Open Question: Does this sound like a good idea for a book? ?
I won't reveal too much, but it'll be called "Dependance Day". It'll be a dystopian novel similar to 1984 by George Orwell. It's about our world completely dominated by an oppressive, tyrannical breed of humans called the "Forns" (I might change the name) who keep the rest of mankind below them thanks to propaganda, fear and making the consumption of alcohol, drugs, fast food and other "modern junk" necessary. Followers of the regime are praised, but nobodyh cares because everybody lives off booze and stimulants and are kept in place by sadistic police forces, yet never revolt because education and propaganda tell them they are perfect and that society is fair and easygoing, even though they are exterminated once they get old or sick with "death-syndrome2 (an unknown, inexplicable disease much like Cancer that kills off random people. Its purpose and cause remain a mystery until the end). The only national holiday and celebration in the society is "Dependance Day", the date when the "master race" people "liberated the world from freedom". Concepts such as religion, art, homosexuality, individuality and war are all inexistent, thanks to indoctrination imposed upon the people. The "master race" humans however are all fit, cultured and wealthy. The plot itself will revolve around a young member of the society who doesn't fit in, who is independant and creative (he accidentally heard a piece of music, which is restricted for the master race, as a young boy, and his remembrance of the tune inspired him) and cynical towards the society. Desperate to escape the world he finds so boring and oppressive, he overhears rumours of a community in the far corner of the world seperate from the society, where the people are artistic and free-thinking yet not members of the master race. I won't reveal much more about the plot: I don't care if what I mentioned gets copied, as I'm quite imaginative and will think something else up if it does (i'm only 15 and have all the time in the world). What I wanted to ask obviously was: do you think it's a good idea/concept? What should I work on? Should I introduce more characters? etc. Thanks. (more...)

Resolved Question: I don't want my parents to pay for my college...?
Please read my entire post before responding that "I'm an ungrateful spoiled snob". thanks. My parents are rather wealthy, and have generously paid my other three sisters complete 4 year college tuitions. As with my sisters, when i go off to college in the fall, they would also like to pay for my college expenses. My parents tell me that all they expect in return is for us all to keep our grades up so that we can graduate with a good job. Sounds great right? Wrong. I've watched my parent?s behavior when my sisters went off to college, and they expect MUCH MUCH more than just grades. They expect you to live your life by their own morals. For example, my sisters were NEVER allowed to get a job at a bar, have a car during college, move in with their boyfriends, move into house that weren't approved by my parents first, not call any less then twice a week, and much much more. It is known that if these rules are broken, they WILL stop paying for college. During phone calls my parents expect to know EVERYTHING that?s going on, and they say that you are ungrateful for their money if you don't tell them EVERYTHING. I sat down a month ago and spoke to my sisters about what they thought of my parents basically controlling their lives even though they are adults now. They laughed and said, "my boyfriend moved in with me anyway, i just had him out of the apartment when mom and dad came." OR "I did get that job at the bar.....I just never told dad." So pretty much their advice is to take the money but live how I want too.....I'll be an adult, living on my own. I won't be a teenager anymore, having to hide things from my parents. I don't want to have to hide stuff anymore, I want to be independent and not have my parents on my back telling me what to do. My question finally is, how do I tell them NICELY that I do not wish to accept their money? They never even asked if I wanted it... I work two jobs and I have a lot saved up, however, I will have to take out loans in college for the rest. I do not wish to hurt my parent?s feelings OR sound like an ungrateful snob. Please help thank you all so much for your honest answers. Yes I will think this over completely. I already do work two jobs and I plan to continue this at college. I worked hard throughout high school for a good scholarship, and I got the maximum amount that they allowed. So in the end college expenses won't be that much for me. The only thing that will be a burden will be the cost of living on my own. Which I fully understand. I am VERY close with my family, and I would of course love to call them. However, when they talk to my sisters its like a drill... They need to know everything and as soon as they feel like they aren't hearing exactly what she?s doing....they threaten to take away money. I love my parents, but I want to live my own life. My one sister almost had her college money taken awya because my parents read a letter that her boyfriend had sent her, and it talked about them having sex (it was a love note).....my parents cried for days. My sister had been dating him for 5 years....... (more...)

Resolved Question: Ladies, which is more attractive?
A guy that lost his parents as a child, and went through life independently.. much more mature than your average 10 year old. From there, he works like crazy in his teenage years, which doesn't provide him with a lot of friends. He then tries his best to get scholarships so he could attend college.. OR, would you go for a guy that was a normal kid and had fairly wealthy parents. he was also on the football team, with many friends and a few lasting relationships. he has enough money for college and plans to go to a school like harvard. who would you want to spend the rest of your life with? personally, i'd go with the first guy :). i hope to meet someone like him someday. Voting Question: My sister owes me $200 and is lying in order to get out of paying me! What should I do?
In the Fall of 2007, my sister (who is my best friend) and I went to several concerts to see our favorite musician. We both don't make very much money but I had some money in savings so I reserved/paid for 2 hotels online and bought 2 sets of tickets on eBay...with the understanding that she would pay me back half of everything. The total was $340. At the first concert, she gave me $100 and said "I'm poor! But I'll pay you back whatever I can, whenever I can! I'll just make payments!" Her debt is now $240. A couple months later we went to another concert in which I bought the tickets for her birthday. We were going to drive home but decided last minute to stay in a concert. She put it on her credit card and I told her I didn't have the money right then, but I would just deduct the 1/2 of the hotel cost I owed her from the $240 she owed me. The room was around $80..so with taxes and everything, somewhere between $90-$100 was the total cost. She did all that so I do not know the exact amount. Anyway, it's been over a year and I've brought up her debt twice. Both times she was like "Huh? What money? No way it's that much!" and then blew it off. Since then, she has started dating a very wealthy guy. He gives her his credit cards to buy ANY-THING she wants. She has no rent, no car payment, only pays her student loans & some credit card bills. He takes care of the rest. She's always flashing her super expensive designer clothes, purses, jewelry, etc. I figured NOW is the time to ask for the money back since she is apparently well off financially. I sent her an e-mail today, explaining it, asking for the money, and told her I could show her proof of the costs of everything. She wrote back, arguing that the hotel cost $200+ (such a lie), but she would not show me a credit card or bank statement proving it. She said that she also has paid for food & dinner for me and that we "agreed" that would come out of what she owed me. I KNOW this is not true...because I'm a dork and have kept a spreadsheet of every penny in this matter and would have been writing down prices or keeping receipts for these meals to tally it up. I'm not an unfair person. We have been back & forth all day, arguing..her saying "I have BILLS to pay! I don't really have the money to give you.. I'll FIGURE OUT an amount and TRY to get it to you"..Unreal. I DESERVE this money. She owes it, we had a mutual oral agreement on this matter and she's totally "forgotten" she even owes me anything, is now falsifying amounts and telling me she can't afford it, after I see allll these material things she now has from her new guy. Our last conversation ended with her telling me that she was NOT paying me back (because I hung up on her). What should I do? I don't want to like take her to court or anything..this is my sister, my best friend. I am so mad that she does not see her responsibility in this and is trying to get out of it. FYI - Just because her boyfriend is wealthy is not why I expect her to pay me back now. I say this because she now no longer has a $600/month rent payment or utility bills and has a wayy better paying job than she did last year. I am at a financial struggle right now with the economy where I desperately NEED this money and don't feel I should just "let it go" and move on when it's rightfully mine. My fiance and I are getting married soon, own our own house, and his hours are being cut badly at work. (more...)

Voting Question: whats wrong with me? depression and disappointment kills.?
i've been very depressed and down for at least three years. I've never really said anything to anyone and I used to keep a journal about all my thoughts and all the shit ive been going through. I started this journal when I was 15 and I remember that every time I would write in it, I would chug several glasses of whiskey or scotch or any strong alcohol that existed in my house, no matter how strong it was. I've always been someone to keep in their anger and not say much until things got serious and now, every time I get really angry, my head starts to heat up and it feels as if thousands and thousands of needles are piercing through my head. I feel like because of my depression, though, I've been drinking a lot more and got myself involved in drugs, but nothing serious. I'm soon starting to hate who I really am and my friends cause the more I think about it, I feel like I'm such a fake and my friends are the cause of that. I also feel deep regret from all my past fuck ups and I know I shouldn't constantly leave that to grieve over but it always strikes me again. My childhood haunts me cause of all the shit that happened to me. I feel like I'm living an average life and I don't want that. I don't want to live in the city I currently reside in and I don't want to be with the people around me. I just feel everyone's slowly fucking me up in the head, cause all they talk about is their problems in their own small world, becoming indifferent and ignorant to the rest of the world. I'm currently in college and I'm going into political science, hoping to specialize in helping and speaking out for third world countries, but I all I get are shit talks, trying to make me go into another profession where I can be wealthy and so on. Then they tell me, who cares about those people that are suffering, or someone else will help them. My life seems to be crumbling down. Now i'm suffering from insomnia. The smallest things seems to trigger my emotions, but I keep silent and hold it to myself. My "hot-head" problems are getting worse and occuring frequently. I'm constantly finding myself fighting with my parents and my friends over the smallest things. What the fuck should I do? (more...)

Resolved Question: What is wrong with kids these days (rant about teen/tween pregnancy)?
Kids as young as 11 are having unprotected sex and actually getting pregnant...and they're happy? What is wrong with them? I don't understand why they think it's going to be amazing. Society is not the only thing to blame. Not even parents (although they do have influence). The media has glamorized this teen pregnancy epidemic. I want it to stop. What upsets me the most is there are kids out there who are concerned and want to be safe but they don't know about great programs like Planned Parenthood etc. This can easily stop if schools would stop teaching kids about Abstinence. It's NOT going to happen. They're going to do it. Birth control should be pressured on these young girls. Almost forced. It saddens me that women- grown women- try so hard to conceive a child and fail when these girls- 14, 15, 16 etc. get pregnant with the snap of a finger and a load of ignorance. Why do CHILDREN think they can take complete care of another human being. It's a commitment for the rest of your life. If you're a teen mom and you have been successful, still have the father in your life, still have money, and still go to school...GOOD FOR YOU. You're a miracle. Current girls (and I'm hinting a GIRLS between 12-17) who are pregnant...you're life is going to be ruined. Do you know what you're getting yourself into? And don't give me this crap: "My parents support me" or "I'm wealthy and can handle it" OR the worst "I may be 14 but I'm completely mature". NEWS FLASH! You're NOT!! You're parents are ASHAMED no matter what they say. The realization that their daughter is a sl*t.... it kills them. Grow up you stupid kids. And close your damn legs... GET SMART AND DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. Yeah, I know what it's like to be raped. I've been raped 4 times. But some girls don't give up the child if they're raped. And that's ignorant. But it's the girls choice to open their legs (unless raped). Their choice to keep it. I respect any girl who goes for adoption, good for them. Men are ignorant too when it comes to condoms etc, but ultimately it's the girl's choice. NOTE: I said if you still have the father in your life, can support the child, have your family and still go to school? GOOD FOR YOU. Don't bitch me out because I look down on FOURTEEN AND FIFTEEN year old girls getting pregnant. PS, you're "Marriages" won't last. I give it a year tops. Also I'm very much against feminism. Resolved Question: Did you know that a REAL rich person would not be caught dead in clothing from Hollister or A&F?
It always makes me laugh how people say rich people dress in those clothes. No; middle class people dress in those clothes. Maybe upper middle class, but certainly not truly rich. Very wealthy people would not even think of shopping at a place like that. They shop at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, and other stores that sell haute couture and real designer clothing. Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch clothing is garbage and if you wear it, you are branding yourself as a commoner. Go get a suit made by Armani, or Hugo Boss, or a dress by Chanel or St. John, and compare the material and the way it is made (not to mention the price) to some of the cheap rags from Hollister. You will instantly realize what I am talking about. Was anybody in here actually aware of this? If you were, give yourself a pat on the back for being a bit brighter than the rest. If not, here is a heads up: If the store you shop at doesn't automatically offer to tailor the items to fit you perfectly after you purchase them, then it's a store for bourgeois, average folks. And now YOU are aware that there are other people who know this when they see you walking around with a big moose on your chest! I am an actor but of course not a famous one so I work for one of the department stores I listed. I can afford the clothing because it is at a discount for me, but it is still more well made than the crap from those other stores, even if I do not pay full price for it. So I do know what I am talking about. And no I do not think I have wasted 5 points. Because I detest fake rich people and I love letting them know I am onto them. They come into my store and waste my time because they cannot afford to buy anything in there but they think I will believe they can. They come in wearing their moose shirts and put their dirty hands on my $5000 suits and I have to have them damaged out or cleaned by alterations. The only way they could ever have any of it is to steal it so I have to watch them and I don't have time for that. They impede me and I hate them with a passion. (more...)
