Open Question: 2006 chevy colorado tranny question?
I recently bought a 2006 chevy colorado z71 with the I-5 engine. My question is that is seems like it is running ok and it only has 45000 miles on it but it just seems like it takes the tranny forever to shift into overdrive? like when I get in it to go to work in the morning it takes about 2 miles of steady 65mph to get in overdrive, but once it goes in once it goes in just fine until i let it sit and get cold again. So is this just common of a chevy tranny, i have never owned a chevy before so i can't compare (more...)

Resolved Question: How does east coast skiing compare to out west?

Resolved Question: A good cheap wine compared to Charles Shaw?
I live in Colorado and we do not have a Trader Joe's here, so we don't have Charles Shaw wine. Can anyone recommend a good tasting cheap wine that has a little kick to it, but not too much where a few glasses of wine are going to put my lights out and hand me a killer hangover. (more...)

Resolved Question: What do you know that these people don't ?
Khabibullo Abdusamatov, mathematician and astronomer at Pulkovskaya Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences: "Global warming results not from the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but from an unusually high level of solar radiation and a lengthy - almost throughout the last century - growth in its intensity...Ascribing 'greenhouse' effect properties to the Earth's atmosphere is not scientifically substantiated...Heated greenhouse gases, which become lighter as a result of expansion, ascend to the atmosphere only to give the absorbed heat away."[13][14][15] Sallie Baliunas, astronomer, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics: "[T]he recent warming trend in the surface temperature record cannot be caused by the increase of human-made greenhouse gases in the air."[16] Reid Bryson, deceased, former emeritus professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison: "It?s absurd. Of course it?s going up. It has gone up since the early 1800s, before the Industrial Revolution, because we?re coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we?re putting more carbon dioxide into the air."[17] George V. Chilingar, Professor of Civil and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Southern California: "The authors identify and describe the following global forces of nature driving the Earth?s climate: (1) solar radiation ..., (2) outgassing as a major supplier of gases to the World Ocean and the atmosphere, and, possibly, (3) microbial activities ... . The writers provide quantitative estimates of the scope and extent of their corresponding effects on the Earth?s climate [and] show that the human-induced climatic changes are negligible."[18] Ian Clark, hydrogeologist, professor, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa: "That portion of the scientific community that attributes climate warming to CO2 relies on the hypothesis that increasing CO2, which is in fact a minor greenhouse gas, triggers a much larger water vapour response to warm the atmosphere. This mechanism has never been tested scientifically beyond the mathematical models that predict extensive warming, and are confounded by the complexity of cloud formation - which has a cooling effect. ... We know that [the sun] was responsible for climate change in the past, and so is clearly going to play the lead role in present and future climate change. And interestingly... solar activity has recently begun a downward cycle."[19] David Douglass, solid-state physicist, professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester: "The observed pattern of warming, comparing surface and atmospheric temperature trends, does not show the characteristic fingerprint associated with greenhouse warming. The inescapable conclusion is that the human contribution is not significant and that observed increases in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases make only a negligible contribution to climate warming."[20] Don Easterbrook, emeritus professor of geology, Western Washington University: "global warming since 1900 could well have happened without any effect of CO2. If the cycles continue as in the past, the current warm cycle should end soon and global temperatures should cool slightly until about 2035"[21] William M. Gray, Professor Emeritus and head of The Tropical Meteorology Project, Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University: "This small warming is likely a result of the natural alterations in global ocean currents which are driven by ocean salinity variations. Ocean circulation variations are as yet little understood. Human kind has little or nothing to do with the recent temperature changes. We are not that influential."[22] "I am of the opinion that [global warming] is one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on the American people."[23] "So many people have a vested interest in this global-warming thing?all these big labs and research and stuff. The idea is to frighten the public, to get money to study it more."[24] William Kininmonth, meteorologist, former Australian delegate to World Meteorological Organization Commission for Climatology: "There has been a real climate change over the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries that can be attributed to natural phenomena. Natural variability of the climate system has been underestimated by IPCC and has, to now, dominated human influences."[25] George Kukla, retired Professor of Climatology at Columbia University and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, said in an interview: "What I think is this: Man is responsible for a PART of global warming. MOST of it is still natural."[26] David Legates, associate professor of geography and director of the Center for Climatic Research, University of Delaware: "About half of the warming during the 20th century occurred prior to the 1940s, and natural variability accounts for all or nearly all of the warming."[27] Marcel Leroux, former Professor of Climatology, Université Jean M Science advances through hypotheses based on a set of assumptions. Other scientists challenge and test those assumptions in what philosopher Karl Popper called the practice of 'falsibility.' Trying to disprove hypothesis is what real science is all about. Yet the hypothesis that human addition of CO2 would lead to significantly enhanced greenhouse warming was quickly accepted without this normal scientific challenge. As Dr. Richard S. Lindzen, Professor of Meteorology in MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences said, the consensus was reached before the research had even begun. Adherents to the hypothesis began defending the increasingly indefensible by launching personal attacks, essentially trying to frighten scientific opponents into silence. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously. A compiled list of all the sources can be seen here. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to wipe out most of the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year's time. For all four sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down. This was for 2007 and when the 2008 mean temp came out it was down again. I would like to see the names of all the pro global warming scientist that belive it is caused by humans. CARBON DIOXIDE MAKES UP 0.037% OF THE EARTHS ATMOSPHERES AND YET YOU DISMISS WATER VAPOR LIKE IT MEANS NOTHING TO THE ATMOSPHERE. LOOK UP THE PERCENTAGES YOUR SELF, IT IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Resolved Question: Would Canadians trade Alberta for California or not?
This is the perfect fix because Alberta is way Conservative politically compared to the rest of Canada. And California is way Liberal politically compared to the rest of USA. Both California and Alberta have breathtaking picturesque scenic places that are out of this world. California has vineyards, Yosemite, sierra mountains, breathtaking PAcific Coast highway, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Desert, redwood forests, top universities, it is a paradise and it is quite Liberal more like Canada. Alberta has badlands, cowboys, Calgary, oil, Canadian Rockies, Banff Springs, JAsper, Fort McMurray, Francophones, and lots of hunting. So Alberta is like a mild version of Texas + Colorado + Kansas, more consistent with American right-wing-ism. So would Canada trade Alberta for California? or not? It's not that big a deal, you can build a road from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan that goes up through the territories and makes an upside-down U and curves back into British Columbia to get around the USA state of Alberta without going through it. Oh but the oil money. The USA will give Canada 100% of all oil extracted from the state of Alberta free and sign a contract not to sell any of it to anyone commercially. It also makes sense for another reason! Alberta sticking out as USA land between Sask and BC is like Southern Ontario sticking out between New York and Michigan. Alaska disconnected to the rest of the states attached to Canada would be like California disconnected from the rest of Canada attached to USA. AHA!!!! California scenery is out of this world. I'm surprised nobody is standing up for Alberta's prairie heritage and its priceless resources and the CPR and geological significance. I'm surprised nobody so far has said this "Both California and Alberta are uncomparably different lands with meanings most known to their respective local inhabitants. So it's not just about land and money, it's about culture, history, and people, which I'm failing to take seriously, and therefore I'm neglecting TREMENDOUS complications that even 100 trillion dollars can't settle." Resolved Question: Suing for a misdiagnosed stroke in Colorado...?
One Saturday afternoon, my husband and I were at a friends place to help them move scrap metal from their farm. I am about 10 weeks pregnant and unable to help with this, so I was waiting with my husband to see how they wanted it loaded. Suddenly, my husband got an intense headache, couldn't see, couldn't walk (especially with his left side), could hardly speak, and fell to his knees. Our friend helped my husband (we'll call my hubby "B") to the car and we immediately drove to the nearest hospital. Upon arrival (B being carried in by our friend) B was asked if he was on any drugs. I understand that this is common practice, but they kept accusing him of doing drugs repeatedly. Soon after, B gets sick (and me with morning sickness began to get sick myself.) The nurse yells at me telling me I need to go sit in the waiting room because she doesn't need two sick people there. I told her I was pregnant and ignored her as I walked into the room. The doctor then came in the room, asked a couple of questions, and then with no tests or anything, the doctor told him it was just a migraine and doped him up with a TON of drugs, such as a muscle relaxant, a migraine medication, an anti-histamine, a pain killer, and several others. We left and I was able to get him home and to bed as quickly as I could. The next day, Sunday, we stayed home and just tried to relax. However, B was still having trouble walking and using his left side. We have no medical education and thought that maybe this could be what was left over from all the drugs he was given. So, we ignored it for the time being. The next day, B was unsure if he could drive, so he had me take him to work. Since this was a fair ways away, I just waited around town for him. About an hour or two after he got to work, I get a call from B telling me that something isn't right and that he needed to go to the hospital. Thankfully, this was a different hospital. The second he got into the ER, he was told it sounded like a neurological problem and ordered a cat scan immediately. Sure enough, B had had a stroke that weekend. We spent three days and two nights in the hospital. Everyone was amazing at the second hospital and treated both me and my husband with every kind of care that should be shown by the hospital. As well, while we were there, we were given literature strokes, and B was showing every single sign of having a stroke when he walked into the first hospital. Now B is still having trouble with his fine motor skills in his left hand and when he is tired, he can hardly walk on his left leg. Do we have any grounds to sue the first hospital or their doctor? Not only do we have the proof they misdiagnosed the stroke, but we also have witnesses of our friends who heard them yell at me and kept accusing my husband of doing drugs. This whole thing has gotten me stressed out beyond compare and I am worried about the effect of this stress on our baby. As well, does anyone know a lawyer in the Denver area we could talk to? I am really desperate and need some advice regarding what to do. (more...)

Resolved Question: Bathrooms in Community College?
In some places are transgender individuals allowed to go to the bathroom that they present as pre-operation? I know that, and can confirm, a community college around where I live allows transgender individuals to go to the bathroom they present as. I was curious if anyone knew any community colleges, colleges, or areas that does this. It's new to me compared to my high school. However it's good news. I'm just trying to find out if it's true for the community college I want to go to. Anyone in the area of Colorado with information concerning this would be appreciated. Thanks! (more...)

Resolved Question: Why do some states provide 85 octane gas?
I was in Colorado, and I saw gas stations serving 85 octane gas, along with 87 and 89. Also, I know that the altitude is around 5000 ft, compared to 1000 where I'm from. So, my guess is altitude, and pressure. Right? (more...)

Voting Question: I want to go to a warmer college?
Right now I attend University of Illinois at Chicago, this is a very science oriented univeristy and I major in Electrical Engineering, my gpa is roughley 3.0, I got a 30 on my ACT and I will finish up my sophmore year may 2009. Currently im a little depressed of this midwest weather, at one point in my life I lived in Colorado Springs and it was heaven on earth compared to Chicagos weather. I love this city and all, and i'm not against populated areas I just really wish the weather wasn't so gloomy it depresses me, compared to how I feel when the sun is shining. If anyone can give me a solid school with a good engineering program, in a city or town that is not crime ridden(Orlando, miami, etc) that would be awesome. Now i'll put up a list of things that would make it spectacular -not a low income area -tuition per year including board under 25k not including board under 20k -obviously it can't be too elite, because I'd like to get accepted -Not necesary but a solid plus if it is by an ocean -friendly area, with nice people which considering the weather they live in shouldn't be too hard -also I don't like small schools, I love meeting new people so if its small then it should be in a higher populated area Oh an I know im specific but im hoping maybe a college kid comes along an says oh hey thats my school an tells me about it, thanks alot in advance people! - (more...)

Resolved Question: What is Civilian National Security Force to you?
?We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we?ve set. We?ve got to have a civilian national security force that?s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.? - Barack Obama July 2, 2008 @ Colorado Springs. What is it? A well funded, to rival the military, mandatory volunteer (these two words contradict each other) organization targeted at the youth of America to be more active in the community? If it was something as simple and as harmless as Peace Corps or Red Cross then why use ?security force? in the name? I think it is one of those misspeaks like his ?spread the wealth? comment that the truth slips out. For those who think that the intentions are harmless lets break down each word with its meaning: Civilian- a person who is not active in the military, law enforcement agencies or fire fighting agencies. National- belonging to or maintained by federal government (adj)/one that owes allegiance to or is under the protection of a nation without regard to the status of citizen (noun) Security- measures taken to guard against espionage or sabotage, crime, attack, or escape Force- military strength/ an individual or group having the power of effective action/ a body of persons or things available for a particular end. Based on the above definitions we are looking at an organization formed by citizens who are obligated to and controlled by the federal government which will be just as powerful as the military with the objective of protecting America against perceived threats whether it is foreign or domestic. I thought we already had Homeland Security, FBI and CIA which serve this purpose already. Why do we need something else? Who would determine what is a threat? Under this new force would a threat be considered anyone who speaks out against the government or the president? Much to think about. It may not seem like nothing now compared to the economy but I assure you that it is a big deal to the freedoms we hold dear. (more...)
