia Willis had been shelling butterbeans alongside her mother and grandmother in her Georgia family kitchen ever since she could stand on a stool. These divergent influences inform her passionate homage to the cooking of the South. From simple starters and slaws to generous entrées and desserts, Willis makes down-home cooking refined and haute cuisine friendly, with recipes like Vidalia Onion Soup with Bacon Flan, Pulled Pork Sandwiches with Mama's Barbecue Sauce, and Hot Vanilla Soufflés with Vanilla Ice Cream. Brimming with stories, tips, techniques, and gorgeous photographs, BON APPÉTIT, Y'ALL seamlessly blends Willis's Southern and French roots into a memorable and thoroughly modern cookbook.

The Arthur Avenue Cookbook: Recipes and Memories from the Real Little Italy
The Arthur Avenue Cookbook: Recipes and Memories from the Real Little Italy Arthur Avenue winds its way through the heart of the Bronx. Known to many as the "real Little Italy," the storied Arthur Avenue neighborhood has been home to a vibrant community of Italian-Americans for over a hundred years. Today, this area continues to thrive as visitors and residents stop to buy a fresh, crusty loaf of bread; to enjoy a meal at Mario's Restaurant; to dawdle for a while at Randazzo's raw bar on a warm summer afternoon; or to hear Mike's Deli owner Michele Greco belt out an aria from Rigoletto and spellbind his customers with tales of the Avenue's past.

Now, for the first time, the residents of Arthur Avenue invite you to experience the magic of their kitchens and share the flavors of their family tables. Passed down through generations, their delicious recipes are time-tested, tried, and true -- and ready for any kitchen. They include:

• Sicilian Baked Ziti • Yankee Stadium Big Boy (The Greco family's famous grinder that was rated one of the best in the city by the New York Times) • Osso Buco • Olive Ciabatta • Italian Ricotta Cheesecake • Cannoli • and more

The Arthur Avenue Cookbook also invites you to savor the memories of the neighborhood's most colorful residents, restaurateurs, and shop owners, and those of their families -- many of whom have lived in the neighborhood since it first came into being. Meet Mario Borgatti, the noodle maker who has been there for more than eighty-five years. Anthony Artuso, Sr., takes his bakery business so seriously that he went seventeen years without a vacation -- in part, to ensure that each bride and groom got the perfect wedding cake. And Mike Rella, president of the Arthur Avenue Retail Market, remembers learning English by working in a butcher shop, where he's now a partner with his uncle Peter Servedio.

This cookbook also provides a guide to the pastry shops, delis, restaurants, and other famous and lesser-known gems that line Arthur Avenue. Gorgeous photographs, extraordinary characters, and enticing dishes make The Arthur Avenue Cookbook an irresistible addition to any kitchen.

Voting Question: i found this recipe and i need a substitute?
Blue Ribbon Batter! It's no secret that HG LOVES breakfast (it IS the most important meal of the day -- that's NOT a rumor). But don't think for one second we're gonna be satisfied with some lame-o boring b-fast. Nuh-uh. We want pancakes. With blueberries! STAT! Check out our simple recipe... An oat-y take on p-cakes makes 'em hearty, filling, and delicious! Ingredients: 1/3 cup regular oats (not instant or steel cut) 1/4 cup blueberries 3 tbsp. egg whites 1 tbsp. nonfat milk 1 tbsp. fat-free cottage cheese 1/8 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tbsp. flour 1 no-calorie sweetener packet 2 tbsp. water pinch salt Directions: Combine all ingredients except for the blueberries and stir until well mixed. Gently fold in blueberries. In a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray, drop batter into pan to form 3 pancakes (or 1 big pancake). Once pancakes begin to look solid (about 3 minutes), gently flip (if possible, re-spritz the pan with nonstick spray as you flip 'em to prevent sticking). Cook for approximately 3 additional minutes, or until both sides are lightly browned and insides are cooked through. Now plate those suckers and enjoy. Serves 1. (Pssst...we like 'em drizzled with sugar-free maple syrup!) Serving Size: Entire recipe Calories: 201 Fat: 2g Sodium: 295mg Carbs: 32g Fiber: 4g Sugars: 6g Protein: 13g i don't have cottage cheese or any no calorie sweeteners like splenda in my house and i cant get them today. will the pancakes not taste as good if i skip the cottage cheese and use a teaspoon of brown sugar? are there any other substitutes for these things that will not add any calories? Resolved Question: How many garlic cloves is 1/4 cup?
I'm making a recipe that calls for 1/4 cup roasted whole garlic cloves, I'm not sure how to go about this, they are rather large, I bought a package of 5, and it is 8oz. 1/4 cup is 2oz, so should I just roast 1? I don't want it to be overly garlic-y... I know how I must sound, but I have always just bought the minced garlic in the jar...are cloves the individual peices inside the thing, or the whole thing?
