Resolved Question: What is the best camera for my money?
I'm looking for some information on how to make an informed decision about purchasing a new camera. I want to start up photography as a hobby and seeing as though my very old digital camera has died on me I'm in need of a new one. First I'm not sure what I need in a camera as far as mega-pixels and optical & digital zoom is concerned, though I'm thinking 8 MP with at least a 4x optical zoom. And second I have really no idea what other qualities of a camera would put it ahead of the competition. And then if anybody has any suggestions or recommendations of cameras in the $100- 150 range I'd gladly accept those (with or without links). I'm in Canada if that helps at all. Thanks for all your help Yahoo! Answers folk! (more...)

Open Question: What do you think about the Canon SX1 (SX-1): see my review?
Since there is no listing yet for the Canon SX1, I will post my mini review here - I know I know! Canon is a great camera maker and has great stuff!!!! I know I should have a dedicated camcorder! I know I probably want what I can not have! But what the heck, I'm having fun in the processes and hopefully helping some of my fellow camera geeks out there! Well here it goes - I got hold of the SX1 (right from Japan - e-bay), shot about 50 pictures and 15 minutes of video (all under different lighting and various camera settings). Bottom line - I know you all will think I'm crazy - I'm sold it already! There, I said it, I'm selling it already!!! Basically, as stated in previous post above, I want both pic's and vid's - this camera does both, very nicely! I love Canon products and already own a G7 (love it). But the only thing I also wanted was HD video in 16:9 size from my point and shoot (by the way, the Panasonic Z5 almost did it for me - except the sound quality was so bad - the camera was unusable). So when I saw the SX1 I thought to myself; self(!) - I have to try this out. Now for my reason for selling the SX1, while taking great pictures, they are not that much better (expect for the 20X zoom - the only real cool feature!) than my G7, and the SX10 and SX1 are quit a bit larger to schlep around. Now for the video! The SX10 did not fit my bill because it only takes 4:3, but the SX1 takes full 16:9 1080P HD video!!!! With full 20X optical zoom!!! Way cool - right? This is BIG DEAL breaker - the video format is .MOV and my computer equipment at home simply can not play that video format very well (I've tried everything including VLC, MPac, and other codecs but to no avail). Trust me, I've tired everything (I think)! Ultimately, I've been told that the .MOV format is still new and you need very fast computing speed to watch these videos; I'm not ready to dump all of my computers to do this. My computers are all pretty new, especially my new desktop (Quad Core and all!), all at least 4 gigs of Ram, all running Vista - but all the video is jerky, spits and sputters and will not run well in full screen size. Otherwise, the SX1 is a sweet camera - and I think if stills are your main focus then you will be VERY happy with this state of the art camera. Maybe some day I'll try it again when technology and codec catch up! Can't believe I will be staying with the Sony T500, but again, this little baby fits my needs. What are your thoughts????? (more...)

Open Question: looking for a GOOD camera that can zoom in a good distance, shoot high action but don't want to mess w lenses.?
i would prefer a camera that has 8+ MP, 10+ optical zoom and 5+ digital zoom. i would also like it to have the feature of multiple color effects and shooting options. i currently have a sony cybershot 6MP with a 3X zoom, but it is just not cutting it with my children in sports that involve high action(pics turn out blurry). I also would love the idea of not having to mess with multiple lenses; one lens would be perfect for my needs(i dont have time during wrestling, football, dance, cheer to be changing lenses)! i have looked around and there are just too many to review.
