Open Question: A question for current / former CU students?
For anyone who has gone to the University of Colorado at Boulder, I need some help choosing a dorm to register for. Any thoughts? I was hoping for a mid-sized dorm hall (staying in a double or triple room). I need something that's close to the Department of Political Sciences, etc. Suggestions? (I was thinking about Ferrund) BTW, I'm a cadet in army ROTC so I'd like to have quick access to their offices and classrooms. (more...)

Resolved Question: What do you know that these people don't ?
Khabibullo Abdusamatov, mathematician and astronomer at Pulkovskaya Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences: "Global warming results not from the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but from an unusually high level of solar radiation and a lengthy - almost throughout the last century - growth in its intensity...Ascribing 'greenhouse' effect properties to the Earth's atmosphere is not scientifically substantiated...Heated greenhouse gases, which become lighter as a result of expansion, ascend to the atmosphere only to give the absorbed heat away."[13][14][15] Sallie Baliunas, astronomer, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics: "[T]he recent warming trend in the surface temperature record cannot be caused by the increase of human-made greenhouse gases in the air."[16] Reid Bryson, deceased, former emeritus professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison: "It?s absurd. Of course it?s going up. It has gone up since the early 1800s, before the Industrial Revolution, because we?re coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we?re putting more carbon dioxide into the air."[17] George V. Chilingar, Professor of Civil and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Southern California: "The authors identify and describe the following global forces of nature driving the Earth?s climate: (1) solar radiation ..., (2) outgassing as a major supplier of gases to the World Ocean and the atmosphere, and, possibly, (3) microbial activities ... . The writers provide quantitative estimates of the scope and extent of their corresponding effects on the Earth?s climate [and] show that the human-induced climatic changes are negligible."[18] Ian Clark, hydrogeologist, professor, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa: "That portion of the scientific community that attributes climate warming to CO2 relies on the hypothesis that increasing CO2, which is in fact a minor greenhouse gas, triggers a much larger water vapour response to warm the atmosphere. This mechanism has never been tested scientifically beyond the mathematical models that predict extensive warming, and are confounded by the complexity of cloud formation - which has a cooling effect. ... We know that [the sun] was responsible for climate change in the past, and so is clearly going to play the lead role in present and future climate change. And interestingly... solar activity has recently begun a downward cycle."[19] David Douglass, solid-state physicist, professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester: "The observed pattern of warming, comparing surface and atmospheric temperature trends, does not show the characteristic fingerprint associated with greenhouse warming. The inescapable conclusion is that the human contribution is not significant and that observed increases in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases make only a negligible contribution to climate warming."[20] Don Easterbrook, emeritus professor of geology, Western Washington University: "global warming since 1900 could well have happened without any effect of CO2. If the cycles continue as in the past, the current warm cycle should end soon and global temperatures should cool slightly until about 2035"[21] William M. Gray, Professor Emeritus and head of The Tropical Meteorology Project, Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University: "This small warming is likely a result of the natural alterations in global ocean currents which are driven by ocean salinity variations. Ocean circulation variations are as yet little understood. Human kind has little or nothing to do with the recent temperature changes. We are not that influential."[22] "I am of the opinion that [global warming] is one of the greatest hoaxes ever perpetrated on the American people."[23] "So many people have a vested interest in this global-warming thing?all these big labs and research and stuff. The idea is to frighten the public, to get money to study it more."[24] William Kininmonth, meteorologist, former Australian delegate to World Meteorological Organization Commission for Climatology: "There has been a real climate change over the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries that can be attributed to natural phenomena. Natural variability of the climate system has been underestimated by IPCC and has, to now, dominated human influences."[25] George Kukla, retired Professor of Climatology at Columbia University and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, said in an interview: "What I think is this: Man is responsible for a PART of global warming. MOST of it is still natural."[26] David Legates, associate professor of geography and director of the Center for Climatic Research, University of Delaware: "About half of the warming during the 20th century occurred prior to the 1940s, and natural variability accounts for all or nearly all of the warming."[27] Marcel Leroux, former Professor of Climatology, Université Jean M Science advances through hypotheses based on a set of assumptions. Other scientists challenge and test those assumptions in what philosopher Karl Popper called the practice of 'falsibility.' Trying to disprove hypothesis is what real science is all about. Yet the hypothesis that human addition of CO2 would lead to significantly enhanced greenhouse warming was quickly accepted without this normal scientific challenge. As Dr. Richard S. Lindzen, Professor of Meteorology in MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences said, the consensus was reached before the research had even begun. Adherents to the hypothesis began defending the increasingly indefensible by launching personal attacks, essentially trying to frighten scientific opponents into silence. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously. A compiled list of all the sources can be seen here. The total amount of cooling ranges from 0.65C up to 0.75C -- a value large enough to wipe out most of the warming recorded over the past 100 years. All in one year's time. For all four sources, it's the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down. This was for 2007 and when the 2008 mean temp came out it was down again. I would like to see the names of all the pro global warming scientist that belive it is caused by humans. CARBON DIOXIDE MAKES UP 0.037% OF THE EARTHS ATMOSPHERES AND YET YOU DISMISS WATER VAPOR LIKE IT MEANS NOTHING TO THE ATMOSPHERE. LOOK UP THE PERCENTAGES YOUR SELF, IT IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Resolved Question: Where are people getting the idea that Illinois is the Most corrupt state in Politics?
In the U.S., the top five most corrupt states are Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, and Ohio, (based on U.S. Department of Justice data on public convictions 2007). Illinois may be 6 or 7. But it is certainly not THE MOST corrupt. 1. Louisiana(7.67) 2. Mississippi (6.66) 3. Kentucky (5.18) 4. Alabama (4.76) 5. Ohio(4.69) 6. Illinois (4.68) 7. Pennsylvania (4.55) 8. Florida (4.47) 9. New Jersey (4.32) 10. New York (3.95) 11. Tennessee (3.68) 12. Virginia (3.64) 13. Oklahoma (2.96) 14. Connecticut (2.80) 15. Missouri (2.79) 16. Arkansas (2.74) 17. Massachusetts (2.66) 18. Edit: I meant Illinois mat be 6 or 7 now.. Becca, my eyes are wide open. Corruption is everywhere, worst in other states actually. I don't think we should be singling out 1 state. And might I add that there was enough corruption in the white house to put Chicago to shame. My opinion. I question the timing as well.. Resolved Question: Question for any current or former U.S. Army guys stationed at Fort Carson, CO.?
Just curious if any of you guys out there that may have been stationed at Fort Carson, CO found the town to be lacking in the single women department. I moved out here after getting out of the Marine Corps back in 2005 to take a job in manufacturing (semi-conductor industry) and found the city of Colorado Springs to be full of nothing but married women and families. I figured that with a city of roughly 400K that there would be at least a few single 20 somethings out there but apparently I'm wrong. Any input??? (more...)

Voting Question: Regarding Vehicle sales (NV)?
My fiance and I recently bought a used car from a dealership in Reno, Nevada. When we went in early in November, we informed our sales people of the following: 1) we would be moving to Colorado after Thanksgiving 2) My fiance does not receive check stubs from his work, they just direct deposit is checks. All we could provide were copies of the bank statements that clearly showed dates, amounts, and source of the payroll deposits. We traded in our Saturn, they approved us for our Liberty and we walked out the door. Then they hounded us for 2 weeks about the check stubs for my fiance, which we repeatedly told them a) that we do not have, and b) they need to contact his work directly if the bank needs them. Two days ago we were contacted by somebody in the financial department who informed us that due to an unacceptable delay in filing with the bank, Wells Fargo had to deny our loan, and the car would be repossessed. We said "fine, bring us our Saturn back." The car was repossessed today from here in Colorado, but no sign of the Saturn. I called one of our original salesmen and asked him when they plan on delivering my car. He subsequently tried to blame US for the ordeal because we "failed to provide check stubs." I told him "No, you let us walk out the door with full knowledge that we were going to be in Colorado, and that he has no check stubs. I want to know when my car is going to be delivered to us in Colorado. That or a check for the trade-in value, I don't care which." I do not believe they will concede to ship my car to me in Colorado. Is there any leverage from a legal standpoint that I might be able to use? I should mention that my fiance did contact his employer (Westwood College Online) and authorized them to provide Wells Fargo Auto Finance with any information they needed regarding his payroll. Due to the move and the holiday, it was unlikely that anything would reach him by mail in time for us to take to the dealership. (more...)
