Heroes and Horses: Corridos From the Arizona-Sonora Borderlands
Heroes and Horses: Corridos From the Arizona-Sonora Borderlands The corridos in this collection come from the region comprising southern Arizona and northern Sonora, one that was divided politically by the Gadsden Purchase of 1853, but is unified by a Mexican folk culture. These corridos-- the word translates loosely as "ballads" -- are story songs that tell tales of revolution, crime, heroic showdowns, horse races, and disasters in this overlooked part of the world. Heroes and Horses is a slice of life along the Arizona-Sonora border as it has been lived and memorialized in corridos over the course of the 20th century. Rich with the folk traditions of northern Mexico, rarely are the engaging voices of these balladeers accompanied by more than a guitar and an accordion. Tales of triumph and tragedy fill this collection and bring the Arizona-Sonora borderlands to life. This enhanced CD includes 71 minutes of music, extensive notes, photos, and complete lyrics in Spanish and English on the disc.

Resolved Question: Does anyone see the difference between Israel and hamas?
Gaza War Diary III: If Mexico shelled Texas, like Hamas shells Israel By Bradley Burston Analogy One: A fanatical religious party wins a string of elections in Mexico's northern states, then stages a civil war to drive out the federal government and take full control. The party's charter demands the return to Mexico of the occupied territories of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas. Firing homemade rockets and more advanced projectiles smuggled in from Iran and China, the party's gunners can hit a total of one of every seven Americans, or 43,598,000 people, in a broad swath which includes Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Austin, San Antonio and Houston, and Las Vegas. In all of these areas, pre-schools, grade schools, and universities are all forced to shut down. Families sleep in bomb shelters, and return to them several times a day during air raids. Businesses are shuttered, and the economy shuts down. ______________________ Analogy Two: A man comes into your home. He has a gun he made himself. He points it at your family. He fires, but misses. The gun has little accuracy. He fires repeatedly, missing again and again. You have a much better gun, made in a real factory. It is in the drawer in the bedroom. Demonstrators in London and San Francisco - who are distant relatives of the gunman - stage a protest, calling you a murderer and demanding that you keep the well-made gun in the drawer because it would be a disproportionate response. The man with the homemade gun, it turns out, is a religious fanatic who lives across the street. You were once his landlord. There is much bad blood between you. He races back across the street. He has a larger weapon that he smuggled in through his basement. He shoots from behind his younger son. He wounds your daughter. You take out a rifle. You aim for him and hit the son, killing the boy. The demonstrators are now calling you a Nazi and chant "Slaughter the Landlord!" [In his defense, the neighbor explains that you have kept him and his family locked in the house, and have at times, failed to pay his water, gas and electric bills, causing them to be sporadically turned off. This is some years after the neighbor send out his older son, nicely dressed, to knock on your door. Your older daughter opens the door. He greet her politely, and presses the detonator on a homemade bomb.] ______________________ And finally a word about... Analogy Three: Gaza as the Warsaw Ghetto Jew-haters the world over adore this one. It solves a number of problems at once: It denies and diminishes and exploits the Holocaust, does disrespect to Holocaust victims and survivors alike, alleviates European guilt over complicity with the Nazis, alleviates American guilt over inaction in the face of the annihilation machine, misrepresents both the cruel reality of the Gaza Strip and the cruel reality of the ghetto, dismisses the humanity and the vulnerability of the million Israeli Jews and Arabs within rocket range, and ignores completely the role of Hamas, the Islamic Jihad, the Popular Resistance Committees, and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, in having sent thousands and thousands and thousands of rockets and mortars into Israel. As a bonus, pro-Palestinian demonstrators in San Francisco [where else?], referencing the the Warsaw Ghetto analogy, recently beat up a small number of pro-Israel demonstrators, reportedly shouting "Slaughter the Jew" at them in Arabic. Resolved Question: Do Dems Find it Odd that Highest Mortgage Default Rates are in Heavily Hispanic States?
California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Florida Aren't these the states where Dems in Congress ache to make sure their voters get houses even if they can't afford to pay for them? Wasn't this the "American Dream" of the Hispanic Caucus? http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123111072368352309.html?mod=googlenews_wsj Don't you love how Dems did their best to make it so their voters did NOT have to save up a 10% or 20% downpayment? Resolved Question: I-25 in Colorado? Whats it like?
I'm going to be driving from California to Minnesota at the end of January. The idea of crossing through the Rocky Mountains, near Denver really scares me. My friend, who will be driving with me, suggested going south, through Arizona and New Mexico, and then coming up to Denver on I-25. Im just curious to find out what the terrain is like on I-25 in Colorado. Is it sill very mountainous? Or is it a pretty easy, smooth drive? He wants to go through Denver, so I have no choice... but I-70 through Denver is NOT an option. So I am just trying to figure out what would be the easiest, and less intense route. Thanks! seriously, "I dont know" answers just so you can get 2 points, are so annoying. Just a warning, I will report anyone who does not actually provide an answer. (more...)

Open Question: So all you people that are so critical of Israel..how you answer this.?
All I keep hearing is how Israel shouldn't protect themselves because they are on Palestineian land. So answer me this.. what makes you any different from them? Where do you live? West coast? New Mexico? Arizona? Utah? Texas? If you don't call yourself a hypocrite.. then when do you plan on giving this land back to Mexico? What about you in the Plains, northeast, and most of the south? We need to give that land back to the Native Americans don't we? Umm didn't we take that land from them? How are we all going to fit in the Louisana purchase land? So if Mexico attacked the US.. wanting some of that land back.. we should just sit down and redraw the US maps?? Now how is this any different that what Israel has done? You still think they have no right to defend themselves? i'm not swapping Israel from Palestine. Don't try to twist words. what I'm saying is would you be opposed to the US defending the southwest from Mexican attack? what about Native American's wanting their land back? You don't think we should defend? just give the land back? if you think we should.. that is hypocrisy. (more...)

Resolved Question: Why should English NOT be adopted as the official language of the US?
I am writing a 6page paper where I discuss both sides. Currently, I have an amazing section for why we should have English as our official language, but I fall short in explaining why we should not. I was thinking of discussing reasons such as - Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and California were part of Mexico and therefore, we should not REQUIRE them to speak English - it goes against what our nation stands for-- freedom and the such but neither of these are good arguments! Please help!! (more...)
