Open Question: How man of these colleges will I get into??? Help!?
So, now that all of my applications are in, I was wondering what people think my chances are at the schools I applied to. The schools I applied to are: 1.Amherst College 2.SUNY Binghamton 3.Boston University 4.Bucknell 5.Carnegie Mellon 6.Cornell 7.Duke 8.SUNY Geneseo 9.Johns Hopkins 10.Northeastern 11.RPI 12.SUNY Stony Brook 13.Tufts 14.WPI 15.Yale Yes I know, long list... Amherst and Yale were basically to please my insane dad who thinks I can get in anywhere, they're, as far as I'm concerned, huge huge reaches. My Stats: 92 GPA unweighted Rank in Class: 25 SAT scores: 2130 (750 critical reading, 690 on both math and writing) ACT: 33 composite (33 math and english, 35 reading, 30 science) Accelerated Classes: Honors- English 9H, English 10H, English 11H, Biology 9H, Chemistry 10H, Global History 9H AP- European History, U.S. History, Calculus BC, English Literature IB- Mathematics SL, Physics SL, Psychology SL, History of the Americas HL, Biology HL Extracurriculars: Soccer 9th and 10th grade, Newspaper Club Editor, part of the school peer mediator program (basically, the students in my grade picked a few people who they felt would best help solve conflicts, and I was one of them... we do annual clinics and occasionally have like counseling type things), uhh... thats about it in terms of clubs/sports Community Service: mostly through my church and some through my town's chamber of commerce, about 80 hours in total Work Experience: I've worked since freshman year, averaging 20-30 hrs a week depending on if it was summer of during school. I worked in a restaurant until summer of 2008, when it closed, then worked on a farm until it closed for the winter, usually 15-20 hrs a week. Recommendations: Of course I'm not really sure how they turned out, but from what I can surmise they were really good recommendations, from my math teacher (I had IB math with him last yr and now Calc) and an english teacher i had in 9th and 11th grade. My counselor doesnt seem to know anybody, but I take the most rigorous courses I can short of the IB diploma and she seems to like me, so I think I got a good recommendation from her as well. Application Essay: I put so many hours into this damn thing, and I think its pretty amazing, to be honest. So yeah, there's me in a nutshell. What are my chances at these schools? But yeah if I had the choice out of any of those I'd go to Tufts, its obviously not the best school on the list but I totally dig it there and love the Medford area. Thanks so much in advance!! to answer that, i just seem to have a really good feel for context; i have a pretty decent vocabulary, but the main thing is understanding what makes sense and what sounds right in regards to the question. and one thing i do is take the reading twice, basically: i go through quick, answering all of the questions, then go through again and find any mistakes i made because i tend to look at it from a different viewpoint the second time (i'm a fast reader) (more...)

Open Question: Are you following the attack on media outlet in Sri Lanka? Per review I would like to know is the following:?
The Colombo Post (now defunct) was edited by Sri Lanka?s Consul ? General in Toronto. I have read several very different perspectives on the closure of the paper but what seems to stand out is that the paper was releasing information from unnamed sources that deemed to be from the diplomatic station that were not following proper lines of communication to the Government. The Consul-General is supposed to be releasing/sharing information with the government via secure transmission lines or diplomatic pouch not through the newspaper. This is especially true due to a war with a non-conventional enemy the LTTE. And priority of information should first be with the government and only after government clearance should be disseminated through the media. This is not significant of a fascist government but of a non-linear/multi-national terrorist threat. The exact location of these "leaks" is still unknown but it has been surmised to be of detriment. http://www.lankabusinessonline.com/fullstory.php?nid=1258452693 This item from US Ambassador Robert Blake?s office looks a bit more professional on the surface. Mr. Blake?s item appears from a business publication and Mr. Blake chairs the Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka ? known as the ?American Chamber of Commerce?. Usually diplomats work through a Bureau of Investment not a ?Chamber of Commerce? because of the level and complexity of diplomatic dealings. In this manner, it is unusual. In Mr. Blake?s piece it is stated that Sri Lanka is considered ?One of the most dangerous places for journalists in the world after Iraq? What both Sri Lanka and Iraq are learning is that threats posed against the established government include hit-and-run incidents that share a very high degree of mutual occurrence. These events include synchronized, international attacks from different terror elements in a same or sequential time frame. A recent event that comes to mind were the spate of multiple child abductions ? these occurred in a period of few days in Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq and one other country that is not currently coming to mind. Prior to that there was a spate of attacks on diplomatic drivers, prior to that there was a series of assassination attempts on Presidents and Prime Ministers. This is indicative of terror networks that I first noticed the existence of in 2006. I have not only reported these events to my government, but also to yours, to Europol and the British Home Office. Whenever I see another sequence-I report it. It has become standard procedure in places such as the Middle East, Israel, Iraq and Sri Lanka to recuse press coverage and NGO/INGO interaction with terrorist elements or within high security threat areas because press/NGO security cannot be guaranteed in a non-linear, multi-national, synchronized threat environments. The press wants autonomy of movement without consultation of military or government but at the same time wants the government to instantaneously act/react when an incident is perpetrated against that body. There is an ongoing investigation Mr. Blake to ascertain what and who caused the attacks at Sirasa studios. It is also in no way representative of unbiased journalism or even professional journalism as it has spelling and contextual errors as well as lack of journalistic style that would leave it to be categorized as a propaganda piece. Being propaganda, displayed as journalism, the first question that comes to mind is who does it benefit and where did it originate? ?Most of the terror squad were wearing trousers, tee- shirts and boots. They were young and physically fit and were close ? cropped and clean ? shaven. DIRECT NUMBER TEL/ 00226 76 61 65 94 (REMITTANCE OF $12.5 MILLION U.S.A DOLLARS) (CONFIDENTIAL IS THE CASE") Compliments of the Season Forgive my indignation if this message comes to you as a surprise and may offend your personality for contacting you without your prior consent and writing through this channel. I got your contact from the professional data base found in the chambers of commerce. When I was searching for a foreign reliable partner. I assured of your capability and reliability to champion this business opportunity. After serious of prayers/fasting. I was divinely directed to contact you among other names found in the data base chambers of commerce search. I believe that God has a way of helping who is in need. Barack Obama started pushing his economic stimulus plan on Capitol Hill on Monday, including about $300bn of tax cuts that could soften Republican resistance. ?We are working with Congress to develop a tax cut package based on a simple principle: what will have the biggest and most immediate impact on creating private sector jobs and supporting the middle class,? a transition spokesman said yesterday. ?We are being guided by what works, not by ideology.? Transition officials denied the measures were designed to secure Republican backing for the stimulus plan, pointing out that middle-class tax cuts had been a central plank of Mr Obama?s election campaign. But the mooted incentives for business marked an expansion of his existing plans and came amid pressure from Republicans to commit a bigger share of the stimulus to tax cuts. The president-elect held talks with leaders from both parties on Capitol Hill on Monday, on his first full working day in Washington since the election. He has proposed a stimulus package of $675bn (?497bn, £461bn) to $775bn over two years to shore up the slumping economy and wants to sign legislation into law soon after he takes office on January 20. Leaders from both parties have warned that the bill may be delayed because of wrangling over its size and contents. But Mr Obama on Monday renewed his demand for prompt action, warning of an ?extraordinary economic challenge? that lies ahead. ?The most important message is that the situation is getting worse,? he told reporters. ?We?ve got to act boldly and we?ve got to act swiftly... This is not a Republican problem or a Democratic problem, this is an American problem.? The president-elect said he was still hopeful a bill would be agreed ?soon? after his inauguration but acknowledged it may slip into February. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House of Representatives, predicted a ?spirited? debate with Republicans but pledged ?to work together in a bipartisan way, with great civility, with great fiscal discipline?. Democrats need some Republican support to pass legislation in the Senate, where the party lacks a filibuster-proof majority, and Mr Obama has made clear he actively wants broad bipartisan backing for the stimulus. He is expected to make a high-profile speech on Thursday, making his case to the public for the recovery plan. Under Mr Obama?s latest proposals, about 40 per cent of the package would be spent on tax cuts, according to transition aides. Roughly $150bn would be devoted to his campaign pledge to grant tax credits of up to $1,000 each to workers and families earning less than $200,000 a year. An additional $100bn or more would be allocated for business incentives, including tax credits for companies that hire new workers and tax breaks on investment in new equipment. Business leaders welcomed the proposals. ?Significant tax relief will spur consumer spending, business investment, and help jumpstart the economy,? said Bruce Josten, head of government affairs at the US Chamber of Commerce. You Call me White boy, Cracker, Honkey, Whitey, Caveman. And that's OK. But when I call you, Nigger, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink... You call me a racist. You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, So why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi You have the NAACP. You have BET. If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) ? We'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day ? You would call us racists. If we had White History Month ? We'd be racists. If we had any organization for only whites to "advance OUR lives" ? You would call us racists. We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that? If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships You know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US , yet if there were a "White college" THAT would be a racist college. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching For your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, You would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're Not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride. You call us racists. You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer Shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society. You call him a racist. I am proud and white. But, you call me a racist. Ever wonder... Why is it that only whites can be racists?
