Resolved Question: Update to "My baby pulled over a pitcher of hot water on himself". ?
This is an update to the previous post below. I took him to the emergency room and they took pictures of him and gave him some ointment and gauzes. He has to go see his regular pediatrician Monday. They said everything was fine and it was a minor burn/nothing to worry about. I was just paranoid because it was a burn. Why would they take pictures of him injury? Am i going to jail? Are they going to take my kids? It was an accident!! I had boiled some water for his bottles. He is 10 months old and still drinks formula...so I still boil his water for safety. Anyway, I had boiled the water and put it away in the refrigerator. My husband came into the kitchen and asked about dinner. He opened the refrigerator and was looking for something to eat. I came over to to where he was and threw out some leftovers. The sink is right in front of the refrigerator...we have a VERY small kitchen because we live in an apartment. As he was handing me a plate the baby crawled into the kitchen and grabbed the handle to the water pitcher on the bottle shelf. The water had been in the fridge for about 5 minutes and when it wasted on him he screamed. I scooped him up and was kicking my foot at the same time because the water had wasted on me, too. I thought all was well after we dried him off. There were no scaldings or burn marks. So I thought everything was cool. I waited a little bit longer (like 45 minutes) before taking off the diaper (because he was afraid and was holding on to me). Right down front (under his navel but not on his genitals) was a small amount of swelling and a couple of blisters. He has been up playing and is generally in a good mood. He doesn't act as if he is in pain or anything. I have been watching him closely to ensure he is okay. But I need to know what to do. Can I treat this at home or should I go over to the emergency room even though this happened a couple of hours ago? Oh I thought my husband was acting nonchalant and acting as if he doesn't care and that HE was trying to make it like it is all my fault. But he wasn't he was SCARED! This is not a time to point fingers...it is BOTH of our faults because we were too busy talking about what to eat for dinner to even notice when he crawled between us. All is well now. But I am still watching him closely (even though the doctor said he is ok). (more...)

Voting Question: read my story please?!?
i need help to write my story in the correct present. I keep writing it in the wrong present. if anyone can help me edit that would be great. i also need some names. i dont really like the name delilah or sarah. if anyone has any ideas in all for them. sorry about the many flaws in my story like wrong paragraphing and spelling. Feel free to comment but dont be negitive unless i can use it to build up my story. Its only the first few chapters. im using it to build up to the main story. im going to have around 24 chapters plus and epilodge and a preface.enjoy? thanks i posted my story at teh bottom Chapter 1. Broken A year earlier, my mother, father, my 6-month-old baby brother and I were living a perfectly happy life. I was only 11 but I remember so clearly. My family and I were heading to the new clothing store in our new black sleek Volvo so that I could pick out a new dress for my 15th birthday that was only 2 days away. I was so excited; I was bouncing up in my seat. The road was slick and icy. My father took great care driving knowing that the road was extremely dangerous. We were almost there, then suddenly it was all a blur, a truck appeared out of nowhere, losing control on the slick ice and then hit our car, pushing it into a another car then catching on fire. Some how, they managed to pull me out of our mangled car and me out rushed to the hospital. I remember being pulled onto a stretcher. I couldn?t feel any pain so I tried to lift my self up to go help my family, but they pushed me back down. All I could hear was screaming and crying. I got a short glimpse of our car. People were surrounding it, screaming and crying for help. Our shiny black paint was scratched and the cars body was mangled into a Volvo pretzel. I thought I heard my mother scream out my voice. I whipped my head up, in a chance to see my mother, but I was rushed into the ambulance before I had time too. I felt sleepy so I shut my eyes just for a second. I could hear the sirens blaring loudly then everything blurred out. I awoke up in a white unfamiliar room. A hospital I thought. I felt numb. I didn?t know where my parents were or if they were safe. I tried to call out to a nurse but my voice was thick from sleep and dry. I tried to lift myself up but my left foot felt heavy. I couldn?t move it. I tossed up the thin white sheet covering me to expose the heavy cast attached to my leg. I checked my arms, only a few small bruises were starting to appear, the same for my legs. I felt a spark of hope. I only received a broken leg and a few bruises, maybe I would have the worst injury and my family would be safe and healthy. A Broken would heal with in weeks. I let out a sigh of relief. My family would be safe. I could rest until I got to see them again. I let my eyes rest, once again, falling into a deep sleep and dreaming of a happy family. Chapter 2: Party I remember being shaken awake by my mothers close family friend Sarah. I opened my eyes and I saw Sarah?s tear streaked face. ?Delilah?? I felt panicky almost instantly. I felt tears spring into my blue eyes once I seen Sarah?s face. Whatever news she had; it wasn?t good. She tried to speck calmly but sobs broke through her words. I had no idea what she was saying, but I had a good idea. I tried to comfort her, but for my own family?s death, I broke out into my own loud sobs. I buried my head into her long brown curls. This couldn?t be real. No way. I must be dreaming. Or in better words, a nightmare. I don?t know how long we sat there. It could have been hours. All I wanted to do was shut my eyes and pretend that this isn?t happening. I knew I couldn?t hide from the fact that my family is gone. But I could try. Finally, afraid to speak, Sarah looked at me.She told me she was sorry. I didn?t understand. Why would Sarah say she was sorry? I knew this wasn?t her fault. I hugged her in response. There was no way I could tell her the way I felt. There were no words for what I was feeling. We sat there, just looking at each other with tear-streaked faces. My long blonde hair damp from tears. My family was gone. My baby brother, Mom and Dad were gone. Forever. I couldn?t accept that. I held some hope that maybe, some how, the doctors made a mistake and that they were still alive. Two days later I was heading home. I had to wear a stupid, bulky, itchy cast for 6 weeks. My crutches made large purple bruises on my arms. I hobbled out of the hospital, sore and stiff. Sarah took it as her responsibility to take care of me. She supported me and helped me walk to her red BMW 3 series. Once I had a full view of her shiny red paint work, I got flashes of a Black Volvo twisted and shattered. I tried to run, but the bulky cast wasn?t the best thing to run in. A sharp pain ran up my leg, causing my legs to buckle underneath me. I put my hands out, landing on them. Another sharp pain ran up my arm when I landed. The pain was numb. I examined my raw palm sorry only the bad part of my story came up ;-( please email me at unreal_cassie22@hotmail.com for teh whoel story. because of my bad editing, i changed her age from 11 to 15 and didnt change all the story. sorry. but her actual age is 15. thanks everyone. yes i do agree. i need a better vocabnulary. The starting of the book is a bit flat, i do agree. It needed spice. Im open for any more ideas. Im only 13 so its a little dull, but hey, what can you do? (more...)

Voting Question: bleeding ear concern?
Sunday morning I woke up and noticed my ear was filled with dry blood, my pillow had a substantial amount of blood on it as well. Since then I have been getting headaches and that ear feels strange. Its not really painful but there is a constant awareness feeling in it? I have not had a head injury or infection that I know of, should I be worried and go to the doctor or is this a fairly normal occurrence that will pass? went to the clinic, told the doctor about the bleeding ear, headache, behind eye ache and now facial sensation. She told me my ear drum looked ok however there was still alot of dried blood. She basicly dismissed my symptoms and said I probally stuck a q-tip in too far??? Is it possible to stick a q-tip in too far that it would cause all of these symtoms, or is it just in my head so to speak?? (more...)

Resolved Question: I am terrified of my 8 moth old daughter and dry drowning, secondary drowning, and delayed submersion injury! ?
I have been reading a lot of information lately on dry drowning. Basically the child swallows water while swimming or in the bathtub, etc. and some gets into his/her lungs or behind her larynx, the child gets out of the water just fine, then half an hour to 24 hours later, suffocates like she drowned due to the water in her lungs. If you don't know what I'm talking about you can read about it here: http://baby.families.com/blog/dry-drowning-and-water-safety (There are a lot of sites that explain what it is but this one has a clear, concise explanation. Apparently Wikapedia suggests that the media was wrong and this type of drowning is also called "secondary drowning" or "delayed submersion injury." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_drowning So great! Now I ahve two more things to worry about! Anyway, Now I am terrified of this situation. Apparently 15 % of all drownings are actually "dry drownings" or this "secondary drowning"/"delayed submersion injury." "According to the latest figures, about 3,600 Americans died from drowning in 2005, said the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including a small percentage that die up to 24 hours later because of water entering the respiratory system. A not insignificant number of the victims are children who died after having a bath." I have a trip to Hawaii planned for February and I am sooo looking forward to Avary's first experience in the ocean (Of course I am going to be super careful - I grew up around the ocean, lake, etc and I know a lot about water safety). However, now I am terrified of the possibility of this tragic situation occurring. All children love to splash around and it's ineitable in a pool or other body of water that some water will get splashed into her mouth or nose. I am even afraid of her splashing around in the bathtub - for the same reason. Before a month ago I had never given this much thought. I heard of it happening but now I am almost obsessing about it. Apparently, there are only three symptoms of dry drowning and they are very dificult to determine in babies. One is lethargy/extreme tiredness (which can be tough to determine after a long day of fun and playing in water, etc. because baby would obviously be quite exhausted. Two, Disorientation/ changes in behavior - again, difficult to determine in an infant, and three, slowed or different breathing pattern - which, many infants have different breathing patterns periodically throughout their first year of life. Has anyone had any first hand experiences with "dry drowning", "secondary drowning"/"delayed submersion injury?" Anyone else have a fear of this terrifying situation? I just feel so helpless in preventing it. I don't want to raise Avary in a bubble and never let her get out and experience life, but I have such horrible fears about this! You people obviously did not read the question or understand what I am talking about so why would you bother answering? For some stupid points? Get a life! (more...)

Resolved Question: Sore points in abdomen.?
Oct 30th, I got a neck injury at work, and had to see there local urgent care a week later. I got a mild pain reliever. The first day I used it, I got really sick. Nauseous, dizzy, shaky, vomiting, headache. I actually couldn't stop throwing up for about a half hour. I was straining to puke, but it was all dry heaves at that point. Since then, I have had lots of pain. Different sorts. I have sore points in my abdomen that when you press down, feel off and hurt very much. It hurts to sit. Sometime to lay down. Even to walk at times. I also have neck, lower back, and pelvic pain. It also seems that I'm getting more of these sore spots. I had one on my right hip. And one on my pelvis area below my belly button, but more towards my thigh. They pain is like.. A sore. It feels like I have a sore or burn inside me. And it just hurts to press. And lay on, or lean on something. I told my doctor, but he doesn't seem to think anything is wrong. It has effected my work. I missed two weeks and then got laid off. It hurts too much to do much of anything. I just want to know what others may think it is. It's driving me crazy. I just want to feel better and feel like I can do normal every day things and enjoy the holidays. My mom has fibromyalgia. I also have TMJD. Which I read on a site can be related to fibromyalgia. Voting Question: What kind of eye shadow is suitable for pets?
I have about 32 different colors in collection and I used everyone of them on top of the other. It turned my pet cat from calico to siamese. Does this mean that racial identifications can be changed by the use of eye shadow and pet hair? I might be on to something at this point. If you know what to pay, I will know what to do. Also, you should always be careful with head injuries, because if you hit your head hard enough, it pumps blood. If anyone knows where I could get dried grapefruit at 4 o'clock in the morning PLEASE, tell me! (more...)

Voting Question: can you help me summarize this article?
The Importance of Healthy Immune System Just as the world is filled with disease-causing organisms, the body is filled with defenses to resist them. In fact, no matter what your pet is confronted with, her body is well-designed to fight back. Studies have shown, for example, that cats that have suffered serious nerve injuries can recover complete muscle function. When pets take medications (or eat poisons), the liver produces extra enzymes to detoxify them. Even something minor as a pulled muscle is swiftly addressed with an increase in blood flow, which brings additional oxygen and nutrients and carts off wastes. The main reason a pet gets sick, according to holistic veterinarians, is that something is interfering with the body's natural healing powers. The key to self-healing is a strong defense system, which protects dogs and cats from everything from the flu germs to cancer cells. More than their mainstream counterparts, holistic veterinarians believe that a weak immune system plays a key role in causing disease. Antibiotics fight infection, but they don't affect whatever weakened the immune system in the first place. This is why holistic veterinarians focus less on things that cause diseases and more on those that affect the body's defenses. For instance, some veterinarians believe that there is a type of energy, or life force, that surrounds and flows into every living thing. You are not aware of this energy. You can't see it or hear it, and scientists still don't know how to measure it. But it is every bit as real as the invisible germs that surround us. When this energy is flowing freely, dogs and cats have a superb ability to resist disease. But when the energy is blocked or unbalanced due to such things as stress or injuries, pets become vulnerable to illness. And once they get sick, the energy becomes even more unbalanced, making it much harder for them to recover. Everything dogs and cats experience, from the quality of afternoon light to an upsetting afternoon, can affect the body's energy balance. But a few things in particular, such as diet, stress and exercise, play the biggest roles in determining whether pets get sick or stay healthy. Nutritional Risks Just as the wrong fuel causes car engines to knock and ping, certain diets make the body vulnerable to problems. Most pets eat commercial foods which are loaded with artificial dyes, preservatives, and additives. Dogs and cats have spent eons eating 'wild', natural foods, and this is what their systems are designed for. It is only in the last several decades that they have been exposed to commercially prepared foods, as well as the chemicals these foods contain - chemicals that their bodies simply aren't meant to handle. In addition, artificial ingredients can trigger an immune response that can, quite literally, make pets sick. The immune system is designed to attack foreign invaders while ignoring 'normal' molecules, such as those found in food. The chemicals in foods certainly aren't natural. If the immune system perceives them as threats, it will mount a defense. A meal of dry kibble can unleash a flood of basophils and other immune-system cells, which in turn, release chemicals such as histamine. Unfortunately, these chemicals aren't entirely benign. In some cases, they can trigger a rash of itching, vomiting or diarrhea. Diet affects the immune system in other ways as well. Among the most important components of immunity are antibodies. Antibodies are nothing more than specialized germ-fighting proteins. The only time your pet can make enough antibodies is when she is healthy and well-fed. In addition, the digestive track has evolved to digest and process certain kinds of foods. Extra ingredients such as food additives put a strain on the whole body as it works to break them down. It is especially hard on the kidneys and liver because these organs cleanse the boy of impurities and unnecessary nutrients. Holistic veterinarians believe that diet - more specifically a diet consisting of highly processed foods of questionable nutritional quality - is the main reason pets get sick, This is why holistic care nearly always involves changes in diet, regardless of other treatments your vet may recommend. The immune system is truly too complex to go into anymore detail at this time! But it is important to know and remember that it is designed to defend your pet against millions of bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites that would love to invade their body at anytime! All of these open the door wide to a variety of diseases that will pray on your pet's health including, but not limited to, diabetes, cancer, leukemia, toxic conditions, tumors, neurological conditions, allergies, kidney problems, infectious diseases, respiratory illness, kennel cough, mange and more.
