A widowed and divorced father was working as a Police Chief for a small Ozark, Mo community. He had four children, two from his deceased first wife and two from his second wife, who had divorced him. He was paying child support on those two children based on his police income. One day, while changing a tire on his personal car, the jack slipped, costing him a leg.
As the community was small, working as a Police Chief with an artificial leg was not a particular problem, but as economic conditions changed, the community decided to return to County Sheriff protection. This left him out of work.
He tried to getting another police job, but was turned down. He ended up working as a bar tender serving people he had previously booked on a DUI.
He filed for a child support reduction, but was denied. Two months later, he was arrested for not paying his full support.
In jail, his artificial leg was taken away from him, as it could be used as a weapon. One day an electrical short started a fire that got out of hand. Cells were opened, but he had to descend a flight of stairs to get to the exit to the exercise yard. Guards were busy with prisoners, and other prisoners offered him no help. He never made it.
He paid the ultimate penalty for being a deadbeat dad, but the story doesn't end there. Two years after his death, his mother was served with child support enforcement papers for the money he owed, and still owed since his death.
IN MISSOURI, DEATH IS NOT GROUNDS FOR NOT PAYING CHILD SUPPORT.
She was served notice that when she died, a lien would be placed on her estate to recover child support owed by her son.
I left out that it was a Springfield, Mo judge that denied the motion to modify.
This case took place in 1997. It is one of many I dealt with in that last 20 years. The media refused to pick up the story, because he was a deadbeat dad.

Ok my kids are 11 and 10 and they are just plain LAZY!! Previously when we lived in Missouri(long story there) we moved with my sis cuz she had plenty of room and they kept up after themselves they did the dishes and cleaned...then we came back to Illinois and my mom wanted to move in with me so I said fine but shes old school where she cleans up after kids serves them did everything for them while I was at work that went on for a year...now we're living with my boyfriend my mom has her own place and my kids don't do anything!! We've lived with him for 3 months and their room is a PIGSTY! They have clothes everywhere their beds are not made garbage all over the room its disgusting...my guy is frustrated cuz on top of all of it he has OCD and hes a neat freak...everyday hes got a complaint about therm(which are all valid) All we ask is just for them to pick up after themselves and they wont do it! I just grounded them for a week from TV and I thought maybe they would get the point but I came home yesterday to a sink full of dishes and one on the computer and the other watching TV....Im at my wits end with them acting this way Any Ideas on how to get them to snap out of it? Im at the point where Ive called their dad to have him take over and have them live with him...which my boyfriend is totally against, but Its sooo stressful to me...Please Help!

before any bad comments- this child lies,cheats,steals,has sex. nothing her mom does will get her to stop. the mom has tried everything,grounding,taking her stuff away, taking away bad friends, making her write sentences.
this is what her therapists has advised to do,otherwise her therapist is going to have dfs take her away. please only give me sites or names or numbers to these type of centers.
oh she is 16 years old.
she is also physically threatening her mom now. her mom has also tried hard chores, and stuff like that,nothing works,the girl does the punishment then goes right back to doing wrong

Voting Question: What is the statute of limitations on a "charged-off" bank account in the state of Missouri?
I recently received a phone call from a debt collector claiming I owed money to US Bank on an account that I closed in 2000. This is the first I have heard of owing any money to them. I called the original bank where I had the account, so that I could try to figure out where this debt was coming from. They were unable to provide me with any bank statements, because they said they only keep bank statements for a total of 7 years (as required by law.) The only thing they could tell me was that the account was "charged-off", or sold to a debt collection agency in 2006.
I am trying to figure out what rights I have to dispute this claim. Does anyone know if the collection agency has violated the statute of limitations on this type of debt? I plan to send the debt collection company a letter disputing the claim, but I would like to have some grounds on which to do so.
Furthermore, how can a collection agency legally pursue a debt that a bank cannot provide me any proof (bank statements) stating that I owe them money?

Resolved Question: Obama has Missouri law enforcement checking the honesty of ads for potential lawsuits. Legal?
Obama has had ads banned by the NRA. If the law enforcement feels that a political ad run by the Republicans is dishonest, they give Obama grounds for a lawsuit.
No. 1. Who is to say what is a lie or what is the truth? Can anybody honestly say they have a source of information that is completely reliable? While I don't believe in ads that distort the truth, I also am against inhibiting free speech.
No. 2. Who is watching the honesty of Obama's ads? He is known to have distorted the truth on many occasions just like any other politician.

So out of respect and not wanting to cause more problems in the divorce I have not. (she has been very rude and even sent me extreme and offensive emails to which I have not responed). Well she moved to Missouri and took the 2 boys with her and has recently in the past couple of weeks introduced a new boyfriend to them and has even had him over and cooked dinner for him and the boys. My b/fs 5 y/o told him on the phone about this guy and what was going on and when he questioned her she got very defensive and told him he had no right to say anything because of me. Well we dont mind that she has a b/f in fact were hoping that maybe it would help her to move on. So he dropped it. Well this weekend she brought their kids down here so she could go camping for labor day weekend and their 5 y/o told his dad that his moms b/f stayed the night and that if he told her "secret" he would be in big trouble and get grounded. So now were worried becasue shes threating him and teaching him to lie. Plus since I have not even been around the boys and they already know me as daddys friend (we use to work together) but shes having men stay the night that they just met, it definatly doesnt seem right. What is a morality clause in texas divorce and how does it work? We agree thats its not right for the children to see that which is why even though shes obviously doing we still have not.
