Open Question: There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall building. ?
1. There is a man who lives on the top floor of a very tall building. Everyday he gets the elevator down to the ground floor to leave the building to go to work.Upon returning from work though, he can only travel half way up in the lift and has to walk the rest of the way unless it's raining! Why? (This is probably the best known and most celebrated of all lateral thinking puzzles. It is a true classic. Although there are many possible solutions which fit the initial conditions, only the canonical answer is truly satisfying.) Why???????????? http://www.chamseljanoub.com/vb (more...)

Resolved Question: Choir... Composers report?
I missed a choir concert and thats worth over half of our grade. I now have a C and have only a few weeks to get the grade up before the end of the term. For extra credit, I need to write a 2 pg single spaced report on a composer. I can't decide which one to do! And I can't find very much credible information on any of the ones I've been thinking of (Bach, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel. Most of the classic, well known ones) Who should I do? Please provide links to lots of understandable (I'm in the 8th grade) information on the composer (more...)

Open Question: album artwork only showing up sometimes on ipod classic?
ok, so i know how to add artwork in itunes. i do it manually because i continue to receive the 609 error. i have a 120GB classic, and when i sync my music to it and then go to listen to it, half the time the artwork shows up, and half the time it doesn't. maybe i'm just very particular, but it bothers me when the artwork doesn't show up. it's always a gamble. is this just something i have to deal with, or is there a way to always have my artwork? thanks(: (more...)

Open Question: what jobs are there for a history major?
Im currently in the second half of my first semester in community college where im majoring in psychology. However when I transfer out I plan on majoring in history with perhaps a minor in classics. I'm just not sure what job options there are out there for history majors. I'm very interested in research and things of that nature, but after researching archaeology I just do not think that is the life for me nor am I that interested in teaching mostly because of the pay reasons. Open Question: How do u think this sounds?
Okay I had to write a bio on Taylor Swift, tell me how it sounds would ya? btw i am gonna use abbreviations but not on my final report okay and im only showing u like half. Taylor Swift I read a bio on Taylor Swift- The pop-country princess sweetheart. Taylor grew up on a farm in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Her mom was a major business executive, So that's why she wanted to name her daughter Taylor- because if anybody saw on a business card the name, Taylor, they wouldn't know if it was a boy or girl if they were thinking of hiring her. But Taylor didn't go exactly the way her mom had planned but her parents were still perfectly fine with it. Taylor was born December 13 1989, after she was born her mom decided to become a full time mom. Taylor was happy that her mom stayed home to raise her "My mom decided to stay home to raise me. She totally raised me to be logical and practical. I was brought up with such a strong woman in my life and i think that had a lot to do with me not wanting to do anything half way" Taylor told the 'Ottawa Citizen'. By the time Taylor was 2 she found out she would be a big sister to a little brother named Austin. They acted just like brother and sister should act. For Taylor 2 must have been a very exciting age. Because Taylor was 2 when she revealed her hidden talent--Singing! Actually here are home video's of Taylor walking up to strangers and start singing to them- like songs from the lion king. They all thought she was the most cutest child ever. Andrea and scott--Taylor's parents-- weren't to surprised when they had a singer in the family, after all Andrea's mother had been a professional opera singer. When Taylor was 6 she got a LeAnn Rimes album--'Blue'. That's when Taylor discovered country music. She'd listen to the album non stop! LeAnn was one of the biggest teen country singers of all time! Releasing her first album when she was 13-no wonder Taylor wanted to follow in the footsteps. After that CD Taylor was hooked on Country Music. She would always sing along to the songs of her fav country singers, so Her mom encouraged her to try out for the community children's theater when she was 9. She had a blast acting, and she loved to be in musicals the best. She was 10 when she knew that she had to be a country singer. She was on stage playing Sandy from 'Grease' and every song lyric came out sounding like country! She already knew she was gonna be a singer- she couldn't put that voice to rest. But then she knew it had to be country. And she loved to be on stage too! everything was perfect. She was pretty, talented, loved the attention. Taylor sang at bars and restraunts on karaoke night. she had to beg her parents to take her. They knew how much it meant to her so they had to take her. One of Taylors fav places to go was Pat Garrett roadhouse. A couple of country stars sang there every week. And so every week, they offered a winner-The winner would be able to open for the singer that would be there that night. Taylor just kept telling Pat 'I'm just going to come back here if u don't let me win once' she would never give up. With her determination and talent, Taylor got the chance to open for Charlie Daniels and other country acts. Taylor soon started performing at fairs and festivals, she took an chance she could just to be up on stage. Every weekend Taylor would sing at a fair, festival or karaoke contests. "The cool thing about this is that my parents never pushed me. It's always been my desire and love to do this. That's what makes it so sweet, see if i had been pushed , if i didn't love this, i would probably not have made it this far" Taylor told CMT.com. Taylor just kept finding places to sing. She sang the national anthem at a bunch of sporting events when she was 11, She sang at Philadelphia 76er games, and Jay-Z (who had been watching) gave her a high five after she sang-she bragged about that for a year straight. She had been getting a lot success, Taylor's mom helped her record a demo CD.it had a bunch of songs of Taylor singing karaoke of classic Country songs. Taylor knew she would have to get the attention of BigWigs of of country music in Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville was a big music city, it's home of the framed Ryman Auditorium, the Grand Ole Opry, and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. Since Taylor wanted to follow in LeAnn Rimes footsteps, her mom and her made copies of her Demo CD, and drove down to Nashville. She handed out her CD to every Music Label receptionist and said 'Hi. Im Taylor Swift and Im 11 and I ant a record deal' and handed them her Cd. It took a lot of courage to do that. Finally someone was nice enough to call Taylor and tell her that's not the way you get a record deal. So of course she didn't get one on that trip to Nash (more...)

Voting Question: why deny the proof that evolutioin is false?
?There is a lot here, so if it's not for you then quit reading now. Ive been studying and found all this about the faults of evolution, some from Chrisitan sources and some from secular (that way atheists couldn't dismiss it because it was all ?Chrisitian) the result below are from both view points and show flaws of evolution. Inspite of all this why do you still say evolution is possible? The basic flaw of all evolutionary views is the origin of the information in living beings. It has never been shown that a coding system and semantic information could originate by itself in a material medium, and the information theorems predict that this will never be possible. A purely material origin of life is thus precluded.? Gitt, Werner "I believe that one day the Darwinian myth will be ranked the greatest deceit in the history of science." Lovtrup, Soren The instructions for how to build, operate, and repair living cells represent a vast amount of information (estimated at 12 billion bits). Information is a mental, non-material concept. It can never arise from a natural process and is always the result of an intelligence. Just as a newspaper story transcends the ink on the paper, life?s DNA itself (like the ink) is not the information, it is simply a physical representation or housing of the information (the story). Modifying the DNA via mutation can never produce new genetic information to drive upward evolution, just as spilling coffee on the newspaper, thereby modifying the distribution of the ink, will never improve the story. Non-living chemicals cannot become alive on their own. The cell is a miniature factory with many active processes, not a simple blob of ?protoplasm? as believed in Darwin?s day. Lightening striking a mud puddle or some ?warm little pond? will never produce life. This is another view of the core issue of information as the simplest living cell requires a vast amount of information to be present. The ?Law of Biogenesis? states that life comes only from prior life. Spontaneous generation has long been shown to be impossible (by Louis Pasteur in 1859). Numerous efforts to bring life from non-life (including the famous Miller-Urey experiment) have not succeeded. The probability of life forming from non-life has been likened to the probability of a tornado going through a junkyard and spontaneously assembling a working 747 airplane. The idea that life on earth may have been seeded from outer space just moves the problem elsewhere. Design is apparent in the living world. Even Richard Dawkins in his anti-creation book The Blind Watchmaker admits ?Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.? The idea that ?nothing works until everything works.? The classic example is a mousetrap, which is irreducibly complex in that if one of its several pieces is missing or not in the right place, it will not function as a mousetrap and no mice will be caught. The systems, features, and processes of life are irreducibly complex. What good is a circulatory system without a heart? An eye without a brain to interpret the signals? What good is a half-formed wing? Doesn?t matching male and female reproductive machinery need to exist at the same time, fully-functioning if any reproduction is to take place? Remember, natural selection has no foresight, and works to eliminate anything not providing an immediate benefit. The Second Law of Thermodynamics refers to the universal tendency for things, on their own, to ?mix? with their surrounding environment over time, becoming less ordered and eventually reaching a steady-state. A glass of hot water becomes room temperature, buildings decay into rubble, and the stars will eventually burn out leading to the ?heat death? of the universe. However, the evolutionary scenario proposes that over time things, on their own, became more ordered and structured. Somehow the energy of a ?Big Bang? structured itself into stars, galaxies, planets, and living things, contrary to the Second Law. It is sometimes said that the energy of the Sun was enough to overcome this tendency and allow for the formation of life on earth. However, application of energy alone is not enough to overcome this tendency; the energy must be channeled by a machine. A human must repair a building to keep it from decaying. Likewise, it is the machinery of photosynthesis which harnesses the energy of the Sun, allowing life to exist, and photosynthesis is itself a complex chemical process. The maturing of an acorn into a tree, or a zygote (the first cell resulting from fertilization) into a mature human being does not violate the Second Law as these processes are guided by the information already present in the acorn or zygote. the Universe By definition, something must be eternal (as we have ?something? today and something cannot come from ?nothing?, so there was never a time when there was ?nothing?). Either the univer (more...)

Voting Question: How can I upgrade from an ipod classic to an ipod touch?
Is there any way to upgrade from an Ipod Classic (latest generation) to the ipod touch? It's in perfectly good condition, and I have the Best Buy 3 year insurance on it, and its only a year and a half old. I used to have the nano, with the insurance. I got it wet and i told the best buy people that the battery stopped working. They said they could give me a new nano for free, but I asked if I could pay $100 to upgrade to the classic instead, and they let me! Do you think I could do that again? Of course, that may require me to purposely get my ipod wet. I also don't understand why the ipod classic is $250 and the ipod touch is $230. I really wish the touch was out when i bought my ipod =[ (more...)
