Open Question: UW College Questions?
I live in Alaska right now, i am a Junior and I have about a 3.8 GPA expecting a higher GPA by the end of 1st semester senior year. I want to attend University of Washington, in Washington State and I was wondering if i can become a residence staying in washington for 1 whole year not giong anywhere,as well as working part time jobs, without parents. Will that do??? or does anyone know the answer to this. Plus what scholarships are easy to get, and whats minimum to maximum requirement to get into UW surely??? Open Question: Graduation Requirements?
I'm now in my junior year and I moved from Alaska to Texas in July. The graduation requirements in AK are much different from the ones in TX. TX has a lot of different required classes, I was already planning on taking AP Euro and AP Psychology along with French 4, so I have no room in my schedule next school year. I want to be able to graduate with my class in 2010. Will I be able to exempt those classes and be able to graduate next year or do I have to take summer school? Sorry if my question isn't clear, i'm just panicking because I don't want to have to stay another year in high school when I should be in college in two years. Resolved Question: I am thinking about fighting wild fires as a summer job. Any suggestions?
Like I said, I want to fight fires this summer to help pay for college. I was thinking Alaska because I've always wanted to go there, but my friend said that Alaska is not the best place to go because there is not alot of fires. Does anybody know if this is true, and if so, where would you recommend to fight? Thanks for all of the great input so far. I know that it's a dangerous job, but it's one of those things that I have been interested in for a while. Just to let you know, I'm a firm believer that a little hard work never hurt anybody. Resolved Question: Can I get a loan for an out of state college for about 100,000?
I'm in need of advice! I want to major in air traffic control, but it is not available in my state! I really wanted to go to alaska to study ATC( 3rd best school for aviation technology). Can I get a loan to get out of new jersey and go to alaska to get my degree? Tuition would be almost $100,000 !!! I would need that full loan....now after looking at all this I have another few questions.. 1. Is it really worth it going to college for four years to make 70,000-136,000 annually ( after graduating) and have to pay a 100,000 loan?? 2. How long would I have to pay the loan off?!?!? 3. Hey I was wondering how much help you can get for going to college? I live in new jersey and plan to go to college in Anchorage, Alaska and major in air traffic control. I would be a non-resident so tuition would be 19,000. There's no way I would be able to pay for that.. Also I would live in a dorm adding even more money. All I would have is a part time job. Open Question: I need guidance. In my late 20's, non-traditional student needing to relocate and finish College.?
Skies the limit is what I have always been told! I currently live in NY state working two jobs without a degree and I'm ready for something different. I'm scared to start over but I feel the need to. I've been working towards a degree in Biology and Environmental Biology. What my heart really wants is something more focused in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. I've spent a huge amount of time looking at Colleges and Universities with these degree options and I have a good idea of my likes and dislikes for an area, but I just don't know what course of action is the best to take. Apply to a school first, then relocate? Relocate then find a school? I've been looking towards Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Alaska. If someone can offer up some advise, suggestions, words of encouragement, ANYTHING, so I can consider what way to put my best foot forward I would appreciate it very much!! (more...)

Im about to graduate from highschool and me and my boyfriend have been having "the talk" lately. You know the one where you discuss what's next. Colleges and moving in together and what not. Well we sort of have a dilemma. Both our families live in Alaska currently and his whole family wants to move back to North Carolina and my boyfriend wants to go with them and attend college there and get a place. But my family is staying up here and I want to attend college in California and live in California because i dont want to get too far from my home state where all my family is, and he wants me to move all the way across the country. It's not like we can just break up and go our seperate ways because we have been together for 3 years. I dont know what to do. I dont want to move there and be miserable and miss my family but i dont want him to have to feel that way either. Any thoughts? (more...)

Open Question: Advice: Cruise with guy friend and I have a boyfriend!?
My best guy friend of over five years is about to graduate college. For his graduation he has asked from his family for a cruise for 2 to Alaska this following summer. He has asked me to go on the cruise with him. Both of us are in relationships that are important to us but haven't been the greatest the last few months. We have a completely platonic relationship and just have fun hanging out together. He doesn't want his girlfriend to go because he knows he couldn't put up with her for a week or more, and it would ruin the cruise for him. I really want to go on the cruise with him to celebrate with him and of course for the experience. His girlfriend and my boyfriend are also not 21 yet, therefore they can not go on most cruise lines. My boyfriend and his girlfriend also understand the relationship that me and my guy friend have. I know to put myself in their shoes and believe that if the circumstances were the same and this was an experience for him that I could not participate in I would be ok with it. My parents believe the main issue here is trust and I know that doesn't need to be an issue between my guy friend and I. This is an awkward situation and I need some advice...any additional questions that need to be answered please ask! Thank you! (more...)
