I have read several very different perspectives on the closure of the paper but what seems to stand out is that the paper was releasing information from unnamed sources that deemed to be from the diplomatic station that were not following proper lines of communication to the Government. The Consul-General is supposed to be releasing/sharing information with the government via secure transmission lines or diplomatic pouch not through the newspaper. This is especially true due to a war with a non-conventional enemy the LTTE. And priority of information should first be with the government and only after government clearance should be disseminated through the media. This is not significant of a fascist government but of a non-linear/multi-national terrorist threat. Mr. Blake?s item appears from a business publication and Mr. Blake chairs the Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka ? known as the ?American Chamber of Commerce?. Usually diplomats work through a Bureau of Investment not a ?Chamber of Commerce? because of the level and complexity of diplomatic dealings. In this manner, it is unusual. In Mr. Blake?s piece it is stated that Sri Lanka is considered ?One of the most dangerous places for journalists in the world after Iraq? What both Sri Lanka and Iraq are learning is that threats posed against the established government include hit-and-run incidents that share a very high degree of mutual occurrence. These events include synchronized, international attacks from different terror elements in a same or sequential time frame. A recent event that comes to mind were the spate of multiple child abductions ? these occurred in a period of few days in Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq and one other country that is not currently coming to mind. Prior to that there was a spate of attacks on diplomatic drivers, prior to that there was a series of assassination attempts on Presidents and Prime Ministers. This is indicative of terror networks that I first noticed the existence of in 2006. I have not only reported these events to my government, but also to yours, to Europol and the British Home Office. Whenever I see another sequence-I report it. It has become standard procedure in places such as the Middle East, Israel, Iraq and Sri Lanka to recuse press coverage and NGO/INGO interaction with terrorist elements or within high security threat areas because press/NGO security cannot be guaranteed in a non-linear, multi-national, synchronized threat environments. The press wants autonomy of movement without consultation of military or government but at the same time wants the government to instantaneously act/react when an incident is perpetrated against that body. There is an ongoing investigation Mr. Blake to ascertain what and who caused the attacks at Sirasa studios. I sense a sudden upsurge of Cristiano Ronaldo articles, similar to the ones penned during the 2006 WC. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't really pose a dilemma for most fans, They just plain hate him. Such hate started with his 'unsporting like role', in England's elimination from WC 2006. Others hate him for his histrionics on the field, very similar to those displayed by Jurgen Klinsman, during his time at Tottenham. Many others will hate him, because of the resentment they have for Man Utd. Inevitably, there are some who hate him purely out of envy. Here you have a young man in the prime of his youth. He possesses above average looks at the very least, has legions of gals who adore him and who wouldn't hesitate, 'to throw themselves' at him, despite knowing him to be a womaniser. He is rich, has very good ball skills, and plays a crucial role for both club and country. I can't truly say I hate him. But I do love to see him in some form of trouble. His sheer actions/reactions on the pitch forces you to choose. But my choice isn't always negative, some times I like to see him doing things to rile up opponents, which inevitably would provoke hostile reactions from fans, commentators and the Press. (To compound it, he would score the goals to ensure victory). But I can't deny him the accolades he has earned this past 2 years, especially this year. For a player who operates from midfield and the wings, his goal scoring record will put many top strikers to shame. Furthermore, he also combines this with creativity from midfield. He has lived and played under very hostile reactions. The vast majority of players will buckle under such limelight, yet he thrives. I used to term him a '1 trick pony', or maybe 2, and felt he could never measure up to the other Ronaldo, who in his prime was beyond very good. But Cristiano surprised even me, with his playing style, contributions and goal scoring record. More than anyone else at Man Utd, (a club not short of outstanding players), he has been the principal reason for Utd's consecutive title victories. Further to this, was his role in propelling them to a 3rd European Cup. Apart from Kaka, Messi and others have been superb, but none of them as yet, can match Cristiano's collection of medals. Easily, he has been the top player of 2008. The Ballon D'Or, must surely follow with the FIFA Player of The Year Award. Giving it to anybody else this year, would diminish its' value. So this brings me to the questions, "Do you still hate or despise him?". I for one, certainly doesn't despise/hate him, but I still love to see him being the object of so many people's wrath.
