Basically I work at an ice hockey rink that often has a lot of variety of famous hockey players in and out from all sorts of teams (mostly retired) because they help/coach minor league teams. Plus we get regular visits from various players from the Dallas Stars all the time. I was just wondering what kind and where would you suggest getting pucks for signing. Believe it or not I have no idea about hockey equipment, however I do know for baseball it could mean the difference in a ball being worth almost nothing to a lot just because it has to be official and for the same league. It also helps to have balls from the year that the actual player played. Like I said most of these guys are retired (HOFers) so would it be best to get one from the time they played? Also I noticed most pucks have teams on the puck itself, but is there also just a generic official puck that can be used? Any help/clarification/information would be appreciated! Thanks! (more...)

I have an old pair of roller blades (1990's) that I shook the dust off to play inline / roller hockey. They say Lightning Rollerblades on them and have 608 Kryptonics on the wheels. The wheels only have a month or two of life before they will need to be replaced. What wheels can I replace them with (please include size, name brand, ect)? How do I determine what the size of the existing wheels are? What wheel would you recommend for inline hockey on an inline hockey rink? Hey there, this'll be my first post here though I've been lurking around various goalie forums and bulletin boards for a bit. I played hockey for about 3 years as left wing when I was about 12 and really loved the sport, but had always wanted to play goalie (couldn't afford the pads then, so had to settle with being a player Razz). Now that I can afford the gear through craigslist/ebay/goaliemonkey.. etc. I did the research and background checking on all my gear and picked up all the stuff I'd need. I'm going to be going into an adult novice league (which I was told by my local rink would be what I'd need since I'm 19 and have 0 experience in goaltending) so that's about the skill level I'll be playing in. Alrighty... after all that was said and done, my questions XD I ended up going with an Itech profile 2500 helmet, which I did research but apparently did not go into enough depth and forum hounding as I should have... From what I've read (I forget the bb but it was more popular) almost every post about this helmet was negative and said I would be lining myself up for nothing but trouble and concussions... Now, I'm not scared of being hit by the puck (I'm actually STOKED to have pucks flung at me as fast as possible.. is that weird? :/) but my league starts next week and I don't have money coming out of my arse to drop 500$ on a top of the line mask... so.. feedback on this ? :/ That was really the main question... last one was just regarding knee pads. Are they necessary when my leg pads have (from what I can tell from dropping down on my knees all over my apartment...) a pretty adequate knee cradle? Thanks in advance... hope this wasn't too long winded, just didn't want to leave anything out... Very Happy tl;dr - Will the profile 2500 leave me like Forrest Gump & are knee pads necessary? I'm 19, 5"6 and weigh 140. Yea a bit small and light i know. hehe. But i really want to get into hockey. I played ball hockey for a year when i was 17. I wanted to be goalie, but the coach wouldn't let me. He said i was too small and inexperienced. So instead i played forward. I play hockey because i love team sports and plus i like the excitment of hockey. I miss hockey and i have been thinking to get back in it again. But i have some doubts. I am small and light so i get the fear of getting pwned on the rink. I am fast though. Although speed plays a main role in the game...but being physical though is another main factor too. I eat a lot and work out sometimes. But i can't seem to get bigger though. It's the gene. So any suggestions on how i can prepare myself?? (more...)

I know its a tongue twister...well i play pond hockey a lot and now is the season. i don't always remember or even feel like wiping my skates before leaving and letting them sit there until next time i skate (which isnt that long). so of course rust builds up which is never a good thing. someone last year told me something like "if you paint the blades of your skates black, it will help avoid rusting". i have a spray paint can and everything i'm ready to it mostly because i think it'll look pretty sick but: a) Will it help against the rust? b) Is it bad for the blades in any way? c) Will the hockey rinks reject to sharpen them if they have a coat of paint on them? I need urgent help on this because i plan on painting them tomorrow and getting them sharpened on monday. if i dont figure this out by tomorrow i might not have time to take care of this business until next season!! thanks in advance to answer tj's question: i have to walk a mile to play at the closest outdoor rink. when i'm about to leave my fingers are frozen to the extent that i literally cant even untie my skates, let alone spend a few seconds to wipe anything...
