With Boxer, the National have reached four albums into their increasingly lauded career, never hurrying the tempo, never over-reaching in volume or instrumental density. Instead, the quintet's balanced on a pin, emotionally austere, if not utterly downhearted, finding brilliantly dusky ways for Matt Berninger's lovelorn voice to mesh with a pair of unobtrusive guitars and, here, an occasional phalanx of piano, horns, and strings. The tunes roll off slowly, Berninger's lyrics hugging the instruments with a sad brawn, rough-hewn as the drums and bass toy with angularity (try "Mistaken for Strangers," for one) but end up woven by that voice. Drummer Bryan Devendorf presses the songs forward repeatedly, as on "Start a War," where he gently thumps the time as the acoustic guitars frame and dot the melody, coalescing as the drums starkly chisel the melody. Nary a distortion pedal is harmed on Boxer, giving the National a magnetism so forlorn that you can't stop listening. --Andrew Bartlett

On their third recording, the National strikes a delicate balance between light and dark, fast and slow, American and British. While their sound is undeniably tinged with darkness, it isn't gloomy or depressing. This impression is mostly due to Matt Berninger's deep baritone, which brings to mind such sensitive, but manly Brit vocalists as Scott Walker and Stuart Staples of the Tindersticks. The National, however, are American. Formed in Brooklyn in 1999, the quintet hails from Cincinatti and doesn't sound much like a New York Band (Interpol, the Strokes, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc.). Instead, they could be Midwestern or even Canadian in the way they combine alt-country, chamber-pop, and post-punk angst, like Toronto's Royal City or Montreal's Arcade Fire. Often compared to Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits, the National's music is actually faster-paced and has a lighter, almost jaunty touch. In other words: they rock. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

The pigeonholes that exist have long been a bad fit for John Butler anyway. Roots band, protest band, jam band, groove band . . . these labels may or may not have applied in the past, but the John Butler Trio of 2007 has come too far and seen too much to sit in anybody else's niche. "GRAND NATIONAL" is more about love than injustice, more about ass-shaking than finger-pointing, and more about maintaining the funk than any particular hairstyle. It's an album of sharp focus and wide variety that matches and surpasses monumental expectations.

Clinton Corpse Collection I've investigated a lot of crimes over the last 32 years, including murders. Any criminal investigator with the slightest bit of experience and training could easily see (and most have seen) the many flaws, holes and gaps in the so-called Vince Foster "murder" investigation by, of all the federal law enforcement agencies, the Park Police. But, when one does a little more checking into the past of Bill and Hillary Clinton, they will find a long path of former friends, associates and business partners of the Clinton's who have died young and under mysterious circumstances. The following is a partial list of those whose blood cries out for justice. Kevin Ives and Don Henry: Died August 1987. Reportedly, they had stumbled upon the Arkansas Mena Drug Operation (many stories and articles have been written about Clinton's affiliation with the Mena Mafia) It was first reported that these two young boys died as a result of falling asleep on a railroad track. It was later revealed that Ives had received a crushed skull prior to being placed on the tracks and Henry had been stabbed to death. The following 7 deaths were all of people who reportedly had knowledge and information concerning the mysterious, unsolved murders of Kevin Ives and Don Henry: Keith Coney:died July 1988 from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. Some reports indicated that he was being chased by an unidentified vehicle. Keith McKaskle: died Nov. 1988 from multiple stab wounds Greg Collins: died Jan. 1989 from a gunshot wound to the head. No suspect was ever found. Jeff Rhodes: died April 1989 from a gunshot wound to the head. His body was burned and thrown in a dumpster. James Milam: died 1989. His death was ruled as being from natural causes, until his head was later recovered from a trash bin! Richard Winters: died July 1990 from injuries sustained during a robbery attempt. He was a suspect in the death of Kevin Ives and Don Henry. Some reports claim the robbery was only a setup. Jordan Kettleson: died June 1990. He died from gunshot wounds and was found sitting in his truck. Suzanne Coleman: died when Clinton served as Arkansas Attorney General. She was alleged to have been "romantically" involved with Clinton. Although she died from a gunshot to the back of her head, the death was ruled a suicide! She was pregnant at the time of her death. Alan Sandorf:died 1991. Sandorf was an employee of NSA (National Security Agency). He was reportedly providing info. to Danny Casolaro, who was an independent reporter investigating the INSLAW case (INSLAW involved Justice Dept. theft, cover-ups, missing records, fraud and gov. corruption of all sorts) Sandorf's body was found in the back seat of a car at the Washington National Airport. Dennis Eisman: shot to death in 1991. Eisman was an attorney, who was also working on the INSLAW case. Danny Casolaro: found dead in a Virginia motel room in 1992. His arms had been slashed multiple times. Casolaro was an independent investigative reporter who had extensive files and information on the INSLAW case against the Justice Dept. and other "high ranking" government officials. Even though his body was found, his files and documentations were said to have never been located! Victor Raiser II: died in 1992 from an unexplained airplane crash. He was co-chairman of the "Clinton for President" campaign. Montgomery Raiser, his son, also involved with the Clinton campaign was killed in the plane crash with his father and 5 other people. Ian Spiro: died in 1992. His wife and 3 children were found murdered in their home. They had been shot to death (execution style) Several days later Spiro's body was found in the Borego Desert. His autopsy revealed the cause of death as cyanide poisoning. He held files and evidence to produce before a grand jury in the INSLAW proceedings. Paul Tully: died 1992 from unknown causes. His body was found in a motel room in Little Rock Arkansas. He was supposedly one of Clinton's closest friends, and served as the National Democratic Committee Chairman. Jim Wilhite: died 1992 in a one person skiing accident. Wilhite had close ties to Clinton and was a former associate of Mack Mclarty (long time friend and counselor of Bill Clinton) Paula Gober: died 1992 from an unwitnessed one car accident. She traveled with Clinton and was his speech interpreter for the deaf for 4 years. Paul Wilcher: died 1993 from an "undetermined cause". He was a Washington attorney, who was investigating gov. corruption in the Mena Arkansas drug running organization and the BATF assault in the Waco ordeal. He had turned in a lengthy affidavit to Janet Reno only 3 weeks prior to his mysterious death! His body was found in a Washington apartment. His reports and documents have never been released. Robert Williams, Todd McKeehan, Conway LeBleau and Steve Willis: all died in 1993 from identical gunshot wounds to their left temples. They were the only Oh, Bush has one too. Out back was a trailer that was used as a dressing room/ hang out for "National Acts." The one rule was that each band member had to sign any of the walls. Heres a small list of who signed..Metallica (Cliff Burton), Sound Garden, Ted Nugent, DRI, Savatage,Danzig, COC, Racer X, Kings X, Lita Ford, Ozzy,Black Oak Arkansas,Rick Derringer, Michael Monroe(Hanoi Rocks), and a lot of others and I mean ALOT more bands signed the inside of that trailer. I was talking to my friend who was the promoter and I asked him about the trailer and he said that it was against city ordernance and the owner sold it and the buyer "PAINTED OVER THE AUTOGRAPHS!!!" A few of my friends say its no big deal but I think otherwise. What do you think? Match 1 - Ryan Braddock(no crowd reaction) vs R-Truth in a dark match Truth won with a scissors kick. Crowd was very into Truth with his crowd entrance and moves during the match. JR and Tazz made their entrance followed by the opening video and fireworks. No National Anthem. Vickie Guerrero came out and wished everyone a happy new year. She announced Jeff Hardy vs Edge for the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble. She also said the SmackDown Rumble entrants would be announced later on. This brought out Triple H who wanted to know if he was in the Rumble. She told him he'd have to wait along with everyone else. He started making the usual fat jokes about her until she frustratingly said he was in. He pulled out Vickie's action figure and took the figures shirt off to show the figure has a skinny body. He also said there were nude pics of her on eBay that were being bid on by someone named ChavoG2009. He said the auction goes off in 5 minutes. She looked shocked and walked off to the back. Finlay, Hornswoggle, Great Khali and Ranjn Singh were shown backstage doing a photoshoot. Match 2 - Finlay & Great Khali vs Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder After Hawkins & Ryder made their entrance they played the Umaga returns video. Finlay & Khali had seperate entrances. Hornswoggle ran under the ring. Khali & Horny did a comedy spot where the ref was distracted by Finlay, Khali gave Hawkins & Ryder a double headbutt then Horny snuck in behind the refs back and also gave them a double headbutt before running back under the ring. Finlay & Khali won when Khali pinned (I forget who) with the Khali slam. After the match, Finlay, Khali & Hornswoggle all hit their finishers. Eve interviewed Michelle McCool. Michelle said Maria was jealous and intentionally cost her the Divas Title. Edge, Vickie & Big Show were backstage. Edge said it was so embarassing having nude pics of his wife on eBay. Show said he saw the pics. Edge got in his face and said that was his wife he was talking about. He told show it's also embarassing losing to a flyweight at WrestleMania. Show stood up and they went nose to nose. Edge walked away and Show smirked. Match 3 - Jesse & Festus vs The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson Festus appeared to hurt his knee catching a Kendrick crossbody off the top rope. Jesse quickly came in. Ezekiel pinned Jesse with the dont-call-it-the rock bottom. I'm guessing Festus was just selling the knee. Match 4 - Hurricane Helms vs Vladimir Kozlov 2 minutes in and we have a boring chant while Kozlov had Helms in a hold. Kozlov wins with a spinebuster. A commercial aired plugging Behind Enemy Lines III on dvd this Tuesday. The arena lights went dark while the Tribute To The Troops video played. A bunch of crew members walked down to the ring in the dark and then walked back. I'm guessing someone was placed under the ring. Jim Ross entered the ring to announce the SmackDown Rumble participants. They are: Triple H, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, Shelton Benjamin, at that point Shelton interrupted JR. He told JR to leave the ring. He said he's been the US Champion for over 6 months and in 2009 he'll realize his dream of mnain eventing WrestleMania. He said there isn't gonna be anyone in the Rumble who will stop him. Undertaker's voice was heard "I think you forgot someone". The lights went down, and out from under the ring came The Undertaker who appeared behind Shelton when the lights came on and chokeslammed him. A video played for Kizarny saying he debuts tonight. Michelle McCool came to the ring. She started out as apologetic about what she did to Maria. She then called out Eve. She said she was sorry to Eve too, for what? I don't know. They hugged and Eve left the ring. Just as Eve stepped off the stairs, Michelle jumped out of the ring and hit her in the back of the head with the microphone. She threw her into the barricade and then kicked her head into the barricade wall. Backstage Triple H confronted Vickie and Chavo Guerrero. She said she wants an apology from him. He started making more jokes and she told him that next week he'll have to wrestle 3 times, a tables match, a handicap match and a last man standing match. Match 5 - Kizarny vs MVP MVP got on the mic all mellow and said "Whoever it is I'm fighting, just bring him out." As if he knew he was going to lose. Good arm drags and a running dive through the ropes by Kizarny. MVP had more of the cheers. The longer the match went on there were spatters of boos for Kizarny. MVP went for the playmaker, but Kizarny reversed it into a double underhook ddt with his legs around MVP's waist and then rolled it into a pin for the win.
