Teary Sockets
Teary Sockets is a mockumentary; an emo comedy where "Spinal Tap" meets "Napolean Dynamite".

A young filmmaker, Jackson (Joseph Guth), is hired to document the rise of a struggling Los Angeles emo band, the Teary Sockets. When all of their best-laid plans go awry, Jackson attempts to salvage the documentary and portray truthfully the events that have become distorted by circumstance and the media.

Jackson tells the story of the Teary Sockets and the band's leader, Bobby Tear (Jared Michaels), as they embark on their "nationwide tour" to raise awareness of "bovine abuse". Bobby is also the founder of an animal rights organization called the PPM, or "People for the Protection of Mammals". The PPM is dedicated to the prevention of bovine abuse, and to the provision of a second income for Bobby.

Two dates into their tour, Bobby's mother cuts off her funding to the band, and Bobby is forced to travel to Mississippi to find his estranged and eccentric but wealthy father. Since Bobby is deep in debt to Jackson for the film project the audience is ultimately viewing, Jackson must tag along to ensure that he is paid. The clash of cultures is inevitable, but no one expects the trip to result in national headlines.

Forced to prove once and for all his altruistic dedication to the PPM, Bobby and his band mates engage in an act of civil disobedience that finally thrusts the Teary Sockets into the national spotlight.

Teary Sockets is shot and edited to resemble a documentary and relies heavily on improvisational scenes merged with staged scenes to drive the narrative. From locations along the California-Mexico border to the sidewalks of Venice Beach to the Mississippi countryside, the overriding goal was to establish a documentary look. Additional lighting, other than natural light, was used sparingly along with a mix of hand-held and support based camerawork. Close proximity to the action adds an intimate feel to the film.

The first feature length film to explore the emo subculture, Teary Sockets is the directorial debut of Jackson Anderson, and the first feature film from Cloud Chamber Productions LLC. For more information on the film, its cast and its creators, visit www.tearysockets.com.

America Needs a Buddhist President
In this bold poetic vision of America under the leadership of a Buddhist president, Brett Bevell’s prophetic voice and Eben Dodd’s simple but elegant line drawings proclaim a radical alternative American dream in the tradition of Buddhism-inspired writers Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac.

Resolved Question: Forgiveness, a friendly get to know each others way?
Before i begin, i wish to tell you i will not include christinaity in this, and on my last thread i did and it was from the bible, and not to offend anyone. This is not a rant but a friendly discussion. I have not mentioned nor ranted on any religion, and am only encouraging to know other peoples beliefs. -Muslims belief on forgiveness- Before i start, i'd like to say my belief in this. As a muslim i believe i bear the burden for my own sins, and i need to be carefull what i do, since i'l pay for it. But many times in the Holy Quran, and through his messengers has God said his mercy is so much, and not to dispair and ask from his mercy for he is most mercifull. He loves us more than anyone. However love and ignoring are two things. If a child does wrong the parent will ground the child and tell him his actions has consequence. If a mother loves her child, she won't overlook the wrong she does, but will tell the child her actions have consequences. Although her mercy for her child will be forever. When the day of rekoning arrives, we muslims believe every soul shall taste what it has done. Good deeds and Bad. We do the bad deeds, so it is only logical that we must pay for what we do. However, what is your beliefs in this which is why i opend this question. What are your beliefs on forgiveness? Please do not insult me like before, or say Jesus peace be upon him said the exact things because it will get onto another topic and i'l get reported for 'ranting' the new word for debating. Also, if you wish to know my salvation lies on God's mercy. For as a human i sin, and when i sin god's mercy will always be open if i regret and repent and do not repeat, feeling and sincerity plays a big part. "O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me, I have forgiven you for what you have done and I do not mind. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and then you would seek My forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins that are close to filling the earth and then you would meet Me without ascribing any partners with Me, I would certainly bring to you forgiveness close to filling it." Say: O My servants who have transgressed against their own souls, despair not of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surah az-Zumar 39:53) So what do you believe in forgiveness? 060.004 YUSUFALI: There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "We are clear of you and of whatever ye worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in Allah and Him alone": __ THAT is for those who know God is one but continue to reject it. HOWEVER, if you associate people with God worship idols, then come to know of ALLAH, his mercy will always be open for you. is it logical that God sends a message but exempts some people before they have got the message? It is for those who KNOWINGLY get the message but keep rejecting. That is why i know but refer to those more knowledgeable in islam. (more...)

Voting Question: Would you read this if I finished it?
I had this idea, so I'll write a paragraph or two here to find out if it'd be any good. It's about a family who goes on a wooden raft in the summer of '09 and get stranded out in the country. This isn't the beginning. It was a beautiful evening, the sunset had been great, and now we sat on the raft eating our fish. They tasted good, Mom had made them. It took a while for me to get them standing in knee-deep water with a spear stabbing into the dirt, feeling like an idiot. We had anchored due to us being unable to see at night, and we were about 20 miles away from Sulphur. We had about 30 miles left on our trip. The thing I had feared was the fact that no towns were nearby on our route. The anchor line worried me, when we bought it I was nervous, it was only a cheap nylon rope that had a weight limit of about 250 lbs. I looked at the scow, then up at the plywood cabin's door. The eHow article "How to Survive a Shipwreck" was posted up on the door. Next to it was a little poster showing how to get water using washed up materials, since the stream water could be contaminated, how to make a shelter, and how to make a spear. I had used that one before we even built the raft. I had studied over those papers for a long time and even read some other things on the topic, so I was ready incase anything happened. I sat back and looked up at the stars. They were beautiful, there wasn't even a cloud in the sky. I dozed off in the gentle breeze. I was awakened by a loud snap. I was confused, half asleep. I heard a crunch and then part of the raft was lower than the other. At that moment, I fully woke up. We were partly sunk. The cabin caved in and the scow was thrown overboard. Pieces of the raft just fell apart because it was plywood and only the outside was painted, so it was just delaminating and getting weak. I panicked. I couldn't swim. The piece of raft I was standing on collapsed. I was in the water. I flopped around and thrashed my arms, thinking I was going to die. I noticed that I wasn't going under. I was actually swimming! It was dark, but I saw land not far away. I got over to it, and washed up on shore. My cap fell off next to me and the camping soap and camping toilet paper in my pocket hurt my leg, but was so tired I couldn't get up. I was dizzy, and everything spun around. It all faded and went black. Mike, I said this IS NOT the beginning. (more...)

Resolved Question: What is the best way to write a poetic duet?
This was written by myself and Sin. We decided to see if we could communicate in metered rhyme and what you see here is the results of a couple of days emails, writing 2 tetrameter stanzas per email. (D) precedes my writing, (S) precedes the writing of Sin. It was fun, and proves that poets don't have to compete. I find I like this form very much, and next time will try with a different format. Maybe sonnets. Dondi and Sin's Duet (D) To talk to you in rhyme this way, And listen to the words you say. Could give us fun and happy times, While we still talk in metered rhymes. If you would like to try a few, Then add to this a verse or two. Then send it back from whence it came, And then for you I'll do the same. (S) I'd like to give this game a try, If you can rhyme then so can I. And so I'll send my lines to you, To see what next your pen will do. I see the metered count is eight, At least for now at any rate. Do you suppose that count will change? (Metered rhyme has quites a range.) (D) A subject now we need to find, Duet to please poetic mind. A song that both of us may sing, It could become a wondrous thing. Your beauty I could here expound, With words that do not make a sound. Until I speak them all aloud, To lift your spirits to a cloud. (S) Yet beauty is as beauty does, And once it's gone, it never was. So let's find something deeper friend, As beauty will most surely end. And how could I duet with you, In beauty mine (however true). And still claim modesty as mine? So topic still we must define. (D) Your words are heeded as I write, Alas, no topic is in sight. What will I write for you to read? Which ego should I try to feed. With happy words or words of dark, Or words of walking in the park. This thing will grow huge by and by, And we won't have to even try. (S) I fear this prophesy is true, A garden grown by me and you. With blooms of words to our delight, That speak of things grown by the light. For poetry is such a flower, Words that give our thoughts such power. That even on this blank white page, One can smell the Rose and Sage. (D) Our poem written as duet, May be the best that's written yet. I do not know if it's been done, This may well be the only one. We wrote this with eight beats per line, It fits with boogie music fine. I'll play my guitar, you can sing, We'll cut a record with this thing. (S) And when this record hits the air, Will people dance without a care? And tap their toes to metered word, When all is written yet unheard? And would you save a dance for me, That we may swing in victory? For surely this is quite a feat, To rhyme duet in 8 count beat! (D) If they don't dance, we surely will, For joy and mirth our hearts to fill. We'll do a jitterbug and jive, And folks will know we are alive. We'll put a smile on ev'ry face, They will try hard to keep the pace. Our song and dance will wow them all, They'll think we're at the 'Strutter's Ball'. (S) With great delight I take your hand, And hear you say "Strike up the band." As we head out upon the floor, To dance to rythym four plus four. When other poets see us swirl, They'll want to grab a guy or girl. To try and match our dancing form, And soon it will be quite the norm. (D) While we are in this dancing mode, Let's take our show out on the road. Along the way we'll take a chance, And hope the world will learn to dance. This little rhyme is growing large, But it's still smaller than a barge. It is quite fun to talk like this, And normal speach I do not miss. (S) Ok my friend I do agree, Lets hit the road, the world to see. I too find that I do enjoy, This word duet 'tween girl and boy. You take the lead I'll follow you, My pen and yours have written true. Step out and show the world just how, A curtsey meets a manly bow. (D) I wonder if we should now post, This thing of ours to Y A host. I think this might be just the time, To sing duet in metered rhyme. And prove to all it can be done, Wrote by us two, but neither one. So as we write, our souls unite, And warms us as the morning's light. (S) Your right, I think, my worthy friend, What you have started I will end. Post away, that Yahoots might read, And from example plant a seed. With wink of eye and sassy smile, I bid adieu for just a while. And thank you kindly for the chance, To boogie to this eight beat dance. Yes, it was fun. From beginning to end we had no other dialog than the two stanzas per email.. It was for fun, because Sin had mad the comment that we might be able to communicate with just rhyme, on one of my poetic answers to her question. I decided to try, and this was the result. My co-author is a very talented lady who send back as good or better than she received. I applaud her vigorously. (more...)

Resolved Question: Which is or was a "scare tactic" and which is or was real threat?
Remember when Condoleeza Rice said; "The problem here is that there will always be some uncertainty about how quickly Saddam can acquire nuclear weapons. But we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud." Was that a scare tactic or a real threat? Anthropogenic climate change is another topic; do you think this is a scare tactic or a real threat? (more...)

Resolved Question: so do we go to heaven?
for most of my life, i thought that we spend eternity in heaven (up in the clouds). I have been reading Revelation and i have noticed that it doesn't say that we spend eternity up there but rather we will reign with God in the new earth and the new Jerusalem will descend down. I feel like it is a hard topic to talk about with other christians because i don't want to upset them or offend them because they may not read it the same way or that they have never read it at all. would you deny another believer over this? have you ever let doctrine get in the way of a friendship. I do value non-christian opinions, however, please restrict comments to christian believers only, thank you. (more...)

Resolved Question: The Quran And Science.?
I find the Quran to be very very interesting. It details some facts written 1,400 years ago that go pretty well with the science of today. All i am saying is its interesting so dont go all crazy on me, anyways here are a few scientific topics and quotes. 7 LAYERS OF THE EARTH 3- He created the seven heavens (skies) in layers. You do not see any imperfection in the creation by the Gracious. Turn your eyes again. Do you see any flaw? 67-,3 THE EXPANDING UNIVERSE 47- With power did We construct heaven. Verily, We are expanding it. 51-47 PERFECT ORBITS 33- It is He who created the night and the day, and the sun, and the moon; each of them floating in an orbit. 21-33 BARRIER BETWEEN SEAS/OCEANS 19- He has let free the two seas meeting together. 20- Between them there is a barrier which they do not transgress. 55-,19-20 DARKNESS OF THE EXTREMELY DEEP SEA 40-... or is like the darkness in a deep sea. It is covered by waves, above which are waves, above which clouds. Darkness, one above another. If a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it. For any to whom God gives not light, there is no light. 24- 40 THE UNIVERSE IN GASEOUS STATE 11- Then He turned to the heavens, and it was in a gaseous state. And said to it, and the earth; ?Come into existence, willingly or unwillingly.? They said, ?We come willingly.? 41-11 There's much more and i find it interesting. (more...)

Resolved Question: Critique my essay............?
we could write on 3 different topics: Death, Life, OR Freedom. I CHOSE LIFE. here's how it goes. L.I.F.E. Life. Is interesting. Now I'm not here to write a philosophical piece designed to make you think about it once it's done. Frankly, I don't have the ability, or the capability. I'll get straight to the point instead of taking you, the reader, on a ride of tautological crap. Life is littered with potholes and bumps. The point is, knowing not only how to avoid them, but learning from the ones you trip over. Essentially, learning from your mistakes. One thing you have to remember all along this oh so magnificent journey called life, is that even 'heroes have the right to bleed' (yeah, I'm quoting from a song. Go ahead. Sue me.). No matter how grand you get, you are human. At the end of the day, unfortunately that's all you'll be; a foolish, feeble mortal. Yet, here's the beauty: You are human. You can reach out. Touch someone else. Make their lives just that much more worth living. We don't wear silly red sheets, and fly with clouds between our knees. Our capacity to reach out to others. Appeal to their humanity, is what makes us real heroes. Sometimes, it's important that we never forget certain 'things'. The most important things we take for granted. Things which without realising it, we tarnish. And when we lose those things, they're most likely gone. Forever. And that, is the worst feeling in the world. When realisation dawns on you; the moment you realise that you've let something go. That something you were looking for was right in front of you and you let it go. My advice? Never let it go. You will forever rue the day that you did. And why? Simply because you realise. That without that 'thing', you don't want to go on. That you've given up a part of yourself. Your soul? Perhaps. You realise that your life is empty. Something is missing and that, my friends, will torment you till kingdom come. Never betray the part of you which holds onto something dear. Never betray that something dear. Question is, what's left when you do? How do you pick up the pieces? My answer. Find comfort in pain. We all wish that we could have changed decisions. This regret burns within us like a ravenous fire. Yet, how you face this. How you come to terms with what you've done and the regret; whether you've run, or you've stood to withstand the tide, is what determines who you are. What you are. This will be your meaning. I am a coward. I let my meaning be determined by powers outside of my control and don't take charge of what I do or I'm meant to do. Yet, I hope you are wiser. I envision that now, realising all this and acting upon it, you will have the chance to choose between Heaven and Hell. Lastly, and I cannot re-iterate this enough. Hold on to whatever is dear to you. Look introspectively and figure out what is dear to you. And when you do that, remember, that no matter what, never, ever let it go. Hold onto it as if your life depended on it because at the end of the day, it does. Hold onto it, so that you can choose where you're going to go or want to be. Hold onto it, to withstand the tide and face the darkness, because, at the end of the day, it will be the only thing that will. What do u think? Constructive criticsm welcome Please & Thank You (more...)
