Resolved Question: Why do people say that the building of the border fence is good?
When it seems that it's causing more problems then anything else. Could this be another poorly planned project that everybody was gung-ho about, but in reality, it's just going to cost us more then predicted, and not really work if they can actually complete it? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080825/ap_on_re_us/border_fence_floods_3;_ylt=AhTN18AqKFYRzLuxMOZb1X1Quk0A Border fence design blasted as causing flooding TUCSON, Ariz. - Environmentalists say flooding caused by a new border security fence in southwestern Arizona shows the structure is being built too quickly and without regard for the environment. Critics say the design of the border fence caused debris and water backup during a July 12 storm that led to flooding at the port of entry at Lukeville and Sonoyta, Mexico, and at the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (more...)

Resolved Question: Is the Organ Pire Cactus National Monument safe to visit if you stay on the main highway?

Resolved Question: Do you realize here are the type of criminals entering America illegally? Five bodies found in desert;?
Five bodies were found in southern Arizona's desert during the weekend, and a suspected marijuana smuggler was shot and wounded in an unrelated incident, authorities said Monday. In the shooting, a wounded man came across U.S. Border Patrol agents about 20 miles north of the Mexican border near Interstate 19 about midnight Sunday, said Santa Cruz County Sheriff Antonio Estrada. Deputies were called, Estrada said, and the man told investigators that he and 10 other people had crossed into Arizona at Sasabe about three days earlier. As they walked through the desert Sunday night, two armed men wearing dark clothing approached them and, without saying a word, opened fire on the group, hitting the man twice. He said he dived for cover and hid while the other people in his group scattered, Estrada said. The man said he and the other group members were to meet someone in Amado who would drive them farther into the United States. However, Estrada said, "We have strong suspicion he (the wounded man) was part of a group that was backpacking marijuana." Estrada did not say whether the shooting was part of a drug theft. The wounded man is a 34-year old from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Estrada said, adding he was in stable condition at a hospital. By late Monday morning, Estrada said, none of the other group members had been found. Here are accounts of the five bodies found during the weekend: ? On Saturday morning, the owner of the Atascosa Ranch, near I-19 and about 13 miles north of the border, found the body of a man suspected to be an illegal immigrant on the ranch's land, Estrada said. On Friday at about 7:15 p.m., a Border Patrol agent patrolling about five miles east of Lukeville in the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument found the body of a 43-year-old suspected illegal immigrant. The man was found within a few yards of the Mexican border, said Border Patrol Agent Sean King. ? About noon Saturday a Border Patrol agent found the skeletal remains of a person about 13 miles east of Arivaca, King said. The agent could not tell the approximate age or the gender of the person. ? And, about noon Sunday a National Guard crew on patrol in a helicopter about 18 miles north of Lukeville spotted two decomposing bodies in the desert, King said. Neither of the two male bodies had identification, he said. The five bodies bring to 143 the number of suspected illegal entrants found dead in the southern Arizona desert since Oct. 1, the beginning of the federal fiscal year, according to Border Patrol and Tucson Citizen records. http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/daily/local/58129.php (more...)

Resolved Question: the nice people crossing the border?
Fred Patton, chief ranger of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument a U.S. park on the Arizona border says the threat of violence is so great that at least 20 percent of the park is closed to public, and there are some areas where even rangers cannot go. "The biggest threat to our people is illegal activity," Patton says. Soto said traffickers and smugglers have used every type of weapon to hit back at agents. "The frustration level is starting to increase because of our effectiveness," he said, citing attacks that include rock throwing, shootings, and even cases in which smugglers have tried to run over agents with their vehicles. who wants this? (more...)

Resolved Question: Environmental reasons have been raised against a fence, but aren't illegals bad for the environment too?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-08-22-parks-borders_x.htm?csp=N009 Last year, 205,231 illegal immigrants were apprehended on Arizona border lands managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Land Management, according to Di Rosa. Each year, an estimated 35 tons of marijuana pass through the Coronado National Memorial, east of Nogales, Ariz., the park service reports. At Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument run by the National Park Service, superintendent Kathy Billings says her staff spends about 75% of their time on border issues. Her park rangers, along with U.S. Border Patrol agents, detained nearly 8,000 smugglers and illegal immigrants last year and seized 8 tons of marijuana. " "Because of possible danger to visitors, Organ Pipe has closed 90 miles of roads that tourists once used to view scenery and wildlife. A 30-mile iron fence costing $18 million was finished earlier this month along the border to stem illegal vehicle traffic. The Bureau of Land Management, which oversees land along 155 miles of the border, faces similar problems. From 2003 to 2005, the agency removed 700 abandoned cars and 250,000 pounds of trash in southern Arizona, BLM district manager Bill Civish told Congress in June. In 2004, the Interior Department told the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, that between 1997 and 2000 the number of illegal immigrants detained on department lands within 100 miles of the border jumped from 512 to 113,380 and has continued to increase. At Cabeza Prieta, the basic work of the refuge ? protecting wildlife ? has been compromised, Di Rosa says. The traffic is disrupting migration patterns and destroying habitat." I hope the environmental study the Senate is conducting on the fence is looking at ALL impacts. What do you think? Carol R, did you READ the impacts? sqwirlsgirl - great avatar (more...)
