How bad is it if you give birth while you're sick with a cold? It seems like I have had a cold all winter. My last babies were spring/summer babies and cold season was over but not this time! If I have a cold, does that mean that my baby will also get a cold when he is so brand new? I am going to breastfeed him without question. Well, unless something awful happens... But that's something else too. How will his immunity be built up if I'm sick? Wouldn't it be ideal if I was healthier? What can I do while pregnant to boost my immune system before I have him? I'm due in 31 days so give or take a couple of weeks on either side he'll be here soon. Obviously I know that BFing will give him more immunity boosting power than formula will but is there a chance I could pass the cold virus through breastmilk or is it only passed through mucus, saliva, etc? Austin... I'm sure they're not going to keep my baby from me until I'm healthy again. My hospital doesn't even have a nursery. It's all rooming in. If they need to be in the NICU that's different but I don't anticipate a NICU stay for my new baby. He's already almost 36 weeks. (more...)

About a year and a half ago, my better half came home and was telling me about this guy she heard on the radio. He was carrying on about paying off your credit cards, driving an "old beater", and getting out of debt. She told me his name was Dave Ramsey. Well, long story short, we've been listening to him ever since. His approach to a debt free lifestyle was so simple, I couldn't believe we hadn't been doing it that way all along. We began applying Dave's "Debt Snowball" shortly after and started working the "Baby Steps". And so far, with the exception of one loan on a service vehicle (sorry, bought before Dave), and balance of a mortgage on a second house, we've wiped out all of our debt. Our plan is to sell the second house this Spring, use the proceeds from that to pay off both the mortgage and the loan on the truck, and the move on up the "Baby Steps". Right now, we're still on Step 2, but I can hardly wait until we can call in to the show and scream "we're debt free" on the radio. What a rush. I know there are other Ramsey fans here, I've seen their answers. So, here's my questions. Which "Baby Step" are you working on right now and what's been the hardest thing so far? (more...)

I did an AP Bio lab using daphnia today, and my teacher let me keep the excess ones (about 20 adults and 40, maybe 50 babies). I want to breed them. I've heard that you feed them yeast, bacteria, or algae, but how much? I know they prefer green water, but what else can i feed them instead? Right now, they're in the jar they came in but I'm going to move them into a tank. What kind of environment (tank size) should they be in? Do they need any plants, etc. in the tank? Also, how often should I clean the tank...and how? I know to use spring water, but are there any temperature specifications? Thanks everyone, answers are really appreciated! (more...)

Okay so I'm 18 and in first year university. Im from Canada so it is winter here. Lately for the past few months I've been switching between my cream and baby blue uggs. In the spring/summer/warmer fall months I wear sandals pretty much nonstop from flip flops to birkenstock. I wear runners (like actual running shoes) when I run or work out. But normal shoes, I need a new pair and I'm not sure what style/brand to even look for. I have a pair of white and black pumas right now, but they are getting out of shape and it is time for a change. Only thing is I have no idea what kind of shoes I'm even interested in. I'm from Canada, so I don't have access to shoes that are exclusive to American stores. I don't want ridiciously priced shoes either, just something durable and stylish. Oh ya and in the spring/summer/fall I also like to wear flats. (more...)

My bf's friend found a baby box turtle in the parking lot at work and brought it inside fearing it would freeze to death. We live in Kentucky and it snowed yesterday. I work at the USDA office and a man from the fish and wildlife saw him today and said that it is very unusual to see baby turtles this time of year. I have him now because no one knows what to do with him. I dont want to keep him as a pet but I would like to keep him until spring and release him. I was wanting to know what to do with him now. I have him in a shoebox sized tupperware container, with rocks, grass, mulch, and grass clippings, i have water in two shallow containers, and some lettuce and cut up grape. He hasnt eaten anything. So I'm due on Saturday and I keep having this excruciating pain when the baby moves and sometimes when he doesn't. It feels like he is sitting SO LOW! It kills my back and make me feel like I gotta go to the bathroom really bad...but I don't lol. Its been happening for 3 days now. This pain is also accompanied by period like cramps and just TONS of pressure. when its happening I feel like I can't even sit on my butt right..I literally have to kinda spring up a little out of my chair (if I'm sitting when it happens) to avoid the immense pain! I have a dr's appt tomorrow I'm gonna mention it..but I know what they'll say...."its the position of the baby take some Tylenol or a hot bath" neither of which worked...btw lol I'm also getting the TIGHTEST Braxton hicks that I have experienced so far. They hurt so bad...they aren't regular..so The dr isn't concerned. I'm trying for a VBAC(signed the papers and all) this time around and I may just have to have a c-section(if the baby doesn't come within a certain amount of time)..but the amount of pain I'm in I feel like just changing my mind and asking for the c-section!! Did/do you have this feeling? What is it!?! should I be concerned? I NEVER had anything like this with my first. (more...)
