Crocodile Hunter's Croc Files - Aussie Legends/Pacific Northwest
Crocodile Hunter's Croc Files - Aussie Legends/Pacific Northwest What's great about the rumpled, khaki-clad team of Steve and Terri Irwin, hosts of The Crocodile Hunter, is their complete lack of pretense. Make no mistake: Steve is a goofball, prone to pronouncements ("By crikey!") that plant him squarely, cartoonishly, in his native outback, but he clears through the TV muck quickly, plopping his big-eyed persona behind him readily to deliver his points on the ABCs of wildlife. Mostly, it's the Cs the Irwins dwell on, crocs being the name of their game, but here they diverge. "Aussie Legends" examines all you'd expect: kangaroos, koalas, and wallabies--plus possums, a curious creature called Rufus Betong, and a wombat with an attitude. The emphasis is on marsupials, orphaned ones, especially. At a rehab center, we witness kangaroos on the road to recovery, some of them darting, adorably, in and out of man-made pouches. Then, with the indigenous inhabitants of Steve's stomping grounds surveyed, it's Terri's turn. In "Pacific Northwest," she leads an expedition through the Oregon Trail, where a bullying bison takes a dart to the rump and an aggressive elk gets his antlers sawed off (don't worry, no nerve endings involved). As anyone who watches The Crocodile Hunter regularly might expect, there's a lot to like here; these are solidly educational shows that don't skimp on fun--the Croc Cam zooms in on a cute-seeming bobcat swiping at the camera, for instance. Still, these shows lack that element of controlled savagery that gives the series its punch. Reptile enthusiasts and couch-bound thrill seekers won't be able to deny amusement, but they'll slither off wishing for more to sink their teeth into, so to speak. --Tammy La Gorce

The Stan Boreson Show
The Stan Boreson Show This video retrospective of the Stan Boreson show was released in the Seattle area around 1991. Stan Boreson toured 25 countries as a young USO musician during World War II. In 1949, he got onto a student-talent show on KING, Seattle's first TV station. From there he got his own weekly variety show. He told Scandinavian-dialect stories, skits and sang corny songs while accompanying himself on accordion and piano. In 1956, KING assigned Boreson to create a kiddie show. He teamed up with Doug Setterberg, who'd been doing his own dialect humor on KOMO's Scandia Barn Dance. Boreson and Setterberg combined their salty-Swede comedy with shticks inspired by comics such as Ernie Kovacs. Setterberg was also Uncle Torvald, the other half of Boreson's drag character Grandma Torvald. Boreson made the live appearances at supermarkets and schools. He sang the opening theme ("Zero-dochus, mucho-crockus, hallazaboobabub, that's the secret password that we use down at the club") Boreson and Setterberg made several "Stan & Doug" albums for national record labels. In addition to their own songs, they remade songs done in the 1940s by Yogi Yorgesson with names like "Freida the Clamdigger's Sweetheart". A Yorgeson song became Boreson's annual holiday tune, "I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas." Setterberg got equal billing on the records, but was uncredited on the show except for the final episode in 1968. After the show ended, Boreson made one more Stan & Doug album, singing both parts. They appeared on KING's morning talk show, with Setterberg talking in his electronic voice. Then they lip-synced from the record, with Doug mouthing Stan's impersonation of Doug's former voice. Stan Boreson still preforms and has appeared six times on Garrison Keillor's radio shows. But to know what he was really about, you've got to see the video. It's a pleasant trip to a distinctly Northwest brand of light absurdity.

Open Question: How good is this as a first chapter as my story?
Keep in mind I know the spelling so I dont care about that. And that I am only 12. My feet slapped against the hard wood flooring. It was freezing here, I hated the cold. The waves slapped hard against the side of the house, high tide. I walked against the floor, it was feeling like ice, every second. I looked out the window, rain pelted against it making a rattaling noise. The sun was just starting to rise right behind the oceon. Turning the sky a light, pale pink with white swirls mixing in. I lived in Westport Washington, at Pacific northwest beach. I had just moved here to my only source of sanity I had left. My best friend Calista. She hated her name, so we had made nicknames for eachother. I called her Cali, and she called me Avia. My name was Octavia felicity essence crade. Possibly the most uncommon name out there. I had recently moved here about a day ago from Charleston North Carolina. I was still 17 at the momment. I moved because I had, had enogh of my mom. My dad had died when I was seven I barley remeber it now, but I knew that nobody would tell me anything, and tried to keep me away from the suspicions. My sister Lauren had died along with my dad supposebly in a fire. She was younger then me about five years of age. After they died things had gotten bad. We moved away from Westport, and moved to Charleston. The only thing I liked was that it never had as much rain as Westport. My mom just got crazier each day. She had been put into rehab after taking drugs, but she never stopped. I did not want to live there any more, I had, had enogh. So I ran away, back here with Cali, because she is all I have left. Though I was better then my mom, I was not much better. I walked over to the mirror, hanging above the kitchen sink. My appreance was hard to look at. My hair was a dull black, the blonde roots giving it a skunky look. It dragged down to the middle of my back, I would have to dye and cut it again. My emerald green eyes were always lifeless, and bloodshot from never sleeping. I never ate much I never did anything. Life had not been good latley, and I did not deal with things very well. I had a lot of money from my dads will. Most of it was supposed to go to college, but I did not think I would ever go anyway. He had left enogh for me to buy anything I could ever dream about. I had this beach house of course, and I had just bought my car. I had spent a lot of money for the house, so I did not buy my dream car, but it was close. It was a 1990 buick reatta convertible in a bright red tone. I liked it, it was at least my favorite color. Just then my cell phone rang. playing not to late by three days grace. I picked it up quickly. "Hello" I said. "Hey Avia, Im so excited you get to come to my school today, I cant wait to see you again, and show you around." My excited friend rambled. "Me too, Cali" I lied. She noticed the tone of my voice. "Dont worry, you'll be fine, I can at least tell you it will be better then Charleston." She said. I was going to go to Octova high with Cali, today to start my school year as a junior. It was a bad time to join a new school. It was four weeks late. "I'll try my best to put the fake smiles on for you." I said sarcastically. "Fine, but I will try to make this the best year you have ever had." She hung up with that, she had to get ready, it was two hours before school started. She cared about her apperance a lot. I put my hair up into a twist bun nice and tight, making sure to cover up the blonde that was seeping through the roots. I through on a black sweatshirt, and some jeans. I had stopped caring what people had thought a long time ago. I had a lot of time to waste, so I went to the beach. The sun had fully rised. I stepped into the sand, squishing it between my toes, I had missed this feeling. I inhaled the salty air feeling it burn the dryness of my throat, from all the crying. I could smell that beachy smell. The dead fish, and seaweed. I hated seafood, so this was really not my place to live, but I had so much hope for this to work out, and I was going to make it work, it had been to long. I walked along the sand feeling it warming up from the morning sun. At least it would not rain today. The rain only made it worse for me, beacuse it fit my mood so perfectley, and made me think of depressing thoughts. I always felt like I was dead when I did that, I hopped that Cali could at least bring some sanity back to my life. I slung the strap of my backpack over my shoulder housting it up. I got into my car. It smelt like New car and vanilla from the new air freshener I had got for it. I drove slowly, I lived a distance from the school, but it was not very far. I pulled up to the school it was the complete opposite of mine in Charlestone. It had a gray roof top, and the sides were a beige white. A little red picnic table sat in front of the school, along with a statue of a wild cat baring its teeth. This was home of the wildcats. Kids were begining to get out of t (more...)

Open Question: Why do I keep dreaming about Economy crisis?
For the past 2 weeks I have been dreaming about the economy crisis... the dreams are so vivid that I can't have a good nights rest.. My husband and I both have good jobs, I am in Health Care, and my husband works for a milk production company which supplies milk to the pacific northwest wal-mart companies and other companies including schools and what not. So we are pretty secure in our jobs, however my dreams are so scary.. we have a one year old daughter together and I can't stop thinking about how I will provide for her and give her a good life in the future with the economy the way it is... do you think there is any hope for our country? Also, how do I stop these dreams.. at least to get a good nights rest. (more...)

Voting Question: Help on Oregon State history?
how is oregon historically significant to both the U.S and the pacific northwest? (more...)

Open Question: exactly WHY did you vote for obama? was it his color? why?
this question should not get pulled because it's legitimate: i have been asking my friends that chose to vote for barrack obama WHY they did so, and they cannot give me, at their age group of 50 (+/-) years, any reasonable proof as to why they voted for him. and i am asking this because: i have heard basically nothing about obama since the election other than how great it is that a black man has finally become the president of the united states. i thought that the presidential race was NOT about color, NOT about race, or am i wrong? i have witnessed people buying ridiculous looking, cheaply made and ugly coins that feature obama on them, but he is not the president yet. i read an article on a blogspot written by a few younger voters in ohio where they are saying that they are working to get a national holiday named for barrack obama, but why? i mean, he is not dead yet, so, why? they will not answer my question. they must have some reason, so i ask you, what could it be? i have read that plans are underway to rename the 2nd largest airport in chicago (chicago o'hare, on chicago's WHITE northwest side, is the largest airport in chicago and it is the busiest international airport in the world), which is on the south side (where, generally, the black citizens of our city have lived, segregated from the white population on the north side) of chicago, from "midway international airport," (a name that was chosen to honor our WWII soldiers that fought and died for our for freedom in the Pacific theater) to "obama international airport." however, what, yet, makes obama worthy of this change of airport names? why are the soldiers that died for us on midway island in WWII no longer going to be honored by the name "midway airport?" and, who was o'hare, anyway, to have given his name to the largest and busiest international airport in the world? so, you who voted for obama, will you please explain to me why you voted for him? about the best i've heard is that he "will bring world peace." do you think that only one person can bring about world peace, namely barrack obama, and that's the reason why you voted for him? why do you think that way? i'd appreciate knowing your age, race/color, and the state where you live when you answer. as usual, i give thumbs down to one-liners. i want to know what you think, and i want to know why you think it. thanks. MORE DETAIL (OPTIONAL): AND, if richie daley, the mayor of chicago, really wants to show obama his support, he may as well rename o'hare, since that's our largest airport, and because it is located where the white folk live--this would be best suited to what the liberals were so pointed at changing, i.e., "racism," isn't it? why should it be that we rename any airport to honor a man that has not yet done anything as a president, nor much as a senator? if anyone here thinks that i voted for that milquetoast, mccain, they are out of their minds. that republican is a shame to the republican party and what it supposedly stands for. there were other candidates, not only two. demographics always interests me. it was surprising at first when obama secured iowa, but then i learned how he held caucuses there, which was so different than any of them. Resolved Question: Eye in the sky, in the southern sky?
I live in the pacific northwest, there is a bright star that appears too close to be a planet in the southern sky. It appears to be closer than the moon. I have watched it for months now and sometimes it gets brighter and dimmer. Is this a geosynchronous orbit satellite? No, i guess i did not explain myself. It is not Venus. It is too close / it has to be something else. Does Venus turn off and on? I do not think so. I promise sometimes it is not there. Please go look again. (more...)

Resolved Question: Which one of these 13 cryptids are more credible to exist?
Ahool Giant unknown bats are reported to reside in a region of western Java, plus similar reports under different names from Vietnam and the Philippines; possibly known as Orang-bati in Seram, Indonesia. Andean Wolf These unrecognized mountain dogs are seen in South America. Bigfoot The classic Sasquatch of the Pacific Northwest is well-grounded in hundreds of years of sightings, encounters, folklore, traditions, hair samples, and footprint evidence, for starters. The Patterson-Gimlin footage captured images in 1967 of what appears to be a good type specimen of this animal. Caddy These unknown Sea Serpents (perhaps Mystery Cetaceans?) living off the coast of British Columbia are a popular figure in Canadian cryptozoology. Champ Giant prehistoric-looking creatures supposedly lurk in Lake Champlain, a 109 mile lake that borders New York, Vermont, and Ontario. Chupacabras Also called ?Goatsuckers,? these bizarre Caribbean and South American cryptids are five feet tall biped creatures with short grey hair that have spiked hair and reportedly drain the blood through throat punctures of the livestock they kill. Giant Anaconda Reports have been made of 100 feet long snakes on the Rio Negro of the Amazon River basin. Jersey Devil This regionalized name hides these perhaps a variety of creatures that have been haunting the New Jersey Pineland forest for over 260 years. Mokele-Mbembe For over two hundred years there have been reports of living Sauropods (dinosaur) in the remote Congo area of Africa. They may be confused with accounts of other local cryptids, including aquatic rhinos and monitors. Mothman A local name for giant owls (also called Bighoot) which have been sighted for over 100 years in the West Virginia-Ohio area, and elsewhere in North America. Ogopogo This is Canada?s most famous type of water monster, the specific inhabitants of Lake Okanagan in the south central interior of British Columbia. Thunderbird Large condor-like birds, perhaps Teratorns, appear to still roam the skies of North America, along regular migration routes. Loch Ness Monster Nessie is the most famous Lake Monster in the world; they are said to inhabit this loch, an extremely deep Scottish lake. (more...)
