Desert Birds, Bats and Wildflowers - California and Yuma, AZ
Desert Birds, Bats and Wildflowers - California and Yuma, AZ Travelscope discovers the desert's subtle attractions when Joseph travels from California Wildflowers to Yuma, Arizona's Birding and Nature Festival. Each year the California desert is awash in color as the region's flora springs to live after much needed spring rains. Joseph visits Joshua Tree National Park and then heads north to Lancaster, California for the annual California Poppy extravaganza.

Yuma, Arizona is more than the Southern gateway to California. According to Farmer's Almanac, it has the best weather in the country, it's the site of the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, and it's the country's highest producer of winter vegetables -- and the habitat for more than 380 species of birds.

Joseph heads to Yuma for its annual tribute to our fine feathered friends during the Birding and Nature festival - five days of exhibitions, seminars, events and field trips celebrating Yuma's natural side. In Yuma, the Colorado River brings life to the desert attracting hundreds of species of birds, as well as birdwatchers.

Open Question: I asked a question about finding a ring with the mexico flag for my hsband b-day and all i got back was ?
All i got back was negative comments! Why so rude?So it is ok to buy rings and other jewlery with the American flag but as soon as someone says something about Mexico the *hit hits the fan.I got told it is tacky or take him to mexico to visit a resort. We own a house there and own three here.I was just trying to do a sweet thing for my husband b-day.Everyone should be able to be proud of there country and i take offense because my son is half mexican.Americans think that all mexican are short dark and dumb oh and illegal. But that is not true.I thought this was a community where you could ask a question and get a fair answer. But thanks my fellow americans for all the love and support!!!!! Open Question: Weather in Mexico, the Caribbean, or central america in October?
I'm trying to plan our honeymoon in October. We're looking for an all inclusive beach resort. I have read that several areas are risky to travel to at this time of year because of a rainy/hurricane season. Anyone know where we can find a resort with the highest probability of good weather? Open Question: How should I turn down a bridesmaid request?
A month ago my cousin asked me to be a bridesmaid for her November wedding in Mexico (she was my bridesmaid 2 years ago and we are very close). I was flattered she asked and obviously said yes. After talking about it with my husband and mother, I am having second thoughts. First, my husband has a flying phobia and refuses to get on a plane for even an hour. Second, the cost of attending this wedding as well as participating in it, is going to cost me a pretty penny. I really, really want to serve as a bridesmaid and be there for her special day but I just can't see traveling to a fabulous resort without my hubby. And even if he did decide to go, there are plenty of other things I'd rather do with $2k+ than to spend it on airfare, hotel and a bridesmaid dress I'll never wear again. The invites for the bridesmaid luncheon have gone out and she's already setting up fitting dates for the dresses (she doesn't play). I know I have to tell her ASAP, I'm just really nervous about upsetting her. I need some advice on how to break it to her. I am completely torn by this decision but I don't feel there are any other solutions. TIA (more...)

Open Question: Any suggestions for a budget friendly destination wedding on or around New Year's Day?
I am trying to plan a destination wedding on a tight budget! I have been looking at places in Mexico; however, I have noticed that the rates are very high around this time of the year. I am open to looking into other places besides Mexico. My idea is to invite close friends and family and would estimate about 30 people being able to come. I want to find a place that has reasonable air fare and lodging rates, so that friends and family will be able to afford the trip. I was originally wanting to get married on New Year's Day; however, after doing some research, I'm not sure that this will be possible since it's a holiday. My alternative date would maybe be 1.2.2010 -- So, my ideal plan would be for people to travel to the destination around the 30th of Dec (which will be a Wed.), have the wedding on the 2nd (Sat.), and then people would most likely travel back on the 3rd. Any suggestions for locations that may offer reasonable rates around this time of the year would be much appreciated -- or if you have had or attended a destination wedding and have any general recommendations for destinations, resorts, planning, etc, please let me know. Thanks (more...)

Resolved Question: What is the best place to go to in Mexico for vacation? Between Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, and Mazatlan?
We are a young couple, looking for nightlife, beaches, good surf (for me), and good eating. Also, any opinion on all inclusive resorts in those cities. Thank you. (more...)

Resolved Question: How much should we budget for family ski trip?
We are a family of 4, but our kids are really young. 3 1/2 yrs. old and (if we go near the end of March) our baby will be 9 months old. We live in Texas and would like to go to a somewhat close resort, either in New Mexico or Colorado. How much are we looking at spending for a 4 night stay somewhere? I mean total, including food, gear, clothing, lodging. We have never been skiing so we'll be beginners so we'll have to buy or rent everything. Any suggestions? Is it a bad idea to go with a 9 month old? Thanks We were hoping we could budget $1500 for the entire trip, but we're not sure, and we do plan on bringing a family member to watch our baby girl. Open Question: What's a good place for a family vacation?
We're trying to decide where to go for our next vacation, it will be sometime during the summer. I was just wondering if anybody knew of anywhere really nice to go, or possibly any resorts you know are good or anything. We'll be there for probably a week. It will be me and my cousin (ages 20 & 19) and my other cousin (8), and then my aunt and uncle. We've been to Clearwater and Orlando, Florida, and Xcaret, Mexico. It'd be nice to go somewhere that has activities that we can all do together, preferrably somewhere warm with beaches. Aaaaaaany suggestions? :-] (more...)

Resolved Question: Is spending $800 for two weeks at a resort worth it?
I am going on a three week vacation with my fiance and our son. We are going to Mexico first, then we are going to Corpus and then San Antonio. I am getting a resort through my Aunts Bluegreen program she is in. She will book me a resort for the 4th of July weekend in San Antonio, but I have to pay her $450 for that week. In Corpus I will probably pay $350. I have never done this before and I am wondering is this going to be worth it? I am spending one week in Corpus and one week in San Antonio. I have never planned a vacation, so I am wondering if paying this amount is a great deal. It sounds like it is, but I just want opinions!! (more...)
