Hello, I am an american with a normal B.S. degree looking for a school to pursue a masters degree in international relations (particularly war, terrorism, or the middle east) in England. I have to admit I'm definitely an anglophile and really want to study in England. My qualifications are good and GRE scores are good but I don't see myself as a Harvard/Cambridge type scholar. Those schools are probably a bit too demanding and full of pressure. I have done my own research on schools such as LSE, King's School of London, University of Bristol, University of Manchester, University of Salford etc. but I can only grasp so much from the fluff on their websites. I would really like to hear the locals point of view on a fitting school. Any area in England is welcome for myself. What I am looking for in the school apart from the academics as described above is: somewhat affordable cost of living, good social life and opportunity to meet people, pleasant welcoming city-especially to a non-local, and a good athletics union for football ( I played soccer in college at the highest level in usa and am absolutely mad about the sport). I appreciate any suggestions. I'm doing research myself but It would be great to hear some thoughts from the locals. Thanks! (more...)

I have a 3.61 g.p.a, plenty of friends, done well in athletics and the drama clubs and my parents still do not believe that I am ready for college. Recently I have written essays applying for DBU,TCU,UD, and UT Arlington. My parents told me that they would not be paying for any of these schools, and that I will be attending a two year school because they believe that I am not ready for college. I believe that I have done nothing but prove myself throughout my four years in high school, please can anyone give me advice on how to sway their opinion into a four year school. I've put up with them as they have put up with me for 18 years on the idea that they would pay for a 4 year school and now they aren't going to pay it. Trust me, their super rich. Any advice? I am a sophomore and i was on varsity football this year and next year i will make varsity lacrosse. My counselor told me that being on varsity sports in highschool is good for college apps, id this true? thanks for the help Also i have a 3.6 gpa (on a 4.0 scale) and im barely in the top half of my class. I go to a college prep school so its academics are very difficult and rigorous compared to public school.
