The Wiz (30th Anniversary Edition w/ Bonus CD)
The Wiz (30th Anniversary Edition w/ Bonus CD) Directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico) and penned by Joel Schumacher (Batman and Robin), this lavish 1978 adaptation of the Broadway hit The Wiz was the biggest production filmed in New York City up to that point, utilizing the newly revamped Astoria Studios and locations around the city. Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, and Ted Ross (reprising his Tony-winning role as the Lion) star in this Academy Award-nominated musical for the whole family. The Wiz is probably the grandest take on L. Frank Baum's classic tale The Wizard of Oz. The production team created sets with a sense of urban magic and spectacle: a New York subway station literally comes to life, and the massive plaza between the World Trade Center towers is transformed into the Emerald City, featuring nearly 400 dancers with three costume changes. Like all good musicals, the Quincy Jones arrangements are highly hummable long after viewing (especially the funky "Ease On Down the Road" and the inspirational "Brand New Day"). In an era before MTV, the camera stays nearly stationary as Ross and Lena Horne vocally soar through their numbers. Their stage-like performances successfully make the leap to film, making The Wiz a testament to their singing talents and star presence. The then-thirtysomething Ross raised some eyebrows playing the traditionally teenaged Dorothy, but she and her supporting cast (including Richard Pryor as the Wiz) carry the tunes with an infectious verve that will appeal to folks of all ages. --Shannon Gee

Lost Legends of the West Volume #2 Yellow Lake Gold
Lost Legends of the West Volume #2 Yellow Lake Gold There is a lake in Alaska that does not appear on any map, no roads lead to it and the forest service claims that it does not exist. But ask a local and you will hear that in fact it does exist and that it is called "Yellow Lake". Yellow lake is a small lake that has a fortune in gold buried in a nearby cave. The only known clues are that a log cabin sits near the cave and that the gold miners were killed in a blizzard. Joanna Skye is not taking any chances. She plans wisely and brings along a Ham radio to keep in touch with a friend in Anchorage. She buys plenty of food and things look good until the plane she was planning to take can't fly and she is forced to hitchhike to her remote cabin. Joanna ski's and hikes while looking for a cave worth million. She is hot on the trail when Alaska starts to do what it does best, snow. Will Joanna's preparations be enough or could Joanna be facing the same fate as the miners that died 100 years ago ? Find out what its like when you are in Alaska with no power or running water and it starts to snow.

Open Question: I need help analyzing this poem, what do you think it may mean?
It's called "The Bean Eaters" By Gwendolyn Brooks. They eat beans mostly, this old yellow pair. Dinner is a casual affair. Plain chipware on a plain and creaking wood, Tin flatware. Two who are Mostly Good. Two who have lived their day, But keep on putting on their clothes And putting things away. And remembering . . . Remembering, with twinklings and twinges, As they lean over the beans in their rented back room that is full of beads and receipts and dolls and cloths, tobacco crumbs, vases and fringes. I need to know mainly what you think of the symbolism in the last stanza...like "full of beads and receipts and dolls and cloths, tobacco crumbs, vases and fringes." I was thinking the dolls meant they had kids and maybe the woman sewed...I also need to know of any shifts in the poem...I was thinking at "But keep on putting on their clothes..." It shifts from talking about their plain home/routine and went into the past (memories). And last but not least, what is the theme and tone of the poem? (more...)

Resolved Question: what do you think of my story so far?
i didn't think of a title or anything for it yet, infact i dont even know if i'll finish it. its not the best but i'm only 15 so i still have alot of time to improve on my writing skills. My heart was pounding inside of my chest. I could feel butterflies flapping furiously in my stomach as the bus turned slowly into the school bus loop. My nightmare was beginning. The first day of a new school. I sighed as I thought of all the possible ways I could embarrass myself today. I stared out the window at the I moved here to this large, cold city of Chicago, Illinois just a few mere days ago. But it seems like a lot longer than that. My whole life I?d lived in the heat and the sun of White Springs, Florida with my Father, Robert Brooks. Well? actually not my whole life, but for the past ten years. I was only five at the time when my mom couldn?t afford the rent of our apartment, and had to get another part time job at a local diner. She was gone all day, and wasn?t home enough to take care of me. But here I was again, ten long years of living with my dad later. I sighed as the faded yellow bus stopped right in front of the entrance to Lakeside High School, its tires squeaking and sliding in the snow as it slowed. Kids piled out, itchy to get off the too warm and crowded vehicle. I held my breath as I stepped carefully onto the old concrete walk that led to the doors, expecting it to be icy, but found that large pieces of salt had been thickly scattered all the way up to the doors. As soon as I walked in the large cafeteria I felt my self conscious level shoot up, and I tried to remember what I was wearing under the soft brown coat I had borrowed from my mother this morning. I never really paid much attention to? or really cared about fashion, or what was in or not, but a small sigh of relief escaped me when I remembered the blue fleece shirt I had thrown on today. I walked up the big stairway carefully; the last thing I wanted was to fall flat on my face going up the stairs. I decided I would stop by my new locker before going to my first hour. I yanked out a folded piece of paper that was my schedule from my jeans and searched for the number. 1182 I repeated to myself over and over again in my head. The halls were starting to fill up as the minutes went by, making it harder for me to see. My height was not one of my best qualities. I then remembered the map I had in my other pocket that showed all the floors of the school. I unfolded it and helplessly looked for where I was, not feeling like asking anyone for directions. It was on the third floor, on the other side of the school apparently. Damnit. I was going the wrong way. Still looking at the map, I swung myself around and shoved myself through the growing herd of kids. I saw another tower of stairs just past the main office, but before I could start walking towards them, someone bashed into me, knocking my body sideways and sending my books flying. I hit the white tiled floor with a thud. ?Oh my God, are you okay?!? A worried voice asked before I could react. ?I?m so sorry, I didn?t see you?? I looked up to see a small girl with long strawberry blonde hair and clear blue eyes staring at me, her expression worried. She outstretched her hand and I took it, smiling friendly at her. ?It?s ok. Don?t worry about it.? I brushed myself off once I got to my feet and she helped me gather my things, looking curiously at me. ?Hey? are you new here? I can?t remember seeing you before.? ?Yep, First day. My names Kaelyn Bryers.? Her smile widened and she held out her hand. ?Amy Benhorn, Nice to meet you.? Just as I shook it, the bell sounded in one long ring. ?Crap!? I said. ?We?re late. I don?t even know where I?m going, either.? I looked around me and realized the hall was practically empty now. Amy?s laughter startled me. ?Relax. I?m tardy all the time; they don?t do anything about it. You?re a junior right? What?s your first class?? Algebra I began to say, but she already had my schedule in her hands. ?Mrs. Boughtman? she mumbled. ?I know where that is, I have her second hour. Come on.? She walked in front of me and gestured for me to follow her. When we reached the top of the winding stairs, she led me down a wide hallway with pieces of trash and paper carelessly thrown on the carpeted floor. At the second to last door she stopped. ?Here you go. Good luck.? Her warm smile illuminated her heart-shaped face. ?Hey you can sit at my table today at lunch if you like. You have it after fourth period, right? ?Yeah, thanks, I?d love to. That?s one thing I don?t have to worry about today.? She laughed, then waved goodbye. My hours basically went the same way. I had to go through the whole ?new student? thing, getting introduced and stared at as the bell rang, my face automatically turning pink. Lunch came and went, along with fifth hour and sixth hour and soon it was the end of the day. I went to the front office to find my bus number, for it was so dark this (more...)

Resolved Question: Can someone please help me correctly identify this fish? (pictures included)?
I caught this fish in Lake Windermere, BC. The types of fish that are in this lake are: lake trout, mountain lake whitefish, bass, rainbow trout, bull trout, yellow perch, brown trout, brook trout. I have a photo guide, but I am not very familiar with fish, and they are relatively hard to distinguish with my lack of expertise. Resolved Question: does my life story seem interesting?
i was born in india, in a slum. i had an awful, awful childhood. when i was 13, however, i met this boy who was 14. he was from the same place as me but he had a better life. soon, i was swept up in romance. i heard stories of women being abused, beaten, hurt by their husbands and boyfriends, but banasari was not like that. he truly loved me. when we were 17 our beautiful, lovely little girl ajamara was born. we both loved her to pieces. but my parents were so upset with me for having ajamara before i was married that they kicked me out! banasari let me stay with him and his family. we started saving all our money and when ajamara was 16 we emigrated to andorra. the day we moved in i discovered i was pregnant. we named her upala, after my sister who drownded.we loved life in anorra, but we were very very poor. ajamara, banasari and i worked very hard, but there was the baby and it was difficult. we lived in a cramped apartment, but it was filled with happiness and love. 3 years passed i was pregnant again. we named this daughter nancy. when nancy was barely 14 months old, beverly was born. neither were planned but we still loved them. we kept working, because we still were in that apartment. finally, we had enough to buy a lovely little brick house. with 3 bedrooms. ajamara was in college at this point. she lived in a dorm. she never would've hd that chance in india. ever. i had to drop out when i was 10. 5 years passed and i was 45. we didnt think we could have any more kids, but lo and behold our twins marie and jeffrey were born. now we live in a big yellow house next to a skinny brook. it is wonderful. i am 60, only the twins still live with us, but the older girls drop by every now and then. we haven't gone back to india since, it hurts to think about it.
