I've looked all over the Internet, and I can not find a simple of example of how RSA cryptography works. There are numerous sites discussing the topic, but they're either so simple they gloss over it as "an asymmetric cryptography system for exchanging data securely" or they delve into examples involving real-life huge numbers that I would need MATLAB to even compute. I realize that without these huge numbers the encrypted data will not be secure, however I am interested in learning HOW it works, not making something secure. Usually Wikipedia is good for this type of thing, but it has let me down. Pretend I want to encrypt the number 8... Walk through the steps of what you do to accomplish that. Here is what I understand so far: 1) Choose 2 distinct (large but not for this example) large prime numbers called p and q that are the same bit length. Let's use p=5 and q=7 -- both 3 bits. 2) Calculate N, the modulus as N = p*q -- N = 5 * 7 = 35 3) Calculate the totient #(N) = (p-1)(q-1) = 4*6 = 24 I understand totients, no discussion needed here. 4) Choose an integer e such that 1 < e < #(N) and e and #(N) are coprime. This is where I start getting lost... when they say "Choose an integer" that implies that there may be multiple choices. How do I know which one to choose? Does it matter? If not, why? Many articles I have read suggest that 3, 17, etc are used frequently for smaller computing devices. Why use the same numbers if you have a choice? I mean obviously smaller numbers make the computation faster but surely you can use other numbers that meet the criteria. 5) Compute d such that de <==congruent==> 1 mod #(N) This time it says compute rather than choose...but isn't it a choice again since modulus will/may yield many values for d that satisfy the congruence relationship?? Your explanations and simple worked out example/insight would be much appreciated. I've always wanted to understand how this stuff works, but it hasn't clicked yet. I work out every day of the week and I have one off day and that day is an active rest day which still entails a light 2 mile jog I run 2-3 times a week in 3 to 5 mile intervals and do tons of plyometrics, (prob wrong spelling) I drink at least 1.5 gallons of water a day and consume 12 ounces of cranberry juice as well. If I smoked weed in small doses maybe 6-8 times in the last 2 weeks, how soon should I expect a non- detectable level of THC in my urine ? the drug test I will be taking is tested at 50ng/ml I also take creatine to help muscle recovery and sit and stretch in the sauna for 30mins every day. Of course I take my necessary vitamins which include 4grams of vitamin c spaced out between meals and multivitamin,and a bunch of other vitamins My body fat is 16.6 and I am 6 foot 2 dont know if this info would help ? I also have a regular bowel movement 5-8 times a day so my metabolism is quite quick How fast would thc leave my system with me keeping up with my routine ? (more...)

I have seen socket 939 amd 4800+s for £181 including p+p cheapest, with other websites charging more - seen one for £500+ the fx-60 costs £530, £350+ on ebay http://www.kikatek.com/product_info.php?products_id=9548&source=froogle socket 939 is outdate, am2 has been replaced - for some of these stupid prices you could just buy a new barebones system with much newer and faster processors, - heck you can even get an intel i7 920 for £180-250 depending on where you go. Include a motherboard and new ddr3 ram and you would still have money saved over from buying the fx60. Why do retailers price their outdated processors which use outdated platforms at such expensive prices? You could buy a motherboard, the processor, (if needed) new ddr3 ram and can have someone (its very easy yourself anyway), slot things in place and hook it up to the power supply! I thought about supply and demand - but why would you NEED the processor for your motherboard?? You could buy a NEW motherboard, a NEW FASTER processor on a newer platform for future upgrade (if needed whilst still developed for) and still have money left over? also to the third answerer - they have a depreciating product - trying to get the most from their product and holding onto it simply will make the price fall more as it gets more outdated.
