The Last Mimzy (Widescreen Infinifilm Edition)
The Last Mimzy (Widescreen Infinifilm Edition) Comparisons with E.T. are inevitable, but the more modest The Last Mimzy is based on the classic short story "Mimzy Were the Borogoves," by Lewis Padgett (a pseudonym for husband-and-wife writing team Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moore), that anticipated Steven Spielberg's extraterrestrial fantasy by nearly four decades. Chris O'Neil and Rhiannon Leigh Wryn give winning, naturalistic performances as siblings Noah and Emma, whose lives are transformed by a box of mysterious objects they find on the beach outside the family's Seattle vacation home. Among its contents is a stuffed rabbit that Emma names Mimzy and becomes quite attached. Noah and Emma are your typical outsiders. He is not good at sports, and she is interested in astronomy and plays the violin. But the objects work wonders on them. Their brainpower increases exponentially, Noah is able to drive a golf ball hundreds of yards, and Emma begins to communicate telepathically with Mimzy, who reveals his true identity and purpose. Rainn Wilson of The Office displays an off-center charm as Mr. White, Noah's New Age-y science teacher, who discovers similarities between Noah's intricate notebook doodlings and ancient renderings of the universe ("This is so out of my league," he marvels at one point), and becomes involved in Mimzy's back-to-the-future quest. Timothy Hutton and Joely Richardson are solid as the understandably confounded and increasingly concerned parents. Michael Clarke Duncan is a menacing FBI agent who, invoking the Patriot Act, arrests the family after Noah inadvertently causes a citywide blackout with one of the futuristic objects. The Last Mimzy may not reach E.T.'s spectacular heights, but as thoughtfully adapted for the screen by Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost) and Toby Emmerich (Frequency), it is a transporting, idea-rich family film that is free of gratuitous coarse language (save for Mr. White's offhand classroom use of the word "screw") or bathroom humor. --Donald Liebenson

Open Question: What to do about this??? (Long story)?
okay without trying to be total obvious here is a story about me and a girl im confused about. I have never been put in this situation before and normally handle it different.. So basically this girl started workin for my family and she was really nice and I asked her for her number and then about a week after seeing her again working we hung out. I was callin her on the phone and she was callin me back and stuff.... So We went out and had a goodtime at the end of the night I hugged and kissed her on the cheek...To my surprize she did it back to me. So time passes and I see her again and ask her if I can call her later and with a big smile shes like yea...and talks about giving me her home number. Well she leaves and I goto call later and I guess that day she just started working ALOT more according to my family. So I call her and her younger sister answers her phone and says shes asleep...So I leave a message with the sister and never back from the girl.... I sent her a text the next day kinda late but got no response. Finally it was her B Day and I contacted her and we talked kinda brief before she went out... She travels kinda far to work about an hour and usually wakes up at 6am and works until like 5 or 6pm. Then comes home in traffic. So the next week her car breaks down. I am away at school in a big city but my family lives in the suburbs of this city and I dont bring my car. So my family asks me if she can use my car she has relatives that live closer then an hour away and shes gonna stay with them..... So Im like okay cool... I called her up and teased her about stealing my car and we talked and stuff and it was good. I guess at some point she told her uncle she was interested in me but nervous if we go out she will get fired. Everyone was like nah nah no its all good. So that weekend after her car broke she was making travel plans to get her relatives car in another state. Before she left she called me and I was out with some friends and stuff so I was kinda brief but I got the impression she wanted to talk.... SO then the next week is like thanksgiving week and I kinda had a hardtime getting ahold of her but she responded and apologized and stuff. I asked her to an event and she said yea that would be fun. So I was like call me when your free, and she didnt call me. So I contacted her and she was like yea thats cool im down. I told her id call her later that evening and when I did no answer... So the next day I called her again and no answer but I knew she was working. So then I waited until later and I called her and we talked and made the plans.... So the next day we go out and meet up kinda took awhile. We finally met up and she was all sayin how she didnt have time for anything... and we were late to the event. So we get their and are having a goodtime and I was like yea u had me wondering if u were talkin to another guy or somethin it was hard to get ahold of you. And she was like No, and had this kinda weird look on her face but I was like well I think its legit I asked u that isnt it? and she was like yea... So the rest of the night went on we had fun and I offered to do something after and it was like 11pm. She wanted to but had tow ork early so we scheduled it for acouple days later... We got a taxi and she was expecting to goto the train station but instead I had the taxi take her home and paid... Well when it pulled up she tried to pay and I was like nah.... ha and maybe I shouldnt of but I went in for a kiss and she gave me cheek! and left... So acouple days pass and I call her to see if were still on and she said shes having family come over. So im like damn did I do somethin? and she was like No, were just friends why wouldnt I want to hangout??? and ive known her only a month and I was like just friends? I thought it was obvious I like you. She was like no I had no idea, i go out with my guy friends all the time. Shes like I am not interested in anyone right now, im going away to school next year (which is 3 hours away) and im saving money. Im working all the time. I cant predict the future but im not interested right now.... So In my head I was like ok??? Why didnt she ask me then if I had a girlfriend if we were just friends and why didnt she offer to bring other friends then??? So I got confused and thought maybe she is juss shy and it was too soon for me to say something.... So I asked her when her last relationship was and she said 4 months ago. She doesnt know I know this but her father left the mom and shes trying to help out with the younger siblings, etc. Time has gone on and we been talking on the internet I havent called her cept on X Mas I texted her cause she actually stayed at my parents house with her mom cause of the snow. MY MOM talked their damn ear off so I barely got to talk to her. But like I said we been talkin on the net and she contacts me more then girls ive known TRIPPLE as long as her... I dunno I still like her, am I mean she wasnt ingoring my calls cause she would always contact me back ands tuff it was just acouple of times. I had to call more then once. I usually only call one time...ANy girl I mean she wasnt ignoring my calls I just only call once and if someone doesnt answer i dont call. She only did it acouple of times. But she ALWAYS responds and stuff.... (more...)

Resolved Question: Why do I always seem to get sick after a traumatic event?
Everytime something happens like I get into a car accident, or something else that's dramatic/traumatic, and what not..I always a week later or so come down with something. The past few weeks have been hell and I got into a car accident in the snow and just honestly had alot to put up with and my body really didn't seem to handle it pretty well at the time, and then after it was all over and done with, I got hit with a flu that was so bad I can't remember the last time I had one this bad. Perhaps when I was a kid. (more...)

Open Question: why is it so difficult to accept that the planet is changing?
there is so much doubts about the planet and the rapid changes in the temperature of the atmosphere but the signs are so obvious can we ask that for those that don't or can't accept why not? the evidence is there: ice caps. sea temperature. permafrost. glaciers winter bournes aquifers sea acidity diseases bore holes drying up tornado's tropical storms hurricanes seasons out of place permanent snow lines and many more is it so hard to see? why is it people don't want to think that there use of hydrocarbons and the emissions by human actions is killing the planet? there are natural events that can influence the air we breathe but they are dwarfed by the effects of humans so what is the problem of people who doubt? Resolved Question: is my friend a douche bag?
ok. so this is how the story goes. so like a month or two ago i decided to stop talking to my friend cause all we do is just sit in his room and talk about girls from our high school days. i tell him that we should all get together and go cruise out of town. but he always says ah i have no money or the typical response go where?? so im like man you know what forget this. so my friend called him up to invite him to his baby shower he didnt go! my other friend call him up to invite him to her wedding cause we've been friends ever since 6th grade but he didnt show up. oh but get this whenever its his birthday or any other event that he hosts it is a MUST to go or else he wont call you or reply to any of your messages. i remember that on his birthday it was a cold february night i mean it was snowing i got off work around 9 30 at night and i thought i drop by to say happy b day so i did and told him that it was late and i couldnt stay over. so then it was august 5 08 my b day can you believe this a-hole didnt even call me i was like how rude of him: not even an email. so i called him up the next day to see what was going down and i brought that incident up can you believe he had the courage to say (why didnt you answer your phone ?) i was like *&&^%!@#* son of a &*^%. ugh and i hung up. Open Question: Global warming satire?
I attempted to write a satirical essay about global, and was wondering if it would be good for my high school English class. Feel free to give good feed back or just totally bash on it. I am trying to improve it so, any response would be great. For those who do not know what a Satire is, according to a dictionary, it is "a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn." So please don't take this essay seriously :) I also live on the east coast, therefore the events that I write about, will apply to me. -------------------------------------- The past few decades, the world has been astonished by the amount of CO2 humans are emitting into the atmosphere and say if we do not stop, there will be dire consequences. But what they do not understand is that global warming will be the most benevolent thing human beings will ever grant the earth. Global warming will bring a copious amount of positives, which include saving money, eradicating animals that threaten the human species and saving the world from hunger. Tree huggers need to stop thinking so much about the animals that will be affected. For example, the penguins, which will die off with global warming. They to me are just black and white bird things that swim around the cold and cannot fly. What purpose do they serve in life anyways? And to anyone who is sad for the dying polar bears because of the melting ice caps, let?s face it; we all know that polar bears are mean and cruel animals. Similar to brown bears in America, polar bears are incredibly aggressive and will gnaw on humans if provoked. By eliminating polar bears, we are exterminating a dangerous animal, which will in turn increase another species, Homo sapiens. With less polar bears around, there will be more humans living because there will be less polar bears killing, which seems reasonable. With global warming, people will not only be less stressed about being eaten, we will also not have to worry about buying winter clothes again! Since it won?t be cold enough for us to wear those dreadfully enormous coats, with three additional sweaters underneath, we can just relax in shorts/skirts and a t-shirt. There will be no more worrying about losing the left glove of your snow mitts or having your hair freeze when waiting for the bus in the morning because you forgot to put on your hat. In addition, there will be more girls and guys wearing bikinis and shorts at beaches, which is a plus side for anyone. Speaking of beaches, global warming will bring the coastlines much closer inland. This means that people in the east, who love to surf, will be able to get that nice west coast water. The nice waves and warmer water would provide a better time surfing for people in the east who love the sport. Furthermore, people in areas that are landlocked, will have an easier time getting water, since our friend, global warming, is going to bring it closer inland. Getting water is very important but without food, our bodies will not be able to function. Global warming is going to solve the world hunger problem. When global warming stops winter, it would allow us to have an extra season for growing crops. We will be able to grow food during December, January, and February! And with all of this extra food, we can send it to third world nations, who need it so dearly. So there you have it, global warming will bring us great change, and also make a lot of humans safer. There will be less money spent on awful winter clothes, people on the east of the United States will be able to get those Cali waves, and there will be more water access for those that are landlocked. So the next time you leave your house with the lights on, take a long hot shower, drive to your workplace two blocks away, and heck, even fart, just remember that you are doing it for a good cause, you are saving the world from hunger. Resolved Question: What has happened to snow events in Philadelphia? Always 33 and cold rain. Agonizing climate for snow lovers. ?
Could the lack of good winter weather (cold and snow instead of constant sleet, slop, rain and dreary gray skies) and the abundance of summer humidity be a reason Philadelphia ranked as the worst climate of any city in the country in recent nonscientific survey? Philly was ranked worse than Boston or Chicago. Having lived in Boston, I think one of the reasons is that Boston is actually pretty during winter. Snow-covered yards look nicer and actually enhance a person's mood much better than a muddy, barren ground. Plus, summers are much cooler and more enjoyable. And, the southeast has no snow but lots of sunshine. Any other opinions on this weather-related matter? (more...)

Resolved Question: my cat keeps escaping please help!!?
I put him on leash and take him outside sometimes. I've been doing that since he was a kitten. He is 10 months old and neutered. Even though I take him outside sometimes, I guess thats not enough for him because he tries to escape everytime we open the front door. We usually catch him before he goes outside but sometimes hes so fast that he escapes and runs away like crazy. He's escaped outside like 10~15 times and I feel like he's slowly expanding his territory (or his way around the neighbourhood). We had to goto an important event as a family today. When we were heading out he escaped and ran away. We had no choice but to leave because we had to attend an important event (because he usually doesnt go too far away from our house so we weren't as worried) when we came back 3 hours later, I tracked him down with his footprints in the snow and when I called him he stuck his head out and than ran towards me but then ran passed me towards the house. when I was like "oh good boy! lets go home!" and tried to grab him he ran away again, and kept hiding here and there in the bushes. I finally caught him but this is so frustrating!! what if he escapes one day and explores all over the neighbourhood, something could happen! I don't mind him taking out on the leash for like 30 minutes but he throws a fit and bites me really hard when i try to take him back home because he wants to play more. like he bites REALLY hard and then throws a FIT and screams like a child would. what should I do please help!!
