Beat Avenue
Whoever coined the saying about old dogs and new tricks never anticipated this powerhouse two-disc song cycle. Fueled with an apocalyptic, post-9/11 urgency and driven by far more musical muscle than one expects from this veteran folk troubadour, the collection could stand as a companion piece to Bob Dylan's "Love and Theft". (Andersen acknowledges Dylan's inspiration by dedicating the album to him.) The opening "Ain't No Time to Bleed" sets the tone with a wailing duet vocal by Phoebe Snow and slashing guitar from Eric Bazilian, while "Song of You and Me," "Great Pyramid," and the relentless "Rains Are Gonna Come" sustain the hard-driving dynamic. For fans of Andersen's balladry, "Shape of a Broken Heart" and "Under the Shadows" (with vocals from daughter Sari) evoke the open-hearted spirit of his 1972 classic Blue River. Yet nothing in a career that stretches almost 40 years anticipates the 26-minute title track, an atmospheric, phantasmagoric meditation on the day President Kennedy was killed. Half-spoken, half-sung, it sounds like a cross between Lou Reed and Robbie Robertson while recalling an era when freeform FM radio rewarded such experimentation. With the project taking the sort of risks that one doesn't expect from an artist turning 60, this is easily the most ambitious music that Andersen has ever made, and some of the best as well. --Don McLeese

Tibet - Windham Hill Series
A Dann Moss Production with Windham Hill Productions, Inc. Original Score by Mark Isham. Mere mention of the word Tibet evokes images of a rich and magical country, its culture shrouded by a remote and inaccessible location. This program provides a look at the place called the "Roof of the World", a place where the heavens and the earth meet, and where centuries old rhythms continue. It is a brief glimpse of vast stretches of empty, high plains and snow-capped peaks. The monasteries and the monks who live there are the last of an ever diminishing religious culture which has no parallel in the West. 5.1 Remix from original multi-tracks supervised by Mark Isham. Audio commentary from Mark Isham.

Voting Question: Guinea pig breathing funny..not ha ha funny?
i just got him around yesterday afternoon and let him stay in his cage for a little less of 24 hours. until i heard some weird sound. it's like a purr but it's broken up like a bird chirping. and when hes breathing, he makes a whistling sound through his nose.. i'm going to check him for respiratory problems but i dont think my dad knows that the vet is all the way in Baltimore(45-50 minutes away). i don't think he will want to travel that far. theres a vet closer but i'm not sure if it's for exotics. grr i hate pet shops. theres no humane societies near by. i guess since this is the 2nd time i tried, i'm going to have to give up if i lose him too. it's not a loud sound. only when i get right next to the cage.

Resolved Question: What might this dream mean?
I dreamt I went to a town i really, really desire to go and the town had an exotic medieval feeling to it.
It was late afternoon, the sun was setting and i was with my best friend.i walked to a corner where a guy was on a bike.i told him to take us around the place(this is something he said in reality, that whenever i go to his town i can have him show me around)but he refused and said that he cannot because people will see him.
after this i noticed another friend who was lost in the town and told her to come with us.my mother then called me and asked me why did i travel so far.i wondered how did she come to know where i had gone.
next moment,i was standing in my balcony at my home and it was night and i was feeling sadness wash over me at the thought that he refused to take me around the town.

Voting Question: Java programming help?
Can somebody help me with a program? i've been trying to figure this out but it just wont work.
The program which i have to write is:
Imagine, you are working for the travel agency offering clients tickets to some exotic travel destinations. You are responsible to create a java program which offers a menu with different destinations and their prices included PST and GST. The clients should be able to pick a destination, view a page description of the destination with the quote for the trip.
The program is expected to be interactive: the user is expected to enter the choice and have the trip description given with it?s price.
please and thank you

Resolved Question: Book of short stories? Lemony Snicket contest? The Sun Bird? Tiny country? Moving Manhattan?
I got this book a few years ago, it is a collection of short stories by various author, for children I thick, seeing as it was in the children's section. On the book jacket there was a story started by lemony snicket, the author of a series of unfortunate events, and the contest was to finish the story, and send it in. I don't think that the jacket would be on the book now, though, because the contest will have already happened.
One story in the book I remember bu title, and that was The Sun Bird, which was a bout a group of people who enjoy eating exotic and endangered animals (I cannot remember their formal name). They travel to eat the sun bird, or Phoenix. Another story was about a boy who discovers the village he lives in is actually his entire country, and is shocked. The third I remember was about Manhattan, which states floating away from the mainland...
Does anyone know the title of this book?? Or at least know what I'm talking about??
That would be soooooooooooooooooo helpful, THANKS so much!!

Resolved Question: By popular request-Baby Game Name 2, What will you name THIS big family?
If you liked my other name game, I hope you will enjoy this one! Name your children in this game by the descriptions. Have fun!
1. You just got married to the love of your life and want to start a family right away. You are soon blessed with two beautiful sons-yes twins! They look alike with fair skin and light brown hair and freckles. They have similar grayish-blue eyes. When they get older, the 1st is shy and bookish, and the 2nd is more outgoing and athletic. What are these fella's names?
2. You want another child, and you decide to adopt this time. You are adopting a beautiful daughter from China. She has exotic dark brown eyes, fair skin and silky black hair. She is a very sweet little girl and looks up to her older brothers. What is this lovely little girl's name?
3. You are so happy with your 3 children already you decide to have another. This time, it is a gorgeous little girl. She has sandy blond hair, peachy skin, rosy cheeks and beautiful brown eyes. She is a playful little girl and always brightens the room. What name is given to this sweetie?
4. You decide you want another child, and this time you have a boy! He looks a bit like his sister with sandy blond hair and peachy skin, but has freckles and bluish-gray eyes like his older brothers. He is the peacemaker and the shy one of the family. What do you name this wonderful boy?
5. You are adopting again, two little kids from Central America. The boy is 4 and the girl is 3. They are siblings. They both have tan skin. The girl has beautiful jasmine green eyes, and the boy has big brown eyes. The boy has curly light brown hair and the girl has dark brown hair that is cut in a bob. They both seem shy at first, but then develop more personalities. The girl wants to sing and dance, and the boy loves painting and sketching. What do you name these adorable little ones?
6. Just when your family seems to be complete and perfect you are blessed with another angel from heaven-a little girl. She is a beautiful baby with fair skin and freckles. She has light brown hair with natural red highlights as she gets older, and beautiful brown eyes. She appreciates the small things in life and wants to travel the world. Resolved Question: Do any respected Astronomers seriously think we have been visited by alien races?
I think it's absolutely absurd, for these reasons:
1) While it is extremely likely that life is abundant in the universe and that even the Milky Way almost certainly holds a least a million other intelligent races, the universe is simply too large, even travelling at close to the speed of light.
This can't be emphasised enough: space is too cavernous to be traversed by any conceivable civilization.
2) Why would an alien race wish to come and visit a race (us) without even electricity? For this is how a civilization would see us again due to the immense distances of the universe, and the finite speed of light.
3) Anything else is exotic speculation. If races can perhaps manipulate space/time and travel faster than the speed of light to arrive here, then surely there would be some noticeable distortion detectable by our many extremely sensitive instruments pointed skyward.
Anyone care to disagree?
