E.S. Sorensen Stormglass Weather Change Predictor (Brass)
E.S. Sorensen Stormglass Weather Change Predictor (Brass) This mysterious weather predictor has been used since 1750. Admiral Fitzroy, the famous sailor and meteorologist, used the Stormglass aboard the HMS Beagle during his historic voyage with Darwin. After 250 years, how the Stormglass works is still a mystery, but it is believed that it has to do with the electromagnetic changes caused by weather and sun storms. The appearance of the crystals inside the glass indicates changes in the weather. The sealed glass chamber that holds the crystals is encapsulated in a beautifully crafted brass cylinder. It can be displayed freestanding or mounted to a boat bulkhead or wall using an optional mounting bracket. Polished brass. Dims: 1.65" x 5.75".

Haedong Kumdo: Korean Sword Art
Haedong Kumdo: Korean Sword Art While the popular Korean martial arts like taekwondo and tang soo do have spread around the world, generations of warriors have quietly practiced more traditional Korean Combat arts, preserving centuries old techniques in virtual secrecy. Now, you can discover what few people outside of Korea know-the rich tradition of Korean warrior arts like ssireum, kumdo and archery.

Each tape in this continuing series gives you a rare glimpse of the techniques, history and philosophy of an art through the words and actions of its masters. Kumdo encompasses practice with both the wooden training sword and the forged steel sword. On this tape, both types of practice are demonstrated by some of the top Kumdo practitioners in Korea. Using the wooden sword, the masters demonstrate training exercises, basic skills and combat drills with a partner. They then progress to more intricate sequences of cuts with the live sword blade, including fascinating demonstrations of cutting prowess in which bamboo is sliced and candles are extinguished with masterful speed.

Hook
Hook Steven Spielberg's deeply flawed but sporadically fun and moving update of the Peter Pan legend stars Robin Williams as the grown-up Pan, a corporate-takeover type who must embrace his old identity in order to save his kids from Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman). The stars put on a good show, including Hoffman's read of Hook's hysterical personality, Julia Roberts mini-turn as a tiny Tinker Bell, and Maggie Smith's touching performance as the aged Wendy. The visual contrast between the adult Pan's bustling outside world and the insulated fantasy of Neverland is striking, but Spielberg's ideas about the Lost Boys--politically correct in their ethnic diversity, energetic on skateboards--are contrived and cheapening. On the plus side, the story's theme about adults finding their innocence again through their children is very touching (though some people have found it cloying). If you can look beyond the glaring problems, there's plenty to like here. --Tom Keogh

Open Question: Has anyone been on the Carnival Cruise ship the "Carnival Pride"?
How has it? Did you like it? Where'd you sail to? I ask bc my cousin went on a Carnival Cruise and the boat she was on was VERY old (the oldest) and the pool was tiny and a number of things were out dated and I feel like for the price she paid that the boat could have been a little more...modern.... But she still had a ball and was still content with her cruise. I just have no other way of knowing about the look/feel of the boat that I plan to go on. Please help. (more...)

Open Question: Will I ever meet someone and be happy?
I am now 30 yrs. old and still single. I have been through numerous relationships, and always end up in the same boat. Alone, and regretting my decision to leave. It's very frustrating. I was living with my girlfriend for 2 yrs. and we decided to split. At the time I saw all the reasons why we should, but afterwards I regretted it. I felt I could have done more to save the relationship afterwards, but while we were together I felt that I could never do enough to make her happy. She was a very attractive, but insecure person, and she required alot of attention. She said that I did not tell her how beautiful she was enough, but when I did, she would kind of act like I was saying it but didn't mean it. She also would stress out about little things, and seemed to blame me when things didn't go right. She is the type that has had her life planned out, and thought that if things weren't going how she expected them to, then her life wasn't right. Ever since we broke up I can't help but blame myself for not doing more. It has left me with the question of "did I do the right thing by leaving?", which is an answer that I feel I will never be able to answer, and it really bothers me. I feel because I have had some many relationships fail that there is something wrong with me. I always go after the really attractive girls, which seem to have more problems and insecurities, than really finding someone who has a lot in common with me. She said that we didn't have a lot in common and that it wouldn't last. At the time I agreed, and decided it was best to leave before we got married and ended up in divorce. Now I am going out, but unable to meet anyone. It bothers me that I have had such beautiful women, but no one in bars seem to even notice me. I feel that I have peaked and that I will never meet anyone as attractive again. I know that its sounds shallow to say, and looks are not everything, but how is it possible to date those kinds of women, and now I can't even get a girl to talk to me? I could go on and on about our relationships, and I know that it wasn't all my fault. But she has moved on (which I'm sure wasn't hard for her to do, she probably had guys beating her door down now that she is single), I can't seem to. Now I'm 30 and feel that life is passing me by. Getting married and having a family is really important to me, and now I feel like I'm on a timeline for this to happen. I was ready to marry this girl, but I always told her that as long as she seemed unhappy with the relationship, then I wouldn't ask. How can you live with someone for 2 yrs., and then say you don't have enough in common. It was no suprise to me, or anyone else that we were different, but it was those differences that attracted me (at times) to her. I feel like I will always blame myself for not doing more to save our relationship. I can't seem to move on and it has been 3 mths. I could say more, but your probably tired of reading by now. Anyways, I could really use your advice, especially if you have been here before. Thanks. (more...)

Open Question: what is the name of this movie?
HI everybody, there was a movie i watched around 4-5 years ago or possibly more. I don't remember the title of the movie so i was hoping with all the information i give you guys, you can name it for me. It's about a boy and a dog and i THINK their boat broke on a certain island and the boy only had a dog with him on that island. there was a part i think where he ate a spider and i remember at the end he was rescued first and his dog was still on the island. There was another part where it was night and possibly it was raining and there we're wolves or foxes at night and the boy's dog fought them off. if i remember, i believe the boy got a present from a girl and it was dog food at a school as well. Sorry but i hope this much information is enough. (more...)

Open Question: What do I write next for my reflective essay?
Ryan Hawk Mr. Edward English 3 4 January 2009 Reflection on Recycling Activity Recycle. What a vigorous word that never quite pronounced itself in my daily activities, at least not until a month ago. As I sipped the remaining drop of diet coke and mechanically threw the empty container into our overcrowded garbage disposal, the word recycle bombarded my mind. Quite a while back, my family had planned, what seemed like an organized and easy arrangement, to recycle and earn a little cash for recreational activities, but it seems that they, including myself, have become very lazy and unmotivated to go through with the task. Well, I realized that I needed to do something about that. I began to remember various commercials, which have become increasingly popular, about becoming active in the ?green? community by recycling and saving energy. So, I consciously plowed through our pantry and retrieved a separate garbage bag, proudly hung it on the knob outside our pantry and threw the vacant can into it. With no further delay, I motivated my family into a recycling plan, which involved recycling empty soda cans and paying monthly visits to my father?s company called Bighorn Bolt & Anchor. My father unselfishly let me recycle some usable pieces of steel he had been using for boat projects. Within a month or so, I had obtained over three hundred and sixty four cans of diet coke, amazingly, and about fifty pounds of steel. With my truck loaded and ready to go, I drove down to the nearest recycling center near west park plaza, and deposited my treasures. I proudly went home with fifty seven dollars in hand. I've never done a reflective essay, so what do I write next. Please Help!! Paper due tomorrow!! (more...)

Open Question: can someone rewrite this whole thing for me? perhaps, sounding less intelligent and less words?
Achilles? Heel: When Achilles was a baby his mother tried to forestall his destiny by dipping every part of his body into magic water, which was supposed to protect him against battle wounds, yet she missed to immerse her son?s heel into the water; years later he was pierced with an arrow into his heel, his one vulnerable spot. Midas Touch: When Dionysus granted Midas one wish, he wished that everything he touched turned to gold, and he became an instant billionaire, yet this wish meant that everything he touched, including his food, wine, and even his daughter were transformed into gold. Pandora?s Box: Before Pandora was sent to live on earth she was given a box by Zeus and told never to open it, but once she arrived on earth curiosity got the better of her, and she opened the box, releasing war, plague, and famine that would forever reside in the world. Pyrrhic Victory: King Pyrrhus and the Romans were battling for control of northwestern Greek territory, and Pyrrhus hoped to panic the Romans by sending a herd of battle elephants to charge against the Romans, but his plan failed when the Romans fiercely fought back, and King Pyrrhus?s army suffered heavy losses. Scylla and Charybdis: On his voyage home, Odysseus either had to sail past Scylla, the six headed monster, or face the churning whirlpool, and if he got too close, his ship would be sucked deep into the abyss, so he decided to face Scylla, yet the monster ended up eating six of Odysseus?s men. Siren?s Song: Odysseus and his men were faced with a challenge when they came across the beautiful sea nymphs, for the sailors were drawn to their beautiful voices, yet those who yielded this temptation were drawn towards the Sirens? Island and died on its rocky coast, so to resist temptation Odysseus ordered his men to plug their ears with beeswax and to tie Odysseus to the mast, so that he would stay secured to the boat.
