HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR PHOTOS

A majority of the Civil War photos come from the original glass plate negatives in the holdings at the Library of Congress. The plates depict the activities both during and immediately following the War (1861-1865). The process of taking photographs during the War was complex and time-consuming. Photographers mixed their own chemicals and prepared their own wet plate glass negatives. The negatives had to be prepared, exposed, and developed within minutes, before the emulsion dried. This was a difficult process to master in a studio setting and even more difficult to work outdoors. Photographers transported their supplies in a wagon, improvised a darkroom, and learned to use their chemicals in both the blistering heat and bitter cold. In the 1880s dry plate negatives were introduced. These glass negatives were commercially available and did not need to be developed immediately after the exposure.

Gettysburg
Iced Earth founder/composer/guitarist Jon Schaffer isn't one of those metal musicians who only want to entertain their fans with their music. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate?we can not consecrate?we can not hallow?this ground. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. Open Question: What do you think of my college essay?
It's not really an essay, but a detailing of an activity. Nonetheless, I was wondering if someone could offer last min grading. ____________ Another of My Greatest Loves Another of my true pleasures is military science. From debates to essays to the history of Alexander and Caesar, I have acted out my love with great zeal. I remember spending holiday time locked into reading the Art of War with inexhaustible passion. There were other times in which I was captivated by the Caesarean civil war, the Russo-Gregorian conflict and the latest events of the American two front wars. Even through school I would spend lunch debating over alliance systems and recent globalization trends of China and Russia. One debate that stood out was over whether Rome or Mongolia would stand victorious in war. I took the position of an unusual underdog, debating that Rome could win even with the technological superiority and siege ability of the Mongolians, nevermind the disparity in ears and geography between them. I argued the bleak difference between war and battle and through war there was much more to winning then shock action and rearing the enemies? flank. The debate continued and even made its way in infamy to the entire history department. Eventually the debate called for a ceasefire, due to the inability to make sense of the preconditions. In addition, our friends just wanted us to shut up at lunch. So everyone eventually went back to conversing about The Jonas Brothers. Nonetheless, I know that if I am admitted to your university that such discussion will be welcomed as apart of the greater intellectual environment, and it is concepts such as this that I can enunciate with great conviction that I will be a magnificent asset to your university.
