12 Angry Months
Written after the bitter end of a long-term relationship, Local H's new album, 12 Angry Months, chronicles a full year of post-breakup experiences. Each track corresponds to a month and deals with the range of emotions one encounters after love turns sour.
Written after the bitter end of a long-term relationship, Local H's new album, 12 Angry Months, chronicles a full year of post-breakup experiences. Each track corresponds to a month and deals with the range of emotions one encounters after love turns sour. Chicago-based Local H released their first album, Ham Fisted, in 1995. On that album and the gold-selling follow-up As Good As Dead, the band came to be known for sardonic songs such as "Eddie Vedder," "High-Fiving MF" and had their biggest hit with the alternative radio staple, "Bound For The Floor."

Your America: Democracy's Local Heroes
Your America tells the amazing stories of regular Americans who are changing the world. They are tackling urgent problems in their own communities, and they're creating innovative solutions. They enlist the power of civic activism. Their stories teach us that we all have the power to transform our communities. The eight stories on this DVD are all drawn from NOW on PBS, the PBS newsmagazine show with a viewership of over 2 million people. "This is must-see, make-your-blood-boil television." - Newsday "Fearless about challenging conventional wisdom." - Tom Brokaw "One of the last bastions of serious journalism on TV." - The Austin American-Statesman "NOW continues to have such an exciting Edward R. Murrow vibe that you half expect Brancaccio to turn to the camera and bid the audience adieu with an earnest 'Good night, and good luck.'" - Philadelphia Weekly ON THE DVD STOPPING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Wynona Ward is the unlikely founder of Have Justice Will Travel. She went from truck driver to lawyer to inventing a new way to help rural victims of domestic violence. THE BATTLE FIELDS Lucas Benitez worked picking tomatoes in Southern Florida, but the wages were barely enough to live on. He rose up to create an alliance of workers and consumers that forced fast food giants change their ways. CLASS ACT Robert Moses knew that children from poor and minority backgrounds didn't always receive the education they deserved. So he developed The Algebra Project, an innovative program that helps disadvantaged schoolchildren with the power of math. VOTES FOR SALE Jackie Thrasher knew there were problems with Arizona's education system, the responsibility of the state legislature, but what could a music teacher do to change things? The surprising answer: run for office. Thrasher became part of a new movement called clean elections that allows "ordinary" citizens to run for political office. DANCING WITH WOLVES When development threatened the vistas and open spaces of beautiful Madison Valley, Montana, the Owens feared that traditional ranching would become a thing of the past. Together with fellow ranchers, they teamed up with their former enemies - environmentalists - to create a world-class community alliance. THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT Bill Graham, mayor of tiny Scottsburg, Indiana, challenged the telecommunications giants and wired his town for high speed internet. FIGHT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS Katie Redford, a young law student, dusted off the Alien Tort Claims Act of 1789 and ended up changing the way American corporations behave overseas. FOG OF WAR Peggy Buryj took on the U.S. Army to find out the truth about how her son died in Iraq, and helped change how the Army does business. Open Question: Do you consider yourself a good public speaker?
PLEASE! Take time to read my little speech and critique it. It's supposed to be 5 minutes long.
The speech topic is the National Theme:
?HOSA: Where One Person?s Passion Becomes Another Person?s Hero.?
HOSA = Health Occupation Students of America
MY SPEECH
As children we were all afraid of something. Most of us were afraid of the dark; some of us were afraid of the boogey man or even going to school ? I know I was. The funny thing is that I don?t remember ever being afraid of any of these things but NOTHING on God?s green earth scared me more than the sight of blood, no matter how small. But this fear would not last.
One day, when I was in the 4th grade my mom dropped me off at school and as always, I ran to the soccer field to get in some play time before classes began and what I saw would change my life forever. When I got to the dirt field I noticed a small crowd of people and weaved my way through the crowd to see what was going on. I saw the biggest pool of blood I have ever seen and hopefully that I would ever see. From that day onwards I was never afraid of blood. The story was that a kid who was about 10 years old came to school early and no one was there. He got bored and started swinging on the goal post. As he was swinging and playing the goal gave way, fell on him, and almost split his head in half. Now, the unfortunate miracle was that he didn?t die instantly but later died in the arms of his mom at the local hospital. I only wished I was there to comfort him and offer him some kind of hope.
Let?s fast-forward to the present time. When I first came to the U.S from Nigeria in 2003 I was afraid and overwhelmed. I found myself in a foreign country and the only thing I could think about was: How can I survive here?
When it came the time to choose a high school, my dad was trying as hard as he could to convince me to enroll in a school that specialized in specifics fields of study like Law, Art, Technology and Medicine. His grand plan was for me to become a medical doctor!
To be honest with you, I had no interest in medicine but as fate would have it I?m in the medical field. As I speak to you right now I am halfway through my junior year clinical rotation and boy have I seen things? I have seen patients who not only are they physically helpless but emotionally hopeless. People who are longing, thirsting for someone to say: It will be okay. As I see these things, they remind me of that boy whose untimely death helped me overcome my fear of blood. I only pray that one day as a medical professional who was nurtured by HOSA and its principles I can bring comfort and peace to those who need it the most.
If it was up to me, this years theme would be: ?HOSA: Where passion overcomes fear? and I can attest to that.

Open Question: Is it high time to abandon india for its malpractices in bussiness?
I've had numerous bad experiences when dealing with my fellow indians. I had a vodafone connection in UK and never faced a single day of hardship as a customer but when i came to india i've had anything but grievances while dealing with vodafone (india) which is run by local people. It's not a question of just vodafone but every indian company that i dealt with, they lack in integrity and they hardly follow Business ethics. Their main motive is to earn money and they'll do anything to cheat and hurt your hard earned money. It's really difficult dealing with indians because they hardly understand english or pretend not to understand to escape the heat! Isn't it high time foreign investors took a hard stance on a rogue business country like india? Just now i heard that a company called as satyam has duped 7000 crs(indian rupees) from foreign investors! People in america beware before you invest in this place!
It?s a question of integrity. I have lived in India for quite some time. I am of Indian origin but unfortunately the level of honesty in business dealings and respect for customers is very low and I find it hard to interact even when I am an Indian! I am not an anti-national and I support India in other aspects but business dealings are a big no no. I am just too scared to even talk with an Indian businessman!
I just want to come back to America becoz I am fed up of being cheated in every possible way and the worst part being that I am an Indian at the end of the day and it hurts to expose such things but will do it because I don?t want others to get cheated the same way!
Amitava, apoorv... I agree to disagree to your points. Number 1, I've lived in America and Britain for many years and the level of integrity in them is nothing comparable to Indians. Indians have an innocent face from outside but a corrupt character. Sorry to say this but it is quite disheartening. Business ethics are the base and if the base in India is weak, I will have to leave India in disgust and despair. Its not a question of learning apporva, when you deal with clients for many years, you've to learn the basics before you think about profits! When the basics are lacking, of course there is bound to be open cheating!

Open Question: Did you succumb to the Shopcalypse? If we spent half as much on Xmas and gave twice as much to local charity?
could we change the world? Is consumerism the cancer that is killing America? Is it the reason we have hundreds of military bases through out the world? Are cheap toys and shirts at Wal mart for American consumers a good reason to support child slavery and sweatshops outside the US ? (aka..corporations) You can choose how to spend, do you think about the consequences?
jch....STFU
habsburg.....I though about phrasing the question so as to spend more locally but then some billy would have pointed out that everybody has to sell Chinese made cr@p to try and compete with Wal mart. I very much support American products and local small business.
Thank you matt, we do not need that cr@p is right and my point, so why do so many, support so many bad things, by buying it?

i'm also english (with an accent) i moved to america 4 years ago.
i'm terrified, any tips?!

Open Question: Could I get into Wharton?
I'm a junior in the Southeast and am taking 3 AP's this year; english, U.S history, and environmental science. Next year I plan on taking four; stats, english, and both calcs. Currently, I have a 4.6 (weighted GPA) and a 3.8 unweighted. I'm in the top 5% of my class.
I'm hispanic and am Founder and President of my school's FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapter. I've also been in Key Club since freshman year and volunteer every summer at the local university hospital. I'm the treasurer of the Spanish Club and a member of DECA (another business club). To top it off I work 11 hours a week.
I'm a competitive year-round swimmer and swim on my high school team in the winter.
I'm planning on taking the ACT's because my SAT's were weak (1800).
I also have taken Spanish 1-AP, and French 1 &2. I'm not sure if that helps?:p
I'm only asking because no one in my family has gone to college, so I don't know what college I should aim ?
Oh and I've done a few business conferences and programs at Georgetown, Pace, and Duke and paid for them myself.

Resolved Question: Here's my REAL economic plan....what's wrong with it?
1. Cut Capital Gains tax to ZERO, like 90% of all industrial nations
2. Tax Cuts: No tax cuts for the bottom 50% of wage earners, they don't pay any taxes anyway...can you hear me ZERO. Cut taxes on the movers and shakers of our economy..top tax rate 22% under my plan.
3. If you live in America illegally....you have 72 hours to leave our country or you will be arrested and dropped in Mexico via parachute.
4. If you hire an illegal...you will go to jail for 5 years
5. CEO's, if you move your company out of the USA...you may NEVER sell your products here
6. US Automakers: Cut your $78 per hour employees to $25 per hour...then we'll talk bail-out. A H.S. education does not equal a 100K a year income, you turn a bolt for a living...get use to living on your REAL effort.
7. Children: If you make a baby it is YOUR responsibility to feed, cloth and provide Health-Insurance for your child 100% not the government/other tax payers to carry YOUR LOAD. 89% of American have full Health coverage...get in the game or shut-up
8. Celebrate Capitalism instead of bashing it...let's encourage business and stop the crazy laws that force companies to lay-off & close.
9. The Homeless: They will be called what they are: Bum's, Tramps, Lazy people. They are .05% of the population and choose their life-style
10. Cut Government: 14.5% of everyone is employeed by either Federal, State or local governments. Cut that down to 8% on all levels.
11. Layers of Government (5): Most of us don't know we live under (5) layers of government. Federal, State, County, Township & City. Cut it to 3 layers and save TRILLIONS! (I have a detailed Plan...very exciting)
12. Lobbyist: If any government elected offical is caught reciving a RED-CENT, making eye contact with a foriegn lobbyist...you are to be tried for high treason.
These are just a few points of my plan...
please ask questions...and I'll answer you
what do you think?

Resolved Question: Why did Urban Dictionary refuse my definition?
I am from the Chicagoland area, and as you can probably guess, we do quite a bit of talking about our local celebrity, president elect Barack Obama. In my circle of friends and elsewhere locally, the nickname "Bodahg" seems to have cropped up, both in a positive and negative way. For those who like Obama, its used as a "He's one of the people and not a Washington elitist" nickname, and for those who don't, its used as a "He doesn't know what he's doing and doesn't belong in the presidency" nickname. I'm not quite sure where I stand, personally, but I liked the term, and so I submitted the following definition (below) to Urban Dictionary for "Bodahg." They refused my submission, and I'm really wondering why. Presidential nicknames, both good and bad, are nothing new...Dwight Eisenhower was "Ike," Nixon was "Tricky Dick," Clinton was "Slick Willy," Bush was "Dubya." Searching for "Dubya" on Urban Dictionary returns thousands of results, 99% of which are concerned with how much Bush messed up our country and how horrible he is. My definition for the Obama nickname isn't especially mean or especially nice, yet while thousands of entries insulting Bush (and yes, maybe he should be insulted) are there, our nickname for Obama can't get on UD. Anyone have any idea why?
The definition and example I gave were...
BOdaHg
A term for the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack
Obama. The term, created by the amalgamation of President Obama's initials B, H, and O, and a stereotypical affectionate epithet, references the diminutive term of "Dubya," an adaptation of the initial of President Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, and is meant to likewise diminutive by some, but positive by others. It is often employed by those who dislike the contrast of the overwhelming popularity of President Obama and the perceived disrespect for his predecessor and for the office of the Presidency when occupied by George W. Bush. By those more favorable to Obama, the nickname is used to demonstrate how he is "one of the people" and not an unapprochable Washington insider.
Examples:
"Man, I can't wait for January 20th, Bodahg's gonna run the country!"
"Finally, a normal president. I can relate to Bodahg, he's almost a normal person!"
"Jeez, I can't believe they gave the presidency to Bodahg."

Resolved Question: CNN Documentary: White in America?
CNN recently did a special documentary called "Black in America". Potential senator Burris plays the race card, and another congressman says we need more blacks in it. Not for their merits, but for being black. Affirmative action and the fear of getting sued guarantees black people jobs if they want them. In my local newspaper, I saw a construction job in the classified saying they prefer a minority.
Is it a stretch that one day, there will be a documentary titled "White in America"?

Resolved Question: Does America Want Gun Control?
Being from the UK I cannot possibly understand why any American wouldn't support a change for the better by introducing Gun Controls.
In fact a total ban on guns would be the best option, but with the election of Obama its been reported that American Citizens have been rushing out to buy up more guns just in case!
Is this true?
I have only ever been to the US once and the local eatery windows were shot out by a jilted ex of one of the waitresses and our local cabbie had his back window shot out.
Its crazy to have so many guns in circulation.
With some many in circulation would a ban be impossible?
