Open Question: Why do i owe the IRS money?
I am finally getting around to filling my 06 returns(i did file an extension). The family wants to claim and blah blah blah so i need to get it done before they do theirs so i can claim myself. Anyways. Im am filling out the 1040 ez because well its easy. Side question i did spend like 600 bucks in tuituion that year but im not sure if it is worth the extra hassle to do the 1040a any suggestions? Back to the point. my adjusted gross income (line 4) was 6320.67. line 5 if no one can claim you enter 8450.00 if single Subtract line 5 from line 4. If line 5 is larger than line 4, enter -0-. This is your taxable income. so i enter 0. taxes withheld (line 7) were 304.25 i have nothing for the other lines so line 10 is 304.25 (line 11) Tax. This is the amount you owe. line 10 - line 11 = 7245.75 there is no way i should owe money! let alone more money than i even made! am i doing something wrong here?!! (more...)

Open Question: Should I go to Prom or should I let it pass?
Okay I attend a catholic all boy high school. I know what your thinking, "How in the heck does this school host a prom with all boy school?" lol its simple, we bring dates from outside. the conflict is that..I have broken up with a girl a year ago..(my junior year). Ever since I never really payed attention to dating..(You know college is around the corner and all^_^) any way.. as you all know prom is quite expensive... I know its a one in a life time experience.. the thing is..I don't know any girls who I would want to spend that much money on..but I can find girls easily just for the sake of prom. Some of my friends told me to wait till college to date girls, according to them..whats the point in wasting the money on a girl who you only going to chill with for one night...I'm pretty sure I won't be seeing the girl I went prom with after entering college. Some say its quite an experience... like some of my friends who were in college told me to go.... (most of the guys in my all boy school lost their virginity on the prom night..lol..which I find very amusing and silly). any way what do you guys think!!!!! plzz its really important...be serious and any tip would be nice!=] (more...)

Open Question: Christians, is this biblical saying, " Once saved always saved"?
is this biblical saying, " Once saved always saved"? do you know who started using this on the radio? Let me answer this one for you as well. Read it and Learn from It. PLEASE DON'T DELETE. http://www.davidmacd.com/catholic/born_again_catholics.htm Once saved always saved? The great Evangelical minister Charles Stanley, the founder of "In Touch" Ministries, whose daily radio show is heard by millions said: You say you know you're saved, well that's not enough. (CHRI Radio, broadcast July 24, 2007) We don't think it is biblical to say "once saved always saved." Catholics would say that God gave us free will and that even after we are authentically "born again," we can always choose to sin. An example of this is the number of "born again" Christian men who have struggled with pornography, including the great Evangelical gospel performer, Kirk Franklin (who is thankfully in recovery). We believe we can damage or break the bond with Christ even after we have had an authentic "born again" experience. Paul was totally "born again," yet he said "Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel" (1 Cor 9:16) When the Bible says "woe to ..." it means that there is grave danger, including hell. (Mat 11:21, 18:7, 23:13-16, 23-29, 24:19, 26:24, Mk 14:2, Lk 6:24-26, 10:13, 11:42-52, 17:1, 21:23, 22:22, Jud 1:11, Rev 8:13, 9:12, 11:14, 12:12) Paul is saying that he must not only believe in the Lord Jesus but he must also do the will of Jesus, which was to preach the Gospel. He is saying that if he did not do that, he would be breaking his relationship to Jesus and risk going to hell. Not everyone who says to me "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. (Mat 7:20) The book of James says: What good is it, my brothers if you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you. If a brother is naked and lacks daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, keep warm and eat your fill', and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. (James 2:14-16) Martin Luther moved the book of James out of the Bible into the appendix of his translation because of its focus on works. He said it was an "Epistle of Straw." Luckily, it didn't catch on. Most Evangelicals would say a "born again" Christian who does not do what Jesus would have him do, was never authentically "born again" in the first place. Therefore, would be in danger of hell. Catholics would say it a bit differently. We would say he broke the Grace that was bestowed on him at baptism. Many Evangelical denominations (although not all), including the famous Evangelical Moody Institute in Chicago, preach that there are different sizes of "houses" in heaven, depending on how we respond to our faith. The Evangelical pastor, Rick Warren in his bestseller book "The Purpose Driven Life" says: One day you will stand before God, and he will do an audit of your life, a final exam, before you enter eternity... he will ask us two crucial questions ...First, 'What did you do with my Son, Jesus Christ?' ...Second, 'What did you do with what I gave you' ... the second question will determine what you do in eternity...(The Purpose Driven Life, pg. 34) At the end of your life on earth you will be evaluated and rewarded according to how well you handled what God entrusted to you. That means everything you do...has eternal consequences...you will receive a promotion and be given greater responsibility in eternity ..." (The Purpose Driven Life, pg. 45) If you are rewarded and treated better in Heaven for the things you did in this life, then those who do not get those rewards are being "punished" for not doing the things on earth that would get them those rewards in Heaven. Catholics agree that there may be consequences in the afterlife. However, we believe if the sin is very serious, then we may have severed the bond with Christ completely, and as such our soul would be in danger of hell. If the sin is not too serious, we believe Jesus will clear it up in the interim between our death and entry into heaven, which we call Purgatory. Catholics totally agree that faith is necessary for salvation. Without it we are lost. We would also say we that the Bible has called us to respond to that faith by doing what Jesus would have us do, and that failure to do so is a serious sin, which could put our souls in jeopardy. (Mat 7:20, 1 Cor 9:16, James 2:14-16) We can lose this precious gift of faith as St. Paul indicated to St. Timothy: "wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made shipwreck of their faith" (1 Tim 1:18-19) Charity is the New Commandment (Jn 13:34). Catholics feel that charity is a reflection of our faith and it helps keep us true to the saving Grace that was bestowed on us at baptism. Charity reminds me not to be "self cen "self centred" which can cause a "backslide" into serious sin. It is also a form of penance which Catholics feel is valuable and it is a sign of our "yes" to God. Through his command to charity, God is saying something like "put your money where your mouth is!" (Mt 19:21, Mt 25:40-43, Rev 20:12, Lk 19:6) What does the Bible say about "works" and its role in salvation? Mat 7:16-20 Not everyone who says to me "Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?' Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; go away from me, you evil doers.' Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock" Matt: 19:21 Then someone came to him and said "Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life...[Jesus said] go sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven...When the young man heard this word he went away grieving, for he had many possessions... Mat 25:40 When you have done this to the least of my brothers you did it unto me Mat 25:40-43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?' Then he will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Mt 25:15-28 Check out the parable of the 10 talents. 2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive good or evil, according to what he has done in the body. Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books. And the sea gave up the dead that were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done. Lk 19:6 "So he (Zacchaeus) hurried down and was happy to welcome him (Jesus) ... 8 Zachaeus stood there and said to the Lord "Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much." 9 Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house" Many Evangelicals point to Rom 3:28 "...We are justified by faith apart from the works prescribed by the law." Catholics think it important to look at the entire passage in context. Paul did not only say "...apart from works." He said "...apart from the works prescribed by the law." The word prescribed infers that it was written down. If you asked a Jew back then what the law was, he would say "the Torah" which was the written law (1st five books of the Bible). WHO CAN READ AND WHO CAN FOLLOW DIRECTIONS? I TOLD YOU WHAT TO DO. YOU DID NOT DO IT. WHY? Father Joesph is only one who can help on this question and try to get the point to other types of christians. To me these "works prescribed in the law" such as circumcision seem quite distinct from Christian works of Charity. This is made clearer in the next verse "or is God the God of the Jews only is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also" (Rom 3:29) The next two verses drives this home. "Since God is one; and he will justify the circumcised (Jews) on the ground of their faith and the uncircumcised (Gentiles) through their faith" (Rom 3:30)." It seems that Paul is talking on this circumcision issue and the other trappings of the old Jewish law that were barriers to Gentiles. It seems to have nothing to do with works of Christian Charity. I gave you the website to read more and to learn more. I think we Catholics have the answer to that. Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life" (Rom. 6:3?4). In Colossians 2:11?13, he tells us, "In [Christ] you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision [of] Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ" (NIV). James 5:20 "you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinners soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins" James 2:14-16 "What good is it, my brothers if you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you. If a brother is naked and lacks daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace, keep warm and eat your fill', and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead." James goes on to hammer this home in the next few verses. Most of my protestant friends intuitively know this and they work hard to serve the Lord. Evangelicals believe the "Born Again" decision is the critical moment of salvation for the individual. Some feel that this decision guarantees salvation regardless of any future sin. Catholics view "Baptism" as the critical event in the salvation of an individual. Catholics feel they have Biblical reasons for focusing on baptism. In the New Testament we see a connection between salvation and baptism. (Acts 2:38, 22:16, 1 Pt. 3:21, Mk 16:15-16 Acts 2:38). Catholics look at the journey of water through the Old Testament including the great flood that cleansed the world. They feel that these were foreshadowings of baptism in the New Testament.(Gen.1:1-2, 6:5, 8:23, 9:9, Ex 3:4, Is12:2-3,1 Pt 3:20,1 Cor. 10:2) Particularly, Peter makes the connection between the great flood and baptism in 1 Peter 3:20-21. Cornelius was saved before he was baptized. Acts 10:47 states that he "received" the Holy Spirit...Also Cornelius spoke in tongues before he was baptized (Acts 10:44-48). This New Testament gift is given to those "in the church" (1 Corinthians 12:28) I think this is a good point. It shows that Cornelious received the gifts of the Spirit, but Scripture tells us that having the gift of the Holy Spirit, does not necessarily mean someone is saved. Mathew 7:22 says: On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?' Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; go away from me, you evil doers.' " (more...)

Open Question: Why do J. Witnesses say that hell doesn't exist?
Please don't say something like 'Gehenna or hell means trash heap.' The verses below clearly talk about hell which is thrown into the lake of fire as an eternal place of torment: And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to EVERLASTING life, and some to shame and EVERLASTING contempt. ?Daniel 12:2 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ?You fool!? will be liable to the hell of fire. ?Matthew 5:22 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. ?Matthew 10:28 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the UNQUENCHABLE FIRE. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. ?Mark 9:44 And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. THIS IS THE SECOND DEATH THE LAKE OF FIRE. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. ?Revelation 20:9-15 (more...)

Open Question: Please Give advice to my sister regarding Grandma?
?My 92 year old Grandmother just passed away. ?She left behind two daughters, a son and grandchildren. ?She was from the depression era, and saved, saved, saved. At the time of her passing, she had between $100,000-$200,000 in CD's and accounts. ?She left a detailed will, gifting her children, grandchildren and nieces. ?My sister and Grandma enjoyed a special relationship. While all of us grandchildren were close with her, my sister contacted her more than anyone. ?My sister has not had a typical job in over a decade. She does freelance web design here and there, with lofty goals to sell a movie script to Hollywood. She says that she can?t take a ?normal job? because she has to market her script during business hours to Hollywood agents etc. ?In the last five years, she has lived with me for approx. 2, rent free. She has also lived with and various boyfriends and friends etc. also rent free. The whole while, dragging my niece around with her. She is very intelligent, and pretty. ?My sister, on occasion, would borrow money from family etc. I.e. She has never completely independent but I would in no way consider her a "basement dweller in her mothers home." ?At the time of my Grandmothers passing, Grandma?s children were estranged from her for several years. While they were young, there was sexual abuse in the home. Grandma was in denial and it was more than my mother and her siblings could tolerate towards the end. However, prior to the last several years, there was a close bond between Grandma and her 3-children. My sister is aware of the dynamics. ?My Grandmother lived in the state of Washington. In Washington, you can avoid assets entering probate if you leave them in "paid upon death" type of accounts. Upon death, a loved one or executor of the will can simply provide the bank a copy of the death certificate and walk out with the cash. ?My Grandmother left her only assets, the paid upon death accounts, in my sisters name. My sister is the executor of the will. My sister is now claiming ALL of this money as hers and that Grandma, who is an excessively frugal woman, simply paid the legal fees to draft up a detailed will to leave her loved ones specific percentages of...nothing. ?My sister was also the power of attorney after Grandma's stroke, so it would make sense to the financial accounts were P.O.D. to her to avoid probate and carry out the intent of the will. ?The family is horrified that my sister could actually believe that ALL assets were to go to her and the written will is a worthless piece of paper, gifting family member?s specific percentages of nothing. ?My sister contends that if Grandma did not want her to have all of the money, she would not have made the accounts payable on death to her. Furthermore, initially, my sister was going to give my brother and me "a few bucks" and nothing to my/her wheel chair bound mother and aunt (let alone the cousins and nieces notated in the will). Are we being blind or is this morally theft? We feel that Grandma set up the accounts P.O.D. to simply avoid probate and my sister, as executor of the will and power of attorney was simply the beneficiary to expedite distribution of assets according to the will (why would my Grandmother pay legal fees to draft a will gifting percentages of nothing). Are we wrong and she right? Please write as if you were speaking to my sister as I would like to forward this link to her with the subject matter, ?Unbiased advise ? based upon the facts only.? Thank you. (more...)

Open Question: Turbo Assembler Fails to Create .OBJ or .COM/.EXE?
I have been tinkering with TASM 2.0, attempting to create an executable file with which I can test old DOS viruses on my DOS computer. However, no matter which .ASM file I use with it, nothing happens. I enter the command 'TASM (filename).asm', and receive the following output: Assembling file: (filename).asm Error messages: None Warning messages: None Passes: 1 Remaining Memory: 435k This seems to be normal, according to every tutorial I can find on the web. The previous command is supposed to create (filename).obj, if I am not mistaken. However, whenever I input 'tlink (filename).obj' or 'tlink /t (filename).obj', I receive the output: Unable to open file (filename).obj When I check the directory where the .obj file is supposed to be, it's not there. I know I am probably doing something incorrectly since I am not very familiar with TASM, so any help would be appreciated. (more...)

Open Question: Christians, what is being talked about in the first chapter in the Book of Acts?
What is being talked about in the first chapter in the Book of Acts? The Promise of the Spirit. In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all the that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the holy spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, apearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for "the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak; for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the holy Spirit." The Ascension of Jesus. When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnessess in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven." Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath days' journey away. The First Community In Jerusalem. When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. The Choice of Judas's Successor. During those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brothers( there was a group of about one hundred and twenty persons in the one place). He said, "My brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled which the holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concering Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus. He was numbered among us and was allotted a share in this ministry. He bought a parcel of land with the wages of his iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle, and all his insides spilled out. This became known to everyone who lived in Jerusalem, so that the parcel of land was called in their language 'Akeldama,' that is, Field of Blood. For it is written in the Book of Psalms: "Let his encampment become desolate, and may no one dwell in it.' And 'May another take his office.' Therefore, it is necessary that one of the men who accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus came and wen among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us, become with us a witness to his resurrection. So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who also know as Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed " You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place." Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was counted with the eleven apostles. What does this mean and what Church only has this? apostolic ministry and it won't be hard find out. it has 1 billion now 2 billion members. I give you the information to put 1 and 1 together and you will get the answer to the question. If you have a question; email me. But don't interupt me. I'm trying to teach to people who want to learn and who needs to learn. (more...)

Open Question: math/science conversions for is there a santa?-a physict view?
okay for science we have to read this and then chance all the numbers to a different most logical scienctif conversion than what it already is example 300 pounds i have to convert it to another scienctif conversion like grams or what ever is most logical so here is the story Is there a Santa Claus? - a physicist view Consider the following: 1) No known species of reindeer can fly. But there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not COMPLETELY rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen. 2) There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world. BUT since Santa doesn't (appear) to handle the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist children, that reduces the workload to 15% of the total - 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau. At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million homes. One presumes there's at least one good child in each. 3) Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical). This works out to 822.6 visits per second. This is to say that for each Christian household with good children, Santa has 1/1000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left, get back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh and move on to the next house. Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we know to be false but for the purposes of our calculations we will accept), we are now talking about .78 miles per household, a total trip of 75-1/2 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at least once every 31 hours, plus feeding and etc. This means that Santa's sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3,000 times the speed of sound. For purposes of comparison, the fastest man- made vehicle on earth, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second - a conventional reindeer can run, tops, 15 miles per hour. 4) The payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element. Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-sized lego set (2 pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, not counting Santa, who is invariably described as overweight. On land, conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds. Even granting that 'flying reindeer' (see point #1) could pull TEN TIMES the normal amount, we cannot do the job with eight, or even nine. We need 214,200 reindeer. This increases the payload - not even counting the weight of the sleigh - to 353,430 tons. Again, for comparison - this is four times the weight of the Queen Elizabeth. 5) 353,000 tons traveling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance - this will heat the reindeer up in the same fashion as spacecraft re-entering the earth's atmosphere. The lead pair of reindeer will absorb 14.3 QUINTILLION joules of energy. Per second. Each. In short, they will burst into flame almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer behind them, and create deafening sonic booms in their wake. The entire reindeer team will be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second. Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal forces 17,500.06 times greater than gravity. A 250-pound Santa (which seems ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015 pounds of force.> In conclusion - If Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he's dead now. i need help i h ave no clue what to convert what to (more...)

Open Question: According to the following reaction: Zn(s) +Cl2(g) --> ZnCl2(s)?
What is the theoretical yield, in grams, of ZnCl2(s) if 61.5 grams of zinc were allowed to react with excess chlorine? Please enter the answer in scientific notation! Thanks! (more...)
