Threads of Honor: The True Story of a Boy Scout Troop, Perseverance, Triumph, and an American Flag Threads of Honor is a true story of courage and sacrifice, of Boy Scouts learning about perseverance, of the great men and women of the American space program, and of the unquenchable spirit of a most remarkable American flag.

The book’s rich appendix adds a 28-page history of the American Flag over its 230-year existence, including key events in American history that involved the flag. Following that is an authoritative section on flag care and proper flag etiquette, according to official guidelines adopted by the United States Congress. This appendix was not present in the first edition—only in the second edition.

There is a photo gallery documenting the incredible story of this flag, which is also new to the second edition and may not be present in used copies.

Resolved Question: Tips on a small town protest?
So I would like to stand outside my local Walmart and pass out this information. Along with some other information that tells more about this type of insurance employers can take out on the employees. Any good suggestions as far as creativity. I was just going to go pass them out at the door till ya know something happens like they tell me to leave. I probably will not leave because they have people from other places beg from money before you even get through the door. I do not want money just to pass this along. Friday, November 18, 2005 What Every American Needs to Know Excerpted, with permission, from James Hightower,"Thieves in High Places" The owners of one of America's premiere retail corporations is comprised of five of the ten richest people in the world, all from the same family. Their personal wealth eclipses $100 BILLION dollars. Last year the company's CEO was paid a cool $11.5 million, more than the annual salaries of 765 of his employees combined! The company's profits are over $7 BILLION annually. In these difficult economic times how do they do it? * This company runs ads featuring the United States flag and proclaims "We Buy American". In 2001 they moved their worldwide purchasing headquarters to China and are the largest importer of Chinese goods in the US, purchasing over $10 BILLION of Chinese-made products annually. Products made mostly by women and children working in the labor hell-holes China is famous for. * Their average employee working in the US makes $15,000 a year, $7.22 per hour! * These employees gross under $11,000 a year. * The company brags that 70% of their employees are full time, but fails to disclose that they count anyone working 28 hours a week or more as full time. * There are no health care benefits unless you have worked for the company for two years. * With a turnover rate averaging above 50% per year, only 38% of their 1.3 million employees have health care coverage. -In California alone it's estimated that the taxpayers pay over $20 million annually to subsidize health care benefits for these employees who get none from this behemoth corporation. * According to a report by PBS's "Now" with Bill Moyer, their managers are trained in what government social programs are available for these"employees" to take advantage of so that the company can pass on those costs to you and me. It allows them to not only keep their $7 BILLION in annual profits, but to do so by substituting benefits they refuse to provide with benefits paid for with taxpayer dollars. * This company holds the record for the most suits filed against it by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. A lawyer from "Business Week" (not exactly the bastion for supporting Labor) said, "I have never seen this kind of blatant disregard for the law." They had to pay $750,000.00 in Arizona for blatant discrimination against the disabled! The judge was so incensed that he also order them to run commercials admitting their guilt. * The National Labor Relations Board has issued over 40 formal complaints against the corporation in 25 different states in just the past five years. The NLRB's top lawyer believed that their labor violations, such as Illegal spying on employees, fraudulent record keeping, falsifying time cards to avoid paying overtime, threats, illegal firings for union organizing etc., were so widespread that he was looking into filing a very rare national complaint against the company. (The company contributed $2,159,330.00 to GW Bush and the GOP in 2000 and 2002. The NLRB attorney was replaced when President Bush took office.). * Nearly 1 MILLION women are involved in the largest class-action suit every filed against a corporation. Although women make up over 65% of this corporations work force only 10% of them are managers. The women who have become store managers make $16,400 a year LESS then the men. * The corporation took out nearly 350,000 life insurance policies on their employees. They did not tell the employees and then named the corporation as the beneficiary. They are now being sued by numerous employees, and although the corporation has stopped this practice of purchasing what is known as "Dead Peasant Policy's", a company spokesperson stated, "The company feels it acted properly and legally in doing this." * They force employees to work after ordering them to punch out. In Texas alone this practice of "wage theft" is estimated to have cost employees $30 million per year. Wage theft or "off-the-clock" lawsuits are pending in 25 states. In New Mexico they paid $400,000.00 in one suit and in Colorado they had to pay $50 MILLION to settle one class-action case brought against them. In Oregon a jury found them guilty of locking employees in the building and of forcing unpaid overtime. * With 4,400 stores they practice "predatory pricing." They come into a community and sell their goods at below cost until they drive local businesses under. Once they have cap (more...)

Voting Question: Why was the Colorado or U.S flag set to half mass 11-21-08?

Resolved Question: Why are republicans trying to steal this election whilst falsely trying to blame ACORN of Voter fraud?
We're hearing a lot about the trumped-up charges against ACORN these days?but very little about the massive voter suppression campaign being orchestrated by the Republicans. The GOP is trying to purge thousands of Democratic voters off the rolls in states like Ohio, Florida, and Colorado.1 John McCain and Sarah Palin are falsely accusing a community organizing group?ACORN?of voting fraud to distract the media from their own party's wrongdoing.2 Worst of all: It's working. The truth is, McCain is vilifying ACORN to justify voter suppression?making it harder for Obama supporters to vote. For over twenty-five years, Republicans have promoted the myth of voting fraud to argue for restrictive voting laws?but Bush's own Justice Department found virtually no organized voting fraud.3 Now McCain is attacking ACORN in order to justify a frenzy of lawsuits making it harder for Obama supporters to vote. Here's what he's not telling you: * The only fraud committed was against ACORN itself. ACORN hired 13,000 workers to register a remarkable 1.3 million new voters. And a few of them turned in registration forms with inaccurate and even made-up names to get credit for work they didn't do. ACORN fired them and turned them over to the authorities.4 * ACORN reported the fraudulent registration forms. In most states, ACORN is required by law to submit all forms collected whether they appear to be bogus or not?that way election officials, not partisan groups, can make the call. ACORN flags cards that may not be legitimate. And in many places, the charges of fraud only came up because ACORN was the one who flagged the cards!5 * This won't have any impact on the election. No one is allowed to vote unless they are properly registered. And there is no evidence of false registrations actually leading to organized voting fraud.6 We can't let false charges of voting fraud distract us from the very real voter suppression campaign that is already well under way. Republicans are looking for typos on voter registration forms, threatening to challenge homeowners facing foreclosure, and falsely warning that voters with outstanding traffic tickets may be arrested if they go to the polls.7 P.S. You can learn more about the false charges against ACORN by clicking here: http://acorn.org/quickfacts P.P.S. Republicans aren't just smearing ACORN?they're smearing Barack Obama, too, by sending around untrue emails about him. Have your friends or family ever forwarded you an email with false attacks on Obama? If so, be sure they know the truth. Forward the email to The Center for Political Accuracy, and they'll reply with the true facts for you to respond with: info@politicalaccuracy.org Sources: 1. Resolved Question: Do these people deserve to be thrown in jail more than ACORN?
1) Sheriff Gene Fischer has requested registration cards and address forms for all Greene County residents who voted in a special session established in Ohio allowing new voters to register and vote on the same day. The process was challenged in court by the GOP. The Ohio Supreme Court turned down that challenge, and allowed the same-day voting to proceed. But now Fischer claims telephone calls complaining about the potential for voter fraud have prompted him to go after the information. http://www.ohio.com/news/ap?articleID=926189&c=y 2) In Franklin County, election protection observers are reporting CONTINUING SURVEILLANCE BY REPUBLICANS at Veterans Memorial, the site for early voting. The observers have documented REPUBLICANS OPERATIVES TaKING PHOTOGRAPHS and WRITING DOWN LICENSE #'s OF VOTERS. http://www.npr.org/blogs/politics/2008/09/license_plates_monitored_at_oh.html 3) The New York Times has reported that boards of elections in at least nine crucial states, including Ohio, have violated federal law in conducting purges and have been illegally using Social Security data bases as part of those purges. The Times has also reported that boards of elections in Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio have illegally used federal Social Security databases to flag and possibly eliminate voters whose registration applications were suspected of irregularities. The Times reported some 37,000 Colorado voters removed in the three weeks after July 21; Secretary Coffman said the number was 14,000. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/09/us/politics/09voting.html?pagewanted=2&_r=2 4) Michigan elections director Christopher Thomas said his state had removed about 11,000 voters in August, while the Times estimated the real number to be closer to 33,000. Thomas refused to make the purged files public. Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land is a long-standing Republican partisan whose political activism traces back to the mid-70s when she worked for Gerald Ford's campaign in high school. Critics charge that she functions in the traditional of Florida's Katherine Harris and Ohio's J. Kenneth Blackwell. 5) North Carolina's BOE director Gary Bartlett dismissed concerns raised by the Social Security Administration about possible mis-used of SS files to purge registrations there in conjunction with drivers licenses. The SSI contends Social Security numbers can only be accessed when there is no drivers license or other form of state ID available. 6) A US PIRG report has revealed organized caging attempts by the GOP TO ELIMINATE REGISTERED VOTERS FROM THE ROLLS IN 19 states. The report marks one of the first initiated by a corporate news organization isolating Republican anti-vote campaigning. http://www.uspirg.org/newsroom/voting/voting-news/washington-d.c.-nineteen-states-not-enforcing-federal-laws-on-voter-lists =============== Compare to The grassroots organizing group ACORN has come under serious attack in Nevada, Missouri, Ohio and elsewhere from Republicans attempting to negate the thousands of generally low-income citizens ACORN has registered to vote. As a matter of law, ACORN is required to report irregular registrations that come through its process. But GOP operatives have equated these with "fraudulent" filings, and a have ramped up a smear and fear campaign aimed at negating thousands of legitimate ACORN registrants throughout the US. Resolved Question: Why can't Palin give a decent interview when she got her degree in COMMUNICATIONS?
I mean I know it took her 6 years to get her BACHELOR'S from the U of IDAHO. And she has no higher education than a bachelor's and no education in legislation which is highly unusual, but since she did major in COMMUNICATIONS. Why does she sound like a complete moron everytime she speaks and now they won't let her give any interviews because of it? I mean if that's her main education (communication) and yet she is terrible at it, how can anyone vote for a ticket with her just a heartbeat away from the presidency? Anyone? Here are some of my favorites with sources: ?I?ll try to find you some and I?ll bring them to you.? ?Sarah Palin, asked by Katie Couric to cite specific examples of how John McCain has pushed for more regulation in his 26 years in the Senate, CBS interview, Sept. 24, 2008 ?Well, it certainly does because our ? our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They?re in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia ? We have trade missions back and forth. We? we do? it?s very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where? where do they go? It?s Alaska. It?s just right over the border. It is? from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to? to our state.? ?Sarah Palin, asked by Katie Couric how Alaska?s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, CBS interview, Sept. 24, 2008 ?That?s exactly what we?re going to do in a Palin and McCain administration.? ?Sarah Palin, elevating herself to the top of the ticket, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sept. 18, 2008 ?I?m the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can?t.?? ?Sarah Palin, as quoted by former City Council Member Nick Carney, after he raised objections about the $50,000 she spent renovating the mayor?s office without approval of the city council ?I watched with the volume all the way down. I thought it was hilarious. I thought she was spot on. ? It was hilarious. Again, didn?t hear a word she said, but the visual, spot on.? ?Sarah Palin, on Tina Fey?s ?SNL? skit interview on FOX News?s ?Hannity & Colmes,? Sept. 17, 2008 ?Oil and coal? Of course, it?s a fungible commodity and they don?t flag, you know, the molecules, where it?s going and where it?s not. But in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So, I believe that what Congress is going to do, also, is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it?s Americans that get stuck to holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It?s got to flow into our domestic markets first.? ?Sarah Palin, billed by John McCain as the nation?s foremost expert on energy, clumsily answering a question while speaking off the cuff at a town hall meeting, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Sept. 17, 2008 ?The fact is that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.? ?Sarah Palin, on the two companies which are in fact private entities, Colorado Springs, CO, Sept. 13, 2008 ?They?re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.? ?Sarah Palin, on her foreign policy insights into Russia, ABC News interview, Sept. 11, 2008 ?Nucular.? ?Sarah Palin, mispronouncing the word ?nuclear? twice, ABC News interview, Sept. 11, 2008 ?Perhaps so.? ?Sarah Palin, when asked if we may need to go to war with Russia because of the Georgia crisis, ABC News interview, Sept. 11, 2008 ?I have not, and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you.? ?Sarah Palin, after being asked if she had never met a foreign head of state, despite the fact that every vice president in the last 32 years had met a foreign head of state prior to taking office, ABC News interview, Sept. 11, 2008 ?In what respect, Charlie?? ?Sarah Palin, after being asked if she agreed with the Bush Doctrine, ABC News interview, Sept. 11, 2008 ?Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that?s with the energy independence that I?ve been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.? ?Sarah Palin, misstating the actual amount of energy produced by Alaska, which is only 3.5 percent, Sept. 11, 2008 ?You?ll be there to defend the innocents from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the deaths of thousands of Americans.? ?Sarah Palin, linking the Iraq war the 9/11 attacks while addressing U.S. soldiers shipping off to Iraq, Fairbanks, Alaska, Sept. 11, 2008 ?I told the Congress, ?Thanks, but no thanks,? on that Bridge to Nowhere (more...)

Resolved Question: Did anyone see the photo of the flags that the DNC tossed in the garbage?
Ahttp://www.floppingaces.net/2008/09/06/democrats-trash-the-flag-at-denver-convention/ Apparently, Democrats see the flag only as a prop to be discarded when the event was over. The flags are on their way to a McCain Palin rally in Colorado Springs where the Boy Scouts and Veterans of Foreign Wars will distribute them to the GOP faithful. I wouldn't expect anymore from liberals. (more...)

Resolved Question: Patriotism Obama Style: Let's dump Old Glory in a Landfill?
Obama?s mentor, the unrepentant domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers had a picture taken where he was stomping on The Flag. http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/August-2001/No-Regrets/ The Denver post published a report about how the 12,000 flags would have been disposed off as unceremoniously as can be. http://www.allamericanblogger.com/3643/democrats-trash-12000-american-flags-republicans-recycle-them/ Republicans reported that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Before McCain spoke at an event, veterans hauled these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage ? with dramatic effect, no doubt ? and tell the story. U.S Federal Code, Title 8, Section 4 deals with respect for the flag, obviously Obama could care less about mundane stuff like this: (more...)

Resolved Question: Were patriotic Americans correct to rescue the 12,000 U.S. flags Democrats tossed in the garbage ?
According to the Times Union: September 7, 2008 In Colorado Springs, Colo., a radio personality emceeing an event for McCain and his vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced that veterans were going to give the crowd thousands of small American flags that were discarded and rescued from Obama's massive Democratic National Convention rally at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. The emcee, radio host Dan Caplis, told the estimated audience of 12,000 that the flags were going to be thrown away or burned, soliciting loud jeers. McCain supporters said the flags were found by a vendor at Invesco Field after the convention. The vendor allegedly found trash bags full of flags in and around garbage bins, recovered them and gave them to McCain's campaign. When McCain and Palin took the stage to a sea of waving flags, McCain proclaimed, "I love those flags." http://timesunion.com/ASPStories/Story.asp?StoryID=718443&LinkFrom=RSS (more...)
