Great Hotels Season 1 - Episode 17: The Boulders - Arizona
Take a lively armchair visit to some of the exceptional resort hotels throughout the United States. Along the way, host Samantha Brown experiences first-hand what makes these hotel destinations popular, appealing, unique, and memorable. Each episode presents an entertaining "story" of up to two different hotel destinations, complete with encounters and eccentricities that creatively show and tell what makes each hotel a great experience. Episode 17: A nature lover's paradise! The BouldersResort & Golden Door Spa is located in the dramatic foothills of the Sonoran Desert, just outside of Scottsdale, Arizona. Named for the gigantic granite formations that dot the landscape, The Boulders is a one-of-a-kind destination. Spread over 1,300 acres, the resort went to great lengths to preserve the natural habitat of the desert and designed its 160 adobe guestrooms and villas to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Samantha checks in and soon finds her day filled with resort activities of all kinds, from a daring rock-climbing adventure 75 feet up to a shopping spree at El Pedregal, the resort's Moroccan-style marketplace featuring upscale Southwestern shops and galleries, a cooking class with cactus topping the list of ingredients, to enjoying the day's end at a favorite Scottsdale hangout, Greasewood Flats. Samantha steps up to the dance floor for some good ol' two-stepping with friendly locals. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Resolved Question: HELP i need poetry help!!!!!!?
so i have this poetry oral report due monday and this poem is confusing me. can you give me some insight and opinions on what you think is happening i know whats happening but just need some help and also i cant find any links that have thispoem on it so please if you find it and help me i will give you best answer!!!!
here is the poem
"Flowers"
Margaret Atwood
Right now I am the flower girl.
I bring fresh flowers, dump out the old ones, the greenish water
that smell like dirty teeth
into the bathroom sink, snip off the stem ends
with surgical scissors I borrowed from the nursing station,
put them in a jar
I brought from home, because they don't have vases
in this hotel for the ill,
place them on the table beside my father
where he can't se them
becuase he won't open his eyes.
He lies flattened under the white sheet.
He says he is on a ship,
and I can see it-
the functional white walls, the minimal windows,
the little bells, the rubbery footsteps of strangers,
the whispering all around
of the air-conditioner, or else the ocean,
and he is on a ship;
he's giving us up, giving up everything
but the breath going in
and out of his diminished body;
minute by minute he's sailing slowly away,
away from us and our waving hands
that do not wave.
The women come in, two of them, in blue;
it's no use being kind, in here, if you don't have hands like theirs-
large and capable, the hands
of plump muscular angels,
the ones that blow trumpets and lift swords.
They shift him carefully, tuck in the corners.
It hurts, but as little as possible.
Pain is their lore. The rest of us
are helpless amateurs.
A suffering you can neither cure nor enter-
there are worse things, but not many.
After a while it makes us impatient.
Can't we do anything but feel sorry?
I sit there, watching the flowers in their pickle jar. He is asleep, or not.
I think; He looks like a turtle.
Or: He looks erased.
But somewhere in there, at the far end of the tunnel
of pain and forgetting he's trapped in
is the same father I knew before,
the one who carried the green canoe
over the portage, the painter trailing,
myself with the fishing rods, slipping on the wet boulders and slapping flies.
That was the last time we went there.
There will be a last time for this also,
bringing cut flowers to this white room.
Sooner or later I too
will have to give everything up,
even the sorrow that comes with these flowers,
even the anger,
even the memory of how I brought them
from a garden I will no longer have by then,
and put them beside my dying father,
hoping I could still save him.
Thank u very much julie email me

Resolved Question: South Africa vacation advice, help for aifare, accomodations and activities in February from Toronto ?
Hi, I am planning to go to south africa with my wife on february 8th for about 10 days from Toronto, Canada. We wanted a destination that gave us more than gorgeous beach, we wanted some things to keep us busy and we like natural beauty. So minus thailand and europe, we decided south africa. My plan is to visit Durban and Cape town. Accomodation wise, i want to be comfortable from 3 to 5 stars as it is a one in lifetime trip.Activities wise. | was thinking of doing table mountain, cape point, the boulder beach, the botanical garden, V & A waterfront shopping, the beaches in capetown and in durban i dont know. Also, interested in driving the garden route from capetown to east. Safari if i ahve time and money. Draknesburg maountains/ maybe. In total i have no idea how much it is going to cost us, maybe 6000$ including food and tours? Can someone help me planning the trip and give me the right info? see...
1. Is south africa worth it as vacation vs europe and asia, knowing the danger and crime rate?
2. how much will i come to for both of us the total trip?
3. Which activities and how long do you recommend us within 10 days?
4. The airlines and airport to take from Toronto and within S. Africa?
5. the best beaches in cape town? the accomodations and meals suggestions?
6. Would it be safe and expensive driving the garden route and panoramaic route from cape town to i dont know where?
7. My friend told me to jsut go there and book the same day last minute the tours I want from the hotel iin cape town
8. Should i split somehow my 10 days and visit mauritius too?
Thank you

Resolved Question: Why do Democrats not understand the wealthy keep the rest of us employed?
Now, I was under the impression, because I listened to Senator Obama during the campaign, that he's only going to raise taxes on the rich, 'cause they've got it. They don't need it. They have more than they need. They can afford it. So he needs to raise taxes on the rich and cut taxes on the, quote, unquote, "middle class." So he wants economic recovery to bubble up from the bottom or whatever, which is very tough to do when you're at the bottom and you're broke. I don't know how you bubble anything up when you're broke, but that's not the point. I have a story here from AP-Obama, and it's about three Colorado ski resorts being "forced" to lay off workers. (gasping) It's from the Durango Herald. We read the Durango Herald every day here. It's part of our show prep rotation. (laughing) It might embarrass them so much they go out of business.
"This ski season is shaping up to be the worst in years, said a Canadian ski-resort company that has announced it has laid off workers across a dozen resorts, including three in Colorado. Vancouver-based Intrawest Corp. hasn't said exactly how many workers it let go, but company officials say the weak economy is squeezing the ski business." Now, who is it that goes out to Colorado and skis? No, it's not the poor. The poor are working in the hotels. The poor are working in the restaurants, the, quote, unquote, poor. The poor are working at the ski resorts where the rich are not going because the economy is cutting into their disposable income and they think that they've got tax increases coming.
"Colorado's Steamboat Ski & Resort, for example, is more than three hours by car from Denver. Because of that, most visitors fly in and stay several days, while smaller resorts closer to big cities have an easier time surviving a poor economy. 'They're not as dependent on out-of- state and international visitors,' Dave Belin, director at Boulder-based research firm RRC Associates, told the Rocky Mountain News. In a survey of skiers conducted online last month, RRC found that most skiers planned to ski as often as last year. But they planned to cut back in other ways -- on lodging, lessons and other extras such as traveling a long way to get to a ski mountain." See, I thought tax increases and other trivial income killers amounted to chump change to wealthy Americans. But this is what I told you, and this is the main reason I said we gotta support Senator McCain, in fact, because of his tax policy was right.
Every time you hear Obama or some Democrat talking about raising taxes on the rich to help the little guy, it's the little guy that gets shafted, and this ski resort story is a classic example. So we have to take the wealthy down a notch or two. How could that hurt anybody? Why, that couldn't hurt anybody! We gotta take the wealthy down a notch or two. They give up a little chump change, Obama can spend it on welfare checks for those who don't pay income taxes, and life is good for everybody! Except raising taxes is not chump change to rich people. That was just Obama shooting his mouth off. It turns out when the wealthy are pummeled by bad economic news of any kind they pull back, too. Nothing is chump change, and so now they're going to visit ski resorts less. And when they, the people that pay the freight by going skiing go less or don't stay overnight in hotels and so forth the ski resorts, three of them owned by a Canadian firm, are laying off the little guy, the guy who's supposed to benefit from tax increases on the rich.

Resolved Question: Anyone know South Africa really well? school project!?
I'm in a 10th grade World Cultures class. This project is all about booking a trip to Africa under $7,500 (we're not really going). I'm already finished booking flights and hotels. The other part of the project is seeing 4 different things while I'm there and writing about what I saw. (1-2 paragraphs each place). We also have to include a picture for each place. The picture part is easy but I'm having trouble writing summaries. I've already chosen my four places..
The Castle of Good Hope
Boulders Beach
Cape Point
Two Oceans Aquarium
Can anyone tell me about these places? or give me a good site to look up something that summarizes what you COULD see???? Thank you so much!

Resolved Question: Coming to Vegas around the end of March 2009...?
What is the weather USUALLY like around this time of year?
I work for Extended Stay America, and we get free hotel stays at any of our hotels in the USA. Which hotel is closer to the strip and the nicest?
4240 Boulder Hwy--- Extended Stay America
1550 E, Flamingo Rd --- Extended Stay Deluxe
3045 S. Maryland Pkwy --- Homestead Studio
4270 S. Valley View Blvd. --- Extended Stay America
This is my first trip to Vegas so I want to save as much as possible on hotel accommodations and use my extra cash on me and my husband having fun on the strip and "fine" dinning lol... We have 2 little ones at home so we can't spend too much but we still want to have a good time. We will be in town for a week.
