Colorado Urbanization History Video: Birth of a City DVD (1950s)

Birth of a City promotes a new town, Broomfield Heights, Colorado as a wonderful, modern place to live. A narrator makes predictions for the growth and success of Broomfield Heights (now just Broomfield) as planners and organizers draw up plans for the new town, contractors build the houses and businesses, and then as people move into the new homes. The whole town is organized around a central shopping district. Broomfield Heights is now a thriving community that is still experiencing growth today. Birth of a City is a quaint and interesting look at the history of city planning and urban sprawl.

Fire on the Mountain: The True Story of the South Canyon Fire

Colorado and its neighboring states battle thousands of wildfires every year, scrub and sagebrush blazes often ignited by lightning strikes in the dry, hot days of summer. A vast, intertwined firefighting infrastructure combining local resources with agencies like the Forest Service and the BLM, reacts to these flare-ups as if going to war--and in theory, the coordination and communication ensures that fires are fought in the most efficient and safe manner possible. But while most wildfires in Colorado end up costing just over $60,000 on average with no loss of life, the catastrophic South Canyon fire of 1994 burned for 10 days, at the ultimate cost of $4.5 million and the lives of 14 firefighters. OSHA would later describe the coordinated action flatly as a "management failure," and concurrent investigations would reveal a tangled web of jealous rivalries, bureaucratic bungling, and severe morale problems. (One of the early on-scene supervisors would later tell investigators, "Leadership in this state sucks.")
John Maclean (son of Norman Maclean, who wrote both A River Runs Through It and an award-winning account of Montana's deadly 1949 Mann Gulch fire) skillfully unfolds that summer's foreboding blow-by-blow. Fire on the Mountain weaves together a tense narrative of almost cinematic action, starring ballsy cowboy smokejumpers, frustrated federal middle managers, seasoned "hotshots" flown in like commandos, pissed-off tanker pilots, and well-intentioned but spin-wary politicians. Maclean's well-sketched personalities bring the action on the ground convincingly to life--and knowing up front that many of his main characters won't survive South Canyon makes this tragic tale that much more compelling. --Paul Hughes

Resolved Question: Can I do traffic school again?
I got a speeding ticket for going 13 over in september of 2007 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, El Paso County. I was able to get it off my record by doing online traffic school in advance of my court appearance. I'm wondering if the courts keep that sort of info, that i got a ticket but it's supposedly not on my record. I got another ticket this year (2008) for 12 over at the end of november. I'm just wondering if it's possible to do online traffic school/regular traffic school again to get it off my record? And yes, I know I shouldn't have been speeding but oh well. I have a lead foot.

Resolved Question: What do you think of latest Aliens arrested this week some had prior convictions national secuirty risk?
Four illegal immigrants arrested in the Yuma area Tuesday and Wednesday turned out to be psecurityy convicted felons who had been arrested a combined total of 40 times, the Border Patrol said.
Three of the four were arrested about 11 p.m. Tuesday after they were seen by a Border Patrol camera operator cross the Colorado River from Mexico, the patrol said in a news release.
Border Patrol agents arrested the three and brought them to the patrol station, where agents discovered that all three had previously been deported on multiple occasions from the United States.
One had been deported four times and had three prior convictions for possession of narcotics, the patrol said.
Another of the aliens had been deported twice and had prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance, corporal injury to a spouse, obstructing a peace officer, driving under the influence and possession of a dangerous weapon, the patrol said.
The third alien, deported one time previously, had been previously convicted of attempted robbery, carrying a concealed firearm, driving under the influence and possession of narcotics for sale, the patrol said.
The fourth alien was arrested about 4 a.m. Wednesday by agents at the scene of a traffic near Avenue H-1/2 and County 19th Street, the patrol said.
He had been previously deported from the United States and had been convicted of attempted possession of dangerous drugs for sale.
Does it concern adocactes for illegals that previously deported from the United States are returning ? do such people pose a threat to our nationsl ?http://www.yumasun.com/news/aliens_46698___article.html/arrested_convictions.html

Resolved Question: Does anyone know where to find the new/current scanner frequencies in Colorado after the FCC 800mhz rebanding?
I'm looking for the latest up-to-date Digital Trunking Radio System (DTRS) frequency list for Colorado. I'm having trouble finding current frequencies for Fremont County, Colorado.
** I've tried RadioReference.com. They don't list Fremont county in their trunking freq. list, and Google only pulls up outdated/old freq. lists.
Just thought I'd ask :)

Resolved Question: Do you know what the new digital scanner frequency for Fremont County Sheriff,Colorado is,or how to find it?
I'm using a digital scanner, (Radioshack Pro-96) I've tried Google, Yahoo, you name it- I've been searching for weeks. Most websites I've checked are outdated and have the old freq., or nothing listed for my area at all.
*I know the Canon City Police, Colorado State Patrol and the Fremont County sheriff use the same Control Channel (853.9625 and 853.425) and they each have their own "talkgroup" ID numbers. The old one was "analog" 154.845)
I can get Canon Police and State Patrol real clear on these freq, but not Fremont Sheriff Office. I know that Fremont County "talkgroup" is 4377, but when they talk, it sounds "digital" (screechy-computerized sounding)-like it's close to the right freq, but not quite exact, if that makes any sense.
I also read that the FCC has "rebanded" Colorado 800mhz frequencies and moved them down 15mhz, whatever that means.
**I have MS and I'm in wheelchair, I'm stuck indoors 24/7, 7 days a week, and listening to the scanner helps me feel more in-touch with the outside world, so any info would be very much appreciated.
And so after many hours of searching the internet, I just thought I'd see if maybe, someone here knows, or if not, Does anyone know of Colorado scanner website/forum/chat room or some place where I could ask someone?
{I tried to signup at "RadioReference.com" and "ScanAmerica.us, chat/forums", but never received an activation e-mail to enter their websites.} These are supposed to be the top two websites. I don't know where else to ask:(
Thankyou so much for your time :)
