Facing up to one?s problems is the best way to avoid regret and the best way to provide faster release. I always have my own back and a good grasp of reality. I?m quite content with myself and where I am in life. I have a great family, a consoling home, and unswerving friends. I enjoy hanging out and shopping as much as reading and writing. My favorite class in school is Gymnastics where I can loosen up and concentrate on the winning goal. I love my part time job as a coffee Barista for Starbucks, it often reminds me that I am independent and can survive outside of my parent?s allowances. I believe in reason and logic and tradition. I am swollen with pride of who I am. Loosing is never an option I would choose. I try my best to achieve my goal and never let small adversities stand in the way. EXACTLY what I was warning my people about has come to pass! JOB 13:15. 15. "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him: but I will maintain mine own ways before Him." THE SORT OF LIVES we Human beings lead are pitiful and pathetic. Even those wealthy in the top 1% are cheated out of what they OUGHT to have as Humans- the luxuries and pleasures they enjoy are brutally taken from them just as they begin to learn to appreciate them, and then they go into Eternal Servitude and Bondage- if they are lucky enough to reach the AfterLife- which is dependent upon their being able to cohere their souls once they lose their physical bodies, and protect it against the onslaught of the spiritual energies our bodies shield us from while they are living. In the quasi-compulsory Departmental Prayer Meeting called by our Madame Director Dr. Adero***, who is also an ordained pastor, a Prophet Mike (missed-his-surname) told us that GOD had sent him to tell us THREE THINGS: 1. NONE of US (at least in that prayer meeting), nor our relatives would die THIS YEAR. And no one would die in our Health Centre. 2. NONE of US (at least in that prayer meeting) would LACK for ANYTHING this year. 3. ALL OF US would COMPLETE our whatever projects- e.g. building our own houses (specified example)- THIS YEAR. Everybody was shouting, "AMEN! AMEN!! AMEN!!!" It had been years since I was in such a prayer meeting like this. Last year's New Year Prayer Meeting was not so over-the-top. I was immediately disappointed in the intelligence levels displayed by my co-workers- some of whom were university graduates, and had been abroad to Europe and America. This was exactly the thing that led me to quit Pentecostalism in 1994. The Joint Christian Pentecostal Fellowships under whom I was converted and Holy Ghost baptized called an all-night New Year Prayer Meeting. I don't stay up all night for just anybody. When we had prayed and sung, and prayed, and sung, and prayed some more, and more, there was a prophetess opened up and spoke with the Voice of God, that He had heard our prayer and that we had "MOVED HIM ON HIS THRONE TONIGHT." We had just prayed that NO ONE of our Brethren would have any ACCIDENT that year. It so happened that later that year a Brother SEGUN ADISA had an accident in his new car, with at least one other fatal casualty. This was the week after the Leader was admonishing that we must MANIFEST SPIRITUAL GIFTS WE'D PRAYED FOR, and so on. I decided that if anyone was going to manifest "raising the Dead" -and we had access to some seriously heavy hitters in those days- S.G. ELTON, the Presbyterian missionary, who had guided our Pentecostal Movements from the beginning. EMEKA NWAMPA , of CSSM. Rev. CHARLES CHUKS, who boasted of many miracluous manifestations, and claimed to have predicted the Future, and been commanded by God to list his predictions, and contact one DAVID WILKERSON, who listed the exact same predictions, with the difference that CHUKS' predictions had DATES. (WE were not FIT to know what these predictions were supposed to be- but we all knew an anointed minister like him would NEVER lie about such a thing!) As it happened, the dead Brethren were all just buried without any atempt to raise them from the dead. One Senior Brother said he had prayed about it, and JESUS had spoken to him saying, "Relax! They are with ME!" which is the usual cheap cop-out. I decided that Pentecostalism was not what I had been told. How could I HAVE a DIFFERENT "Holy Ghost" than the thousands of other Brethren I thought were my comrades? One which FOLLOWED JESUS' TEACHINGS TO THE LETTER, but which NONE of THEM seemed to have ever heard of? How could I do everything I knew was RIGHT, and end up being labelled "THE ENEMY?" What was WRONG with The Church? Didn't JESUS know how to run his own Church, with all that Power he supposedly has? I just got out. The co-worker I was telling you about, Mrs. ADED***. She had been a member of a couple of extreme Pentecostal cults before- Cherubim & Seraphim, and Celestial Church- infamous for their compulsory white cassocks. She was now the member of a YUPPIE'S church, with its educated clergymen, who BOUGHT their ordinations (the in-thing nowadays). Which married her daughter to a polio cripple- hundreds of members who claim the SAME Spirit of God Almighty as the Ancient Prophets- not ONE who could HEAL him. A girl was on stage testifying about her blessedness, in having finished University, and about her "Divine Health." she slumped even as she was talking, and fell to the floor (not off of a stage or something). She HIT HER HEAD somehow, and despite the ministrations of the actual medical doctors present, who were also HOLY GHOST BAPTIZED, she was D.O.A. at our Health Centre. It APPEARS that while we were praying our damn fool heads off, the Director, Doctors and Nurses ALL KNEW that we BEGAN THE YEAR with a corpse on our hands! How cynical is THAT? But, lo, it gets WORSE! The daughter of the co-worker I was telling you about was the one I first heard the case of this unfortunate girl from. She wasn't going to tell ME. (Pentecostals all around have agreed not to co-operate with me. I never have anything good to say about their failures, and they don't like that.) I remonstrated that these things were happening because no one was listening to what i was telling them about what was wrong with their practice of Christianity. She cut in and said that that wasn't true- that after all SHE listened. About a couple of years ago, her pastor brother in-law met his end on a 7-day fast because SHE did not pass on MY Franklin Hall teachings that THIRSTING is not FASTING- you MUST drink WATER too! Dear "6ofUS:" Please total the receipts of what you paid for pharmaceuticals last year, and tell ME that it is NOT pathetic you have a body whose immune system does not even WORK properly! The spiritual Christians have invented a false standard whereby ONLY fasting WITHOUT drinking water, as well as not eating, COUNTS as a "REAL" FAST. This is, in case you don't know, MURDER. In a matter of days, your body will be so clogged with toxins released by the fast (long physiological explanation applies) that the body can't take it. This pastor peed blood. All this because his sister-in-law laughed off what I had been demonstrating for twenty-two years. I do not take drugs for anything, because even three days of fasting cures me of malaria (which is a fatal disease in this country) without aking any drugs, and I cannot catch a cold even if I try for at least three months after I have fasted 72 hours. In her churches, they have people who PRETEND to fast- so they have no reports as I do. Franklin Hall- the 20th Century authority on fasting reported that a medical doctor TANNER, who revived fasting at he turn of the century, fasted 40 days and nights at age 80, and his grey hair started growing out black again! It looked fairly straightforward to me, but local Blacks find it VERY difficult to BELIEVE such testimonies. They believe that liars FEED off the life force of those who believe them. If they decide YOU are a liar, they will not TELL you, but PRETEND to believe you, and so believe THEY are feeding off of YOU- or at least DRAINING you. I fasted 10 days and nights at age 42, and my grey hair started growing out black again, and staed that way for a bout two years. I also was able to go without using my glasses for about a year. NONE of the other people who claim to fast report phenomena like these because THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY DO. They THINK that not eating from 6am to 6pm is "fasting." ThUS, their "fasts" achieve NOTHING. I said this. She was SURPRISED! If, after all this time she could be surprised when I told her that twelve-hour fasting was NOT real fasting, it follows that she had NEVER listened to me, and hung out with people in churches equally ignorant. THE POINT OF THE QUESTION is that if you think that God CAN and has a RIGHT to COUNTERMAND your pleas for HELP, or to SPARE other people's lives, your FAITh is UNDERMINED, and your prayers USELESS. The "goodwill" of anyone who holds such a belief is also SUSPECT. There should have been hundreds, even thousands of Christians at least, coming here to testify that THEY DON'T CARE if "The Master Plan of GOD" includes THEIR deaths. So far we've seen NONE! What does THAT tell YOU? I learned from her, because she had to take off from work (and *I* have to do it!), that that all this while she was doing her half-measure "White Fasting" her most beautiful daughter was in Critical Condition in a hospital in Lagos, with a broken LEG and a broken NECK. What angers ME is that the well-to-do professionals will come for the best medical treatment their money can buy, THEN TESTIFY IN CHURCH, that JESUS healed them! While the POOR, who cannot afford doctors, come to the same church, and NOBODY'S prayers heal them, nor do THEY know how to pray for themselves- so WHEN they go down with lethal conditions. NOBODY CARES. Pretend Religion. When they are sick, they are taught to say, "I am STRONG." JOEL 3:10. 10. As most of you know, I'm a single mom to a toddler with health issues (severe asthma) I never have a minute to myself and 99.9% of the time, I'm fine with that. These past three weeks have been hell for me. She was really sick with pneumonia and needed 6 breathing treatments a day plus other meds. I barely slept (treatments every 4 hours!) and was on edge the entire time worried about her breathing. She was uncomfortable which made me feel even worse. Pneumonia can be fatal to a child with asthma like hers. Add to the fact that I was sick with bronchitis for a week of those 3 weeks. Being sick and caring for a sick toddler can be trying! We stayed inside most of the time as it was really cold here. Needless to say, we both started going a little stir crazy. We're both fine now and have resumed our regular schedules. We celebrated her being well again with a day trip to the aquarium of the pacific yesterday, she had a great time. Well now I want to do something fo me, I never do anything for me, and I worry that it isn't healthy to constantly put mommy's needs and wants on the back burner. So this Friday I am taking a vacation day off work. I have to no one I can trust to watch her for a few hours who has been extensively trained about asthma, meds, and treatments besides my parents (out of town) and daycare. Therefore, I plan to take my daughter to daycare as usual, though I will be dropping her off later and picking her up earlier than usual. This the first time since before I had her (18 months ago) that I am taking a good 6 hours for myself... I don't know what to do...And I feel guilty for actually doing this... I'm thinking... Get a mani/pedi See Bride wars Take a nap Read a novel That should take up my six hours... Any other ideas? I had this question posed to me, and I had to stop and put some thought into it. We all have those times when everything seems dark, when it is impossible to know exactly what we should do, what is the right thing to do, even what options we have. In searching myself, I have only one clear, satisfactory answer: My ego is of such massive proportions, that I refuse to recognize that my life might be anything less than special. Lest this sound too much to take, let me explain. I am, as many people on here know, HIV+. My life, such as it is, is confronted with a host of things assailing my self-esteem. I cannot claim that I know for a certainty that I will have anything brighter, that I will have anything redeeming, that there is even anything worth redeeming....what, after all, can be said for a man who is in my position, with the health I have, with the poverty that is my existence, with the odds so apparently stacked against me? A rational person would not see much good, and I am rational enough to be aware of this, the facts of the situation always bubbling in the back of my mind. My response, though, is to decide that the odds do not apply to me; my ego, travelling before me and clearing the way, assures that I have that quality which allows the hopeless to continue, in spite of the odds, in spite of the apparent circmstances of their situation. I have no bravery here, just my obstinate naivete to guide me, and it is my sure compass. To put it quite simply, I am too stupid to realize that I should give up, so I continue on. I want to know how other people deal with those hopeless times in life, and for the person who wrote to me, please understand that each of us is unique, each of us is a rare thing for this world's pleasure to experience, the rare joy and privilege of being witness to you, to me, to all of us. If we have nothing else going for us, let us then be too stupid to give in; let us walk on, some brilliantly foolish comrades, arm in arm, laughing because we have only the choice of either tears or laughter, and in our marvelous, obstinate naivete, we laugh. We are all of us each other's privilege, those of us who are hopeless, because when everything else is stripped away, we have only the honesty of our true selves to offer one another. So, that's it. That is what I do to pick myself back up, I rely on my stupid ego that refuses to let me take a rational look at myself. I hope to heaven you are the same way too, and that we continue, brilliantly hopeless....yet brilliant, nonetheless. The world needs us, its jesters and holy fools, and we need each other. Perhaps you know about the outrage female genital mutliation (aka female circumcision) in Africa has caused. People in the USA seem to think it's an outrage. In fact, it's against the law. But the vast majority of men here are circumcised. Does no one else think this is a sexist double standard? I am referring to non-religious circumcision here. Granted, circumcision has its benefits. It makes it easier to clean, less risk of disease, no possibility of foreskin tightness problems. However, I believe that the downsides are far greater. It decreases sensation by 75%, reduces pleasure for the female as well, can get infected, can cause painful erections if too much skin is taken off, and is overall a barbaric practice in my opinion, considering the newborn infant cannot consent to the operation. I do believe circumcision is fine in the case of cosmetic/hygiene/health issues for a male who chooses to have it done, but in the case of an infant, it should only be done in the case of problems with the foreskin (ie, it's too tight, it's already infected, etc.) But to me, removing it on a baby just because of the risk of health problems is roughly equivalent to requiring women to have double mastectomies when they turn 18 because of the risk of breast cancer. And removing it because of hygiene issues is like removing a baby's fingernails at birth to prevent having to clean underneath them. Also, I would venture to wager that more health problems are caused by circumcision (infection, erection problems due to too much skin being removed) than leaving it intact. Why is no one outraged by this practice? I understand it's tradition, but that doesn't make it right. Also, if anyone has any statistics that show circumcision is in fact healthier in general than leaving the penis intact, I would be glad to hear them. By the way, if my clitoral hood were removed, it would be nearly impossible for me to orgasm--the clitoris is painfully sensitive to the direct touch. But maybe I'm an odd case. Anyway, studies have shown it takes about 195 circumcisions to prevent one UTI. It causes at most a twofold reduction.
