Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride
It won't come as much of a surprise to anyone familiar with Hunter S. Thompson to learn that his life and work were inseparable, even indistinguishable, but that's the principal revelation in director Tom Thurman's Thompson documentary, Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride. In the 1960s and '70s, Thompson created what he called "gonzo journalism," mixing truth and fiction in a kind of superheated prose in which the writer, more often than not fueled by his copious intake of drugs and alcohol, not only reported stories but made himself an integral part of them. When he took his own life in 2005 at the age of 67, he left behind lots of bemused friends, peers, and collaborators, many of whom are on hand here. Johnny Depp, who portrayed Thompson in the film adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, his most famous work, describes him as a man "capable of a verbal menace… I've seen people reduced to mist in a matter of seconds." Actor John Cusack calls him "a deeply serious, deeply moral person… who loved orgies," and author Tom Wolfe says Thompson was "(the 20th) century's greatest comic writer in the English language." There are also clips from both Fear and Loathing and Where the Buffalo Roam (with Bill Murray as Thompson). But while Thompson himself appears in several interview bits (there are brief excerpts from his writings as well), little here is, well, gonzo enough to fully do the man justice--it would be nice if there were more odd moments like the one where conservative pundit William F. Buckley, Jr., of all people, recites Thompson's description of Richard Nixon as "a man with the integrity of a hyena and the style of a poison toad." The film is clumsily edited; even at just 77 minutes, it feels too long, and while the bits detailing his funeral and suicide note are interesting, the final parade of sentimental encomiums from the various talking heads is disappointingly pat. Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride is OK, but actually reading Thompson's work would be more revelatory. --Sam Graham

My brother in law who is in Singapore purchase a ticket for me to come visit them. Since he uses his credit card, I received via email my e ticket itinerary and receipt. My question is that do I have to ask my brother to send me a photocopy of his credit card used in purchasing? I have a photocopy already of his driver's license or it it enough to show at the terminal 2 check in?

Open Question: what would you do if you got a threat like this?
So somebody I know has been harassed for months by an ex boyfriend, and didn't report it to the police, hoping the harasser would just go away.
This harasser didn't go away however, and has phoned and texted up to 40 times a day at times.
So, just before the girl was about to go to another country where she was to visit her new boyfriend, she gets an answerphone message from a third unknown (to her) person saying that if she went to this other town in the other country she had better be careful (ie better watch her back)
what would you do, would you still go, or would you stay at home and go another time, bearing in mind the ticket cost about 200 dollars.
i mean, go again in a couple of weeks after buying a new ticket...or would you ignore it and go as planned.
It's between 2 european countries.

Open Question: Anyone know a travel agent in UK that accepts U.S. based credit cards?
I am trying to buy some tickets originating in London from a travel agent there as they have much better deals than agents in the U.S. for the same flights. Problem is all the UK agents want a photocopy of the front and back of my credit card. I called my credit card co. and they were not amused. They said no way.
So now I am stuck between a more expensive fare and compromising my CC security. Any advice? Or does anyone know a travel agent in the UK that doesnt require this bizarre and dangerous authorization procedure??
Tried Orbitz. Gave them all CC info. and two days later got an email saying all the seats were sold and they made a mistake. I checked with the airline who said that they still had seats available. (Kenya air who also want a photocopy of the front and back of my CC if I want to buy directly from them). When I called Orbitz back to tell them that there were still seats available and could they resubmit the request, they just said "no". I wont be calling them again...

I decided not to tell my crush how I feel. In the meantime I'd like to spend some time with him - like do fun stuff and make it not like a date.I thought this would be better as we would get to know each other better first. I get tix every year fro the PBR automatically and I was thinking of seeing if he would like to go as my aunt who usually goes is ill. It would actually be doing me a favor for him to go as the ticket would not go to waste as my other friends don't like that kind of stuff. Would that be okay to do - to see if he just wants to hang out?

Open Question: i dont know what to do about my neighbor......he has like 6 cars and he parks everysingle one of them.........?
purposely taking 2 spaces........we live in a townhome kind of street but we dont specific parking spaces for each and every household.....i mean we all have a garage but that's it.......my household has 3 cars.....we all park with consideration for other because on some days if we dont find parking down our street we have to park even a block away and its dangerous for people you know.......well this guy has a 4runner, a small nissan truck, a honda civic, and like 3 other cars but he has no consideration for anyone! he takes up 2 parking spaces with like at least 3 cars so he can "save" parking for his other cars.....well sometimes when i get home from work like at 6pm there is no parking and i actually have to park 2 blocks from my house! it pisses me off cauz as im walking to get to my house, i see his stupid fu*ken cars taking 2 spaces! and i just want to throw a rock at his windshields! ugh!!!!! well anyways, i have wanted to call the police and show them what this guy does so maybe instead of giving everyone else tickets for partially parking in the red, he can give him one for being a dumb a*s! is there anything i can do?
