Running with the Buffaloes: A Season Inside with Mark Wetmore, Adam Goucher, and the University of Colorado Men's Cross-Country Team
Running with the Buffaloes: A Season Inside with Mark Wetmore, Adam Goucher, and the University of Colorado Men's Cross-Country Team In RUNNING WITH THE BUFFALOES, writer Chris Lear follows the University of Colorado cross-country team through an unforgettable NCAA season. Allowed unparalleled access to team practices, private moments, and the mind of Mark Wetmore--one of the country's most renowned and controversial coaches--Lear provides a riveting look inside the triumphs and heartaches of a perennial national contender and the men who will stop at nothing to achieve excellence. The Buffaloes' 1998 season held great promise, with Olympic hopeful Adam Goucher poised for his first-ever NCAA cross-country title, and the University of Colorado shooting for its first-ever national team title. But in the rigorous world of top-level collegiate sports, blind misfortune can sabotage the dreams of individuals and teams alike. In a season plagued by injury and the tragic loss of a teammate, the Buffaloes were tested as never before. What these men managed to achieve in the face of such adversity is the stuff of legend and glory.
With passion and suspense, Lear captures the lives of these young men and offers a glimpse of what drives a gifted runner like Adam Goucher and a great coach like Mark Wetmore. Like Lance Armstrong's It's Not About the Bike, RUNNING WITH THE BUFFALOES is at once a glowing celebration of a sport and an inspiration to anyone who has ever had the courage to beat the odds and follow a dream.

Resolved Question: How does one declare residence sufficiently to gain in state tuition at University of Maryland Grad school?
Hi, I'm currently a rising senior at Goucher College in Towson, MD looking at attending the University of Maryland School of Social Work after I graduate from Goucher. I am currently a PA resident, but even regardless of UMD, I have every intention in the world to remain in MD. I am aware that one must have 12 months of consecutive residence to gain in state tuition at UMD, but what counts as residence? Could I consider my dorm MD residence, and then upon graduation move into an apartment in MD for the summer and thus have 12 months residence? I'm aware that I would need to transfer my voter registration, license, and car registration to begin the process this year, is there anything else? Would this work? I intend to stay a MD resident beyond graduation from UMD and Goucher, but I know that doesn't count for a whole lot, but if there's any way I could finagle in state tuition that would be really helpful as I go on into a profession where paying back loans isn't exactly easy to do... An additional question in response to the most recent question- would a college dorm count as residence if I could show that I am financially self sufficient in MD? (more...)

Resolved Question: I'm completely depressed ( grades) Help!?
I just got my final grades for sophmore year. I did absolutely horrible! I did not fail, but my grades look like this: B- , C+ , B, C, B, B. I've had the WORST year, unfair teachers, health problems, etc. These are in advanced classes. I'm guessing my gpa will be around 2.7. Last year I did a lot better, 3.3 overall. How will this decreasing trend of grades affect my admission to college? I DON'T mean the Ivys', but what about BU, Goucher College, Champlain College, Curry College, Clark UNiversity (MA) ? I'm signed up for 3 ap's nxt year, in classes I'm good at. I will be also taking Algebra 2 this summer, and it will go into my cumulative gpa. Basically, right now I have a 3.0 cumulative. I have outstanding afterschool activities, volunteering, will write great essays. The only thing holding me back are these awful grades. Is there any chance for me to get into these colleges? For 11 grade, I will be aiming for a 3.8 gpa. Do you think I can bring my overall gpa to a 3.3 in one year? (more...)
