Land of the Red Rocks: Utah, Arizona, and Colorado
Splendidly colored and fantastically shaped, the red rocks of the American Southwest dominate this 51-minute tape as they do the Four Corners area. Narrator Roy Conrad begins at the beginning, with the Earth's formation, and then lands viewers in modern-day Sedona, Arizona, to start the tour, aided by a series of unidentified tourists, park rangers, and apparent experts. Each area is identified by map and then visited by the camera, with considerable time spent at the enormous artificial Lake Powell, created by the building of the Glen Canyon Dam. Next stop is Utah's Canyonlands, and Zion and Bryce National Parks, the latter known for its "hoodoos"--humanlike figures of pink rock. In a remote pocket on the floor of the Grand Canyon, viewers meet a Native American tribe who operate a lodge and campground. In contrast, Colorado's Mesa Verde offers stunning remains of the cliffside apartments that supported more than 400 Anasazi people before they mysteriously vanished. Viewers get a look at some of the 15,000 petroglyphs decorating rocks within the Albuquerque city limits, and then it's back to Sedona for spiritual quests. It's a whirlwind tour that will leave armchair travelers wanting to see more. --Kimberly Heinrichs

The Runner: A True Account of the Amazing Lies and Fantastical Adventures of the Ivy League Impostor James Hogue
A classic american story of a homeless drifter who tries to start a new life by applying to Princeton University, based on the acclaimed New Yorker article.
Based on one of the most talked-about New Yorker articles from the past decadesoon to be a major motion picture.
On the morning of March 30, 1988, a police detective named Matt Jacobson arrived at a storage facility in St. George, Utah, with a warrant to search for stolen bicycles. Among the stolen goods and dusty athletic trophies in Locker 100, Jacobson also found some recent correspondence showing that the thief, James Hogue, had been dreaming of a new and better life as a person named Alexi Santanaa self-educated Nevada cowboy who could run a mile in just over four minutes and had applied for admission to some of America's finest universities, including Stanford, Princeton, and Brown.
Thus began a classic American narrative of self-invention that falls somewhere between The Great Gatsby and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Hogue's storyhow he fooled the Princeton University admissions department, got straight A's, made the Princeton track team, dated a millionaire's daughter, and was accepted into the elite Ivy Club before his deception was finally exposedturns out to be both an intensely affecting profile of a dreamer and the limits of his dream, and a striking indictment of the Ivy League "meritocracy" to which Hogue wanted so badly to belong.
Taking off from his widely read New Yorker article, David Samuels adds substantial new reporting, telling the sad story of Hogue's itinerant life after he was expelled from Princeton and providing fascinating new insights into the Ivy League's most famous impostor.

Resolved Question: Why should English NOT be adopted as the official language of the US?
I am writing a 6page paper where I discuss both sides.
Currently, I have an amazing section for why we should have English as our official language, but I fall short in explaining why we should not.
I was thinking of discussing reasons such as
- Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and California were part of Mexico and therefore, we should not REQUIRE them to speak English
- it goes against what our nation stands for-- freedom and the such
but neither of these are good arguments!
Please help!!

Voting Question: I need serious crush advice. ?
So I live in a tiny town in Colorado and I am 14. Now I grew some very strong relationships with friends since my time living here. So here we go. I am Mormon and we have very strong dating rules that stand pretty strong in my family. We are not supposed to date until we are 16 and even then we are not supposed to get very serious into it. Well there are two particular guys that are driving me insane. So here. At a youth conference this year I met two guys. Matt, who ended up being my neighbor right across the street from me who is in my ward. Now he is not a huge Mormon at all. He dropped the whole 16 thing out the window when he turned 15. Now the other guy I met and danced with is Sam. He is amazing, cute, funny and understanding. He is not a good Mormon either. Well both of them became my good friends. After a few months, Matt decided he was mad at me for spreading rumors about him. I would never do that and it continued on with mean things getting spread about me from him and evil looks from him family. Until about a week ago. He messaged me and said that he was sorry for all that had happened. And so I decided I forgave him, but I was sure if I wanted to be friends with someone who couldn't trust me. Well one day we drops this bomb on me saying that he loves me and he wants me and he will wait forever for me. And I was speechless. The same day Sam called me and we were talking about how at the last church dance we both were waiting for each other to ask the other to dance. We both chickened out. Well he calls me and asks me this "out of the blue" question. "What would you do if I kissed you?" well I explained that I wouldnt know what to do and so we finished talking and stuff. Well last night Matt drops another bomb. And I know this is all genuine from him. But he also asked what I would do if he kissed me. I explained the same thing that I had to Sam and told him that I didnt want to be kissed until I was 16 and could date and he said he would kiss me anyways. Well he told me to meet him in the CHAPEL (for all you non-mormons that is the place that we meet for a kind of meeting) so we can be alone so he can kiss me. I dont want to though! I dont! And Sam also says he likes me alot. Well the thing is I have these two guys. I dont know who to pick, I dont know if I should pick either of them. And another thing I am moving in 2 weeks. Matt says he will drive when he gets his license to where I am moving just to visit me. This guy says he has been obsessed with me since he met me. And I dont know what to do. I am confused. What is a good Mormon girl supposed to do in a situation like this????? :O Help please. Especially if you are Mormon. But if your not you can still help. Choose one or the other or dump the both like hot potatoes and move on. I have a group of friends who say Sam and a few that say Matt and a few that say NEITHER. They arent good Mormons but that doesnt seem to bug me at all. And Sam is Bi-sexual or so he says, and Matt just cant make up his mind...I dont know if I can trust either of them. So help!

Voting Question: do you agree with me? take a look i think you will be suprised?
Words of a sad man, philosolophers how can one possibly define that? I will sum it up in one sentence talkers. To many, these people have been revered as the great thinkers of our time. There have been classes revolving around words these ?great thinkers? of our time have said. How much do we really know about these men? If they were soo right then why is it that Michael Jackson can?t be with a 10 year old boy? Why are we so set in this archaic vision of how the world should be run? Why do we as people sit and idealize the past? I know from where I?m standing that these talkers are not of my time. My time is full of corrupt men in an office that dictates war, finances, peace, resolve, or whatever bullshit they can shill at the time. These are the same men that probably could quote one of these talkers on the spot if presented the opportunity. They have become the great thinkers of my time. They will be revered in history books that my great, great grandchildren read. The thought of this makes me ill. If you don?t think so grab your history book. This institution that we as a collective have bought into is appalling. Our founding fathers had it right the first time. But the greed of man has taken its toll on the American constitution. Which has been revised and basicly rewritten? To form loop holes for backstabbing men with a sense of power that has been brought on by money that I might add is on loan to the United States government. We bought bullshit. A politician who went to Harvard and learned to talk fancy, and tell a story of how his father was a working class citizen, and how he struggled to get to where he is today. Your struggle was to get backing from some company that needs a very powerful man to help sway the people into paying outrageous prices for gas, or supporting a war that sends into recession or potentially a depression. While the average hard working American struggles the elected officials fly around on private jets and stay in a five diamond hotel because their hard work of kissing someone?s ass really takes a toll. They have all lied to you. Finding an honest politician is like finding a pink blueberry. They look for catch phrases like ?change?. What is that? Are you going to get rid of the Federal Reserve? are you going to take that seat in office and arrest these truly corrupt men that have lied to mass amounts of American people in order to receive a check that is paid for on money that is on loan? What the fuck are you actually going to do. I?ll tell you what?s going to transpire more talk from Washington. More bull shit shilling, it doesn?t matter who we put in office we are too far gone. It saddens me to look at what this country has become. Now back to my opening statement talkers. They go down in history with a filter. Ask your parent about a relative that you honestly know little about and see what comes up, will it be positive like this man freed slaves, or negative like this man was at the epicenter of Watergate. Only broad strokes are what we get. I have seen this happen twice in my life. A man stands on a podium in front of mass amounts of American people around the United States and lies. Then when all is forgotten he is forgiven for his wrong doings and put on a pedestal for what he accomplished while in office. Where is the connection you ask? They talk and get mass amounts of people to believe in what they say. Sometimes they say outstanding refreshing things that shock and amaze, but what action was taken on their part? What did the do aside from write or say things that sounded sooo smart and enticing? They followed lust. Be it for power or the love of a handsome young man that they admired from afar. I am sick of getting spoon fed lies from corrupt men. And I attach that to philosophers as well because in my time sleeping with a teenage boy while in adulthood is against the law and very immoral in my eyes and I think a lot of people would concede my point. If we don?t learn from the history that we have seen with our own eyes then we are bound to repeat it. My eyes are open and my mind learning. Give it some thought a talker going in a different direction. Wesley Kade Harris 2:21 am December 21, 2008 Silt, Colorado

Resolved Question: What do you think about this personal statement?
I'm applying to PA school at Red Rocks Community College in Denver, here is my personal statement. Any comments would be appreciated.
In mathematics, the shortest distance between two points may be a straight line, but the route that has led me to apply to the Physician Assistant Program at Red Rocks Community College has been neither short nor straight. Instead, it has been a long, winding path.
While majoring in mathematics at Western State College, I applied for an internship at State University of New York at Buffalo for students who wanted to learn about biomedical research. The goal of the program was to integrate the sciences and draw upon other disciplines. I applied to the program hoping I would find a way to incorporate my passion for both biology and math into a future career. Upon acceptance to the program, I worked with Dr. Armando Arroyo who was an Ob/Gyn researching the GnRH neuron.
While the research aspect of the program was amazing, what I found most thrilling was the clinical aspect of Dr. Arroyo?s career. On several occasions, he allowed me to accompany him during his clinical rounds. I completed the internship in awe of what doctors do on a daily basis and the difference they make in the world.
I returned to Colorado with a passion for health care and entered a CNA training program that allowed me to gain valuable experience while completing my bachelor?s degree. I was nervous when I first entered the program, wondering if I would be able to handle all of the personal care duties that are required of a CNA. However, when I actually started working, I found I enjoyed this type of work because it allows me to give of myself to my patients.
As I gained experience working as a CNA, I decided to further my education by taking an EMT-B course. I find emergency medicine to be incredibly rewarding and thrive on the challenges it presents. Now when we have a code blue on the floor, I want to be a part of it and help in any way possible. I love the quick thinking and teamwork required and the knowledge that the critical decisions we make can determine the difference between life and death. I am eager to expand on my medical training so I can increase my knowledge and take on even greater levels of responsibility in patient care.
My winding path has led me to the Physician Assistant Program at RRCC, where I know I will succeed in learning to provide a broad range of health care services. The PA program fits very well with what I have accomplished and what I want to achieve out of life. I know I will be a compassionate, caring, and competent physician assistant and that I will continue to make a difference in people?s lives. After graduation from the Physician Assistant Program, I plan to return to the rural, small town communities I grew up in?where PAs are often the primary care providers?so I can help those who helped me growing up.

I am about 10 weeks pregnant and unable to help with this, so I was waiting with my husband to see how they wanted it loaded. Suddenly, my husband got an intense headache, couldn't see, couldn't walk (especially with his left side), could hardly speak, and fell to his knees. Our friend helped my husband (we'll call my hubby "B") to the car and we immediately drove to the nearest hospital. Upon arrival (B being carried in by our friend) B was asked if he was on any drugs. I understand that this is common practice, but they kept accusing him of doing drugs repeatedly. Soon after, B gets sick (and me with morning sickness began to get sick myself.) The nurse yells at me telling me I need to go sit in the waiting room because she doesn't need two sick people there. I told her I was pregnant and ignored her as I walked into the room. The doctor then came in the room, asked a couple of questions, and then with no tests or anything, the doctor told him it was just a migraine and doped him up with a TON of drugs, such as a muscle relaxant, a migraine medication, an anti-histamine, a pain killer, and several others. We left and I was able to get him home and to bed as quickly as I could. The next day, Sunday, we stayed home and just tried to relax. However, B was still having trouble walking and using his left side. We have no medical education and thought that maybe this could be what was left over from all the drugs he was given. So, we ignored it for the time being. The next day, B was unsure if he could drive, so he had me take him to work. Since this was a fair ways away, I just waited around town for him. About an hour or two after he got to work, I get a call from B telling me that something isn't right and that he needed to go to the hospital. Thankfully, this was a different hospital. The second he got into the ER, he was told it sounded like a neurological problem and ordered a cat scan immediately. Sure enough, B had had a stroke that weekend. We spent three days and two nights in the hospital. Everyone was amazing at the second hospital and treated both me and my husband with every kind of care that should be shown by the hospital. As well, while we were there, we were given literature strokes, and B was showing every single sign of having a stroke when he walked into the first hospital. Now B is still having trouble with his fine motor skills in his left hand and when he is tired, he can hardly walk on his left leg.
Do we have any grounds to sue the first hospital or their doctor? Not only do we have the proof they misdiagnosed the stroke, but we also have witnesses of our friends who heard them yell at me and kept accusing my husband of doing drugs. This whole thing has gotten me stressed out beyond compare and I am worried about the effect of this stress on our baby.
As well, does anyone know a lawyer in the Denver area we could talk to? I am really desperate and need some advice regarding what to do.
