Private School
Private School Take Animal House, throw in a dose of television's Bosom Buddies and you get the Phoebe Cates/Matthew Modine sex farce Private School. The 1983 film was shot one year after Cates won fame in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (thanks primarily to her little red bikini), and two years before Modine won rave reviews for his work in Vision Quest. While neither star gives a stellar performance in Private School, both are appealing and likeable, even with the ridiculous premise. Chris (Cates) attends an all-girls private school, while horndog Jim (Modine) matriculates at the nearby all-boys school. In order to get close to her, Jim and his friend dress up like girls and befriend Chris and her hot posse. When Chris' sexy rival Jordan (Betsy Russell) tries to woo Jim away by riding a horse, Lady Godiva style, the stage is set for a catfight. Throw in a guest appearance by Sylvia Kristel of Emmanuelle fame and double entendres abound. The soundtrack is full of songs by '80s staples such as Rick Springfield, Vanity Six, and Bow Wow Wow, whose "I Want Candy" is played throughout a peeping shower scene. Though cheesy and intended for teenage boys, the film has an almost innocent charm compared to some of the current fare in theaters. --Jae-Ha Kim

Open Question: MUT'AH marriage! just read it chia.?
Mut?ah marriage and refutation of those Raafidis who permit it Could you please tell if there is such a concept as 'temporary marriages'in islam. I would like to know because a friend of mine has read a book by professor Abui Qasim Gourgi and is under the impression that if they are already married it is okay for them to do muta(the name for a temporary marriage according to islamic shariah). His definition for a temporary marriage is that if you like someone it is okay for you to have your nikah read with them for a short period of time. Please could you tell me more about the issue of muta and which schools of thought believe in such an idea (could you support your answer using references from ahadith and quran). Praise be to Allaah. Mut?ah or temporary marriage refers to when a man marries a woman for a specific length of time in return for a particular amount of money. The basic principle concerning marriage is that it should be ongoing and permanent. Temporary marriage ? i.e., mut?ah marriage ? was permitted at the beginning of Islam, then it was abrogated and became haraam until the Day of Judgement. It was narrated from ?Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade mut?ah marriage and the meat of domestic donkeys at the time of Khaybar. According to another report, he forbade mut?ah marriage at the time of Khaybar and he forbade the meat of tame donkeys. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3979; Muslim, 1407. It was narrated from al-Rabee? ibn Sabrah al-Juhani that his father told him that he was with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who said, ?O people, I used to allow you to engage in mut?ah marriages, but now Allaah has forbidden that until the Day of Resurrection, so whoever has any wives in a mut?ah marriage, he should let her go and do not take anything of the (money) you have given them.? Narrated by Muslim, 1406. Allaah has made marriage one of His signs which calls us to think and ponder. He has created love and compassion between the spouses, and has made the wife a source of tranquility for the husband. He encouraged us to have children and decreed that a woman should wait out the ?iddah period and may inherit. None of that exists in this haraam form of marriage. A woman who is married in a mut?ah marriage, according to the Raafidis ? i.e. the Shi?ah, who are the ones who say that this is permissible ? is neither a wife nor a concubine. But Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ?And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts) Except from their wives or (the slaves) that their right hands possess, for then, they are free from blame; But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors? [al-Mu?minoon 23:5-7] The Raafidis quote invalid evidence to support their argument that mut?ah is permissible. For example: (a) They quote the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ??so with those of whom you have enjoyed sexual relations, give them their Mahr as prescribed?? [al-Nisa? 4:24] They say: this verse indicates that mut?ah is permissible, and the word ?their mahr (ujoorahunna ? lit. their dues or their wages)? is evidence that what is meant by the phrase ?you have enjoyed sexual relations? is mut?ah. The refutation of this is the fact that prior to this Allaah mentions the women whom a man is forbidden to marry, then he mentions what is permissible for him, and He commands the man to give to the woman he marries her mahr. The joy of marriage is expressed here by the word enjoyment (?of whom you have enjoyed sexual relations?). A similar instance occurs in the Sunnah, in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah according to which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ?Woman is like a bent rib, if you try to straighten her you will break her. If you want to enjoy her, then enjoy her while she still has some crookedness in her.? Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4889; Muslim, 1468. The mahr is referred to here as ajr (lit. dues or wages), but this does not refer to the money which is paid to the woman with whom he engages in mut?ah in the contract of mut?ah. The mahr is referred to as ajr elsewhere in the Book of Allaah, where Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ?O Prophet (Muhammad)! Verily, We have made lawful to you your wives, to whom you have paid their Mahr (bridal?money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage)?? [al-Ahzaab 33:50] Thus it becomes clear that there is no evidence in this verse to suggest that mut?ah is permissible. Even if we were to say for argument?s sake that this verse indicates that mut?ah is permitted, we would still say that it is abrogated by the reports in the saheeh Sunnah which prove that mut?ah is forbidden until the Day of Resurrection. (b) The repo (b) The reports that some of the Sahaabah regarded it as being permissible, especially Ibn ?Abbaas. The refutation here is the fact that the Raafidis are following their own whims and desires, because they regard the companions of the Prophet (may Allaah be pleased with them) as kaafirs, then you see them quoting their actions as permissible in this instance and in others. With regard to those who said that it is permissible, they are among those who did not hear that it had been forbidden. The Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) ? including ?Ali ibn Abi Taalib and ?Abd-Allaah ibn al-Zubayr ? refuted Ibn ?Abbaas?s view that mut?ah was permitted. It was narrated from ?Ali that he heard Ibn ?Abbaas permitting mut?ah marriage, and he said, ?Wait a minute, O Ibn ?Abbaas, for the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade it on the day of Khaybar and (he also forbade) the meat of tame donkeys.? Narrated by Muslim, 1407. And Allaah knows best. All Rights Reserved for IslamQA© 1997-2009 : 600.63 (more...)

Open Question: did private elementary schools exist in the US in 1910-1920?

Open Question: I need help convincing my parents to let me switch to private school.?
okay so i'm a grade 8 student at a public high school. I HATE it. it feels so unclassy. Like 3/4 of people in my grade do drugs and drink. they dont pressure me to, but it feels like i dont have alot of options for friendships. I used to be friends with this girl, and we had alot of friends, now were not friends anymore and now all our old friends hate me and love her. I live in a place where everyone knows everyone elses buisness. I just want to start out fresh where nobody knows anything about me... so I want to move to a private school. the thing is, they are all at least 45 minutes away so i'd have to get up really early and take the bus out to vancouver. and i dont think i'm smart enough. what is about the lowest GPA needed for a typical private school? i feel that private school would be really helpful and a much better learning enviroment. HELPPP!?!? mmk i really dont want to hear "dont do it" my parents have the money. they would spend it if they thought it was worth it so i need to prove that it is (more...)

Open Question: Is it possible for a teen with AsPD (Antisocial Personality Disorder or Sociopath) to be popular in school?
I am attempting an amateur diagnosis on a kid at my school. He/she tried to kill his/herself once with sleeping pills He/she is at a small private school yet still does drugs, sex, and alcohol I believe this to be a stupid cry for attention He/she acts far older than he/she is He/she thinks he/she is the coolest and most unique kid ever, but still cries for attention by pretending to have low self esteem He/she is bisexual (if it matters) He/she is fourteen years old If it's not AsPD, then what is it? I know for a fact it's not depression because he/she told me that he/she sees a psychiatrist and doesn't have depression. I hope to be a psychiatrist one day. Thank you (more...)

Open Question: What would you do if your husband says this to you?
I have been married for six years. My husband's family did not like me from the start because he belongs to higher class. I never was welcomed in their house and i never bothered myself to make them like me.Me and my husband have a baby boy together 5 years old. He beated me many times while we were married and yeah Im suppose to leave him immediately but i don't have money to look after my child. My family warned me not to marry him so i cannot tell my family what Im going through. We stopped having sex after my child was born and that is 4 years ago. While i was pregnant nine months he beated me and I have something that emotionally affected me i dont have any feelings for him anymore. While we were married I supported him in his work and he made many investments while we were not spending so much and i never asked him for any penny because i thought whatever he is investing is for our family. Reality is hitting me bit hard now because i was wrong. He started going out early morning in weekends and coming back home around 2 am and he sleeps without saying a word. He told me we are not husband and wife and i dont love you anymore and if you want divorce you can go to the court and let them call me and im ready to divorce you straight away. I want secured life for my child the one he has now,he goes to the most expensive private school in my state and lives happily but im afraid if i go for the divorce things will be ruined for him and me. I can stand by myself and do alot of things like starting to work but what makes me sad is when he was making all this investments and i was day dreaming and helping him. What would you do if you were in my place. I never discussed this with anyone and i don't plan to. Thanks all. p.s.I'm 27 years old (more...)
