Buffaloed: How Race, Gender and Media Bias Fueled a Season of Scandal
THIS IS THE BOOK YOU WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO READ!
This book was supposed to come out in the summer of 2005 but was delayed when two publishers caved in to perceived threats of legal action by one of the figures in this compelling and well-documented story. It is a story of issues steeped in gender and race in a beautiful Colorado city with a very dark side.
University of Colorado football players and coaches were accused of misdoingssome of them quite heinousand were effectively tried and convicted in the media. While the media ran amok with unsubstantiated allegations and failed to report the storys other side, the families of innocent football playersboth black and white were horrified that their children were being so quickly misjudged. Did the accusers realize the irreversible damage they were causing to innocent young men? Did they even care? And what about the media? Was it simply careless or sloppy reporting, or was there another agenda? Only one reporterthe authorhas looked for the answers to those questions.
Bruce Plasket is an award-winning journalist who covered many of the biggest stories of the past decade...the JonBenet Ramsey murder, the Columbine High School massacre, the Oklahoma City bombing case, the last execution held in the State of Colorado. But it was the one described in this bookthe supposed recruiting scandal involving the University of Colorado football programthat caused him to turn against the tide of political correctness in search of the truth. His story is one of bigotry and self-serving public officials whose agendas ruined the reputations of dozens of people associated with CUs football program.

From the supplier: Colorado's thriving hospitality trade is facing manpower shortages in virtually every job category. This has forced restaurants and hotels to set up creative recruitment and retention programs that have led to the introduction of fairly attractive wage and benefits programs.

Resolved Question: Why is this Ron Paul senior aide & Bob Barr aide pleading for Libertarians to vote McCain/Palin?
FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE, SOCIALLY TOLERANT, PRO-DEFENSE!
November 2, 2008
I have been a lifetime Libertarian Party activist, for over 25 years. I?ve served in numerous capacities, including on the Libertarian National Committee, as a Libertarian State Rep. candidate, and as Ron Paul?s Personal Travel Aide in his 1988 Libertarian Presidential campaign. I?ve also served as Ron Paul?s Congressional Campaign Coordinator and as his Senior Congressional Aide for 7 years, 1997-2004.
This election year, I?ve been supporting Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr. As a matter of fact, I?m the very guy who recruited his running mate Wayne Root into the race. Since the Spring, I?ve been the Party?s lead petitioner around the Nation. I?ve collected tens of thousands of signatures to get Barr/Root on the ballot in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine and Rhode Island.
However, I was greatly encouraged by McCain?s pick of Sarah Palin for his VP. Palin has a solid libertarian background. In 2005/06 she was the guest speaker at two Libertarian Party meetings in Anchorage. She
Up until now, I?ve encouraged my fellow Libertarians to follow their conscience and vote for either McCain/Palin or for Barr/Root, if it suits them better.
I now believe, two days before Election Day, that this campaign is just too critical to risk on such a strategy, and if Libertarians won?t put the liberty of our country ahead of our party ambitions, who else in this country will?
Obama is fundamentally opposed to virtually all libertarian stances on all issues. From taxes, to freedom of speech, to protecting property rights, to putting a halt to the ever-encroaching Nanny-state, and 4 years of an Obama Presidency will have disastrous results for liberty, and supporters of the limited government view.
As evidence of this, Obama has taken to lodge a full frontal assault on the libertarian movement within the last couple days. In two separate speeches Obama accused McCain/Palin of supporting tax cuts because they believed in the ?Virtue of Selfishness." ABC News confirmed that the phrase was most likely a direct hit at libertarian icon Philosopher Ayn Rand.
By attacking Individualist philosophy, in essence, Obama has declared war on libertarians and the libertarian movement in these closing days of Election ?08.
How should libertarians respond?
It is now my strong feeling that libertarians nationwide, and most assuredly my fellow Libertarian Party members, should strongly consider casting their votes for Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin.
The libertarian movement would be best served with an Obama defeat.
Bob Barr has been polling around 1 to 1.5% in recent polls. A Research 2000/Daily Kos poll released just Friday, had Barr at a full 2%. That is more than enough to cause McCain/Palin to go down to defeat. As we all know, a good 90% of Libertarian votes come directly out of the GOP column.
I urge my Libertarian friends, especially those in ?swing states? to shift these final days to McCain/Palin. Those States that are especially critical include: New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.
McCain/Palin lead Obama/Biden in the latest poll out of Wyoming with 68% to 32%. A Libertarian vote cast for Barr/Root in Wyoming, or even Utah, Idaho, Alabama, Kansas, and my native Texas, would not cause any harm. But Libertarians in the critical swing states must now weigh their vote very seriously and with great caution.
Do we want a guarantee of tax increases for virtually all taxpayers, more federalization of education, more pork barrel spending, and continuation of affirmative action quotas, a return of the so-called Fairness Doctrine intended to silence the voice of libertarians and conservatives across the nation? Or, do we want a friendly ear in a confirmed Libertarian Party friend and ally in the office of the Vice-Presidency of the United States.
For these reasons, I am voting for McCain/Palin on Tuesday and I urge all of my Libertarian friends to do the same.
Our party has made great gains and that is important. Nobody in the libertarian movement has worked harder than I have to assure those gains.
But at this moment in history, we must stand with our conservative friends, against a massive affront upon liberty and freedom itself. I call upon all freedom loving libertarians to consider this situation carefully and stand with me!

Resolved Question: Repayment of bonus and moving expenses.?
A company recruited me from Colorado to Maryland. The companies headquarters are in Florida and the contract was coming from corporate. They recruited me with a 10k sign up bonus and moved me. The contract says I have to stay a year. When I showed up for the job they put me on a project where I had no experience in and I have a long resume. I was absolutely miserable. I have a company interested in me and I don't want to pay the company back. I realize I should have asked more questions. What are my options?

Resolved Question: USC football: cheating their way to #1?
Yes, the Trojans are by far the best team in college football this year. But, USC is also the best at something else...cheating. Consider these facts:
-Known agents given access to the USC locker room and on the sidelines of their practices. There, the agents were given free range to meet with players and recruits...relationships that would end in seeing at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts given to the players and/or their families
-Barry Bonds' former doctor is the father of two former USC players, one of whom tested positive for steroids.
-USC head coach Pete Carroll recruited Colorado State lineman Frostee Rucker after he was kicked out of CSU for sexually assaulting a young woman and indecent exposure. It has been exposed that Rucker sexually assaulted another girl, while at USC, in August of 2005. The truly shocking part of this is he did not miss one single game at USC.
-Mark Sanchez, the current USC quarterback was also arrested for sexual assault on April 27, 2006. He obviously has not suffered because of it.
-Heisman trophy winning tailback Reggie Bush is currently under investigation for receiving numerous cash payments, personal trips, clothing, cars and car repairs, and living accommodations to both him and his family by a marketing director, who claims they were just personal loans...but it hardly matters because players or their family members receiving personal loans from agents or marketers is an NCAA violation as well.
Yes USC football is the best this year, at cheating as well as playing.
What? You say it doesn't matter? Why not?
Kevin H: Check the rules, genius. ALL OF THOSE WERE VIOLATIONS!
NCAA just reinstated USC wideout Dwayne Jarrett this afternoon, even though they determined he received $18,000 in free rent from an athletic program supporter. Yet he is not going to miss a single game. Yes, another violation of the rules.
bigjohn: You again? Hey, I've always wondered something: When you're living in utter pathetic denial of reality, which you clearly are...do you know it?

What? You say it doesn't matter? Why not?
I'm a Texas Longhorns fan...you know, the ones who beat USC in the Orange Bowl!
Whoops...that should be Rose Bowl! Oh, and they won!
To all the idiots who say that the sexual assault charges don't mean anything...what if it was your daughter or girlfriend?..you useless f*cking, bandwagon riding, "anything-we-do-is-o.k.-as-long-as-we-win" and "hey-everybody-else-does-it-so-why-not-us" worthless, grass munching sheep!

Resolved Question: Should licensed gun owner college students be allowed to carry guns in school/universities?
A group of Colorado Springs college students want to be allowed to arm themselves against campus attacks by gunmen.
About a dozen students at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs have joined a national group called Students for Concealed Carry on Campus that says they've recruited 25,000 members around the country in the last year. The spike in membership comes in the wake of deadly shootings at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University.
Thirty-year-old University of Colorado at Colorado Springs senior John Davis is organizing students to participate in a national demonstration on April 22-25 to lobby school administrators and lawmakers to allow concealed guns with a permit in classrooms.

Resolved Question: Is there any truth with this newspaper editorial and Immigration ?
Immigration policy is 'udderly' unworkable
By Birch Faber and Brad Hash
The Idaho Dairymen's Association recently launched a new effort to promote immigration reform, the Times-News reported Feb. 21. "Immigration reform is important to the economy of Idaho and the United States," an association official told the newspaper. "Our goal is to protect the borders but also to promote responsible immigration reform."
This effort by the dairymen is one more example of how states, communities and industries throughout the Rocky Mountain West are forced by economic necessity to assert leadership in the nation's dysfunctional immigration system.
The failure of the federal government to create a realistic pathway to permanent residence - or even to develop a functional guest worker system - has left many Western businesses struggling to adequately staff their operations. The dairymen's association in December hired a prominent immigration lawyer and formed a business coalition to "push for stable immigration policy on a national level." It was just a month earlier that Border Patrol agents arrested more than 100 illegal immigrants in the Twin Falls area. Many businesses, especially those in agriculture and the booming construction sector, rely heavily on immigrant labor. Among those laborers are 20,000 to 35,000 undocumented workers in Idaho, according to estimates from the Pew Hispanic Center.
Illegal immigration is a serious problem. But it's just one symptom of the real malady - an immigration policy that doesn't serve our nation's needs and threatens to undermine prosperity in the West.
Idaho's dairymen are not alone in their desire for reform. For example, ranchers in Colorado who depend on seasonal guest workers are shorthanded because permits for would-be employees are frequently delayed, denied or unavailable due to unrealistically small annual quotas. In order to combat the labor scarcity, Colorado lawmakers have proposed the creation of an office in Mexico to recruit guest workers, a policy that would challenge the federal leadership our immigration law anticipates.
Arizona is also coping with a severe labor shortage and is considering its own temporary worker program. These efforts are examples of states forced to patch problems that the federal government fails to resolve.
Job growth throughout most of the Rockies has for years exceeded the ability to fill them with American-born workers. Our region's economic prosperity rides on the availability of workers. Federal law, however, makes lawful immigration virtually impossible for many of the workers we need.
The United States allows a mere 10,000 people with "essential skills" to obtain work visas yearly - a tiny fraction needed to fill the jobs waiting for people with those skills. Legitimate businesses run great risks as they attempt to operate on the receiving end of failed immigration policy.
Existing immigration law also makes no provision for most of the undocumented workers in our region to obtain work visas. They're here illegally because there's no legal way for them to take the opportunities our economy offers.
As willing workers are increasingly denied access to vacant U.S. jobs, significant losses for businesses are mounting throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The current system forces industries and states to pursue stop-gap remedies. But the solution isn't to add special exemptions for particular industries like agriculture - we've already done too much of that and the results have contributed to the present quagmire. The solution is to comprehensively fix our broken system of immigration so that the best way to immigrate to America is to do so legally and so employers can count on legal immigrants to fill jobs for which there are no native-born workers.
Birch Faber and Brad Hash are research assistants for Western Progress, a Missoula, Mont., nonpartisan policy institute focused on the Rocky Mountain West.
