Bluegrass & White Snow: A Mountain Christmas
O Santa, where art thou? Patty Loveless's big voice almost upstages such stately hymns here as "Away in a Manager" and "Silent Night." That said, this is one of 2002's most satisfying Christmas albums regardless of genre. Rich with harmony vocals and deft acoustic instrumentation, the CD shines bright with unexpected arrangements ("Little Drummer Boy" sounds like an old-time country tune transplanted to Ireland), while words cannot describe the simply beautiful sounds of "Carol of the Bells" and "Silver Bells," rendered with fiddles, Dobro, strumming guitars, and spirited singing. Spread the joy and buy a couple extra for the in-laws and neighbors. --Martin Keller

Cold Mountain
Director Anthony Minghella's take on Charles Frazier's bestselling novel is powered by wistful romanticism and a dramatic structure that's been compared to Homer's Odyssey. That latter creative tack parallels the Coens' O Brother, Where Art Thou in crucial ways, and is further enhanced by another T-Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack of Appalachian-inflected folk traditionals, sympathetic originals by diverse songwriters (Elvis Costello and Sting), and a core of gritty performances (the White Stripe's Jack White and Alison Krauss) that rise above mere star appeal. White shows his traditional blues jones is no mere affectation on "Wayfaring Stranger" and a cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Sittin' On Top of the World," then makes a rewarding turn into the wistfully romantic with his original "Never Far Away." Krauss gives a haunting performance of Costello's "The Scarlet Tide," but doesn't fare as well with Sting's plaintive, Celtic-tinged "You Will Be My True Love." The soundtrack's evocative sense of time and place is further underscored by traditionals performed by a slate of other bluegrass/country-folk heavyweights and a powerful pair of gospelized, almost ethereal performances by the Sacred Harp Singers at Liberty Church. A few of Gabriel Yared's gentle orchestral cues (crucial to the film's characters and dramatic continuity) are essentially tacked on as the coda to the remaining collection of earthy Americana. Dark, dusty, and ever bittersweet, Burnett's musical archaeology here is something considerably more than merely "O Brother Redux." --Jerry McCulley

Lost Horizon (Original Restored Version)
James Hilton's novel Lost Horizon proposes a perfect hidden community within the uncharted Himalayas, a land where peace reigns and the inhabitants live for hundreds of years. So indelible is this mythical land that its name has entered the culture: Shangri-La. Director Frank Capra, riding high during his mid-'30s hot streak, spared no expense in creating Hilton's paradise onscreen, taxing the coffers of Columbia Pictures and the patience of mogul Harry Cohn. The results, however, are magical: shimmering, seductive, and maybe a bit foolish, truly the creation of an idealist (understandably, the spectacular art direction won an Oscar). And Capra's hero is an idealist, too. Ronald Colman, at his most marvelously elocutionary, plays a wise diplomat whose plane crashes in the snows of Tibet. He and the other survivors are guided to Shangri-La, where they wrestle with the invitation to stay. The young Jane Wyatt plays Colman's love interest, but leaving a more lasting impression are H.B. Warner, as the benevolent Chang, and Sam Jaffe, in great old-age makeup, as the wizened High Lama. This version has been restored as closely as possible to Capra's original cut; the film had circulated for many years in a trimmed form. Some of the outdoor snow scenes from LOST HORIZON were filmed on Mt. Hood in Oregon around the time when Timberline Lodge was being constructed (also used in part for filming of The Shining) .

Sugar Cane Train
To get a real feel for railroading, Hawaiian style, ride the Lahaina-Kaanapali and Pacific Railroad. The LK&P is an authentic reconstruction of the trains that once trundled through the sugar cane fields of Maui. The LK&P still runs through sugar cane fields but now also through golf courses and resorts. The railroad's little narrow gauge steam engines introduce thousands to Hawaiian railroad history each year. Passengers ride in replicas of the Kalakaua coaches that once ran on the Hawaiian Railroad in the 1880s. Even the steel rails of the LK&P are historic, having been removed from the Kahului Railroad when it was abandoned on Maui in 1966. You can start your trip in the historic town of Lahaina on Maui's west coast. Lahaina's economy was introduced to sugar cane in 1850 and by the 1880s railroads began to help move the cane out of the fields. Beneath tropical skies in the shadow of the West Maui Mountains, your trip will take you over the 400 foot Hahakea! trestle and on to Kaanapali and Puukolii. Bougainvillea line the track on portions of your journey. You'll also see the railroad being constructed and attend its birthing party. Watch very rare footage of its steam locomotives being restored and tested on the historic East Broad Top Railroad in Pennsylvania.

Open Question: What do these scriptures have in common and what does it show?
Exodus 3
1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight?why the bush does not burn up."
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!"
And Moses said, "Here I am."
5 "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." 6 Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
Matthew 17
1After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters?one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"
6When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." 8When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
Revelation 1
12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man,"[b]dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
17When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Open Question: Weird dream involving some sort of tribal dude, please provide elaboration;?
This was one of those fading dreams, one of the ones that comes suddenly without warning.
Essentially, in my dream i "opened my eyes" and saw in front of me a man wearing a tribal head-dress (the colour of grass) and a mask - with red eyebrows, mouth, nose and markings upon the cheeks and forehead upon a white basically.
The eyes were yellow, though these were painted rather than the man's actual eyes.
He wore nothing save one of those aboriginal hunting garments (essentially a skirt made of dried long grass) and a bone necklace around his neck.
As soon as i became aware of him, his head turned this way and that, and then he rose his arms and i lapsed into what passes for unconsciousness in dreams.
The second part of the dream involved watching someone run towards a mountain and taking a swipe into the ground, which smashed the closest part of the mountain (which was a fairly small mountain, truth be told) into the air.
I believe this dream may have something to do with people's perceptions of me, as i distinctly remember that the person whom did the smashing was a personification of sorts - someone who emphasized a particular value in the eyes of myself and the eyes of others, if you get my meaning (a fictional character, essentially).
So, if you saw some sort of weird shamanistic tribal dude in your dreams, what would you think?
That should be "upon a white base-colour" but for some reason that was deleted...
Yep. thought you might say something like that.

Resolved Question: 10 gallon fish tank.. COLDWATER fish!?!?
Well I have a 10 gallon fish tank. Right now I have a feeding goldfish (sold to be fed to another larger fish). He preety small, and a few of his fins are rip (like that when we got him).
We're hoping we would be able to get a few more fish in our tank. What do you think of 3 white cloud mountain minnows, and maybe a small bottom feeder?? Would this be to crowed for my tank?? We also have another fish tank that we could put the goldfish in, buh he was getting picked on by the other "big fellas".
If you have any suggustings instead of the white cloud mountain minnows, please tell me. Thanks.
My mom said that when she had her goldfish they grew according to the fish tank size.. Is this true??
